Not going to mcfc/ going to Japan

Gonna be missing out on mcfc. I'm going with
kibamal to Japan over that timeframe from the 3rd of April until the 14th.
I'm contemplating showing up after I get back on the 14th, but it will basically mean I'm only going for a half day, and I'll be super jetlagged. Lol.
Tbh I'm more excited for Japan than mcfc this time around, and I'm hoping to plan more trips like that than doing any more conventions for the time being.

AC space?

I'm a nonsuiter, so I'd take up less space needed in the room for that stuff.

8mm viewing party at mcfc

tiltlongtail did last year for MCFC and AC. hopefully I can make it as entertaining as they did when I got to see it at AC, cause It's made the con for me, and I heard the same feedback from multiple people when they ran it at MCFC as well!
Room is tba until I check in tomorrow, but the time I'm shooting for is 8pm.

Issues finding a job
General | Posted 10 years agoI'm having bad luck trying to get a career started- I've had an associate's degree in computer programming for about a year and a half now, but nothing professional to show from it. No internships, no work experience. Nada so far. I was on the fence with an internship that was offered to me back around May, and in the end I caught the flu on my starting days, and that wrecked my chances with that opportunity. Ideally I'd like to get some form of an internship started before 2016 is done and over with, and my focus is totally on that, but I guess I'll have to wait and see what's really going to go down.
My only real backup plan if I can't find anything is to go up to Schoolcraft and let them know I've been completely unsuccessful in finding work after graduating from them, and see if they can at least offer some advice or something. I know that most folks transfer their credits to a University rather than get an Associate's, and in a perfect world I would have, but I couldn't afford that, and I still can't. I knew that going in, and I really wasn't in the best situation to really even -go- to school for that Associate's, but at least I managed to do it. I think I've used up all my aid just trying to get the Associate's, so going back for that isn't currently an option. I'd need a higher paying job that I can save some money at before thinking about it.
I just feel like I'm really crappy at being an adult. Like, the things I read up on that I'm recommended to do, I either can't do them because I'm missing something I need in order to do it, or when I do try to do something that I have access to doing, I get no benefit from it. It's got me kind of confused some days, and bleh, right now I'm feeling mopey enough to write out this whiney journal about it. At any rate, 2016 is around the corner, so I'll just have to give it another shot for that year and hope for the best, but right now it's hard to find that motivation.

General | Posted 10 years agoI dunno if I'll actually be able to go, but I decided to book a room anyway for FWA next year and see where I'm at around that time frame. Check in is Thursday March 31 and checkout is Monday April 4th.
If it's looking less likely that I'll be able to make it about a week from the con, I'll more than likely cancel the reservation.

General | Posted 10 years agoAC was a blast just like last year. I've seen way too many people to really tag everyone here, but shoot, where do I start?
Big shoutout to

for the ride there. Getting there went without a hitch, and we got out there around 4:30 or so, if I remember right. I spend the first night at the Omni with and his roomies after trying to find the place for about 20 minutes. XD
The rest of the con I was rooming with dat cloud eater/cloud maker
at the Westin, making jokes about how the hotel shower wasn't tall enough for him, etc. Also got my drink on with him at Tonic, and it fucked me up. :D
Friday night blew my fucking mind. I spent some time nerding out over old cameras at MCFC with
and and got to know em a bit better both there, and at this AC. When I ran into King Gourd Friday, he said he and Tilt Longtail were going to do the room party shenanigans that they did at MCFC where they'd play old 8mm films they haven't seen before; after the pretty damn unanimous conclusion at MCFC that it was the best night at the con for those that attended in March, I let King Gourd know I had to see this for myself. I hadn't laughed that hard in a long ass time, to be honest, and I'll try to attend those as often as I can at other cons.
Saturday was crazy what with the heat, and I didn't even know that the parade was going to be open to the public. I give credit to the suiters, because I was damn hot in the shade and not wearing a fursuit, even.
Saturday night was when I got as close to white girl wasted as possible, thanks to and and their skittles vodka. :D That was another epic night of really just chilling around and chatting for about seven hours. I haven't been big on liquor for a while, but hanging at Tonic with the Sergal as well as Saturday with the Tigs and Wolf kinda made me realize I've been going about it the wrong way and I gotta give some things second chances.
Sunday was a bit shorter and chaotic where I said goodbye to whoever I could run into before 2pm, and I even got to chill with :coopertom: out of suit for a little bit and crack some jokes. Once we were all back on the road though, I was kinda thankful I was leaving Sunday instead of Monday after all, because I passed the hell out once I got back home.
The tl;dr of this is, well, fuck, I had an awesome time, and I totally plan on doing this next year if possible and I'll just have to see who I meet at that point in time! :D MFF is the next con I've got planned, and it'll be the first one at a major con where I've booked the room; I'm a lil excited and nervous about that, but we'll see how it goes come December.

He's organizing a photoshoot for anyone with a suit made by Mischief Makers, and I'll be shooting it.
It'll happen at 11am on Friday during Anthrocon, on the rooftop of the convention center. If weather is bad, we'll be having it in the lobby of the Westin instead (the street level). You'll need to RSVP with Seneca so he can have a headcount for that.

It'll happen at 11am on Friday during Anthrocon, on the rooftop of the convention center. If weather is bad, we'll be having it in the lobby of the Westin instead (the street level). You'll need to RSVP with Seneca so he can have a headcount for that.

The folks I'm rooming with won't be in until Thursday, so I'm trying to find some crash space if possible.
The other option would probably be to just keep awake all night or something I suppose. If anyone has room for just Wednesday, feel free to shoot me a note or some such.

General | Posted 10 years agoLil' late posting this, but MCFC was the first con that I'd gone to ever since ditching the glasses.
Something I kept noticing over that weekend was that several people were like "da fuck is this guy talking to me for?" before recognizing me, and there were a small handful of folks I know that actually never made the connection or acknowledged me even though I passed them by several times.
Because of the latter few folks, I guess what I'm wondering is if it was really difficult to recognize me without glasses, and if it -is- difficult, should I just walk up to everyone I know that has yet to approach me since this switch and just say "hi" so they're aware of the change.

Changing how I prep for cons.
General | Posted 10 years agoI thought about FWA for the past week straight even though I never fully had the time to request work off, and I'm going to wait until next year to try and attend. I don't wanna risk a job over a con, as much as I still want to go- I'll wait until next year.
I figure this: When I was first attempting to make plans back in December and January, I should have requested the time off of work right then regardless of how concrete my plans were, because if all else failed, I would've just had a bit of an extended weekend at home. From now on, I may just plan cons this way just to make myself more available. This was an oversight in my plan for FWA this year just because aside from MFF 2013 and MCFC 2015, I've pretty much wung it with all others and lucked the hell out, still being able to attend.
That said, I'm still making plans to do AC, and MFF.
For AC, at the moment I don't have a room, but eh, I'll figure something out. I really want to go again. I had a blast last year with and everyone else, and I really want to do that again- if even just so I can have summer traveling plans.
Yesterday I managed to book a room for MFF with two double beds, and currently don't have any roomates. I had a heck of a time trying to find em for MCFC until
helped me out, though I've got 8 months to prep for that. We'll see what happens there. I had a blast last year, chlorine incident and all. I suspect knowing more people by the time I attended in 2014 helped out a lot, but at any rate, giving MFF a second chance last year really redeemed the con as a whole for me. I'm looking forward to attending again for 2015.

new year's almost here
General | Posted 11 years agoThis one's been kinda nuts. First year without my grandma. First year living independently. First year doing long distance traveling On my own. It's Had It's ups and downs for sure, but overall It's been good Overall.
Bday is kinda around the corner but I'm not mega excited for that after last year's polar vortex hit around then. Over the years I've been pretty content with just messages about it from folks, though my roommates insist on making a cake or something silly like that. :p ah well.

I didn't see any altercations or anything like that, and everyone looked like they were having a good time. I met up with too many folks to list, and met just about as many as I caught up with! Overall, I'd rank this as better than even the time I had at AC, though this and AC are both pretty damn epic in size. I'm hoping to go again next year. :D

And would anyone in my neck of the woods know anything about FWA? was suggesting I check it out, and the only person somewhat near me that I know has attended is 
since I have no experience flying, amd I wouldn't be able to drive it (10 hours give or take) I'll take any travel advice for that I can get. :p

youmacon 2014 report
General | Posted 11 years agoWent out to Plymouth to nab around 7 on Friday and we navigated out to Detroit from there (Da fox makes a better gps than my actual GPS to be honest). And we got there about 7:30 I think it was. Reg line was dead as fuck, so that happened pretty fast. After that it was basically time to set up in our rooms. Super late into that night I couldn't sleep so I ran out to the rave around 2am and ran I to amd got a hug & such. Watched some sets, then went to bed after that wrapped.
Saturday went pretty good. I just spent most of the day taking photos and such, then palling around with some of the kill la kill cosplayers in their photoshoot, then the afternoon & night drinking with kommy and some buddies of his in their room. After that we got out of that hotel and I got to fursuit for the first time ever that night, thanks to kommy. shit, that was too fuckin fun. XD my ass is eager to do it again.
Lateeee Saturday night the coworker I was rooming with decided to do drunken mario kart, and I found out she kinda drinks like a fish xDD 100 proof absolut and such. Passed out late in the morning and went to bed After wwatching some of those shenanigans.
Sunday I hung around the dealers den and
found me around there and we caught up. Havent seen her since anime central, so that was fuckin niceeee.
After that we packed our shtuff, had elevator hell to deal with, and took 38 flights of stairs down to the parking garage & left.
Apparantly some old friends from high school were looking for me but their phones were perpetually dead the whole time, so even if I were trying to contact em, I couldn't. At any rate this has been Definitely one of the damn best anime conventions ive been to, equalling the first (youmacon 2013), and I'm looking forward to the next. Whoever I go with and whoever I run into will be a surprise, but shit I'm sure it'll be just as fun.
