Came out to my best friend yesterday
General | Posted 13 years agoJust kinda felt like enough positive change has gone on lately to make me comfortable saying that straight up. Really boasted an already good mood, I guess ya could say? :P
He told me basically that he'd already had that idea for years, which is something I'd expect from someone I've known since '97/'98, but the cat's out of the bag for real now. I can dig it. Nothing's really changed in the slightest, other than he's asking me what kind of dudes I like rather than women. XD

The Harry Potter Videogames
General | Posted 13 years agoNow, I haven't played them since wayyyyyy back when the characters didn't resemble the actors in any way shape or form, but http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GtkX-9DdMug this video on DH part 2 made me laugh.
Now, within that game itself, I don't understand the concept of having to unlock new spells, considering they spent the past 6 years at school learning them, hence they already know em by this point in the story. O.o Like the video says, the games kinda screw up the universe here and there.
And well, from what I remember about the ones I played, if you did it right, loading screens aside, you could beat the main game sans subplots in less than a day if you really wanted to. >.>
I dunno, check it out if you're bored dudes. xD

It's 1am
General | Posted 13 years agoI find myself falling behind with classes for the first time in awhile. @_@; Bleh. Hope the profs won't kill me. At least I don't make a habit of it on purpose.
I'm definitely not a hardcore furry
General | Posted 13 years agoGuess the title's a little misleading since I'm just making a small summary of stuff that's happened over the summer.
On the social level this summer, I've gotten to do more in person-interaction within the fandom than I ever have before- still shy as always, but eh, it's a start, no?
I've run into some folks online that'd say to me OMFG YOU -NEED- TO GO TO *ALL* THE CONS! (GET A FURSUIT! WHO NEEDS FINANCIAL RESPONSIBILITY?) BLARGALYARGLE, and I used to get myself bummed that I'd miss out on stuff like that, but shit, I've come to the conclusion that I'll make time for that someday (I don't want a fursuit, though. Not interested in that).
I'm totally satisfied with the small gatherings I've been part of so far. Met a buncha folks that I'm sure I'll be able to see again (
hawkwolf
chadfoxx
dbear
keto
sheppymilo
briggswolf
Takoda_Hotah
keetcollie ) , and I'm totally cool with that.
It's been real nice to see the person behind the twitter or fa icon, and furry or not, it was just cool to get out and meet folks.

What have you dreamed of doing, but just haven't done yet?

What kind of grades do you strive for?
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm about a week into classes right now, and I'm just wondering, what kind of grades do you try and get throughout the semester? What do they actually become at the end? Do you reach those goals or fall a little short here and there?
Icon idea
General | Posted 13 years agoI haven't seen this around, but the idea just popped into my head. If anyone already had this done, point me in their direction so I can see the work done!
Know how a lotta folks have those soda icons from
greykitty? Something just popped into my head along those lines: Star Fox icons. Like, when a character in those games goes to talk to ya, a little photo of the character in their cockpit pops up in the corner of your screen. :O
Random thought of the day.
-Edit-
Okie dokie, I probably should have looked before posting! Anyway
rickgriffin has done something like that with his character! :D Not too sure where the exact posting is, but right now as of this posting it's his icon. :p

General | Posted 13 years agoI've noticed it's easy to get in real currency stuck in purgatory with certain things. As far as I'm concerned it only happens to me with say, Steam and the like, but I'm pretty sure you can't transfer in game cash from say Farmville and the like back out to your wallet.
Like, I can put 20 bucks in my Steam Wallet, but nothing will ever cost 20 bucks. 19.99 or 18.99 or 9.99 or what have you. I'm sure I'll always have some kind of money just stuck in there forever without any way to transfer it out. :p

General | Posted 13 years agoI'm doing my annual re-viewing of FLCL tonight. It's still got the same charm as it did the first time I saw it. :)
It has nothing to do with furry
General | Posted 13 years agoI've noticed within the fandom that whenever certain topics get brought up, more often than not, other furries have to relate that topic to furry. I've seen it enough to bug me quite a bit.
For instance, I know I've brought up my transportation issues too many times, but I've gotten responses to that from people making the assumption that I want a car to get more involved in the furry fandom. Well I have news for you: That's not the reason.
I'd like to get a car in order to maybe find a better job than McDonald's (it'd be easier to travel the town and go farther to work with my own car), or to get to know this town I've hardly got a clue about (don't have any friends here, and I don't know where anything is. I've got one person whom I'd call an acquaintance, but that's about it. Maybe I'd get to hang with coworkers more often since I know more westland folks).
I've heard everything from "Don't get a car for furry; it'll set you up for failure", to others in a bad transportation situation responding "If I had a car myself, It'd be furmeet after furmeet for me." Both of these responses were received after I'd made the mention of wanting to see friends, and the assumption was made that "friends" was code for furries.
This bugs the living piss out of me. I've got friends I've been in continual contact with since elementary and high school, that post high school I've rarely gotten the chance to see in person. I'd like to see these folks on a regular basis like I used to do way back when, and having my own transportation would do that. If the folks making these assumptions that I'm getting a car for furry would simply talk to me and try to get to know me better, they'd know this is what I'd like- furry's not so big a part of my life that you'll see me getting a car primarily to hang with furries. I don't deny that there are folks within the fandom that I'd like to meet, but it's very far from being my primary reason.

I canceled my AT&T service and still got billed.
General | Posted 13 years agoI was told by AT&T after canceling my service (I was two days into the billing cycle), I could pay the last bill and get credited back, or wait and get a reajusted bill later on based on how many days into the cycle I was (I got two days of service before I canceled).
I did the waiting game for the readjusted bill, and my grandma didn't tell me about that bill when it came, but now I've seen it. It's the same amount I owed before + a five dollar late charge. :\ Way to screw me, AT&T.
Gran's set on not paying it since she's figuring 'hey, this is what they told you, so this is what they get.' - That's more of a paraphrase, really. I really do feel misinformed now that this has turned into the outcome of that. I can understand being frustrated to not want to pay it, but she's gotten herself into crap before by being stubborn like this.
Anyone else have phone bill trouble like this?

I really lack a social life
General | Posted 13 years agoI've realized over the past three years that my social life's fallen to near non-existence. I really envy the folks that can get out to see their friends, even if it's only for a single day a week; I don't even have that. I get to see mine maybe once for a day and a half, roughly every couple months. Months.
I realize that my current situation won't last forever since I'm working on getting transportation, though that in itself isn't something that can be taken care of in a short amount of time, especially with a singe min wage income, and hell, to a lot of folks out there, I'm sure they'd tell me "That's tough luck kid, stop bitching and get over it."
Meh, some days are better than others. I've just been longing for regular face to face contact for three years now. I miss that a lot, and if anything I wish those that have that in their lives could show more appreciation for it.
I suppose I should get my butt to bed and shut up.

The first rule is...
General | Posted 13 years agoGot my aunt a Kindle about four days ago. She hasn't touched it aside from going through the user's guide, so I used it a little in the past couple days just to get in-the-know, I guess you could say?
Found Pride and Prejudice for 99 cents, Les Misérables was free, got Fight Club for about 9 bucks (though I know quite a few books can be found for free on Amazon, or even 99 cents, I'm still unsure why this is. I realize they don't have to print paper/use ink/etc, but still, I'm very iffy about it all. Guess I should do some reading on the business aspects of how that's possible). Been getting into it, really. >.>

Mass Effect 1
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm not even sure if I'm even half way through the main story, but hell, I'm already seeing massive replay value here.
The only time I've ever seen anyone play a Bioware game was when Mitch was playing Knights of the Old Republic. I'm not sure if that really counts too much, but ey, it was probably a stepping stone to M.E. :P
Never played a game like this before myself, as I've said, so I've had to warm up to it before getting as into it as I am now. I'm still only playing in short bursts since I wanna do something other than sit behind a screen every once in awhile. I'm really seeing replay value in this after getting a little progress in, and gotten used to gameplay. Dunno when I'll finish, but hey, I'll take my sweet time. :)
Not using a guide since I did that with Majora's Mask when I was ten. I feel like that completely ruins the experience, especially considering I turned to it for EVERYTHING. It's still a big regret of mine. XD

Go to bed
General | Posted 13 years agoOkay, things have been chill for the past six months as far as money goes, though from time to time the last fight I had with my grandma pops into my head.
Long story short, my grandma's got a compulsive/addicting attitude about gambling. As I've been the only person with a job in the past four years, I've been the person she'd steal from. I really don't even want to think about how much she's taken, and I won't say she owes me- I'd like to, mind you, but realistically I'll never see it again.
A little before winter break I decided to visit Zach out in Ypsi. I'd made the mistake of leaving my wallet at home. She found it and took what she could out of checkings, and a fair chunk of what I had in savings for a car. When I finally got back and found out, I'd had enough. Got in a huge fight and yelled back and fourth. In the middle of it all she told me "go to bed."
"Go to bed."? I mean, I'm not a fucking child throwing a tantrum for no reason. I felt like I was being treated like a dog. You stole from me, therefore I'm upset and yelling at you. There's a reason for my anger, dammit.
I was so stressed out that I called off work and spent the whole day thinking about whether or not to file a police report. The cops said it was my fault and there wasn't anything that could be done, which made me more upset.
All I know is I've been doing something right between then and now, because nothing remotely close to that has happened. Been watching my wallet like a hawk, which I shouldn't have to ever do, but I guess that helps. I just hope things continue like this for awhile.
Just kinda feel like it's high time I posted something about it since I was too upset at the time. Maybe I'll stop having a thought or two about that day pop into my head now.

Phone interview? Phone interview.
General | Posted 13 years agoI just missed out on a phone call earlier today from the local Ikea asking for a phone interview, and just received an email now about it, requesting that I respond with the time I'd like to do this interview on the phone.
I'm a bit confused by the fact that it's a phone interview, just because there's things about people that just can't be picked up on over the phone. My guess is it's just to get a general idea where you're at and what your plans are or some such, and they'll ask for another interview if I do well enough.
I'm being exposed to new types of interviews quite a bit now that i think about it. The first one I had was a standard one on one, second one was in a group (which out of any type I've had, I find group ones to be the most hellish. Kept comparing myself to the other applicants in the room, and falling far behind in comparison. >.>), third was one on one again, fourth and fifth were very impromptu "you filled out the job application 30 seconds ago and we're going to briefly question you" and now there's this phone business. :P

More coworker convos!
General | Posted 13 years agoMe: Hey, you have to go on break. Let me take over for you.
Coworker: Okay!
*le 30 minutes pass; she comes back*
Coworker: Hey, why don't you stay in my position while I take over what you were doing?
Me: Okay, well do you want to get lunch product for me? (been working with this particular coworker for the entirety of my employment. She knows I do that job every time I've worked with her. O_o)
Her: Oh hell no, that's not my job. Nope. Nada.
Me: (inner monologue) That's why I do it. Every day. I don't know why you bother to ask if you're going to refuse to do part of the job. >_>

Addictions and money
General | Posted 13 years agoDo you know anyone in your family or in someone else's that had a problem with gambling, or just being unreliable with money when it came to any other kind of addicting activities?
(those of you that drive) when did you learn?
General | Posted 13 years agoBeen getting a lot of crap from left right and center about how I should have been learning to drive at 16 from quite a fair number of different people (you folks online are awesome at relating, I'm talkin about folks at work/school/what have you that I've seen around).
Now, there's no real rule on life that says you're supposed to be 16 and start driving right off the bat, and the reactions I get when I tell people my circumstances, age, and that I'm not yet licensed, I get the feeling they believe I've done some kind of crime against humanity and that driving is like some kind of rite I've missed out on or something. :P
I know I reflect too much on the negative, but ey, I've gotten far too many people treating that as if there's some time limit to get it all done, and that just bothers me.
TL;DR , my question to anyone reading this is: How old were you when you were learning? I'm curious!

Coworker conversations
General | Posted 13 years agoCoworker "Man, we need more help in our area."
Me "Well hey, we got this new person coming in today. We just gotta train em."
Coworker "...Nu uh, I can't do that. They don't pay me enough here."
:/ I've heard variations of this over the past four years I've been at my job. Maybe I'm just a damn walking mat, I dunno, but people seem to give me statements like that a lot. I just think it's counterproductive as hell to say "we need extra help." and then not be willing to train em when we finally get them.
