Practice, filming, Oklacon, and new songs update.
General | Posted 13 years agoWe're making a special shout out video of us play a few songs for a select group of furs in our watch list and a couple of other people.
Expect that video on the 16th and we'll put a video out on the 17th right before we leave for the Oklacon show of our entire set list from beginning to end so those of you who won't be rocking with us at Oklacon can rock with us at home while we're playing the real deal.
The video is not a completely polished performance and there are a few rough spots that are over quickly. (I.E. Guitar coming in half count late, wrong drum beat for given part, vocals a little flat, and bassist is really boring, etc., but it's completely unedited save for the dual angle secondary shot inlay which provides a view of us from two angles which is coooool!
Anywho, it's been a while since we recorded a new song. We'll have more time for that after we stop practicing so much for this up coming show! :) We've been tied up, but hopefully the furries still give a shit about what we're up to/will give a shit after the show.
We're currently working on four new songs, one that is pretty heavy throughout, but they won't be completed until at least November 1st.

Funny fact
General | Posted 13 years agoHalf the members of the band have less total page views than the band page.
We're nailing it!
General | Posted 13 years agoWe played the set several times today and we're getting it down tight. With the new equipment, practice sounds good; therefore, it's easier to play for long periods of time without as much earache.
No video this week unfortunately because I forgot to charge my camera, but we did manage to squeeze out a band picture emblazoned with the new band name.
Thanks for all of your support, furries!

Changes!
General | Posted 13 years agoAfter an at random drawing from a hat, our new band name is Ghost Town Cowboys which won over Sinister Descent, Kill The Foxes, Hands In The Earth, and Bunghole Liquors.
New band photos will ensue as well as a new icon and thumbs for submissions. I just haven't finished one yet.
There is a changed set list and that's about it.
Rock on, Furries! We hope to see you October 19th to come see us play!

$1500 Later
General | Posted 13 years agoWe now have a nice 120Watt PA system, a new 6 piece drum kit (which is bad-ass!), a Celtic Cross mic stand, a boom mic stand for my vocals as well as another mic. We're rolling in new equipment and it was like Christmas!
We rocked out until about 2 in the morning, then turned in. The new drums are really different from my four piece that I usually played. The toms and snare sit higher, the bass drum is tilted back, and everything is closer to me. It creates an issue and it's going to take some getting used to, but a wicked drum solo will ensue during the show in October! OKLACON, SUCKAHZ!
Rock on, yall!

New Songs
General | Posted 13 years agoWe're going to try and drop two more finished tracks. It will be the two WIPs we have in the gallery.
We may do a metal version of Creep by Radiohead, I just have to talk Theron into it.

The EP
General | Posted 13 years agoWe have all the songs that we need for an EP (The songs currently in our gallery), the only problem is getting a professional recording. Either a December or January type thing will be to pool cash together to record our EP professionally to sell at Wildnights.
Unfortunately for you guys, we're only really going to post the recorded works that are free to make. If you want an EP (when we fucking get around to getting it recorded) you'll have to buy one. Hooray for commercialization!
Thanks for reading and cross your fingers with us that we won't get lazy and fail to get this CD done!
ALSO! We're looking to record some covers next week when we all have money to throw away. They'll be King Of The Road and Your Cheatin' Heart!

Contributions.
General | Posted 13 years agoWe FINALLY hammered out Burden In My Hand by Soundgarden which is an easy song to play, but for some reason we all had different ideas for how the song was laid out. It took three weeks, but we're actually able to play that one now.
Derrick left his camera at home; therefore, there is no video, but we did have a crowd come and watch us play. It was pretty neat . It was a small group of about 12 people whom mostly was Derrick's family. He also sits behind a drum kit and doesn't contribute a whole lot.
Pachua had a crazy awesome idea for the King of the Road cover. If you're familiar with the song, the music stops several times throughout. To make the song not as androgynous, every time we stop we play the next segment faster. The song ends on a very punk rock feel with quarter note ticks, punching bass and simplistic but quick chord progressions. It's become a favorite of the group to play with.
Amsu (The Jackal) has pulled off some of the wildest screaming pinches on the coolest points of any one song in the set. For those of you coming to see the show, be prepared to lose a frequency in your hearing. It makes every song go from whiney alternative to some of the coolest bleeding metal hybrids.
Theron has really developed his vocal range in the best way. His guttural growls and insane screams have become some of the most iconic points of any cover we're doing which really throws individuality into doing rather well known songs. Of course, we're not forgetting the completely distinctive voice that he has which has given the band a much more full sound.
It is safe to say that if it wasn't for Theron's intellectual input and song writing, Pachua's quick learning of songs and covers, Amsu's raw skill and imaginative cover style , and Derrick's... hmm... equipment... A Dozen Dead Furs would have never exsisted/not been nearly as good. We really have specific elements that we bring to the band that really makes us.
Thank you to everyone that is watching, listening, and faving!

Not much has changed
General | Posted 13 years agoAlthough there isn't much new to tell, we still want our watchers to know that we are still alive and still doing our thing. We haven't recorded anything new in a while because we're all working ourselves to the bone in every minute of free time to hammer out the kinks in the up coming show. It's so close we can taste it.
We hope to record something pretty soon. We have lyrics and a basic tune down for another original that is still being worked on, and we've got the fundamentals down on the two country covers (King of The Road and Your Cheatin' Heart), but we're hammering out elements to make it original and fun.
If y'all have any questions about the band (equipment, work ethic, member details, etc...) feel free to ask. We love to give out too much information.
By the way, we're rehearsing today which will most likely result in a video. :) If you don't like our videos, we probably won't stop making them so you're SOL.
ROCK ON FURRIES!

Okay, so we didn't record...
General | Posted 13 years agoBut we practiced hardcore and shot some really good video!
All of us pooped ourselves out with a practice from 6pm until 2 in the morning, but we officially can play the first four songs of the set without major hiccups. We're all working really hard to get down the two country covers and we're trying to nail down one more original.
At any rate, it was a good night for us and we made a lot of progress. It was pretty typical, Derrick kept screwing up and claiming it was everyone else's fault, the jackal was getting the order of the songs completely retarded, Pachua slowly learned how to unplay the bass, and Theron rocked out so hard that he would run out of breath mid song, then attempted to blow out his vocal cords by screaming in the completely wrong fashion. Somehow, we managed to make music happen and we have three songs, (raw recordings without edit from a single mic)
It was an interesting night, but it went better than we all thought. We may actually put on a hell of a show where we thought we were cramming too hard. We'll still cram, but it will be in way that keeps us generally looking forward to the experience instead of nervous about it. Anywho, that's us!

Three new songs and a video next week!
General | Posted 13 years agoWe hammered out the kinks in the country covers. We've got Your Cheatin' Heart down to a "T" while King Of The Road is a bit troublesome, but it's going to prove to be a really fun song. It is complete with the bass walks and all that jazz! :)
We hope you'll enjoy the recordings we'll post soon of those songs next week as well as the new original, 'Hopefully, I'll Be Dead Soon' by Derrick Lesters.
We're going to be rehearsing on Saturday which will result in a movie for y'all to watch. :) Videos for the win.
Post here if you'd like a shout out from us. I like doing that for our beloved Dead Furs! :))
Thanks for all your support,

We have our schedule!
General | Posted 13 years agoI felt it was important to post this for us:
Quiet practice every Saturday afternoon (Meaning no drums) from about 3pm to 6pm.
- Rehearsals with drums and the whole kit and caboodle -
Rock the fuck out - 8/4/2012 - First Half of set and moving the drum kit out to Bristow because of the FUCKING NEIGHBOR.
More practicing - 9/1/2012 - Second Half of set.
Set Run - 9/29/2012 - Hopefully, this will go well.
Set Run 2 - 10/6/2012 - Work out the kinks.
Set Run 3 - 10/13/2012 - We should have a perfect run today. If not, I'll scream.
All the rehearsals will result in videos that you can watch!
That will be 6 practices and 5 rehearsals. We can do it, fellas, but let's not slack! We're getting really close!
If anyone knows me and wants to come to the rehearsals, we'll be more than happy to have you after Sept. 1st, and we're working out a date to stream a live quiet performance of Brain Stew/Last Resort, Face To The Floor, WISHS, Animal I Have Become, Burden In My Hand, and My Burning Rose.
We hope to see all of our Dead Furs at the show. It'll be a blast! Furries aren't as into metal as we'd hope, so we're going to need you to help us get the crowd involved! ROCK WITH US AT OKLACON OCT 18th through the 21st!
The Set -
1. Brain Stew/Last Resort - Green Day and Papa Roach Mash Up.
2. Face To The Floor - Chevelle Cover
3. WISHS - Original Song by Derrick
4. Animal I Have Become - Three Days Grace Cover
5. Burden In My Hand - Soundgarden Cover
6. All My Dreams - Original song by Theron
7. King Of The Road - Roger Miller Cover
8. Your Cheating Heart - Hank Williams Sr. Cover
9. My Burning Rose - Original Song by Theron
Currently, I am working out a cover of King Of The Road and Your Cheating Heart. I'll record and post the covers this weekend.
Hope this is helpful for everyone!

I can't believe it was a week ago...
General | Posted 13 years agoIt's hard to believe that it has already been a week since our last song! We really hope you all enjoy it, we poured alot of work into it.
We're working on a new song by
and it's a hard hitting complete metal song that's pretty hardcore throughout. It goes a little soft for the breakdown, but it's pretty much like All My Dreams.
Theron and Derrick have decided it would be better to get away from the melodic scene and try to hit harder with a more breaking sound. That means more screaming which is a plus for those of you who like our metal side, but we're not completely abandoning the country tone that we're going for. (which means more songs about the crime of passion against wives, drinking too much then getting into a fight, and an ice cold whiskey sour on a warm Alabama night for those of you who like that.)
It's been really fun being a furry band. It certainly kicks way more ass than all the other regular jack off bands that we're in. At least we know all the members have their head on straight. Except for Theron... but that's why he makes such a good lyricist.
Thanks for listening, reading, and watching. Y'all keep us going!
_Derrick Lesters The Hard Rock Llama (The Drummer)
Also! We're going to go to Phoenix and record an album after a short year. We're all too excited! Theron has connections like that. :))

Due to the short set...
General | Posted 13 years agoWe are adding another original which should be completed soon (like, this week). It's a much harder song than y'all will be used to. Instead of it being melodic for most of the song and going heavy for the breakdown, it is heavy for most of the song with a soft break.
has written lyrics to the song which I highly approve of, and
will be throwing a sweet guitar solo on the track. There is also a brief bass solo in the mix that
will be slamming on there.
The song will basically be an example of what we are really capable of and will either garner great rejoice from the listeners, or it will crash in a ball of hell fire. Of course, this is the plight of any creative endeavor that is reviewed by a fan base. They'll either love it or hate it, but that's a risk we're willing to make. (More or less, we think you'll love it.)
The other song is a metal cover of Your Cheating Heart by Hank Williams Sr which is destined to be great. We promise not to shit on the golden oldies!
A *POSSIBILITY* is a metal cover of King Of The Road by Roger Miller. Which one we do is really up to what the fans would like to hear the most because we all realize that it's y'all that empower us. It's not selling out to cater to our fan base. Since when was it not cool to want to be liked? :)
Anyway, that's what we're up to,

Practice
General | Posted 13 years agoWe rehearsed for the first time as a full band in the right places with the whole kit and kaboodle.
The police were only called twice. One cop said, "It's not that loud." and the other said, "Hey, I play the bagpipes!" and showed us his bagpipes that were in his patrol car.
We're moving practice so that we don't run into that one asshole cop that would cite us.
We did take video and it will be up on you tube sometime soon.

General | Posted 13 years agoNow that we completed our old list:
1. We're working on getting one of our cover songs recorded.
2. Writing another original song by the 15th of next month probably won't have it recorded by then.
3. Get the set down to a T and record a video of us playing it, but that's an end of next month type of thing.
4. We'll be making a music video for My Burning Rose

We'll keep you all posted on what we're doing,

Burning Rose
General | Posted 13 years agoSo, we got to recording the vocals today and we realized that we hadn't felt out the song enough to record. We're working on it right now and it ended up getting an entire re-write. So, what I'm basically saying is that the lyrics are going to be changed and that the song will re-posted sometime next week.
I really wanted it done this week, but that doesn't look like it's going to happen. It'll be a great song when it gets done.
Keep rocking!
