Super Duva Update - Finally right?
Posted 6 years agoHey! Super Duva isn't dead. It's just taken forever to get things sorted out for the V1 suit. The first person wasn't any help. Second person was kinda there but then ghosted me. Third person was ok-ish. But this guy, this guy has some cool designs and blueprints. I have them all sorted out for a full suit. Should be roughly 40 bucks. YES. 40. Freakin. Bucks. But that means I'll have to do it all by hand. Not a problem. I can take time off and chip away at making it.
So this guy is very heavy into Destiny/ D2 cosplay making using papikuras. Offers both blueprints for papikura and non papikura printing. Not gonna lie, I did really like the D2 armor sets a lot and still do. It'll be a mix mash of sets along with my own flare to help make it stand out more. I'll get some premade silicone sets from various prop makers to help distinguish V1 even further.
Suit V1 is the only thing I've been waiting on to finalize. I think I'm ready. Come next paycheck I'm buying all the blueprints and finding a good week to take off. Duva will be made. Mark my words.

The Story of How I Got an El Chronicle Promotional Standee
Posted 6 years ago**Here’s a long story but with a very good ending. The tale of how I got a promotional standee. For context, I was at Anime Matsuri 2019 this weekend and didn’t expect to start drinking once I got to the parking lot. Every time I went to their booth, it was always empty.**
Ok look, listen, y’all, this standee is now a prized possession. Let me explain. When I first went to the booth I saw standees and fell in love with them but didn't know what they were. I left and came back later that day. Found out it's from El Chronicle from one of the game's assistants. Maybe it was the alcohol but I was bolder and timid than ever. Asked if I could buy a standee because I loved them so much and it's all I could think of. We talked. He took me to the owner of the booth, the head advertising manager. We talked more. She turned to her team and talked in their language for a bit. I hear them giggling. She told me to download the game, finish the tutorial and come back the next morning.
Y’all...look, I was a mess in the hotel. I deleted 4gigs of stuff, restarted the phone 3 times, and tried to keep up with the drinking party. (it's hard to concentrate while being on the verge of losing it.) I finish installing it at around 12am. Staid up till 4am playing before blacking out. Wake up at 10am as a mess and have trouble seeing.
Finally make it back to the booth at around 2pm. different assistants but the manager is still there. I show her not only the tutorial is finished, but I'm halfway through the second world. She’s beyond happy. She pulls out a handful of standees from behind the table and says to pick one. There’s the 5 that are on display + a few that are not. I'm partially conscious and admit I can't see very well without glasses or contacts. The team is laughing so they bring them right to my face. I pick the fox girl since I haven't seen her at the booth. (later found out she’s Maeho, a demon who summons other demons via her gourd.) The manager tells me they're not supposed to give out advertising material for the game. But because I was the only one who showed genuine interest in the art, the game, and made them laugh, they bent the rules. I thanked them so much I was about to cry. (or maybe it was my body losing control. idek.) The team pulls me aside and asks for a photo. I'm lost as to why. The manager says she's sending it to the devs and to the artist. I was crying and dying.
So now there's a photo of me in the hands of the devs AND the artist. I'm lost for words but so very grateful to them.

Code Vein Pre Orders are Confusing

Amazon - pre order weapons, PS4 theme
Gamestop - pre order weapons, PS4 theme, poster (if you're fast to pick it up)
Bestbuy - no bonus mentioned on either system's product page.
Bandai Namco store - pre order weapons, set of 4 pins
I've emailed Bamco to see if they offer the PS4 theme too. If they don't, surprisingly, Gamestop has the best looking offer. I'm not a fan of Gamestop anymore so it's kinda "well...it's the most bang for the buck."
And a really bizarre thing is, Code Vein digital PS4 version isn't available at all. Not on the sites listed or on sony's online store. The Xbox version can be bought digitally tho.

Detective Pikachu is pretty good

With the number out of the way, and nostalgia goggles off, it's a fairly good movie. Not mind blowing story wise by any means. It's fairly generic though it has new elements that push it above. It leads you one way with evidence then it's "oh what a twist" moment followed by "yo but this tho" and finally "it was this all along~". Definitely feels like it has a Villain Identity crisis. Or throws too many leads that you figure it out before the reveal.
The mons look good! Bulbasaur wins the movie. Believable for sure. There's just a few parts where you can clearly tell the CG is superimposed on the film. Also there's a big action scene that starts great. Sadly the CG slacks around the last third of it and kinda takes you out of the moment.
Jokes were....semi childish? Clearly staying in that PG range. It's just, a lot of jokes have been used to death. If I'm being blunt, it was a generic checklist used by old marketing execs. "Include a pee joke. Hungry joke. Gotta have that romantic comedy." It's very clear when they want you to laugh at something. But the theater, kids and adults, were silent. Then there's a few scenes that didn't have that "pause for laughter" moment which made the older crowd laugh. Didn't hear kids really laugh. Only 1. ONE. Kid laughed...during the preview for Angry Birds 2 trailer.
Acting was good. Ryan nailed it as Pikachu. The boy (forgot the actor's name) was fairly good too. The female supporting role (forgot this actor too) was decent.
Final bits, the ending song Carry On, very catchy. Fitted nicely with the overall theme of the movie and ending credits.
Also Angry Joe gave it a 6/10 and hits some of the same things I mentioned. :\

Art Improvement and 3D Figures
Posted 6 years agoSince I got my tablet I've been drawing during lunch, studying anatomy and following more artists on Twitch/Twitter. It's been a nice experience feeling that warm supportive energy. As I've been improving my art I can see possibly making 3D figures in the future. Not too long ago an artist I kinda admire randomly announced they would be opening 3D printed figure commissions. They had the first printed out already and it look beautiful. The mass support was amazing.
"Dang, well, guess it's time to pack it up and not try to do that. They're far more experienced than I am. They have a top quality printer. No need to push forward with this."
At least, old me would've said that. Being in the art community really proved and bolstered that there's room for all levels of skill. Even though that artist is doing top quality prints, I could do my own prints--for possibly a far cheaper selling price--and do my own thing. I guess I'm just saying, I'll be doing my own thing instead of comparing my skill level to someone who's far above me.
Also Duva is still on hold. Probably gonna fall back to building things myself since there hasn't been much luck getting hold of a good and affordable armor maker.

Posted 6 years agoSelling figures of characters has crossed my mind several times since 3D printing has gotten more...accessible in general. I don't mean general characters of popular anime/games. I'm talking about some older stuff that doesn't get love.
Would you like a figure of the main protag of Sky Blazer? What about those of Okage? Or og anime Hyper Doll? Hell let's do Magical Witch Punie-chan! Or the colossus's from Shadow of the Colossus. (Do you know how hard or impossible it is to find the 3in gacha series figures????? To this day those are the only know official figures.)
There's a lot of series that get no love whatsoever. Honestly it started because I myself want some of these figures but just can't find them. The biggest problem I can think of is the copyright holder rolling up and slapping a massive DMCA on me. I get it, it's their property. Fair point. But there's no love for their IP's. The second biggest problem would be creation time. 3D printing time varies let alone painting them.
Maybe one day I'll pull the trigger and actually open a shop. Who knows. Midnight thoughts.

Just Beat KH3 - no spoilers
Posted 6 years agoI'm so upset with how they handled the "tie up" of everything. I was audibly saying NO while watching things go down. It's like they purposely tied 90% of the strings together and threw the others as if saying "better go catch em". I really did like the visuals and new attacks. But the groundwork for the battle mechanics were unchanged from KH2. They had time. To fix this. Or tweak it so that it isn't so infuriating.

Kingdom Hearts 3 is good
Posted 6 years agoIt's very good. Only beat 3 worlds so far but it's SUUUUPER cutscene heavy. Like, I've spent more time watching instead of playing the actual game. Also combat felt a little wonky at first.

I only use Wish cause it's cheap. Plus I can wait for things to get here. I just get frustrated that their support is incompetent.

Anime Matsuri 2019 confirmed
Posted 6 years agoIA is making the first debut in Houston...and I'm going. I couldn't pass this up. I missed Miku when she was in....Galveston? Or was it California? I had no way to go to the Squid Sisters or Off the Hook show. So you'd best believe I'll travel to see a 3D idol show.

Posted 6 years agoUPDATE: We've learned it's an old door handle from a few months ago from when my housemate's ex broke the door. Exact same handle. Owner was just cheap and didn't want to buy a new handle. Possible false alarm. We're leaving the boards on....cause it's late and we want to sleep LOL.
Because everyone's been gone for Xmas, I've been manning the place alone. Everything's been fine but today we found the side door handle completely ruined. Door doesn't open at all. Thankfully we had a second bolt on it for just this reason cause we noticed the activity before. We've drilled a board to the door frame and blocked it with concrete bags and storage.
We've concluded that it's happened at night when we're asleep.
Fun times.

Posted 6 years agoBeen watching a lot of streams lately and LadyKubu has been an inspiration. Naturally I've been wanting to get a cheap tablet so I can draw in the car. Heard the Amazon Fire tablets are ok for casual drawing. Still no solid plan on what I'm buying, just looking at everything.

I'm semi disappointed with it honestly. I knew Kadokawa wasn't going to do it justice and it showed with the first episode. Rewatched S1E1 just for reference for why I liked the show. S2E1 had a looooooooot of changes that didn't sit well with me.
*Character models changed and became less detailed. Kinda obvious given what happened and how Kadokawa chose to react.
*Animation cut. I swear there's moments where models kinda snap into new poses. On top of that the FPS randomly drops to like 20 or 15 FPS.
*VA changes. Granted PPP is still the same, but Serval sounds so different. Either she was straight up replaced or she doesn't have the energy from S1.
*No Learning Segment. In S1 it was a huge reason why I liked the show. Not only did you see the Friends you learned about the irl animal. S2 just gutted it.
*Generic, generic, generic. I took damage watching how generic S2's writing was. Things seemed way too rushed for the sake of rushing.
Really sucks that Kadokawa has sucked the original charm clean out of Kemono Friends. But I'm a Japari Stick and will still watch it cause it's Kemono Friends.
Japari Buns are from S1. Japari Sticks, Japari Chips and Japari Soda are now canon via S2. I AM DA STICK!
In case you don't know what the Kadokawa deal is, I'll give the TL;DR. Kadokawa saw Kemono Friends S1 as a failure so didn't give it resources. Tatsuki and a team of 8 poured everything they had into the show. Show blew up in popularity. People flocked to it and praised Tatsuki's team for showing their love for the project. Kadokawa saw that money pouring in and kicked Tatsuki out of the project. HUGE backlash from fans. Kadokawa didn't respond but forced the VA's to respond. More backlash. Kadokawa announced S2 without Tatsuki. Fans felt betrayed.
RIP Kemono Friends original charm....*sets reminder for EP 2*
