Long story short, media has given the impression that non-experts stories are of equal consequence to the decades of research and hundreds of papers when in reality it should be an open and shut case. This false balance news reporting largely stemmed out of news organizations wanting to make things seem "fair" when fairness is not always equal, especially when you are discussing something like public health.
One of the stories compared a lot of tainted food getting pulled, and in reality this falls into the false analogy fallacy, because vaccines and food products are not anywhere close to be similar.
for more information on the False analogy fallacy --> https://youtu.be/XZ-qspBsbqA
So for me who works in a pharmacy to have people tell me that they do not trust the new COVID-19 vaccine really makes me viciously angry because this virus has left numerous people with permanent lung, heart, and other damage. And if you think getting shingles is more concerning than this, shingles is less likely to kill you or even cause permanent damage and virus that causes COVID-19 had been proven to cause serious and permanent life altering problems.
So for the love of all that is holy, Please get your vaccine, regardless of which one you get, get the vaccine, it has proven effective and safe with 0 risk of actually giving you the disease, especially because 2 of them, Pfizer and Moderna, are mRNA vaccines which simply give you body the instructions to build the protein spikes from the outer shell of the virus. A vaccine type that has been decades in the making.
But maybe with this, people will see just how effective vaccines are and how little harm they do. There was a huge push to eradicate Small Pox because of how devastating it was, and people got to see just how effective vaccines were, but now people don't see all that harm that can come without vaccines, so they have become blinded by a few fringe cases.
And we only this is mostly an issue in the US, cause I rarely hear about this being an issue outside of the US.

The Truth About COVID-19 Vaccines ft. Dr. Seema Yasmin
General | Posted 5 years agoThe gist is, this is a new type of vaccine which does not make use of any whole virus, whether alive, weakened, or dead.
they are using mRNA to have you own body replicate the antigens that help your body produce the antibodies necessary to recognize the virus, so you are not even replicating the full virus.
Even immunocompromised patients can receive this vaccine.

Friend Needs Some Help with Vet Bills
General | Posted 5 years agoFriend of mine, demoneyess, has a cat who for the past few days has been eating very little, which he is a bit concerned about. The vet he took his cat to on Sunday was not the most helpful from what I have experienced, and his job has only been having him work very minimal hours, sometimes only 1 8 hour shift a week, so trying to take care of vet bills has been a bit hard.
For a little more detail here is his journal: https://www.furaffinity.net/journal/9726624/

If any of my watcher scan help, it would mean a lot to both him and myself, because he lives by himself with his cat, and with how things have been going this year, his cat has been his company.

General | Posted 5 years agoOn Blocking People on the Internet
General | Posted 5 years agoSo I was actually browsing via serach on FA when I tried to fave a piece posted by a user from the artist I was using the search for to find that said user had me blocked and I was unable to actually favorite the piece of art. This kind of surprised me because I have had no direct contact with said person and to my knowledge haven't even been in the same internet space as them in group channels/servers on places like Discord.
I am sure a lot of this has to do with the somewhat recent events involving the protesting going on, which is fine, we might have differences of opinions, but I had found that most of what my stance was on the matter was being misconstrued into a straw man argument by having some preconceived concept of what my actual stance on it was. If you saw my previous journals, you know where I sit, and if you have talked to me personally, you will understand that my view on the matter is far more nuanced than what some people were trying to make the issue, so I am not going to go any farther than that.
As most of you know, or maybe do not know, I tend to enjoy conversation and discussion on complex topics that have no singular right answer, but have a lot of really bad answers to how to handle them. I also try very hard not to block people on any platform regardless of what our disagreements may be. I don't hold any ill will towards people for a long enough period of time for it to matter, because we are only human after all, and to paraphrase the words of Carl Sagan "It is our responsibility to deal more kindly with one another."
I honestly wish more people would live by the words from his Pale Blue Dot reflection/speech. It really speaks to how we live in an age of some imagine self importance and that we define ourselves by what and who we surround ourselves with creating this illusion that we should just tune people out simply because we don't agree with what they are saying, or what we imagine them to be saying. It is so easy for someone to misread on the internet that it really underscores our need to take things at face value and not read between the lines, and that maybe instead of just outright blocking someone, maybe challenge them or get to know what their positions actually are and where they actually stand on various topics.
Understanding and Compassion is the first steps to recognizing how important it is to stop and listen to other people. I tend to be more Buddhist in my dealings with people, finding that the philosophy there shows us just how much we can learn from one another even in our differing opinions and biases.
And in doing so, I have made a promise, to myself, that I will always give someone a fair chance, that I will always try to take what they say at face value, that I will do everything I can to be a better person, and I wish more people would consider this, because I think this is what would make the internet less of place of drawing lines in the sand and place where people can build things together.

The Quartering of Troops | Police Militarization [YT]

This is a long video I know, but he did a damn good job going through how the police got to where they are going, and he did it without saying that all caps are bad or any of that, but her did a good job pointing out the cracks in the system and kind of where they came from, but also some solutions to the problem and how things more recently have gotten a lot better.
There is so much nuance missing from what is going on, and I appreciate that he has helping fill in some of the gaps.
