Posted 10 years agoi know updates from this page have been few and far between. i'm sorry folks, its been tough. I thank all of you who have been listening ears for the occasional vent, supportive paws when i don't want to continue, and encouraging voices when i have nothing but self-hatred.
today is Veterans day, in the United States and Armistice in much of Europe, marking the end of the First world war, and a remembrance of every man woman ( and in some cases Child ) who have fought for their country. remember your soldiers, because there are few who show more courage than those who defend others.
Also it is this Wolf's Birthday, marking a 23rd lap around the sun. i would like to give a preeminent thank you to those offering congratulations. Here's to you and yours

I have had a Latitude E6510 Laptop since i Started college 5 and a half years ago. Now, Its battery and charger system has crapped out on me. I have been getting battery life warnings for a while, But, being relatively naive about the various computer makers, thought that if i kept it plugged in, the charger would keep it powered just fine.
Turns out i was wrong.
now, Either the charger won't read of the battery won't charge off the charger. either way, after about 45 minutes, I get a slab of plastic until i can find a power outlet, it likes so it can charge. However, it is $120 plus for a battery... not optimal, even with a fresh paycheck.
there fore three Questions.
1. is there a way to diagnose, on a Windows 7 dell laptop, if your lack of power is coming from the battery, or the charger?
2. at this point in the computer's life, is it better to Replace the battery, or Just purchase a new Laptop?
3. looking for a fairly solid high Performance laptop, ( 1TB HD 4GB+ Video 2.2Ghz+ processor ) which manufacturers do you recommend, and what price point should i be looking for?
p.s. Mac's need not apply

Posted 11 years agowell, I've been quiet way too long. I haven't posted a journal since last Christmas, almost a year ago. I haven't been up to much , just more of the same, School , work, trying to figure out what to do with this thing called adulthood. I turn 22 today, and well i wouldn't call last year successful, it certainly didn't get worse.
I'm 22 now. when you're little you don't think you'd ever get here. it seems like forever just to reach 16. then all of a sudden, things move fast and you're here. I'm constantly having to remind myself that 2010 wasn't last year, but nearly half a decade ago. i don't mind it, its just something new to ponder.
I would like to thank every one in advance for any birthday wishes, but i ask those of you int he United states to remember that today is also Veterans Day, a holiday to honor those who have served in our armed forces. I don't care what your personal politics are. i don't care if you are a pacifist, a militarist, conscientious objector, what ever. you should take the time to honor those who put on the uniform, because it was their sacrifices, that allowed a country to turn from Thirteen colonies across the sea, into one of the most powerful nations to grace the planet.
Shalom, my friends. i hope i will not be as silent in the coming year

Veterans Day ( +2 acheivements unlocked)
Posted 12 years agoFirst, Honors to the day and its heroes.
We must take this day to remember those who Serve in our armed forces, and the sacrifices they make for us. God bless you. The United States Has an all Volunteer military. You do not have to serve, EVER. Those that make that choice, to defend their country, in anyway possible, deserve the utmost respect from the People, for they have decided to watch for us, and if need be die for us. This day should always be about them.
that said, it is also My birthday. my 21st birthday. which since i live in the U.S.A. means that i am now legally able to consume and Purchase Alcohol. I'm not entirely sure my liver is ready. Prost!

Posted 13 years agoso i was gearing up for a Con this summer, once school was done and i had some money in my wallet. however, the biggest problem i've facing right now i deciding between anthrocon which is closer ( and a hell of a lot bigger) or Megaplex in Orlando. Megaplex i would have a lot more friends at plus the parks if i wanted to extend my weekend and such. however, here are the logistics
i need to know which one i'm going too by the end of may, so i can schedule work and any summer courses needed around the con in question, and determine how much money i will have to spend.
i need to figure out how i'm getting there, especially for Megaplex as i have to book a flight in.
thirdly i need a room or a spot to stay with another person, because i like being in one of the con hotels and i do not like rooming with complete strangers.
so my questions are, which would you pick, and does any one already have a room for either of these two.

3 times in the past year and a half..
Posted 13 years agoYou know, I try to be a nice person, I really do. I understand there are things that I do that are either annoying, or grating. I have my opinions, and maybe way too much knowledge ( I'm sure it will come in handy someday, Honest). But then there is some incident that estranges me from someone who i thought was a friend, or perhaps a close acquaintance. and now it starts to bother me that i have had three of such instances happen in the past year and a half it starts to worry me.
I am most certainly not trying to please every one, or be popular. I know that the former isn't possible, and I am quite happy the current crop of friends I do have. However, when what was once a good relationship withers and dies , and the other party refuses to tell me what exactly I have done wrong, it irritates me, gets under my skin. One has yelled at me, belittled me and accused me of "tagging along and trying to suck up", another has simple refused to acknowledge my attempts at reconciliation, and the third for some reasons has stated to want little to no contact, especially no positive support, from me. I don't understand the problem, i have tried my best to be kind and friendly to the people I interact with. The few outbursts you see on here are times at which my outlook slips and I give in to anger and stress. All I want is to get along, and fix my problems. By not telling me what I have done to upset you , I can't fix it.
TL;DR if you have a problem with me, be civil and talk to me. I'm willing to fix my mistakes and apologize

Merry Christmas
Posted 13 years agogetting this is before the rest of the family gets up because.. well. couldn't sleep. i love Christmas. maybe its the good cheer that everyone at least TRIES to up hold, maybe its hte beautiful music the church plays during the mass, maybe its just the thought of for once, there is a day were everyone can agree to stop thier quarrels and delight in peace on earth.
World War 1 wasn't suppose to last the 4 years that it did when it began in July of 1914. it wasn't supposed to make it past Christmas. but that first Christmas, in the trenches in Belgium a small miracle happened. it was Christmas eve, 1914, and both sides were in their respective tunnels, when suddenly, a large group of German soldiers, unarmed, went over the top and approached the British lines. they offered the Brits some food and beverage and the opportunity for a truce that Christmas, and perhaps even a game of soccer. this lasted through out the night and the following Christmas day, until each side's high command could corral their soldiers back to their lines and convince them to fight for their country once again. For 36 hours, peace reigned in the middle of the beginnings of the largest war to that date, All in the name of a little child who had been born almost 2 thousand years prior.
I can't speak to the status of peace in our world, but i do know that today, while i run around between both side of my family, exchanging gifts, and good food, i will take some more time to remember that . there can be peace, for as long as we want it so long as we have the conviction to make it so.
Merry Christmas, and if i don't see or speak to you to you before then, Happy New Year

what one makes of 2 decades ( a birthday journal)
Posted 13 years agoI was born on November 11th, 1992. it was a Wednesday. I was 2 weeks early, but that was god enough as i had tried to arrive about a month earlier, and through some very useful drugs i staid in mom to cook a little longer until the 11th. i was born in Endicott, NY which is one of three cities that grew into each other in southern New York State ( the other two are Binghamton and Johnson City) after a year there i moved to Buffalo, and have remained in Western New York ever since. in my life time the world has changed. The cold war ended, the internet started, high technology started in earnest. when i was little , the one computer in the house was an Apple with green and black binary screen and dual floppy disk drives. thats right FLOPPY DISK. now, the laptop i'm writing this on can CRUSH that with its own processing and memory, and takes USB, CD, SD, and laserdisk, as well as having wired and wireless internet hook up, and resolution as good as most console TVs. my mom had a cell phone as big as an old school chocolate bar, and now i have a phone that can message you 5 different ways, connect to the internet and take pictures. i have an original release copy of The Lion King on VHS. from the time i entered school to the time i graduated high school, we found out that brontosaurus never existed, T. Rex was related to Bald Eagle, and Pluto wasn't a planet ( i still dispute the last one)
the bad stuff? well lets see. i remember the monica lewinsky scandal being on the news ( hadn't a clue what the matter was but hey i was what, 4 when it happened?) as well as 9/11 , the challenger disaster, katrina, deepwater horizon, the tucson shooting, fukishima, the aurora shootings, and finally, Benghazi and Sandy. not to mention the economic recession that is still hitting some parts of my country hard. i understand these things better, though some it is still senseless to me. but part of it makes me weary.
you may say that i'm only 20 i shouldn't worry, i'm young. i tell you, i feel old. i feel old knowing all that happened since my birth and knowing that the next 50 years or more is going to have its same technological marvels, its tragedies and triumphs. i feel old knowing that the kids that are in school now, don;t know who the original 5 power rangers were, or don't know about saturday night's toonami, or who " Doug" was.
BUT. there are things that make me fell young again. Finding the Furry Fandom, where i always feel just shy of being a " grown-up" and i can wag my wolfy tail to my hearts content, was one of the best things that happened to me, finding a part of myself i didn't know was missing. discovering that my passion for history, and how things happen DOES have an impact on people and is a viable career ( some how) has given me a new grasp and energy for my academic career.
Yes i feel old. But this has been MY 20 years. and if the next 20 are ans interesting as the last two decades, then i'm ready to see exactly what they have to offer
thanks for listening - Teller

FWA get
Posted 13 years agoi'm really interested in doing another con, after my great experience at furfright 2011. however, i have limited funds, and limited time. the three cons i was thinking of were Furnal Equinox, in toronto, Anthrocon, and Furry weekend Atlanta. while FE is the obvious , easy choice, being so close to where i live, there isnt much draw. neither the theme, nor the programs and artists that have been released to the public interest me, and i have no stock at all in the quests of honor. Anthrocon, is WAY too big for me, and the hotels are almost fully booked as it is. this leaves FWA. FWA is long ways a way for me, and i would have to fly down. i have negotiated with my parents about flying, and i can cover food and registration. however that leaves one problem. A room ! I'm willing to get a room my self, but i would be much more financially comfortable with having a room mate or two. if you or any one else can help me pout, please reply to this message, or send me a DM on twitter wolftellerbard.

Merry christmas.
Posted 14 years agoi hope you have a merry Christmas. this holiday has been used as a means for end of year sales, and spiritual renewal. but im not here to talk about that. i use Christmas as a way to look back at my year, and years past, and remember. i remember the people i have gained and lost, what the years has brought me and what i have given it. you may think this is something for new years, but really, you only have two days then to think things over. christmas gives me the whole week. and while i celebrate and ponder, revel and think, i wish a merry christmas and a happy holidays to you and yours, may you enjoy yourselves, and be safe.

home
Posted 14 years agojust a reminder to my self about what home is.
I'm from Buffalo. We eat chicken wings, not Buffalo wings. Mighty Taco, not Taco Bell. Pop, not soda. They are sneakers, not tennis shoes. It's a sucker, not a lollipop. Bison chip dip, La Nova Pizzeria, Aunt Rosie's Loganberry, and Ted's Hot Dogs are all too familiar. We have fake IDs at 15. Our bars don't close until 4am. Jim's steak out at 4 in the morning ...is calling it an early night......We... never cuss, but we swear entirely too much. We know that a 65 mph speed limit really means 80. We will cut you off, swear, and give you the finger if you are keeping up AND do it all in the snow, while expecting nothing less in return. Driving in the snow not only comes naturally, it is fun. We start the weekends off right at Thursdays in the square while enjoying beer, free music, and an interesting crowd. We lived through Wide Right, The Forward Lateral, and No Goal. Dubbed by Dan Marino as "the meanest fans because no-one actually wants to live here..." We love the Bills (no matter what) and accept that it takes 2-4 hours to get home from a game. Nothing closes in 3 feet of snow or -20 windchills...in fact, that's how we prefer to tailgate. We can correctly pronounce, spell, and identify Chippewa, Scajaquada, Lackawanna , Cheektowaga, Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Olean, Tonawanda and Gowanda without hesitation. We are 30 minutes from another country, one of the seven wonders of the world, and even a few beaches. It's the second largest city in New York. I AM FROM BUFFALO, a drinking town with a sports problem.
