Willowood patch released (1.0.1)
Posted 3 years agoIf ya have the alpha 1.0 version of Willowood, I'd recommend downloading it again to get the patched version (alpha 1.0.1)
Mostly minor bugfixes/adjustments and one small content addition, but one of the bugs fixed was one that could cause you to get trapped in Maple's house with no way to leave without being eaten.

On Willowood (again)
Posted 3 years agoSo I unfortunately didn't make my goal of having an update ready or in final testing before the new year, which is a shame, but I'm also getting pretty close to being there. I have some dialogue to finish as well as two more vore scenes I have the intro to but haven't actually written yet. I'll probably do most of the testing and proofreading myself this time, which could extend the time it takes a bit, but as long as I can keep a semi-decent pace, I think it shouldn't be too much longer.
Looking back at what I've done for this update with a mind for future updates, I think at least some of the delay was caused by me trying to add things I didn't have much inspiration for and didn't fully want to do, which would result in me looking at an unfinished portion for a while, not having any ideas, and then deciding I'd figure it out later, on loop. This tells me I need to narrow the amount of fluff content I'm doing because I think people would like it, and focus more on the design and programming challenges that actively interest me.
I'm not gonna give another estimate on completion this time, but I can at least leave y'all with a fairly confident "Soon™"

How doggie doin?
Posted 4 years agoDoggie doin, okay!! :D
Honestly mostly just posting this to replace my last update because it's not as relevant anymore. While I still definitely struggle with the things mentioned there, I have things a bit more under control right now and I've been feelin relatively good. I'm getting much more work done on Willowood, I've been helping Symbol out on Retale 3 where I can, and I've been making music again!
If I can keep a good enough pace goin I may bring back the monthly progress updates, though I might also change them out for irregular progress updates just for whenever I have lots to share.
Anyways, that's all!! I hope y'all are doin well too, I'll seeya around!

Hello. Some info/updates/venting (mostly venting)
Posted 4 years agoI'mma be straight up with you, this is a bit of a vent post, and I'm gonna spend a lot of time talking Problems. Some might call it oversharing. It's going to be very personal and contain some very frank discussion of my state right now, and if anyone reads this I hope to encourage some understanding and discussion of the types of things I'm going through both physically and mentally. I'm sure if you know me or have followed me for a while, you're aware of my illness, which remains unidentified and disabling, and is the strongest influence on what I'm going to say here. I'm not trying to garner sympathy here, but I want to explain myself a bit and try to talk some about my state of mind right now when it comes to my projects and the way I interact with people.
Firstly, I feel an incredible amount of guilt over the glacial pace of my main project, Willowood (Go ahead and skip this whole paragraph if you're not interested in that.) I've lost a lot of support on it, and I know it's because I'm not providing much in return for the support. I believe it's now been over a year since the last release or thereabouts, and I really don't have anywhere near as much to show for that year as I'd like. I feel guilty for accepting money for that project while unable to work on it consistently or often. What's worse is that this same anxiety makes the project more difficult to work on in itself. A regular occurance is that I spend hours feeling compelled to work on it, but then when I sit down to do that, I begin feeling nauseous from the anxiety and have to stop very soon. The question obviously comes to mind "Then why continue running a Patreon for it?" The honest answer is that I'm unable to work due to my illness, but undiagnosed and therefore not receiving any form of disability assistance. Because of all this, the small amount of money I get from that is actually quite significant for me. Due to the lack of activity, the majority of remaining supporters are close friends who are very aware of my situation, or at least as aware as I've made anyone of it. This doesn't kill the guilt or the compulsion to try and work past it, but I feel I have little choice but to get what I can at the moment. This is all to say though that I don't believe I can treat it as a high priority in my life right now and I want to be clear about that, and for it to be understood that things will continue to take a very long time until hopefully I can get my more serious problems under control.
Anyways, all that aside, I want to talk about the changes in my social life as well. Old friends who knew me from at least a couple years ago have probably noticed a stark difference in my presence. To put it concisely: I know the vibes are wack. I know I'm less present and certainly far less chipper than I was. I try not to let my frustration show too much, but I don't think I can really communicate the nature of the stress I'm under. I find myself really wishing I could be the upbeat and supportive friend I tried my best to be, and hopefully succeeded in being, when I was in better health. I've also been spending a lot of time while I've been sick analyzing and trying to explain a lot of my longer-held emotional difficulties. A major one is that I've often felt lonely even around others. I've become increasingly aware that the source of this is a massive disconnect between my internal emotions and what I say/show to others. I have an mental block that seems to prevent me from displaying emotion without consciously deciding that I'm okay with displaying it first. This is why I often take a few seconds to answer when spoken to, and rarely have very strong reactions to things. It's also why I sometimes sound so clinical even when I'm trying to vent, like right now for example. In public and in stressful situations, it can often reach a point that I have difficulty speaking at all, which is why I have trouble securing much help for myself. I have suspicions as to when and why all this developed, but I don't want to go into that on such a public platform. What I do wonder is if anyone else experiences something similar, and if they might have things that help them cope.
But moreover I'd like to apologize to my friends for not being around as much anymore, and for never really being there when I am. I promise I'm trying to be there, but it's difficult to actually communicate with people through such a heavy veil of dissociation.
Anyways, that's enough of More Info About Pubby Than Anyone Asked For. I just felt a need to talk about not just why I am the way I am lately, but also what exactly "the way I am" is.
I'll seeya round, have a good day everyone <3

Monthly progress update 11/1/20
Posted 5 years agoHello again!!
I've been kicking into gear again with now ideas and plans for where to take Willowood, so let's get into those a bit fist. First of all, while I'm hesitant to name just who it is yet, I've talked with an artist about commissioning headshots of the characters and he's said he'd be happy to do it, so there should hopefully finally be art of them in-game in the next update! In addition, I've been working on fleshing out the lore of the game. I've been moving all the info for disparate notes and my memory over the a World Anvil page and adding more detail I can draw from later. This may also involve going through and editing some text that's already in the game, as there may be some changes that contradict things in the game.
This past month has involved finishing up a lot of things I had left unfinished, most of which are complete or near-complete now. At the moment I have a lot of energy for the project, so I'm hoping that'll carry me through a lot more work

Monthly progress update 10/1/20
Posted 5 years agoHallo!
These are becoming a little bit less monthly, aren't they? Apologies for that, I skipped last month because I ended the month working on the same things as I had been at the start of the month. However, this past month I've found a whole new energy for working on the game and got a decent amount of work done on it!
First and foremost, I've been working on character quests. These are small objectives you can get that you can follow along with the learn more about the characters in the game. I always love working on these because they let me add more visible depth into the characters and explore how they'd respond in different situations. In addition, I've also been continuing to flesh out other dialogue and start working on some new vore scenes, the usual things I work on between larger sections.
I'm planning on trying to get all the dialogue and non-vore interactions in Maple's house done this month. Also considering adding some idle background music into certain places, but we'll see how that works out

Monthly progress update 8/1/20
Posted 5 years agoHiya! First off, sorry for skipping giving an update last month, I admittedly made poor progress and didn't have much to say.
Most of what I've been working on in regards to Willowood recently has been entirely dialogue. The dialogue trees in character homes are far more extensive than any elsewhere in the game, so that means a lot of writing, including events that they can lead into. I want to make it as rewarding as I can to befriend characters, so that means a lot of work on these interactions
As with my post from a while back, I'm still very sick and work is still slow, so while I do still encourage people to support my work if they want to, I still request the understanding of those who do choose to support me that there will be months where I have very little progress to show.

Monthly progress update, 6/1/20
Posted 5 years agoHey hallo!
I'm gonna be straight w/ you, I barely got anything done this months. Not to say I didn't work, I indeed did and I got some small things done, but as mentioned last month, my health hasn't been exactly helping me out here. I did, however, at least manage to play around with some events where characters in Willowood can be found having eaten one another, and I ran a poll for Patrons over which character I'll be working more on first, and it seems the presumptive winner of that is Maple, so I'm already planning out some stuff I could do with her house!
I do have good news as well. The other day, I got some mail, and it turns out I was approved for medicaid, so I'll finally be able to see a doctor soon. This has been an absolutely awful couple months of my life, so I'm incredibly relieved that I finally have some help available to me. This doesn't necessarily mean I'll be back on the horse immediately, but it means I'll potentially start feeling better soon and be able to work more so long as a cause and treatment are found.
For now, again, I just ask for your patience with me!

Monthly progress update, 5/1/20 - !!Important note!!
Posted 5 years agoFirst off, before I get into anything else, want to say I've been extremely pleased with the response I've gotten to the second release of Willowood. I couldn't be more happy that so many people have enjoyed it so much, and it's made all the hard work I've put into the game thus far feel so worth it. Thank you all for that so very much, genuinely <3
The main thing I need to address right now, though, is that my progress over this past month has been extremely hindered by my physical health. If you're close with me, you probably know this already, but I feel I need to address it publicly that over the past six weeks or so, I've been hindered by severe health issues that I've still not been able to work out the cause of. I've been perpetually extremely fatigued and unsteady, among other issues, which makes working on things for any length of time an difficult challenge. I've been trying to focus on my health and see if I can figure out what's going on and if there's any way to recover, but I'm still unsure when I'll be feeling better if I can expect to at all.
I'm continuing to work on Willowood as much as I'm able to without over-stressing myself, and I'm keeping my Patreon open and considering it an obligation to get some progress done on it each month so long as there are people funding me for it, but progress will be considerably slower for the foreseeable future, at least until I can regain some sense of rhythm while working with newfound hindrances.
That all out of the way though, here's what I at least was able to get some this past month, once all the bugfixing and patching for demo 2 was out of the way:
- A small new gambling-style minigame which can be played with Klaus in the Pub by challenging him to a drinking context. The design of this one differs from others as it's intentionally but if you've got the money to rick on it (and the lives), it may be a good way to befriend Klaus!
- Some expansions to Pupcake's dialogue, as well as items which can be bought from him, including a fortune cookie, which I'm allowing patrons to fill in the possible fortunes you can get from as a fun little treat for helping with the game
As for the goals for the next release, I want to greatly expand interactions with every character, including opening up the homes of as many of them as I can, so there'll finally be a good reason to go through the effort of befriending them. Most of what I'll be adding for this update will be centered on fleshing out the world and the things that can happen in it. I want to make it so that characters will interact more with each other, rather than only interacting with the player, and I doubt I have to tell you that this is going to include letting them eat each other from time to time. Additions to the main story will likely be held off on for another update, but I do have big plans for what'll be found in the woods.
So that's where I'm at right now. I'm still determined to make the game I wanna make, but I will need some patience from people interested in what I'm doing. It'll take some time, but I promise there will be more content, and I sincerely hope I'll be able to be at top form again and getting things done more quickly again at some point in the future. I hope you're all staying healthy <3

Monthly progress update, 3/1/20
Posted 5 years agoWhat-ho, people and otherwise, I've got the deets of what I've been up to this month once again!
First off, that original list of what ended up being 42 variants of vore scenes I needed to write is now down to just 11 to go, so that should absolutely be done soon! I'll probably write one more extra scene as well. I've also gotten a bunch of new dialogue done, as well as another fun little character sidequest that might be a tad difficult to find, but I'm looking forward to hearing from people who do find it. <3
Aside from that, I've been messing with sound as well. As of right now, I have a set of sound effects for digestion. I'm also looking for sounds I could use for swallowing, would massively appreciate if anyone knows any good ones I can use!

Monthly progress update, 2/1/20
Posted 5 years agoTo avoid going radio silent during long stretches of slow work, I'll be posting these updates on the first of each month from now on, outlining what I've completed on Willowood within the past month.
Currently, demo 2 is about 60-70% done, with most of the remaining work being writing-related.
All programming for the police quests is complete and appears to be working exactly as intended. Most of the writing for the characters involved is done too, except for vore scenes, as well as some other various bits I want to get done. So far, only the vore scenes where the player is pred are complete, as I finished the last one today, though the number of variant of these scenes has been reduced from the originally planned number, chiefly because I felt the original plan would have reduced the quality I would have been able to write them at, and the variants cut would have been exceedingly rare to encounter unless you were specifically trying to. There's currently no plans to reduce the number of variants for other scene types, however.
The game now features a small soundtrack, with 5 songs made for this update which will play in various places, mostly during minigames.
On the more technical end of things, I've created an options menu which can be accessed from start menu as well as the player's home. This screen will allow you to toggle music, sound effects, and a few types of content on or off. In character creation, I've added an option to set your character's metabolism, making them gain wait more or less quickly, the exact speed being influenced by their height.
At the current rate of progress, I'm expecting a release to be likely at some point during spring, though that is by no means a promise as I tend to be bad at predicting how quickly I can get things done, and I want to make sure I have something worth releasing before I get to that point.

what heckie why all this vore
Posted 5 years agoI did the math and it turns out the next Willowood update requires about 48 vore scenes, cause of the way I'm doing variants. This is between nine new scenarios, each with 4-6 variants. Plus, there's an extra scene or two which may or may not end up being in the new update, which could end up boosting that number up to like 60
Time to get writing, but this might take a while. Seeya on the other side!
The good news is I've completed most of the music I intend to add in this update

A bit of what I've been working on
Posted 5 years agoSo for anyone interested, this post should now be public: https://www.patreon.com/posts/pirat.....woods-31996879
this gif is a few weeks old and this bit should now be easier to play and easier to read, but that's pretty much the mechanics I've stuck with. The other characters you can fight all now up and developed, I just need to finish up some programming and do a whole lot of writing, but I'm pretty excited about introducing them to y'all

Willowood roadmap
Posted 6 years agoHello! First off, I'd just like to thank everyone for the delightfully positive response to my little demo. I sincerely wasn't actually sure if people would be interested at all when I was preparing to post it, and I was mentally preparing myself for the possibility that nobody would like it. As it stands, I couldn't be happier with the response, and I'm so excited to keep working on it and to keep getting your feedback.
I've just released what will hopefully be the final patch for the first demo, as I think I've addressed all the significant bugs and spelling errors, with the help of a few others on my Discord server. From here on out, I'm going to be working on new content.
Current plans for the future:
While demo 1 was me testing the waters as to whether or not people would see potential in the project, I plan on developing and releasing a second demo which will take a greater focus on the scale of the content. This may take some time to come out, so please be patient, but I'll try and keep everyone posted on how it's going. After demo 2, the game is planned to be updated as regularly as I can with new content and development of the main story.
Demo 2:
The police quests, which I teased in the current release, will be in demo 2. These will be repeatable quests involving their own set of new characters, as well as their own mechanics, and new vore scenes (Including the player as pred!). I'll also be adding new interactions with the currently-existing characters. This is being considered the bare minimum for demo 2 and many of these ideas have already passed the concept phase and been tested and experimented with on a small scale, however I have other ideas I want to work on soon, some of which may or may not be added in that time.
So that's where I am right now. A lot of work to do, but feeling good about it, and enjoying doing the work. I hope to have more to show you before long!
