General | Posted 3 years agoIt's back by popular demand: I'm once again listing my commission queue publicly on Trello! You can check it out here:
https://trello.com/b/onHP8AuZ/ahnik.....mmission-queue
Entries in the queue are grouped by monthly batches but NOT ordered within each monthly list, so please keep that in mind when referring to this Trello.

Fixed Commission Form Bug
General | Posted 3 years agoI've been informed the embedded commission form is not working very well on some mobile phone (screen moving and zooming randomly when tapping text fields).
I've removed the embedded commission form from the website for now to avoid further problems and just replaced it with a link directly to the Google form, which you can fill out here:
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1.....7mxdA/viewform
Pricing and all other commission info is still on the website and should be accessible without any issues!
I'll come up with a better solution to this for the next commission opening. For now, I don't want to mess with things too much while people are actively filling out the form and accessing the site, ha ha.
Sorry for any trouble!

Updated TOS and FAQ!
General | Posted 3 years agoI've recently updated the terms of service and FAQ on my website!
You can find the new ones at these links:
https://www.ahnik.art/commission-me.....rms-of-service
https://www.ahnik.art/got-a-question/faq
Additionally, commission prices are now listed at https://www.ahnik.art/commissions/pricing. The old link,https://www.ahnik.art/commissions is now a dead end and should no longer be used!
If you guys have any questions about the new TOS or FAQ, feel free to let me know!
Or, if *you* have a commission question that isn't already listed that you want to ask, please do so! You're probably not the only one with that question, and it might be something useful to add to my FAQ. :3

I Have a Website Now!
General | Posted 3 years agoI've been working on making a website as a hub for all of my commission information, and it's now live at https://www.ahnik.art!
The site includes links to all of my social media, commission prices, the commission form, my ToS, FAQ, and a contact form. In short, everything you need if you're interested in commissioning me is now hosted there!
The links on all of my social media profiles have been updated to point to the new site and forms. The old commission form and ToS links still work for the time being, but the information on the new site is what's considered official, and I'll eventually delete the content on the old links entirely.
I've also made some other changes like creating a new business email address and PayPal. Any commissions that have already been paid will continue to be managed through the old accounts to avoid confusion, but any new commissions from now on will go through the new accounts.
For now, I encourage you guys to check out the new website and let me know what you think! If you run into any technical issues accessing it or have feedback/suggestions, please let me know and I'll hopefully be able to fix it. :3
Lastly, my sincere thanks to everyone that's supported me in getting this far, either by commissioning or with your moral support. It feels like things are starting to get more official and professional with regards to commissions and I wouldn't be able to do it without the support of a whole ton of people like you. ๐

Back From VancouFur 2022!
General | Posted 4 years agoI was just at VancouFur 2022 this past weekend, and I had an awesome time overall! Much respect for all of the con staff and volunteers that made the event possible and made sure things stayed COVID-safe.
Honestly, I went into the convention prepared for it to be underwhelming, but I ended up having a ton of fun. x3 I got to do a ton of cool stuff like watch some art panels, play charades with fursuiters, and THROW SOME FOOKIN' AXES! (Thanks to Urban Axe Throwing, a local business which I learned is actually furry-owned!)
There was also tonssss of awesome stuff at the dealer's den, and I probably got carried away and bought too much, ha ha. I've posted tons of pics of fursuiters at the event and stuff I bought on Twitter --> https://twitter.com/AhnikSaur/statu.....66409768718351
I've tagged all the artists along with the pics of their merch, and they were all incredibly friendly and cool people, so go check out their social media, support, or commission them! They deserve it. :3
In addition to all the fun stuff to do there, it was a really refreshing atmosphere because so many of the people there seemed to be on the SFW side of the fandom or just not heavy social media users. Compared to the online furry fandom, which tends to be overly obsessed with follower counts and popularity (often to unhealthy degrees), it was such a chill positive atmosphere of people just hanging out based on similar interests.
It was kinda cool and made me aware of how wide the fandom is and that there's much more to it than the slice of it that I tend to spend most of my time obsessing over. Definitely food for thought. uwu
Last thing I'll say is that now that I'm done with con stuff I'll be back to working on commissions and uploading my backlog as per usual so look forward to more art soon!

I'll Be at VancouFur Next Week!
General | Posted 4 years agoI'll be at VancouFur next week! It's going to be my first big convention since I've only been to Howloween before and that one was tinyyyyyyy. I'm really looking forward to some of the events and to seeing what the vendor market at a bigger convention is like!
Curious if anyone else is planning to be there! ๐

Retiring the SFW Twitter
General | Posted 4 years agoSo last year I tried making a SFW Twitter, NikArtOfficial. Originally, what I had in mind for it was that it'd be a way for me to have an artistic presence outside of NSFW furry Twitter buuuuuuut it didn't quite work out!
The problem was I promoted it on my main Twitter and actually didn't create much SFW content to post to it, which meant almost the entirety of the followers it picked up overlap with those on my main. The few times I did post to it, it didn't feel like I was reaching a different audience, just a smaller one!
It's sort of turned into just one more place I need to keep track of commission openings on without getting much benefit out of it, so I'm retiring it for the time being and it can be considered inactive until further notice.
At least I got a heckin' cute OC out of the whole thing with Nik though, and you can definitely expect to see more content of him on my main Twitter going forward! uwu
That's all for now! Cheers!

A Friend in Need!
General | Posted 4 years agoHey hey all, if anyone has a little money to spare,
zivanedison is in a very rough spot after a typhoon. He doesn't currently have reliable access to power or drinking water. Any little bit helps him out right now so if anyone can send a Ko-fi his way, he and I would be very grateful!
If you're not able to donate, you can also help him out by retweeting his tweet or making a journal linking to it to help him get the word around!

โจ Hello 2022, Here's the Plan! โจ
General | Posted 4 years agoHey hey, everyone! Happy new year and I hope you guys are kicking it off in high spirits! ๐โจ
Iโve got a lot of things coming up on the agenda. Of course, I will be back to working on commissions in the current queue and preparing for the next commission opening later this month, but there's some long-term goals as well.
I wanted to get them written down and also hear what you guys would like to see from me artwise (or other things-wise) this year. :3 Hereโs what Iโve got planned:
The Great Art Dump of 2022
I have a lot of old commissions that I've bought from other artists sitting around unposted. 77 images to be exact >W> ๐ฆ
The problem is I post twice a week but also finish drawing two commissions each week, so I never have free posting days to get the art I buy uploaded, ha ha.
But I'm set on finally getting it all posted this year. I'm going to start posting every weekday until I'm caught up. Wednesday and Friday will be reserved for uploading stuff I draw, as per usual, but now Mon-Tue-Thur will get uploads of art I've commissioned. :3
With 77 images to post and 3 available posting days per week, we're uh... looking at 26 weeks of Ahnik commissions getting posted, that's half the year. >W> ๐ฆ Hopefully you guys won't get sick of seeing so much stuff of Ahnik, ha ha.
VancouFur 2022
I plan on attending VancouFur 2022! I say "plan on" because who knows if future COVID developments will cause problems.
But if all goes well, I'll be there and look forward to having a fun time at my first big-ish con! A friend of mine is visiting from abroad for the event and I'll get to meet them in person for the first time so it should be a blast! :3
If anyone else is attending there and sees me around feel free to say hi, though keep in mind I'm a lot more quiet and a lot less interesting in person. :^)
Commission Stuff
I've been thinking a lot about possible improvements to the way I do commissions. One thing I'm looking into is starting to offer a simpler shading tier, such as just hard cel shading that isn't blended out like my usual stuff. This would also involve playing around a bit with pricing, since I've recently felt like my fully rendered stuff has gotten more elaborate than what I charge justifies.
I'm also considering doing YCHs more frequently! They involve quite a bit of work to set up and run compared to normal commissions but give me some more control over the type of art I work on.
We'll see what happens but I'm very open to suggestions if there's any particular kind of commission offering you guys would like to see from me!
Non-Commission Art Stuff
There's a lottttt I want to practice and study artwise this year. I want to start diving into digital painting now that CSP has finally gotten the long-awaited liquify tool!
I also want to do actual anatomy studies this year so I can improve my figure drawing, and read a small library of books on character design that I've built up over the past year.
If I could combine my paid commission work with practicing this stuff it'd be ideal! But the combination of it being very time-consuming and me being a novice to it makes it very difficult to determine how to price something along these lines. x3
T...Trades maybe?
I got to do a few really cool art trades/collabs with artists I admire greatly last year and had a lovely time. It'd be fun to do some more if possible, though my schedule is all sorts of wacky so when I'm available for something like that is very variable. ๐ฆ
Still, it'll be something I'll have in mind amongst everything else to see if I can make happen. :3
That's the main stuff I've got in mind for now for this year! Here's hoping I can get most or all of this stuff done! It'll be a busy year for sure but with luck it'll also end up being productive and fun. :3
If you guys have suggestions for stuff you'd like to see me try or offer artistically feel free to drop a comment or such. ๐
Here's hoping we all have a productive and fun year ahead, and the best of luck to all of you in your endeavors! :3

Software Devs to Support (and Some Useful Apps for All)
General | Posted 4 years agoEvery year around now, I try (if I can afford it) to make small donations to the developers of open-source or free software that I use regularly to support them and their work.
Working full-time freelance this year, I've been using all of these apps even more than I have in the past, so I figured I'd also give them a shout-out on here and recommend them!
These apps all have basic or full versions that are free to use, and receive regular updates. I have been using them for multiple years. They're a part of my daily workflow and my life would be a lot harder without them, so I couldn't recommend them more. I encourage you guys to try them out and, if you find yourself coming to rely on them as much as I do, send the developers a small donation. Independent developers work hard, knowing they'll never see a donation from the majority of their users, so it's nice to show them some appreciation when possible. ๐
Without further ado, The List!
PostyBirb (Windows, macOS, Linux) - The only (to my knowledge) app on this list made by and largely for furries, so I'll grant it the longest blurb here. PostyBirb is an app for posting to multiple art websites at once and scheduling the posts ahead of time. You've probably heard of it or seen "Posted using PostyBirb" appended to someone's FA posts at some point.
It's immensely useful for artists, but also anyone that likes keeping their posts consistent. Since 2018, all of my FA uploads are done through it (including this journal, which I wrote and posted in the app without even touching FA!)
It also supports Twitter, Patreon, e621, DeviantArt, Discord, and MANY more. Seriously, this thing supports websites I'd never even heard of so anywhere you upload to is probably on the list. Being able to write a post description and tags once and have it go to every site is a lifesaver. I really can't talk up this app enough. >> Go check it out here! <<
PureRef (Windows, macOS, Linux) - This one is for the artists among you. If you're tired of having to paste your reference images into your drawing program or having to look back and forth at a separate window for them while you're drawing, PureRef is for you. It lets you put a collection of images in an unobtrusive window that will stay on top of other applications as you work. I use this every single time I draw, which is really the highest praise I can give an app. >> Go check it out here! <<
Tasks (Android, [also a web app if you get the premium version]) - If you're like me and have trouble getting anything done unless you put it on a list first, you'll like this one. Tasks is a to-do list app with all the features you could want and none of the clutter most other apps have. >> Go check it out here! <<
Shuttle Music Player (Android) - For the weirdos like me that keep all their music saved on their device rather than streaming it, Shuttle is suuuuuper handy. I've tried a lot of different music players but this one has the nicest UI for my taste. >> Go check it out here! <<
Mp3tag (Windows, macOS) - Another one for the "I save all my music locally" weirdos. Mp3tag is an application for editing metadata tags on audio files. If you're not sure what the heck that means, you probably wouldn't have any use for this app, but if you do know and it sounds like something you need, give it a look! >> Go check it out here! <<
Bulk Rename Utility (Windows) - This app is for renaming multiple files in a systematic way. You can append text, find-and-replace, or make use of regexes if you're a little more computer-savvy. If you need to number a lot of filenames in order, rename a lot of JFIFs to JPEGs to make them work with a non-JFIF-friendly applications, or just do any kind of mass renaming of files, this one's handy! >> Go check it out here! <<
That's it for now! Have yourselves a great holiday season and new year, and if you yourself are an independent developer, I think you're cool and deserve support.
Cheers!

10K Followers on Twitter!
General | Posted 4 years agoLast week I reached 10,000 followers on Twitter! โจ
Iโm so happy and humbled that there are so many people around who enjoy the drawings I make, and Iโm grateful to everyone whoโs supported me in getting as far as I have in trying to make this my full-time work. :3
When I hit 9K around June of this year, I decided to make it a goal for myself to hit 10K before the end of the year. Iโm really proud I was able to reach that goal, and it feels like a wonderful endnote to my first year doing freelance commissioned art as my primary source of income!
I actually turned it into a little bit of a challenge, and decided I would not upload any art I had commissioned or received from anyone else until I reached 10K, so that I could say I climbed the last stretch of that mountain on the merits of my own art alone. I ended up breaking my rule twice when I did some trades with an artist friend and a writer friend, so that I could credit them for their lovely halves of the trades. Whoops! But I otherwise stuck to the rule, and considering I reached my goal 2 months early Iโm going to call that good enough. ;3
10K has been a number Iโd had in mind for a long time. Around the time I first started posting my art, all of my favourite furry artists and commissioners were sitting at around that number so it seemed like a massive, unreachable milestone. With the fall of Tumblr and Twitterโs growth over the past few years, the follower economy has changed and 10K isnโt quiteeeeee as huge of an accomplishment as it used to be (those 10K artists I mentioned are now mostly sitting closer to 20K or more), but itโs still something Iโm very proud of having achieved. :3
So thank you everyone so much for your support! Iโll keep doing my best to improve and create even better content for you guys. ๐โจ

Separate Twitter for Extreme Fetishes
General | Posted 4 years agoHey all!
I've made a new Twitter that's going to have my really weird fetish stuff posted to it so I can keep it separate from my main Twitter. Link below!
https://twitter.com/DvoraksDen
This is gonna be where I'll upload things like feral stuff, weirder vore, body part TF, and anything else that I feel would scare people off my main if I posted it there. There's nothing on the account just yet, but there will be soon, so give it a follow if you're into that stuff!
ALL of my content will still be posted to this same FA account, because juggling multiple FA accounts would be a nightmare.
Lastly, for those of you that didn't know, I also have a SFW Twitter for clean art, if you're interested in that too. :3 Link below!
https://twitter.com/NikArtOfficial
That's all for now! Cheers everyone, and thanks as always for your continued support. ๐โจ

Telegram Art WIPs Channel!
General | Posted 4 years agoI've created a Telegram channel for sharing art WIPs for those interested!
This channel will have stuff that won't get posted here on FurAffinity or anywhere else since I don't wanna clutter my main social medias too much with WIP stuff. x3
Link below! :3

Patreon Changes!
General | Posted 4 years agoHey hey everyone! Just wanted to make a quick update regarding the state of my Patreon!
Long story short, the Patreon is being converted to just be a tip jar! All my art from now on will be posted publicly rather than some being limited to Patreon only! Past Patreon rewards are no longer accessible through joining so it really is purely just a tip jar at this point. Wanted to make an announcement about this ASAP to avoid people joining by mistake thinking there would be art to see there!
Past Patreon rewards are being kept private for a few months out of respect to the patrons that paid for exclusive access to them, but will be made public after that, since I don't feel anyone benefits from keeping art private forever.
If you guys would like to join the new tip jar Patreon and tip me a small amount each month to help support my creative efforts, you can do so here!: https://www.patreon.com/ahnik

How I Pick Commissions
General | Posted 4 years agoI've recently received several questions regarding how commissions are selected, so I've created a small FAQ for it!

No Commission Opening This Month!
General | Posted 5 years agoDue to **having taken on too many commissions already**, I won't be able to do a commission opening this month, sorry everyone! I may take comms in the middle of the month if possible but otherwise please look forward to an opening next month!
***EDIT***
To clarify, the unplanned circumstances were me taking on too many commissions in advance so I effectively filled my slots this month already!! I'm fine personally please don't worry xD
Had people messaging me all worried something was wrong, sorry for the confusion!

Writer friend is taking commissions!
General | Posted 5 years agoA writer friend of mine,
monroethelizard, has just opened up for story commissions!
He's recently done an absolutely fantastic (and really steamy ๐ฆ) story for me as part of a trade, and you can check it out here: https://www.furaffinity.net/view/39854006/
Hugely hugely recommend you guys to go check out his work, give him a follow, and consider picking up a spicy story for yourselves! :D

Patreon Coming Soon! What Do You Guys Want to See?
General | Posted 5 years agoAs you guys may have noticed from recent updates to my profile page, I've got a Patreon in the works! I'm hoping to launch it in January if I can have everything I need prepped for it by then!
I wanted to get people's takes on what sort of content you'd want to see in there if you're the type of person who would potentially be a Patreon member. I've seen other artists do early access, exclusive art, WIPs, screen recordings of their drawing process, and more! I've got my own thoughts on each of those but I wanted to see what people prefer or really want to see, maybe content that you want and other artists don't seem to offer! All ideas are welcome so feel free to comment with what you'd want to see!
