Roadmap for the Second Half of 2020
General | Posted 5 years agoHope everyone has been doing well recently with the seemingly endless stream of challenges 2020 is throwing at the world. I wanted to share some recent developments and what my plan is in terms of both IRL goals and art for the rest of the year, as I’ve recently laid it out for myself.
The news! I recently made the decision to leave my job! It was a great experience but as the time approached to extend my contract at it I realized I’d already achieved my original goals in taking it on, that it was absorbing too much of my time (working at a medical company in the middle of COVID will tend to do that, ha ha) and that I could be earning more in a different position given my education, so it was in my best interests not to spend any more time there.
The plan now? I’ve currently got enough banked that I can cover my essential expenses well into 2021 if necessary so there’s no urgency to find a new job immediately. So I’ve decided to take some time to myself with these main goals in mind:
(1) Catch up with friends! I have a lot of unread messages sitting around that I just haven’t been able to reply to in the past months due to business, so I want to spend some time reconnecting with my friends. ;w; 💚
(2) Start posting regularly again! I still have that big backlog of both my art and commissions to post, and I’ll be doing that weekly again. First up are some pieces I got from friends for my birthday back in May that I’ll be posting this week! ^^ 💚✨
(3) Complete my commission queue! It’s getting close to done as it is and clearing this off my plate will let me finally do some personal art and grow more as an artist!
(4) Take some online programming courses! To dust off my programming skills and catch up on any recent developments in C# and C++ I’ve missed, as this is the area I’m going to aim for in my next job!
(5) Decide on a long-term plan! While my area of education is software development, I don’t want to work in this industry forever. I want to have a job I can be truly passionate about. I believe it’s never too late to chart a new course for yourself and that’s something I plan to do in the coming months. It will likely require me to save up to go back to school for another degree in whichever field I choose, so I’m ready for the long haul, ha ha. I’m staying optimistic for the future. ✨
(6) Start job-hunting! Once everything else is done, it’ll be time for me to head back into work! Again, the goal for now will be a software development job as it’ll be both interesting and allow me to save up money for future plans the quickest, but this will be a stepping stone to future goals rather than something intended to be permanent.
That’s it for now! I’ll be writing another update later this year once the first five things on that list are done to update what my next steps will be and what you guys can expect to see from me. For now, expect to see my weekly uploads start back up and me being more active in general again on Twitter. Hoping for all the best for everyone as we keep riding out this rough year together!

On COVID and the Black Lives Matter Movement
General | Posted 5 years agoI’ve recently been quite vocal on my Twitter about my stance on the matters of the ongoing COVID pandemic and the Black Lives Matter protests. For both issues, the US is the current global hotspot of activity and I hope that any of you living there are remaining safe, healthy, and socially responsible. I wanted to make a statement here on FA as well for those of you who don’t keep up with my Twitter.
I hope that all of you are staying safe and healthy as COVID persists around the world. In particular to any of you in the US, please be sure you’re continuing to follow the World Health Organization’s recommendations for social distancing, mask usage, and frequent sanitation despite information you may hear to the contrary from public figures. As always, be discerning and critical in evaluating information that comes from those who have rea$on$ to misinform you.
The pandemic is not over and attempting to rush a natural timeline that’s out of our control will only lead to more loss of human lives. The quickest and safest road to a return to normalcy is to follow the guidance of politically-independent medical professionals. Places like my home of British Columbia that have done so are now reaping the benefits of a safe reopening of our communities and businesses without a significant spike in cases.
I stand fully in support of the recent BLM protests around the world. Racially-motivated police brutality, in particular that which we plainly observe in the US, is horrendous and should incite outrage in any decent person. Systemic racism is a disease that relegates innocent people to second-class citizens at best, and often does far worse.
Remaining “neutral” or uninvolved in this matter is insufficient. Every single one of us is either a victim or a beneficiary of racism. To remain neutral while an unjust system is the norm is a privilege of the entitled. It’s the same thing as declaring yourself complicit in the ongoing cruelty. I have previously made my stance on this clear on Twitter, but had yet to offer commentary on FA, so I wanted to take the opportunity to do so now.
I've elaborated more on my thoughts on BLM in the tweets linked below:

New Year, New Job, and the Status of the Queue
General | Posted 6 years agoI hope all of your new years are going great so far and that everyone is sticking to their new year's resolutions if they've made any! I wanted to give a quick update regarding my life/career situation and how it will impact my commission queue progress.
I recently got a new job! Excitement! It's been going really well, I'm enjoying it a whole lot, and I finally have some real income aside from just commission work, ha ha. I'm currently gunning for an extension on my contract so I can work here longer, and it seems very possible. :3 The long term goal would be to secure a permanent full employment here, benefits and all.
It's even been keeping me healthier, since it's an hour walking round trip for it every day! I've gone down a buckle on my belt without any conscious effort and I feel much healthier with regular activity! Getting out of the house more and socializing with coworkers has been good too. I'm very thankful for this job and it's been a fantastic way to kick off this new decade.
The downside? Time! This is a full-time job, 40 hours a week (45 if you count transit time and even more if you count the time spent each week logging my hours and preparing healthy meals to eat there). This means wayyyyy way less time each week to spend working on commissions, which means progress on them has been a lot slower than what I've been able to put out previously.
If you're a watcher, this won't impact you too much yet. I have a backlog of things to upload and I'll continue posting at the rate I have been for a while yet. Eventually that backlog will run out though and my posting frequency will drop. Nothing to be done about that but I hope everyone will continue to enjoy my content when I put it out!
If you're a commissioner, you're already feeling the impact. Work through the current queue has been much slower than usual and people have been waiting longer than they typically would be to see WIPs. All commissioners have recently been informed about the delays. If you're a commissioner and haven't been informed, check your FA, Twitter, Discord, or whatever preferred social media you provided to me at the time you paid. You can also contact me on here, Twitter, or Telegram at any time for questions or updates.
Your patience is hugely appreciated and I'll be doing my best as always to put out content at the quickest pace I can without sacrificing quality! I'll try to open for more commissions as soon as possible but my first priority is completing the commissions I already have on my plate. ^^

Twitter Gallery Telegram Channel
General | Posted 6 years agoHeya, all!
Since Twitter doesn't have a gallery feature, I've created a Telegram channel where I will link tweets of art by me or featuring my characters:
https://t.me/AhniksArtTweets
It's not a channel for discussion and all I will ever post on there is art for those who are interested. :3
