Hello all, been a while since I made a journal here, seems I don't use this site as often as I used to as my art muse has been fluctuating. But now might be a good time to get it going again with a call-out for commissions, because I'm also pretty flat broke, once again, due to incredibly bad luck thrown our way. ^^;

Here's the situation: My apartment had a small bedbug infestation, and despite my best efforts at containing them, a few were accidentally brought to work with us. So, for the sake of safety, we had to be put on leave until our place could be fumigated. It ended up taking over a week to get it done. Our workplace won't give us paid time off as our positions were audited (IE, though we work full-time, we're only part-time to the higher-ups, so no full-time benefits), and my effort to get compensation via unemployment benefits was denied as well; so our entire month's bills were thrown off, and with having to pay them alongside just having groceries, all of my savings were depleted. I've been relying on a credit card for groceries, and I don't want to have to be saddled with more debt when this coming year should have been better moneywise.

We're back at work now, thankfully, but it's an uphill struggle to have enough money left for food after bills and rent, let alone savings, until tax return time. So, once again I'm turning to anyone here who'd like some art from me, in exchange for a bit of dough for me to put away and get on solid enough footing again that I don't have to worry.

Because times are getting slightly rough; my brother and I still haven't been called back to our normal job after pandemic leave, so to make ends meet we've had to search for new ones. I got one at slightly better pay a couple months back or so, but it's not the best when it comes to hours, and my brother (who lives with me and helps with rent and bills) has been applying everywhere to little avail (it feels almost like they're having fun leading desperate people on, he's gone back to the same place for an interview twice even), so I thought I'd boost the signal on my art skills for a little extra side dough.

So yep, adoptables are closed on FA for the time being. Meanwhile I've been comic-ing alot on DeviantArt (I don't post them here, because I feel people might appreciate something more original from me instead of a fan-comic with characters from an obscure musical), so I'll definitely think of posting pages here when I get to writing down something original.

Seems I haven't posted anything here in the journal space for a little bit, so I might as well warn about the new kinda crazy I'm up to.

Among the many interests I have in science, I've always been interested in the process behind genetics--I.E. how traits in creatures are inherited. It's a lot of fun to play with; I've even designed my own griffins with a customized color genome. I can randomly create colors for critters by a roll of the dice and then blend 'em together. I wanted to do something with it for ages. And now because like many of us I'm stuck at home thanks to the rampant nature of The Disease, I've decided to try doing that thing: breedable adoptables.

Pretty simple really, for those who don't know how that works: I put up six different critters, three male and three female, and people can choose a pairing, then adopt the babies that come up as a result (first come, first serve, one at a time). Like any adoptables, they're yours to do with as you wish: name them, even make them anthros (everybody's gonna be wild-type first, or "feral"), even change their appearance some (after all, you can change the outside, but not the genes)...all I ask is that if you use them anywhere, you simply let everyone know where they came from, and ESPECIALLY credit me if you straight-up use my design somewhere, please. x3

Each griffin pair has two eggs, with genetics randomly mixed, like in real life (for any curious and who know how Mendelian genetics works, the genome guide is also available on request). You can take one, or both; I'll keep any leftovers in the proverbial wings, perhaps to use in future breedings. The pairs will stay up for a week, and then the parents themselves will be up for adoption for another week, and then I'll roll up a new batch. For now, breedings and adoptions are free, until I see how popular it becomes, if at all. :B Or I might start the prices at $5 for breedings and for each adopted parent.

And because I wanna be inclusive, I'll also allow M x M and F x F crosses too; HOWEVER, real-world biology still plays a role. IE, if you want a male offspring from a F x F cross, I'll have to roll a genome for a random donor. x3

In addition to griffins, I've researched the genetics of the coat patterns of domestic cats...and I know enough to do batches of those as well. :3 To make it easier on myself though, pairs of cats will only have two kittens...and because I have magic creatures and cats hanging out in the same little menagerie, the cats may even randomly get a surprise magic trait of their own. :3

So yeah! I'll have the first batches up soon, if there's interest (I gotta figure out a good sized canvas to cut and paste them on), and if there are any other questions, just ask. Me, I'm just gonna have fun being a mad art geneticist, but at least with imaginary beasties. x3

...And I decided to test it out by sending journal updates into the only two art websites that I usually use for art, aside of Tumblr. x3 Glad this was pointed out to me, a while back now to just see if it works, and I can finally post artwork to all places without having to type and retype all my tags and such. :B

Hopefully that means FA will also see more of my artwork that I otherwise post on DA. And my art muse has been a productive little thing lately (though mainly with Cats fanart), so, time to share the wealth. x3

Welp, my life has turned upside-down in a matter of two weeks.

My brother and I were given that long to find a new place to live, all of a sudden; we managed to find a fairly decent apartment, but with him having only just found a new job, after the move and getting settled on what bills I pay now, money's pretty tight...and I'm slightly worried that I may not be able to get rent together, let alone bills...it doesn't help that my parents are also budgeting like hell and I had to give them some money to settle a big overdraft.

So, I'm doing some commissioning to once again fill the nest-egg, and make sure that we also have some savings for any unexpected surprises; gotta be prepared, after all.

A quick re-rundown on my current commission prices:

$20 for lineart or colored wallpaper
$25 for a pencil or colored pencil-shaded character picture
$30 for digital cel-shaded
$35 for lineless digital painting
$5 extra for any more than two characters in the picture

Prices and picture nature are subject to discussion. =) Please note that I'll work as fast as I can on each picture; I'll do them either in the order I receive them or in order from most to least difficult, and I'll take five at a time for each location I post art. A'ight you guys, update time. x3 Thought I'd announce this here 'cause this is where most of the people that have reached me are.

First of all (and I know this is belated, so I hope nobody thinks I'm ungrateful ^.^; ), Those of you who've read my last journal and have endeavored to either commission me, donate to me, or even just pass along my message, I thank you more than I can ever show. You've really helped me and my family, and our financial crisis was set back to a fair balance again. I cried a little when I realized how many peeps were willing to help, and I hope that I can do something in return, or at least can provide some good arts and writing in the future when my time calls for it. =) I'm still always open for commissions, and though sometimes I may dawdle a little on them, I always get them done.

Speaking of which, my other little announcement. x3 Come Sunday, the 1st of November, I'm gonna start to tackle NaNoWriMo. For those of you who don't know, that's short for National Novel Writing Month. The goal is to write a 50,000 word story (or that much OF a story; I tend to write longer than that. xP) by the end of November, and I've been planning on tackling it for a while. It'll give me another noteworthy thing to add to a writing portfolio (AKA a list of Bragging Rights, heh) for a publisher at some point, if I managed to finish it.

So, for those of you with written commissions that are currently being worked on (which for now is only that of  Tapewolf ), I hope you don't mind a bit of a delay whilst I take this on. ^.^; I do intend to finish, in fact I have a tentative first chapter already done, so no worries.

Meanwhile, after this journal goes up, I'll post another written commission that I've already finished up, that of  PaladinSheppard which might or might not be canon to Aisha's adventures. XD

So, story time. Thursday morning, just after doing my morning writing and trying to get back to sleep, I get woken up again by my mother, quite close to tears, telling me it’s urgent and asking what money I have.

It turns out that we were so behind on our rent (like several hundred dollars behind) that we were in danger of getting evicted. Combining my remaining cash and what I had on my own savings (the money on my primary card, after I got paid, was going to the utterly ridiculous electricity and sanitation bills; and not even to pay them off fully, just to keep them from shutting us off), we had enough to satisfy the landlord and let him give us time to get it all done by my parents’ next social security check.

And after all that, we’re still behind, as the rest of it is going to various bills and my own checks go to groceries and such by the end of the month (I’m surprised I keep just enough to make my car payments). My brother having moved out and myself being the only working person in the household, they’ve bled me to the point of being flat broke week by week, and I feel that one more bout of misfortune would put us all out on the street at some point. It didn’t help that earlier this month I was out of work for a week and couldn’t get paid back for it.

Now…I’m not a person that normally likes to ask for help. Call it pride, stubbornness, or just unwilling to want to bother anyone…whatever you will, I like to try to make my own way out of my problems.

But it scared the hell out of me, that for a moment we practically had our feet forced out the door. So…I guess I have to swallow that fear I have and try to call out, and hope that we can hang on until we have a financial balance struck again.

Now, the good news is that I just recently got an issue I had with Paypal resolved. I have full access to it back, and I can do commissions again. And I don’t want to ask for straight donations; I wanna give something back. And exercise my art (and writing) skills in the process.

That being said…is there anyone who’d like to hire my talent in return for a bit o’ dough?

A quick run-down of picture commission prices: $10 for a sketch, $15 for lineart (Which is nice because one can color it themselves, just please credit me for the lineart if you post it anywhere :3), $20 for a colored and cell-shaded picture (extra $5 added for each extra character over two and/or a detailed background), and $35 for a lineless picture (Those are very fun, but also take a fair amount of time, so allow that for me to get it right). Simply pay me up front and give me a reference pic or description of whatever you’d like drawn, and I’ll do the best I can. =) For examples of my colored work, you can visit my page at http://risendecabre.deviantart.com/ or just peruse things here.

I do writing commissions, also! Price is 10 cents a word, or $10 for each page over 2, if a short story ends up going that long. x3 In this instance I may ask for a little up front and then the rest to match the end price after it’s read and approved of.

My only demand is patience. I always get my commissions done, but sometimes they may get stalled; in any case, I do send you a sketch via email before I color it to make sure it’s to your liking. My second only demand is that I can do tasteful mature work, but no porn. Nothing short of having to pay a ransom would make me that desperate. :B

Jake: Ma and Pa Talothir are alive and well, living in a small gryphon colony in the Shadowed Depths forest. I still check on ‘em every now and again. They must be healthy, if they had a baby at their age. >.>

Chey: Yeah, I have parents. I don’t see them often either, they sent me off to school and to stay here. But they’re real nice!

Icharus: I do not get drunk, but the dragons had a happy brew called “Clouds on Earth”. I believe a Being would die if he drank one.

Have you ever killed anyone?

Aisha: Several times, and I’ll surely do it again. As a bounty hunter, and adventurer, it comes with the territory. The trick is numbing yourself to it. I’m still a little troubled by myself at times.

Rynkura: As a Healer, I do not like to recall ever killing someone. But, in my Paladin days, I did have to vanquish a demon or two.

Jake: I like to say that the guards rely on intimidation to keep people away, but… *holds up his spear* If I have to kill to defend, I will. But, just for the record, I haven’t yet.

Chey: I never killed, but, I did hurt people a lot in fights. I don’t want to do that again, really. That’s why I’m an apprentice healer. My clan doesn’t feed on pain, fear, and all that.

Icharus: Dragons kill to survive…as animals do, as Beings do. In a fight, yes. But there is a code of honor. Never kill a sentient out of cold blood.

What kind of music do you like?

Aisha: Anything, really, but most recently liked is gothic rock. Rap and extremely loud and stupid stuff though, not much…I have more hated specific songs than kinds of music.

Rynkura: Instrumental and classical…a bit of jazz will soothe just as well.

What do you do to relax?

Aisha: Eh…I have a few methods. I read, or I nap, when I’m at the monastery…when I’m traveling, I have a drink, eat, or if I can find a secluded body of water, I go swimming.

Jake: Heh, I thought cats hated water.

Aisha: Jaguars don’t. <.<

Rynkura: And neither do tigers. *Grin* To that end, to relax, I sometimes take a nice, long bath…otherwise I will spend a long time in the library reading, enchanting, or exercising.

Jake: Training exercises do it for me. Otherwise on my time off I’ll sleep it off.

Chey: I’ll listen to music and just sit around. Or I’ll see if anyone wants to play video games.

Icharus: I simply fly. The freedom of the sky is everything.

Do you constantly get hurt?

Aisha: Adventuring can give you a few scrapes, cuts, bruises, scars, even curses, and pretty often…heh, but nothing that hasn’t fixed itself or been fixed later. Pain just becomes part of the job.

Rynkura: I am a Healer…I fix pain. And…hm, to be honest, I cannot think of the last time I have ever injured myself badly enough to count.

Jake: Eh, I’ll get scrapes in fights. Nothing too big.

Aisha: Aren’t you a tough guy, Mr. cried-like-a-baby-when-his-wrist-started-bleeding. <.<

Jake: Hey, I could’ve died. >.>

Chey: *snicker* I don’t get hurt much, no.

What’s your favorite season?

Aisha: Summer. It’s warm, you can swim more, and everything’s a bit livelier.

Rynkura: All of the seasons have their good qualities, but a nice, bracing winter snowfall always transforms the land. Autumn, with all of its many colors boasted by the leaves, is a close second.

Jake: …I’m with Aish. Summer. That’s when vacation starts. :3

Chey: Spring! Everything going green, and the flowers blooming, and just…everything’s so pretty.

Icharus: Spring and summer…the warm months.

Aisha: Absolutely not. And if anyone –tries-, I’ll hunt them back down and slice their balls off. Hey, if they’re going to use their reproductive rights to abuse, they might as well not have them at all.

Rynkura: As crude as Aisha is in describing the process, I too am in full hatred of such people and would not hesitate to hurt them if they tried. Not that they could try, I being an angel and a master swordswoman.

Jake: Nope, and same here.

Well, since I noticed that the tab for commission information on userpages isn't functional as of yet, I decided to post my info here in a journal, for people's interest. :B

I'm pretty much always open for commissions, unless I say so, and I'll work on up to five at a time so I'm not overworked, though that hasn't happened yet. x3

What I Can/Will Draw:

Pretty much anything. Along with anthro and wild animal characters of many sorts, I can also do wallpaper designs.

I can even do comics, though prices for that may vary and can be discussed as well.

What I Can't/Won't Draw:

I can't draw humanoids...sorry, I haven't attempted human faces enough, and quite honestly they're just not my thing. ^^;

Also, sorry, no porn. As some of you have seen in my gallery, I have no problem with nudity so long as it's tasteful and for dramatic purposes. But I have a good reputation and try to stay within the PG-13 to M area, so no explicit material. Don't even ask.

That would include vore and other fetish art.

I do know that the definitions of decency can vary between people however, so that can be discussed.

Some Extra Things:

1. I draw with pencil and paper, sometimes I'll even ink that before I color it; Photoshop is used to color and shade all my pictures.

2. Even though I said up there that I can be a procrastinator, I still get my work done, and any person I've done requests for may vouch for that (for any that haven't gotten requests from me, it would be for things that have come up IRL or things they've done to get me out of contact or lose the references).

Barring that, I don't mind deadlines, as they can help me with that procrastination. The fastest I can get drawings done, even fully colored, is in a day. However, any rush jobs will cost a little extra. Please let me know of any deadlines you have before the deal is made.

3. That's another thing. If anything's going to happen that might effect the transaction that you know of, please let me know what so the plan can be altered accordingly. For example, if you give me a deadline of next week, and it's been shortened to the very next day and you let me know on short notice, I might have to charge extra for the drastically changed time. That also goes for changing any details at the last minute. Give me all of the details you want for the picture firsthand please. Clothing, background, appearance (maybe include a reference picture or just a detailed description), and all that. This ensures that I can do the best job possible. :)

3. Commissions will be given online; watermarked previews will be available for the person's approval of the picture's progress before completion. I'd appreciate there being a down payment before I give the picture; a little before, and the rest after; either that or payment up front. I don't appreciate swindling. :3
