Trying to do one of these a week.
Posted a month agoFigure an update is in order.
Right now I'm struggling a bit with life. Nothing new. Nothing changed. The next part I need to work on is called Maxillians Problems, and it covers a bit more intrigue. The problem is I kinda suck at writing mysteries, so I might slip around. I might enlist a co-writer for it, but the one after that is called Mercenaries of the Turtle isles, and is a bit of a coming out/discovery story.
The saga of food (part 6) is a bit of an exploration of her discovering some different kinds of foods as they sail to Tor Elastor. Both part 6 and 7 are light fare and likely, with part 10, are the least serious of the parts.
I also have a bit of an X-rated thing I'm working on, but the editing and clean up on it are rough.
Look for something from me later this week!

A small update, while I'm sick
Posted 2 months agoI've been working on the 3rd part of the background stuff for Thess, and the story got interesting and I got creative. Both things are good. Not sure where her future is going (I may have to have a sit down talk with one or two of the other players, one of these days soon), but in the current game she's not doing too well emotionally. I'm not doing well emotionally, IRL.
Since my birthday, I just have felt more and more... despondent. That's a good word. Some of it has to do with where I stand with a certain relationship in my life. Some of it has to do with the lack of joy at my day job. I find work through my work, do my job, and well, but then all I want to do is talk with three or four people online who remind me of my old gaming group. It's like, suddenly, the people I knew and spent time with are around again - even though they are different people. It's... oddly intoxicating, but sad, because I miss the people I had in my life before.
As I re-enter furry, and re-enter TTRPG space and playing other characters, I'm starting to feel more engaged in ways I haven't in a while. Still despondent, because while I'm engaged, I'm still missing things.
This coming weekend is a work weekend for me. I need to finish chapter 3: Meeting Mebiorhel, and I -may- have a lengthy mature audiences only surprise for anyone who wants to read some non-canon smut about an old character of mine - Shotari Civilan.
For now, I need to head to bed. Good night everyone!

Some life updates and... back?
Posted 3 months agoHey everyone. I haven't really posted here in forever (11 years?) beyond a story or two recently. Life's been.. interesting. Rough. I'm no longer in California - the state's cost of living won, unfortunately. I am however, largely looking at drawing again, and doing more here.
First up, I'm in a Wednesday night TTRPG streamed by fiaura where I play Thessarou, Human of Lustria (really, she's spent more time with Elves then humans, and probably should be saying she's an elf of Lustria, but......). There's a series of short bits I'm working on for her, starting with Awakenings, There's about ten of them I have ideas for, and all of them feature some key elements in her history to flesh out how she went from being a stone cold pawn of the great plan to the rebellious bard she is today. And how she decided she was female, not a lizardfolk (lizardman in warhammer fantasy, but she finds the term distasteful), and why she has a obsession with flat bread. I hope they're halfway decent bits, and I hope folks enjoy them.
Secondly, I'm dipping my painted claws back into drawing again. Very much still a pen and paper artist, but I haven't regularly done any work for several years. Almost... 11? 10? Something like that. The last complete thing I did was a bit of work for someone as a template to work from about 10 years ago.
I don't do commissions, I'm not that good, and no, I do not need artwork from others. If I need artwork, and your style fits what I want, I'll reach out to you, or if you reach out to me and talk, and your style fits, we might have something to talk about.
Lastly, I'm still a fox. Been one since 1989 or so, no reason to change now that I'm getting old.

MWO and still headed back to school
Posted 11 years agoFor those who don't know, I play MWO and have been trying to assemble a team. My user name is Greytiger.

I'm also almost exactly two months till school starts - if you can, please visit gofund.me/evp9y4 or signal boost it.
I'm looking for winter employment, but as of yet nothing has bit. Every penny helps, as does a signal boost or three!
Thank you all of you!

Updates, a request for help, and going back to school
Posted 11 years agoDamn... it seems like an eternity since I even logged in. Life got away from me, and probably because I don't generate artwork as much as I used to (hardly at all, these days), I hadn't logged in.
So, what's new. Well, I'm unemployed. But... unemployed isn't always a bad thing.
To wit: Heading back to school. Figured it was time. Most folks probably won't care about little ol me, but please, take a look at my gofundme and help me make it to the school year:
http://www.gofundme.com/evp9y4
I hate asking for aid, but... things are rough, and I need all the help I can get. Come January, things will settle down and be much smoother.
Please help? O.O
Thank you!

New artwork
Posted 13 years agoFor folks who are interested in me, I'm (once again) producing artwork. I'm woefully out of practice, and frankly, I think I've gone a bit insane (as I have this solid desire to start all journal entries with 'Dear Princess Celestia'), however, if you want more artwork from me, please, point yourselves as SophiannaKatan - that's my active user name here on FA, or at Akalalis on deviant art (it was in active, but guess what? I'm -back-).
Fair warning, while there will be -some- furry artwork, there will be more My Little Pony artwork, of a non-adult variety, in the short term then anything else, since I owe the new show my current inspiration, and bringing hope back to me in so far as my artwork and creative endeavors.
See you all later!

Auctions
Posted 15 years agoIn order to better fund my medical expenses, I'm going to be auctioning off a load of artwork - prints and originals - purchased or drawn by me in the last 20 years. I have some old art in there, some stuff that can't be gotten any more. Most of my stuff is originals, some of what I have from others is high quality prints, though I do have a substantial amount of originals as well.
It's going to be a pretty extensive purging, as I run though my collection, and decide keep or sell.
The real question becomes how to sell them - some of this stuff is pretty hard to come by in print form, and I really have no idea how to appraise any of it. How do you appraise 'pop' culture artwork?
So, that being said, I think I'll look at a combination of selling places - furbuy and furbid, as well as the wider audience for Ebay (perhaps), and for some here. I know most people haven't been reading my journals, so I'm hoping some folks might read this. If you're a friend of mind - please point some folks my way for the auctions - I have a ton of stuff, and I need to clear out some clutter!

Developments
Posted 15 years ago 9 months ago I stated that things would change. Has it really been nine months? Damn. And here I thought it had been closer to 6 or 8 since I decided to...
I should explain. March of last year I transferred into a new store, took a new position, ect. Some of it was for my comfort, some of it was ambition (I get that sometimes!). On the heels of that I decided to address some of my personal issues about not being quite comfortable in my own skin. I had a pretty good idea what the problem was years and years ago, but basically had no spine and was terrified to do anything about it. I figured I could cope and soldier on.
Nonesense. I've been miserable. Sometimes in small ways, sometimes in larger ones. So I opted to go and talk with someone about it. I'm clear cut enough of a case that when I talked with the therapist for about half an hour, telling her of stuff in my life, she handed me the paperwork, took me over and introduced me to the GP, and said, " You've certainly got some level of Gender Dysphoria'.
To those who don't know what that means: Basically, it means that my brain is wired female, and my body was born male. Transsexual, Transgender... I can think of several other terms for it, but it's medical, and I opted after a long time, to stop being miserable, and do something.
So, I'm transitioning. Eight months ago I started HRT. It's getting harder to hide the changes to my body, so I'm sort of out these days.
It's also why the fursona Akalalis might not be around much these days - the character represents who I was, not who I'm becoming. It all sounds dramatic, but it's the truth. Changes like this change who you are.
That being said, if anyone still wants to follow me, please point your browsers to http://www.furaffinity.net/user/sophiannakatan/
I may not do much art - this is taking up a lot of energy and focus for me - but there will be some.
Also, I'm trying to get my self together enough to go in for SRS sometime in the next year - My goal is to have it done by October, but if not then to have a date set for next year. To that end, I'm putting together a website to try and sell all of my skills - my art, baking, tech... what have you, in order to try and raise money. I'll even take donations, not that I expect much in the department.
Thank you all for reading.

As with all things....
Posted 15 years agoAs with all things, as live advances, so do changes come about. There will be some radical changes in my life in the next year - some of them pretty major. The first is pretty clear to me - with said changes in my life, the fursona of Akal Ashata Alis will likely cease to be. I will still play the character online, but likely will adopt a new nom-de-plume more indicative of myself.
Arts will/are back up!
Posted 16 years agoFor those in the know or don't know, KalansPhantom gifted me this holiday season with a new scanner, so I can -finally- start uploading new art. I have several peices in various stages of completion that I'll be putting up. Hope to get back on the art bandwagon soonish!
Got a couple of newer pieces in the works too.

A plea for help, on behalf of another
Posted 16 years agoWicked Sarah, who I've known peripherally for several years now, is in pretty dire need right at this moment. Her feline, Todd, is in pretty bad shape, and she doesn't have a whole lot of options.
The feline isn't old, just has one pretty nasty health issue, that unfortunately costs to fix. They don't have alot of funds, so I'm posting this everywhere I can think of to try and drum up help.
I can offer up my skills as an artist, such as I am, in trade for those who need or want something in trade.
I can do most things (though, not CGI or 3d stuff), including, if folks really want, erotic readings, artwork/porn, stories, or just small stuff.
Please, help her out. She's one of us, and only a bit from each of us will go a long ways to helping.
Her information is here:

This has been an interesting convention. Some new artwork finished.
Will post more - later. Net if free right now.

Rainfurrest HO!
Posted 16 years agoFor the first time in over a year, I'm honestly attending a convention.
I didn't really attend FC this last year for any more then about eight hours, so I don't entirely count that.
no, this will also be my first vacation in forever and a day.
So, vacation + con = win!
I am, effectively, single at this point. Not going into details - those who want to know drop me a line privately - but I dunno if I want anyone that close in my life right now.

Having to move, sucks
Posted 16 years agoFor those who don't know, it looks like I may have to move sometime in the next two months. Fortunately I'm getting a head start, rather then the 'You have to find a roof in 30 days' that I got stuck with the last move I had to make.
The flip side? I need to find a place. My gal doesn't want me to move too far away, and yet, I may not have a choice, because alot of the offerings in this area are just far enough into the bad side of town to make me somewhat uneasy - unless they are a very good deal, it's probably not worth the extra stress.

Odd week...and current projects!
Posted 16 years agoOkay... some new stuff. I'm going to try and keep something of a more project oriented sort of thing here.
So, a list of projects I'm working on - roughly.
A new unicorn/Mirror demon image (Jace likes unis, and honestly, Jace's works been a bit of an inspiration for some of my own works, so...) - Still roughing in the Anatomy and composition.
Yew, in the spot light - Yew is a dragon-like construct, anthro, non winged in nature. Rough pose work is done - now, the face needs to be finished!
Cinnimon's Pose - Did an art trade with Cinnimon @ a BAF furmeet. The rough is done, and most of the facial stuff is done - I plan on getting most of this done tomorrow.
Male Vulpine's Modest pose - Mostly done! Just need to somehow fix the proportions on the head, ink, and color.
Springing in to action - I still dunno what type of fur this is - it has a bushy tail, but could be a cat or something. Rough anatomy done, details and species determination next!
Pink Poodle Project - The fullness of the project may well take me quite a while to do. The end result, in rough form, has been posted, but the pages - the comic - leading up to it has not even been roughed. I dunno even how many pages it will be, or even if I'm up to the task of trying to do another comic. The last one never was fully finished. Some day, I'll find it, and post it.
.... And for the moment, that's it. I mean, I have a ton of stuff I would -love- to work on - The running fur and Ehir En Koob (may be spelled wrong) to name two, as well as more mirror demon stuff, and maybe working towards a new way of doing color work.
See you in a week!

Whoah... suddenly many favs
Posted 17 years agoWith the submission of the pink poodle, apparently I've been found by a bunch of folks - welcome, one and all. I need to do more work. I'll probably be submitting bunches of sketches and the like in the next few weeks, plus a more closely finished pink poodle. I'm not happy with the face - really. I need to work more on my faces. That angle is hard for me, but I am determined to make it look right!
FC 2k9
Posted 17 years agoWell... I don't have much of a con report this year - basically, I came for a night, kicked back and hung out with some great folks in the creator's lounge - most of whom the names elude me - Mitch was there, Redwulf was there, Weasle I ran into, but didn't hang out with much, unfortunately. And now, I'm beat. I don't have the stamina I used to anymore, either that, or this last week was really hard on me to the point where I can't stay awake.
Probably some combination there of. My plan for this next year - attend more conventions. Dunno which ones - AC is at the wrong time of the year this year, so if folks have any other suggestions, let me know!

Christmas 2008
Posted 17 years agoHey everyone! Life's been busy the last few months. I had plans to do a Christmas image for everyone, but that sort of fell through when I found I'd be working six days. Between that, and needing to get stuff for prezzies, artwork took a back seat. I'll have Tuesday off, so maybe I'll be able to take some time and work on artwork then.
Regardless, I wanted to wish everyone here and Merry Christmas, with you and yours, a happy new year, and many bright futures for all here.
Or failing that, a half way decent loot haul from the holidays. Or failing that, a peaceful few days, free of worry and strife.
My best to all of you, those I've met, and those I have not, whom only know me online,
Akal Ashata Alis

ALis update, October 2008
Posted 17 years agoWell, life throws you curve balls - that's all I can really say. Right now, I'm working as a professional dog groomer, apparently well liked by customers (enough that I have repeat biz). I'm seeing someone who I care a great deal about, most of my lizards are happy (or at the least, surviving), and work seems to be fairly mellow, for the time being.
All in all, life is good. I just wish I could find the inspiration to work on artwork. One of these days, when I'm not running around crazy like or working on projects around here, maybe.

Light, at the end of the f'ng tunnel.
Posted 17 years agoFinally. After months of searching, after visiting a lot of places and looking into a lot of options - I found a place. Huge place, 600/month, not far from where I work, basically separate from the house it's in, with very cool people who think lizards are cool - PG&E included, Internet included. Cable - included.
Now, if I can get a handle on my debt problems, some of which are in hand, some of which are not - life will be sparkling clean.
Oh, yes, and Grrr? I'll be working in the grooming Salon, where yer wife used to work, as a groomer sometime late this year. I -may- have to IM/E-mail her to get some advice and the like. I know she and I are not on the best of terms ATM (and likely not to be so on the short term), but I do value her knowledge in this regard.
I'm literally so hyped about this place I can't wait to move. Not even when I was moving to the Hayward house was I this hyped. Seriously. I mean, I'm shaking right now - hands visibly shaking - I'm so hyped.
I need a chill pill.

Alis Update
Posted 18 years agoFC was a blast, stories of lizards aside.
On to life. Since FC, there has been a slow push to transfer me to, yet again, another department in the store. This time, the promise is for more hours - in fact, full time status - in trade? A full three year commitment from me. What is it? It's a groomer. A position I previously could not take due to a conflict of interest.
To give you an idea of how -fast- this is moving? If I'm 'ready' before March, I'm in the March 3rd grooming academy. I basically -just- started as a bather last week.
Full time, plus commission, plus three years of basically guaranteed work. I'll take it. And it fulfills one of the reasons why I wanted to go back to school - the desire to work with animals more then people.
And no more freight.
And I found my copy of the new Transformers movie, which I have had a deep desire to watch again this week. It's one of those rare films that, like Remo Williams, every once in a while I get a need to see.
All in all, I'm optimistic, but I need to pay down my debts. Really, really badly.

Califur........
Posted 18 years agoI like the banner for FA right now. The shocked look on the poor coon reminds me how my general shocked look I sometimes get when Redwulf hugs me out of the blue. Of course, I sort of over did the hugging a couple years back when we where in Chicago for MFF. Well, sort of for MFF. She wanted to see the windy city. I was born there, so while it was neat for me to revisit after all those years (and I swear that the train stop we where at I've been in before! The one in the town!), I opted for more MFF.
Now, that being said, I'm looking at conventions again. Pretty much restricted to ones on this coast for the time being, until/unless I get my promotion and additional training at work. If I do, then I'll have 40 hours a week, plus commission. And more work then I can shake a stick at.
That means... Califur. That's right, MDG - I'm heading down to -your- neck of the woods. Or I'd like to. I have the membership, but the plane fare will kill me, likewise the transit time on Amtrack. So, I'm looking for options. I like the idea of taking a train down that way - but I doubt I'd want to sit on the train for hours - and it's almost as costly as the plane (roughly 110 bucks, or there abouts - plane coats roughly 160 if I fly from San Jose, and it's much faster).
Any thoughts? And also, anyone out there I can get some crash space from?

Back, from FC
Posted 18 years agoBack from FC! Going to lay this out, then lay myself out. :D
This is mostly a summery:
Great things:
1) Seamless meet up with Mitch!
2) Arting with Mitch, Doc, Caly and someone else whom I forget.
3) Jace's Pencil work for sale in a tub on his table.
4) Blotch Prints
5) 5 Hour Energy drinks!
6) Running into Kensen and Kashra!
Good things:
1) Crator's lounge
2) Dealer's Den
3) The realization that I need conventions for some reason - something about them helps me somehow unwind.
Sucky things:
1) Can't find my Airbrush or compressor - at least, not until just right now, while typing, and looking up on the shelf behind my computer desk - there's the compressor.
2) No Redwulf. This is a big suck - given I see her once or twice a year, tops, you wouldn't think I'd miss her all that greatly, but without her, it was like the convention wasn't complete, like something necessary was missing, and the entire convention was a lot less bright for the lack of. I didn't entirely see that until Mitch starting asking me what she's been up to and how she's been doing - as it's been a tough few months, I almost broke down in tears. That's how much I miss(ed) her. Red, much hugs, and many, many I miss yous. Also, I need to post a FAQ somewhere telling -everyone- that we're not dating or involved. It seems that everyone seems to think that -still-. (I forget who it was, but someone didn't believe me when I said that we was friends and not romantically attached - even Mitch teased me a bit about that).
3) Not enough time with Kensen, Kashra, or Casidhe. Or anyone else, really.
4) Feeling very out of place - I suspect this has to do with my reduced tolerance to noisy rooms.
5) Denny's food. Always have to eat there cause it's open 24 hours, but the food needs work.
6) Pizza Huts. All of them in that area. I love Stuffed Crust pizza, but Papa John's pizzas with extra sauce are a bit better.
7) End of Con.
To do Lists!
1) Work on Artwork. It was like a big ass blockage left me this weekend, and I want to draw more.
2) Plan to go to other cons.
3) TBA!
That's about it for now. :)
