Another bit of my "late" childhood passes
Posted 7 years agoIt is with major sadness that I announce the passing of Bob Dorough. Who's Bob Dorough, you ask? Bob was a bebop and jazz artist, pianist, composer, and performer. He worked alongside Miles Davis and Blossom Dearie creating a number of hit tunes. But primarily he's known for his work with the TV series Schoolhouse Rock, the Saturday morning "educational" series that taught basic principles in math, grammar, science, America, money and the earth. His songs influenced and educated several generations, as the show aired from the 70's through the 90's. You can enjoy the first song he wrote and performed for the series pilot below, "Three is a Magic Number." He was 94.
An Astute Observation

How Australian news sees the US
Posted 8 years agoWhat we already knew, Barrie, that the President of the United States has a particular skill set; that he's identified an illness in Western democracies, but he has no cure for it and seems intent on exploiting it.
And we've also learned that he has no desire and no capacity to lead the world.
The G20 became the G19 as it ended. On the Paris climate accord, the US was left isolated and friendless. But given that was always going to happen, a deft president would have found an issue around which he could rally most of the leaders.
And he had the perfect one - North Korea's missile tests. So where was the G20 statement condemning North Korea which would have put pressure on China and Russia? Other leaders expected it. They were prepared to back it, but it never came.
There's a tendency among some hopeful souls to confuse the speeches written for Trump with the thoughts of the man himself - he did make some interesting, scripted observations in Poland about defending the values of the West. And he's in a unique position. He's the one man who has the power to do something about it.
But it's the unscripted Trump that's real; a man who barks out bile in 140 characters, who wastes his precious days as president at war with the West's institutions like the judiciary, independent government agencies and the free press.
He was an uneasy, lonely, awkward figure at this gathering and you got the strong sense that some of the leaders are trying to find the best way to work around him.
Donald Trump is a man who craves power because it burnishes his celebrity. To be constantly talking and talked about is all that really matters and there is no value placed on the meaning of the words. So what's said one day can be discarded the next.
So, what did we learn? We learned that Donald Trump has pressed fast forward on the decline of the United States as a global leader. He managed to isolate his nation, to confuse and alienate his allies and to diminish America. He will cede that power to China and Russia - two authoritarian states that will forge a very different set of rules for the 21st century.
Some will cheer the decline of America. But I think we'll miss it when it's gone. And that's the biggest threat to the values of the West which he claims to hold so dear.

Missing my first AnthrOhio since it was formed...
Posted 8 years agoI am quite put out as I lay here recovering from some nasty business. About 3 month ago, I suffered osteomyelitus (bone infection) in the second toe of my right foot. The cure involved removing some of the bone in my toe, several days in the hospital, and over 4 weeks of IV antibiotics using a PICC line which let me administer the antibiotics at home. I also had a dressing on the foot that had to be changed twice a day. I'm happy to say that healed nicely.
Then the same affliction affected the second toe in my left foot. We weren't as lucky with that one. I've ended up losing the entire toe. Just got back home Friday, 5/26, with my left foot now bandaged and on oral antibiotics. Having just lost the toe, walking is a problem and I need to keep it elevated. Which means no AnthrOhio convention for me this year. I'm bummed about that, as the theme was one of my favorites: Retro Future Furries (furries of the future as seen from the 1950's and '60's.)
*sighs* I guess there is always next year, but drat!

Be Trix a dark and a sad place.
Posted 8 years agoI'm sure you've heard it: "Silly rabbit. Trix are for kids!" It's one of those advertising slogans that defy the obscurity of time, just as well known today as it was 60 years ago. While the slogan's life is virtually unlimited, the life of the person that wrote the slogan is not. That would be Joe Harris, who recently passed away in Stamford, Conn., at the age of 89.
Animated commercials were not his only claim to fame. He, along with several others, formed a group called Total Television, producing a number of animated series that appeared on Saturday mornings including "Go Go Gophers," "Tennessee Tuxedo and his Tales," "King Leonardo and his Shorts," and "The Beagles." (One guess what that show was about!)
But Joe is most noted for one cartoon show about a humble and loveable shoe-shining mutt who became the scourge of villains everywhere, Underdog! In all, Joe produced 124 Underdog episodes acting as writer, artist, composer, or whatever else was needed at the time. He even composed the theme song.
He will be missed, but his legacy shall live on.

Tax Reform for the Little Person....Right
Posted 8 years agoApparently, someone somewhere found a Donald Trump tax return for 2005. IT shows he paid about $38 million on a income of $150 million, or about 25.3%. That's not a bad ratio, actually, until you look a little closer and discover that only $5.3 million were regular taxes. The rest was due to something called the Alternative Minimum Tax.
Now the AMT was created in 1969 (under Republican President Richard Nixon) to force 155 wealthy taxpayers from using deductions and credits to avoid paying any federal income taxes. It was a good idea at the time. But like most things from Washington, it was never updated to today's financial situations. So its terms are impacting those who only make $100,000 year and more today.
Now Trump's tax reform plan calls for eliminating the AMT. For those who are paying the AMT, that sounds great. Sure you'll get a couple hundred or a couple thousand dollars back. But people like Trump will get millions! $32.7 million back in the case of his 2005 return. Let me show you this on a graph:
Each asterisk represent $1000 returned:
Avg. America: ***
Trump's Gain:

And it begins...don your gas masks and water purifiers
Posted 8 years agoThe World Health Organization reports that 25%, one-in-four, of the world's kids die because of pollution. POLLUTION! Toxic wastes spewed into the air and water supplies by greedy companies that won't spend the money to install the necessary equipment to prevent that from happening. Well, folks, you can now thank President Trump for bringing the same problems to the US by rescinding many of the EPA regulations designed to prevent just that sort of thing. In the mean time, I'll be selling Pre-Trump Air-in-a-Can so we don't forget what clean air actually is.

Posted 8 years agoHistory has deemed James Buchanan, the 15th president of the United States, the worst U.S. president beating out even Richard Nixon. Right now, President Trump is on his way to beating that claim within his first three months in office. President Buchanan sends his regards and thanks.
I liked Flynn in Tron...not so much in government.
Posted 8 years agoSo Michael Flynn has resigned as national security advisor because he "inadvertently...omitted information" about his meetings with the Russian ambassador before Trump took office or he was appointed an official role in Trump's administration. Our illustrious cigar-chomping mephit proclaimed:
So Flynn was less than honest with Pence about his contacts with the Russian ambassador - he didn't break any laws but trust is important to President Trump so he dismissed Flynn.
Oh, I have no doubt Trump pushed the resignation, despite the claim to the contrary. People like Flynn don't give up power easily once they get it. But Cigarskunk outright LIED when he said no laws were broken. And I will call him a liar to his face if he hadn't banned me from posting because I was showing his "followers" (do they drink Kool-Aid?) how wrong and stupid almost everyone of his posts are.
The truth is we don't know if any laws were broken which is why the Democrats and many Republicans (now classified as RINOs according to CS) are calling for an investigation. There is one major law involved here: the Logan Act which bars private citizens from interfering with diplomatic disputes with other countries. It's classified as a treasonable offense with a maximum penalty of death. Flynn had no official capacity to talk with the Russian ambassador concerning anything related to US actions. Yet now we find he may have discussed easing sanctions the US has placed against Russia once Trump was sworn in. He claims no...but others near the conversation say otherwise. Who's right? I don't know. But to make an outright proclamation of Flynn's innocence is reckless and just as much a lie as "omitting information."

The Answer is Blowing in the Wind
Posted 8 years agoA wind farm of 104 wind turbines in North Carolina just went live supplying 670 megawatt-hours, enough to power 61,000 private homes. One major customer is Amazon who's buying power from the farm to run its data centers. This is in spite of the state's lawmakers asking President Trump to nix the project. Now understand this...this project just went live. Trump took office on Jan 20. That's less than 1 month ago from today. In other words, the state lawmakers demanded Trump scrap a $400 million dollar project that benefits everyone in the state of North Carolina less than a month from its start of production. Is it any surprise the lawmakers are Republican?
What reason did they give to kill this project that helps their state? They claim it's a national security threat! The farm is built near the Navy's long-distance surveillance radar installation in Chesapeake, Va., and these politicians, who know nothing about electricity or radar or anything else other than the wind farm is a "clean energy project" say it will interfere with the radar installation. So what does the Navy say? They say the wind farm and radar station can operate without problems for either installation. In fact, Avangrid Renewables, the wind farm's builder, worked with the Navy throughout its entire design and construction, reducing the size of the project and repositioning some of the turbines if a problem was thought to possibly exist to avoid affecting the radar array.
The truth of the matter, it's a clean energy project and Republicans hate those. Why? Because clean renewable energy was a major success of the Obama administration and they can't stand that. Is it any surprise Trump's energy plan doesn't mention one thing about renewables? It pushes coal, oil, and gas, especially that gas obtained from fracking, which is now confirmed to cause earthquakes. Such thinking is turn-of-the-century thinking -- the 19th century. Even without federal subsidies, the production of electricity from clean renewable sources, particularly wind and solar, is now cheaper than that produced by coal or gas. Do you think Amazon would invest in something that's going to cost them more? I don't think so.
If I were a North Carolina resident, I'd tell these Republican lawmakers to just blow me.

Need a few good voice artists
Posted 8 years agoA good friend,
maxgoof, is doing a radioplay of one of his character's origin story, Max DeGroot. What's a radioplay, you ask? It's a voice-only story of the type heard on the radio many years ago. He wrote the story and I created the radioplay script. Right now he's looking for nine people to voice the characters in the story which takes place several hundred years ago and involves tall ships, colonialization, and pirates! It would be great if the person can do a French, Spanish, or English accent, but that's not required.
You can get all the details and a copy of the script at: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/8035207/
So if you ever wanted to try your hand at voice acting, this would make a good start!

Did Russia Aid Wikileaks in Getting DNC Emails?
Posted 8 years agoInteresting note in my current computer news digest: The Russian newspaper Kommersant states the head of the computer incidents investigation team at Kaspersky Labs in Russia, Ruslan Stoyanov, was arrested in December as part of an investigation that also targeted Sergei Mikhailov, the deputy head of the Information Security Center at the FSB, Russia's internal security service. Both are under investigation in connection with the receipt of money from a foreign organization, a treasonous act under Russian law. If anyone would know how to hack an account, it would be the head of an Internet security agency. Now Wikileaks Assange has stated he received the emails from a "private individual," and not any state sponsor. We know the Republican party has several major backers that run corporations with the finances and resources to contact and pay these two under the guise of a private individual to carry out hacking operations. Do I have any proof? No...but it's as valid a speculation as the right-wing-nutcase news organizations create.
Update 1/30/17: It's now been determined that the two mentioned above worked in the same office implicated in this past election hacking of DNC emails. The noose gets tighter...

Fake News?
Posted 8 years agoIsn't it interesting the masters of fake news, the far-right media, are now claiming anything reported by the other news agencies that doesn't fit their facts as fake news. I guess the rights been faking it for so long, they can't tell the difference between fact-based reporting and their own gossip and lies anymore.

Posted 8 years agoThe right-wing news sites are having a field day mocking Meryl Streep for the comments she made at the Golden Globes awards ceremony. Not unexpected from the Trumpites that can't add 2 + 2 because they graduated from a school system under Republican control. So what did Meryl say?
An actor’s only job is to enter the lives of people and let you feel what that feels like … there was one performance this year that stunned me. It sank its hooks in my heart. It was that moment when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country imitated a disabled reporter — someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it. This instinct to humiliate, when it’s modeled by someone in the public platform, by someone powerful, it filters down into everybody’s life, because it kind of gives permission for other people to do the same thing. Disrespect invites disrespect. Violence invites violence. And when the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.
Of course, the orange idiot had to respond to this perceived attack...

Bullshit, Mr. I'm-Too-Handsome-to-be-Wrong. I saw the video, what lead up to it, and after. It just proves you're too damn stupid to even know what a mockery is, let alone claim you weren't making one. That video was mockery at the highest level, and if I had a son or daughter who had done that, well, let's just say they wouldn't be sitting down for a while. One of these days you're going to do that to a leader of another country with nukes, and then you can kiss several American cities goodbye all the while claiming it wasn't your intent. But stupid is as stupid does.

Have we invented a warp drive?
Posted 8 years ago"Warp factor 1. Mr. Sulu."
Thus Captain James T. Kirk would send the Enterprise off on another adventure in the old Star Trek television series. (I'm ignoring the new movies...heh!) The key to traveling the vast distances in outer space was, of course, the fictional warp drive that bent space around the ship (warped it) and propelled the ship forward. The warp drive engines moved the ship without actually ejecting any mass, what is known in science as a reactionless drive.
Well, NASA just published a peer reviewed paper on the EM (for ElectroMagnetic) drive, a reactionless drive that shouldn't work...but appears that it does, much to the chagrin of many physicists. Now the peer review doesn't guarantee the EM drive actually works, but it means other scientists have looked at the experimental setup, the results, and the conclusions and found them to be reasonable within the realms of science.
One of the founding building blocks of physics as we know it is Newton's Third Law, which states "For every action there is an equal but opposite reaction." It's the standard that our current rocket technology is based on. You burn a highly volatile fuel and force it out the back of the rocket, pushing the rocket forward. The amount of push, or force, is easily calculated by the formula "Force equals mass times acceleration," or F = Ma. The amount of force created is based on how much stuff you throw out the back and at what speed you throw it.
Such is not the case with the EM drive which consists of a special-shaped resonant cavity in which microwave energy is bounced around in a specific pattern, very similar to a microwave oven. But the shape of this cavity seems to generate a thrust in one direction. This defies Newton's third law, that says in a sealed system all forces in all directions would cancel and it shouldn't create any overall force in any direction.
NASA has measured the amount of force of the drive they're testing at approximately 1.2 milliNewtons/kilowatt of energy of the microwave signal inside the cavity. Modern microwave ovens use 1.1 kilowatts (1100 watts), to give you a comparison. Now a Newton isn't much. It's defined as the amount of force needed to accelerate a 1 kg mass (about 2.2 pounds) at the rate of 1 meter/second (39.37 inches/second/second or 2.237 miles/hour/second.) Comparing this acceleration to a car, it would take about 27 seconds for the car to reach 60 mph. A milliNewton is 1/1000 of that amount. To reach that same speed will take 27,000 seconds or about 7-1/2 hours to reach 60 mph! But without any mass being ejected there's no limit to the amount of time the system can run. The engine runs only on electricity as its fuel and that can come from any source including solar cells.
Now NASA's experiments were conducted on earth. So there is some question if there were unknown factors that could generate this thrust, like rogue air currents, leaky electromagnetic radiation, or magnetic interactions. The next plan is to send an EM drive into space and test it in orbit. But, the Chinese space agency CAST (China Academy of Space Technology) announced just a few days ago that they've been testing an EM drive in space and they claim it worked the same as on earth. They also state they're incorporating an EM drive into their Tiangong 2 space laboratory and are going to try to improve its efficiency to between 0.1 to 1 Newton of force.
So have we stumbled across that staple of science fiction space travel, the warp drive? Only time will tell.

Whose Special Interests?
Posted 9 years agoSo Trump is strutting around like a peacock about saving 1100 American jobs. And it only cost the taxpayers of Indiana $7 million! Oh my, what a bargain!! Of course, the GOP will NEVER admit that Obama's administration added 178,000 jobs to the market last month. That's like 178 of those Trump deals. And it didn't cost the taxpayer one penny!
Now, who did this deal benefit? The 1,100 workers whose jobs won't be moving to Mexico? Hardly. All it's done is to turn the American worker into a tool for corporations to demand tax cuts and other incentives. There is a name for that: corporate blackmail.
And, as it turns out, Trump is the real winner here because he owns stock on Carrier's parent company, United Technologies. If production moves to Mexico, he doesn't see any return on that money. Last year, he got between $2500 and $5000 in interest from UT. Now that may not seem like much for someone like Trump...but we're talking INTEREST, not dividends.
Anyone remember Goldman Sachs, the company that almost destroyed the US economy in 2008? Guess who Trump just appointed as his Secretary of the Treasury: Steven Mnuchin, a Goldman Sachs former executive and investor. Right...what was this about draining the swamp of special interests?
Everyone was so worried Hillary Clinton was in Wall Street's back pocket. Trump has handed the US government to Wall Street on a golden platter. One of these days the idiots who voted for Trump are going to realize they've been had, conned to the max by the biggest con man in the world. We can expect a Marie Antoinette moment anytime thereafter.

Even Castro Knows the Score
Posted 9 years agoJuanita Castro, that is, sister to Fidel Castro who recently passed away in Cuba. When Fidel first started his revolution, she worked alongside him. However,it wasn't long before she realized the way her brother was taking the fight was not something she could tolerate and began working against him and his Communist regime before escaping to Mexico and then Miami where she's operated a pharmacy since the '60's. For 52 years she's lived in isolation in Florida, never speaking to her family or friends left behind in Cuba, and in particular her brother. However, she did pay him a compliment when asked about the current U.S. elections. Comparing Donald Trump and her brother, she said, "the only difference is that [Trump] may have millions, but the other had a brain."
I'm protesting against this company! Give me another latte'
Posted 9 years agoIt seems Trump supporters are protesting against Starbuck (whose CEO supported Clinton) by (Ready for this?) buying Starbuck coffee! Now we already new Trump supporters were an illogical group. But this raises the bar to a new extreme: protesting a company by buying more of their product. We need more protests! Right....
Chinese set record straight on climate change
Posted 9 years agoBack on Nov 6, just before the presidential election, Donald Trump tweeted, "The concept of global warming was created by and for the Chinese in order to make U.S. manufacturing non-competitive."
Well, the Chinese have now responded and basically told him he's full of crap. (Of course, those with any reasonable intelligence already knew this.) China’s Vice Foreign Minister Liu Zhenmin told reporters, “If you look at the history of climate change negotiations, actually it was initiated by the IPCC (Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change) with the support of the Republicans during the Reagan and senior Bush administration during the late 1980s.” So not only was it not started by the Chinese, but was in fact began under a Republican administration.
From the IPCC web page: "The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) is the leading international body for the assessment of climate change. It was established by the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the World Meteorological Organization (WMO) in 1988 to provide the world with a clear scientific view on the current state of knowledge in climate change and its potential environmental and socio-economic impacts."
There are currently 195 countries in the IPCC, with the U.S. being one of the originals, which means Reagan, Bush, or both supported the initiative.

Like this was unexpected -- NOT!
Posted 9 years agoWe are less than a week out of the election that made a reality TV show host the leader of the world's greatest power. His election, according to those who supported him, was because he didn't represent the current establishment. That he was going to get things done, and bring the country back from the brink (though they never said the brink of what.) With only six days gone, let's see how well the new president-elect is doing:
He was going to stop the illegal flow of immigrants from Mexico by building this huge wall along the border. Of course, what he didn't tell people is that we already have a wall in some areas which has stopped nothing. They just tunnel under it, mostly to bring in drugs. Now the wall is going to be a fence in some areas...ummm, we already have a fence along most of the border. Right...
He was going to do mass deportations of illegal aliens, over 11 million of them. Well, that figure soon dropped to 3 million, and now "mass deportations" are most likely on hold. He might get a couple hundred thousand out of the country. Oh, wait...we do that now! Right...
Trump is going to put tax and tariffs on imported goods to protect American workers. Funny how there hasn't been any mention of those since he was elected. As most of the stuff that bears his name is made overseas, he'd be taxing his own products. Right...
Trump stated he was going to "drain the swamp" of special interests in Washington. Yet he's staffing his administration with nothing but people who have special interests. Right....
And finally, his claim to appoint a special prosecutor to investigate Hillary Clinton's email problem is not going to happen. He doesn't "want to hurt them." Of course, if he appoints one for Clinton, he also needs to appoint one for Bush and Cheney, who were using a private email server long before Clinton's was even set up. Right...
In fact, about the only thing left of Trump's campaign promises are the tax cuts that will give the average American about 1% to 1.2% back on their taxes. On the other hand, he and his fellow 2% will get somewhere between 10% to 13% back. And that's NOT counting things like the removal of estate taxes. We're talking real monetary dynasties of the type not seen since Rockefeller or Carnegie...and we know how devastating those were to the average American. Right...
Trump played the American voters for the idiots they are, and now every supporter who chanted, "Lock her up!" looks like an even bigger idiot. Right...

America the Great.. R.I.P.
Posted 9 years agoWhile the news sources haven't called it, I acknowledge that Donald Trump will be the next president of the United States, Heaven help us all. I just hope there will still be something left of this country before the end of his first term. Hey, if I'm wrong, I'm wrong, and I'll be the first to admit it. He might actually make a good president. But frankly, I think all this buffoon of a candidate proved tonight is that Americans are even dumber than I thought they were. I knew the majority of Ohioans were idiots. I live here and have to deal with it on a daily basis...but I was hoping there was some intelligence in the rest of the country. I guess not.
Another great passes...
Posted 9 years agoThis year just keeps taking and taking. I'm saddened to announce the death of Jean-Jacques Perrey, a French music composer. At this point, you're probably asking, "Who?" Well, I can guarantee you've heard his music. He, along with his American partner Gershon Kingsley, lead the march into electronic music. Together, they wrote a little ditty called "Baroque Hoedown." You might know it better as the background music for Disney's Main Street Electrical Parade.
My first experience with this dynamic duo was on an album they released in the mid '60's called "The In Sound from Way Out!" This was pre-Moog. They used literally thousands of feet of recording tape that they spliced together to form this new form of electronic music that paved the way for the development of Techno. Eventually, Gershon Kingsley re-released "The In Sound" reworked on the Moog, calling it "The Out Sound from Way In."
Perrey was one of the first European composers to work with electronic instruments. His music appeared on numerous shows including Comedy Central's "South Park" and Fox's "The Simpsons." Perrey moved to America in 1960 where his admirers included Walt Disney and Salvador Dali. It's been reported that Dali literally fell off his chair when he heard Perrey's version of "Flight of the Bumble Bee." Perrey created the song by splicing together thousands of recordings of real bees! "My life has been like a fairytale," Perrey says. "Edith Piaf was my fairy godmother, Walt Disney was the genie, and my Aladdin's cave was the Vanguard recording studios in New York."
Perrey passed away in Switzerland from a very quick and violent form of lung cancer. He was 87 years old.
Enjoy: The In Sound from Way Out!

One Last Thought Before You Vote on Tuesday
Posted 9 years agoThis is actually a reassessment of a prior journal equating the GOP as the American equivalent of those radical Muslims like ISIS and Al Qaeda they're always talking about. They are perverting Christian religions to gain power and control. They want to implement a Christian version of Sharia law of which some of the points include:
Who can / can not get married.
What adults can do in the privacy of their bedrooms.
What a woman can / can not do with her own body.
What you can read, watch, or listen to.
What decisions a family can / can not make with End of Life actions, such removal of life support when warranted.
What is the only correct and proper religion and that we must govern by it no matter who it affects or destroys, as long as it doesn't involve them. Otherwise they'll give a pass on it.
The first their proposals hurt are the poor, sick, elderly, homeless, needful, and children.
The 1st they help are those who need it the less.
One last thought: More Americans die every month due to Republican governors blocking Medicaid expansion than died in Benghazi. So it isn't just the position of President that's at stake here. We've already been threatened by the GOP that they will tie up the government even worse than they did with Obama should Clinton win. The only way to stop that is to vote as many Republicans out of office as can be managed.
Please consider carefully who you're voting for and why.

The Voter Suppression Trail
Posted 9 years agoA new Oregon Trail-like computer game was released by the New York Times. Called "The Voter Suppression Trail," its tagline reads, "Find out if your vote can survive the great, flawed adventure of American democracy."
And speaking of voter suppression, here in Ohio we just had a restraining order placed against the Trump campaign, as well as Donald Trump adviser Roger Stone, to prevent them from harassing or intimidating voters at the state's voting locations. It was felt this was necessary due to Trump's call for "election observers" to closely watch the polls for fraud intimidating voters as they enter to make their votes. Requests for similar restraining orders have been placed in Arizona, Michigan, New Jersey, Nevada, and Pennsylvania.
Voters are being encouraged to vote from home using a phone code to text their vote for Hillary Clinton. The ads claim to be paid for by the Clinton campaign and include statements like "Vote from Home" and "Avoid the Line." Of course, they're totally false and that they target mostly black and Latino voters with direct reference to Clinton can be nothing but trying to make Democratic voters waste their vote by making them think they've voted when they haven't.
Surprisingly, 39 states allow citizens to challenge the eligibility of any voter at the polls. Only 15 of those states require proof from the challenger. And the version of this law in North Carolina has been described as "insane" and "something put together in 1901." Any person can claim another person is not eligible to vote forcing that person to show up at a hearing to prove they are eligible or have their eligibility stripped. So far this year the law has been used to purge over 7.000 North Carolina residents, most of them black (who typically vote Democratic.)
