WTF Stephenie Meyer made something good? The Host

Early access Dead Space 3 demo thoughts
Posted 13 years agoIn two words: Fuck Yes!
Just finished the demo in single player [gotta wait till someone I know has the demo to test co-op] and I have to say it plays well, looks great [really great] and is still dead space.
There are some things that are a little odd, like how you can move faster when aiming a weapon than when just walking [at least when outside in the wind and snow anyway,] or how they got rid of individual ammo types for a single stock [like mass effect] it makes sense when considering the weapon builder but it's still weird and will take time.
The new enemies are pretty good and can take a little getting used to [especially the first sub-boss, but I won't go into details.]
I'd already pre-ordered the game cause I'm a big fan of the series but now I'm really looking forward to it's release.

Interesting looking furry game, be a boss or zombie
Posted 13 years ago
The first is an auction to be a boss character, the journal for this is HERE
The second of which is a free raffle to make an appearance as a zombie in a future piece of DLC for the game, you can find the journal for that HERE
Go check it out and give him your support.

My dog, life and death.
Posted 13 years agoI feel like I need to write this, to talk about how he lived and how he died just to get it out there..... probably a bad idea, already cried like hell describing his last year [wrote that before this and will write his beginning last to leave myself and anyone who reads this with happier memories.]
About a year ago he'd have issues where his legs couldn't support him, he'd collapse on the floor making a crying sound and lose bladder control, after this happened a few times we took him to the vet and found out he had degenerative heart disease and they gave us medication for him and said he probably wouldn't last a year.
As first he was back to normal acting as usual like a dipshit-puppy [despite being 16-17 at the time.] But over the last month he was getting worse and worse, he had arthritis which made it so he couldn't support his weight with his back end for long, when standing still he'd slowly sink towards sitting but almost never just sat down or lay down to take the pressure off.
A week ago he was having a lot of trouble walking so we took him to the vet early [he was due again in two months] and they said his heart was doing well and gave him a spinal injection that should have helped his walking. After that his health deteriorated rapidly [I do not blame the injection, I think it was just bad timing.]
Yesterday he stayed lying down [sleeping most of the time] from at least 08:30 when I got up till I made him get up to eat and go outside at 15:45. He could just about stand up but wouldn't walk anywhere at all and had to be carried about. Last night at 22:00 he had trouble standing up, his pulse was fast and he was breathing heavily. Drool coming out of his mouth had blood in it. By 23:00 he was far worse and his heavy breathing was crackling [I don't think I'll ever forget that sound.]
We found the address of an all night emergency vets, my mum called her mother for a lift [dad works nights,] wrapped him up in a blanket and I had him on my lap in the back of the car and were on our way by 23:30.
We got to the vets around 00:00... he'd died in my lap at least 15 minutes earlier, after his pulse and breathing had gotten slower and gentler over a couple of minutes. I couldn't stop stroking him till I handed him over to get out of the car at the vets even though I knew he'd gone, my mum couldn't stop stroking him even while he was lying there on the vets table when we left 20 minutes later.... he was still warm.
The heart issues had causes fluid in his lungs and he'd basically drowned, those near two hours were not pleasant at all and he must have been suffering badly, I'm only glad he was so peaceful right at the end.
We got him in 1996 as a rescued dog that had been found on the streets of Leeds, the place we got him from told his they thought he was between 18 and 24 months old at the time so that means he lived about 18 years.
I was only 11 at the time and when we went to the farm/shelter he played with me right away and the choice was made, he was this wonderfully energetic mutt, a crossbreed between a whippet and a staffordshire bull terrier very similar to this one. Almost his whole life he acted like a complete dipshit puppy, never met a dog as bad at catching things in my life, you'd throw him a treat and it would just smack him between the eyes and he'd spend 5 minutes searching for it even though it was RIGHT THERE! XD
He had such strange quirks too, like how whenever he'd fart it'd cause him to run away from it. Or how he'd act like a damn cat all the time, arching his back when you stroked him, turning and walking a little away to force you to stroke his ass... what a pleb. He never could get the hang of fetch, managed to teach him to chase it and bring it back but he refused to learn to let go of it after to keep playing XD
I'm gonna miss him so damn much, am missing him so damn much. We won't be having a pet for a while but when we do it'll definitely be another rescue and a mutt [no purebreeds.]
I'm not back yet, not sure when I will be, I need need to get this all out.

Bogrim's tournament, out in the second round. Oh well ^_^
Posted 13 years agoThankyou to everyone who has shared their analyses throughout both of our matches, you really made this fun and interesting for me. It was really nice seeing things from so many different perspectives and reading people's opinions on how myself and
electrocat's characters would handle themselves in our fights.
Thankyou to those of you who just voted, I'd have loved to have read your reasons for voting but am thankful that you voted at all and helped makes these matches so close [that goes to everyone, regardless of who you voted for.]
Thankyou to my competitors [both fights] you have all helped make this extremely enjoyable and I hope we can each have rematches somehow, somewhere to continue the fun.
Thankyou to
electrocat for taking on the commission for my entry and for her subsequent interest in the tournament and agreeing to partner up with me.
Last, but certainly not least, thankyou so much to
bogrim for creating the tournament, putting so much time and effort into it, putting up with everything he's had thrown at him and, of course, for allowing myself and all of us for allowing us to take part in such a great event ^_^
Good luck to everyone still in the tournament, I hope you all have as wonderful a time as I have and will each have fun, play fair and kick some ass :3
For those of you with no idea what I'm talking about.... you fail, you fail big time, go check out
bogrim's tournament now dammit ^_^

PC advice BADLY needed [digital art/hardware related.]
Posted 13 years agoThe laptop I've been using as my desktop pc for the last 3-4 years seems to be reaching it's limits [wifi card randomly stopping working and requiring reinstallation of the drivers, recently blue-screens due to writing executable to non-executable....whatever.]
As such I'm considering getting a new PC to replace it [even though I really cannot afford to as I'm still trying to get out of my overdraft.]
Regardless I don't have a choice but to get a new one and will be doing so in a few weeks. When I do get a new one I need to know what to prioritise for my needs, what actually matters?
I will mostly be looking to do the following:
- Browse the web
- Play flash games/animations
- Watch stuff [dvds, avis, mp4's, mkvs, etc.]
- work in Sai and similar programmes.
I may want to play some steam games, but that is not a priority.
For what I want am I right in thinking that the graphics card [or whatever it is that the processor chip does instead of a graphics card] doesn't matter for any of that except for the optional gaming? Is it best for me to go purely for processing power and ram?
I really don't know what actually matters XD

To repeat my last comment from the submission:----
Thankyou to everyone who participated in the voting [and I mean that for both teams,] it wouldn't have been as fun without you taking part.
Thankyou to those who included your analysis with your votes, as much fun as seeing the votes was you guys really brought the fight to life and I had a wonderful time discussing your reasons with you and getting to see things from so many different perspectives.
Thankyou to Bogrim for running the tournament, this fight has been far more fun than I ever expected it to be and I can't wait to take part in my next fight.
Finally, but certainly not least, thankyou to Fe5ter and crocdragon89 for being such good competitors and I look forward to a rematch someday ^_^
P.s. If anyone writes a story for the fight please leave me a comment so I can see it, it's the one thing I've missed ^_^

Bogrim's tournament, my teams first fight is next ^_^
Posted 13 years agoIn case you aren't already watching
bogrim and following his tournament I explained a little about it two journals ago here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/3606191/
The next match will be myself and Electrocat's Predator VS Veke and Norug-gul, I'm really looking forward to seeing how this turns out [win or lose I still end up in bondage eventually :3] It's going to be really fun seeing how others bring Kino to life with their fight descriptions.
Now, as I said before in the previous journal about the tournament: If you do decide to follow the event please don't just vote for me [or whoever you might know,] vote for who you feel should win based on the stats, arena and abilities. I'd be happy to win, but only want it to happen if I deserve it not because I have X watchers :3 Have fun and play fair guys ^_^

Trading card games, advice, recommended games/decks?
Posted 13 years agoI've never played any [except the MtG games on XBLA] but I've been thinking about giving them a go.
Not only do I want to play but also to enjoy the art. I'd like to be able to play a deck that fits my interests, so mostly/exclusively male [really not interested in the type of female art often found in these games] and preferably non human [including anything that's practically indistinguishable like elves and dwarves.]
The male preference is obvious but the non-human part isn't about anything else other than frankly I find human art boring as there's just not enough imagination or distinction involved. So that leaves anthros, animals, mythical creatures, etc.
I know that in some games you have different deck groupings [example from the yugioh cartoon being how there were bug decks, zombie decks, robot decks, etc] am I right in assuming you can buy just those types of decks/boosters so I could choose something right away? Also, are each of those types of decks balanced to stand on their own?
Also, as interesting a game as it could be I'm not considering furoticon as there's no way to play it cleanly [whereas anything clean you can make dirty if you want :3]
TLDR: Can any of you recommend any TCG's that are actively played and preferably contain specific deck options that have few/no humans or females. [Not furoticon.]

Bogrim's tournament event
Posted 13 years agoFor those who don't know already
Bogrim is currently running another of his combat tournaments. I highly recommend checking it out [it's fun and he is a good writer and artist.]
From this point on there will be spoilers regarding the previous tournament: ========================
I saw his first tournament last year and really enjoyed the concept of bringing together users original characters in a fighting tournament that the viewers could vote on to pick a winner. It's just such a fun and social concept and it brings peoples characters to life in interesting ways both through their own decisions regarding stats/info/abilities and the submitted writings of the viewers.
It also didn't hurt that Bogrim had the idea of the tournament being run by a criminal mastermind who likes to capture people, tie them up and turn them into/sell them as sex slaves :3 This [in regards to the tournament specifically] he accomplishes through the clever idea of having all fighters use a specially made teleporter to reach the arena, a system that has to send fighter and clothing separately necessitating their being naked at transport (and just as the system can send them to the arena and clothe them, it can also send them to a holding-cell and bind them when they lose.)
Also, even the final winner ends up trapped in the end. As such whether you win or lose you're going to end up naked, bound and on full display :3
Given all of this when I saw that he was going to do a second tournament this year I jumped at the chance to enter, and so I commissioned
electrocat to create both pieces of art for my entry [you had to submit a fighting pose and the bound pose] which you can see here and ended up with her joining in too and teaming up with me for the preliminary tag match(s.) her entry you can see here.

Rage of Bahamut, anyone else play? [Android/IoS card game]
Posted 13 years agoI'm wondering if other furs play this game, I'd like to start an order and play together with others if possible.
It's pretty basic but it has nice artwork [even if it's mostly provocatively posed human/anthro females,] and can be a nice thing to do on your phone.
I'd like to play more socially, help each other and chat.

Just finished Mass Effect 3, thoughts.
Posted 13 years agoWell after a week and 60 hours of singleplayer gameplay [possibly as much in multiplayer as well ^_^] I have finished my normal runthrough [Insanity soon!]
======================= THERE WILL BE SPOILERS. =======================
The positives:
The game is great, I'd recommend it to anyone.
The combat is fun and about the right level of tough. The changes that have been made to powers have really enhanced combat.
The multiplayer is a great deal of fun, how anyone argues against it is beyond me as it's just the singleplayer combat but replacing the two AI's with upto 3 humans. It has an impressive difficulty curve which makes it feel like an accomplishment to survive it.
The scripting and voice acting is spot on [with the exception of the C-sec head after the attack on the citadel.... his voice suddenly goes to crap in my opinion.] There are some real gems both in the main access story and hidden about [be sure to check out the movie poster and talk to EDI often between missions.]
The negatives:
There are many graphical glitches that I am sure they will fix with patches [character models not being where they should be in conversation scenes, textures flickering and battling to appear on the citadel (mostly precidium commons and the hospital.)]
A few timing/sound issues that will likely be fixed [sometimes sentences would fade out/be cut shorter than the subtitled content during conversations.]
There is no final boss battle, it's only a small thing for me as the battle with kai leng and the defence of the missiles work pretty well as sub-bosses but I would have liked to have some form of final boss battle.
The biggest contention for me though is Harbinger, he played such a huge role in ME2 yet basically none at all [conspiracy theories not-withstanding] in ME3.
The game itself:
Most of the game really does feel like you are taking part in a war and that your chances are pretty slim but still existent, even the planet scanning from ME2 has become fun [playing cat and mouse with the reapers to get every last resource even after you've attracted their attention is fun ^_^
The ending [which isn't just the final minutes it's really from the moment that you become locked into the final assault beginning with the attack on the Illusive man's base] is both large and focused enough that it just feels right.
The final few minutes are a little too linear with very little interaction [can you even fail to reach the beam if you don't kill the husks and marauder with your unlimited ammo, no-clip gun?] However the talks with the Illusive man and with the catalyst are pretty good. I like how you can basically repeat your actions from the end of ME1 by getting Jack to kill himself just as you got Saren to :3 Though [despite wanting a final boss battle] I'm glad they didn't then bring him back to fight like Saren.
Two of the final three options that you are given are pretty good, I can see myself choosing destruction if I do a renegade path, I'm unsure over control as it doesn't make much sense [you're told it will kill you to do it and yet you ask if you'll be able to still control them.... though you'd be dead....]
For this run however I chose synthesis, the melding of cybernetic and organic was intriguing. It feels like the natural outcome of current life and would stop the fighting, some talk about how it would stop evolution and such but I don't think they were listening to the catalyst. The merging created a completely new base component of life that replaced DNA, with everything sharing the same base code [or whatever] who knows what possibilities this would form. For instance, maybe now all life is compatible with each other and it's not just the asari. This could lead to untold possibilities for life and peace.
People are upset that whatever choices they made had very little impact upon the end, only the effective military strength mattered.
Respectfully I disagree with this reason for being upset. Your choices affected your journey, the destination may have been the same but you are not. The journey and your life experience are what matter here, the choices you made throughout this and the past two games were reflected in myriad ways throughout. You do the same missions regardless of what you did in the past but the people you interact with change based on your choices, had you not gained the loyalty of past crew and kept them alive in the suicide mission they would not have been there [think of how Kasumi, Thane, Jack and all the others impacted your experience in ME3. Now think of those same events happening with the same outcomes but without the emotional attachment those characters brought.]
There were FAR too many choices throughout the games to be reflected directly in the ending, instead they have been reflected throughout the entirety of the game itself.
Overall I'd currently give the game 90%, fix the glitches and that goes up to 95%, add a final boss 98%, add more to do in multiplayer [maps, modes, etc] and it would be 100%

Overall I'd currently give the game 90%, fix the glitches and that goes up to 95%, add a final boss 98%, add more to do in multiplayer [maps, modes, etc] and it would be 100%
Fuck you 2011, hello 2012.
Posted 14 years agoNo idea if I'll ever write a full version of this [I probably should as it helps to vent but I don't really like to make a fuss all that much,] but I need to write a little at least.
This has probably been one of, if not the worst years of my life for the following:
- Depression,
- Failing my degree,
- No job prospects,
- Back with my parents,
- No social prospects [I hate this town,]
- No romantic prospects,
- The family dog is going to die,
- Friends ignoring me,
- metric fuctons of self doubt.
Not all been bad though...
Good things this year:
- ConFuzzled,
- Working on art,
- Working on cooking [need to do more and maybe make a career out of it,]
- Losing weight [though have put some back on.... damn you people who gave me sweets as gifts!]
Here's hoping 2012 will be better and that I will MAKE it better.

Loving the site, even in beta it's almost everything that FA should have been 6 years ago.
I highly recommend checking it out.

Great FA extension for chrome
Posted 14 years agoIt lets you see fullsize popups of images by hovering over their thumbnails. [Doesn't work on userpages though, just frontpage/search/gallery/submissions/etc.]

26 yesterday :( ==rantish===
Posted 14 years agoThat was such a crap birthday.
I got ten birthday greetings in total, 8 of them were automated emails from websites and one from my parents.
Only one from a friend.
Honestly it's a good thing I've finally started on anti-depressants cause I don't wanna know how down I'd have been about this otherwise, cause it's it's bad enough as it is right now.
Sad and pissed off right now.
