There are many bills and expenses that have piled up. I don't have a jacket for winter at all, we are delayed with bills, and i wouldn't mind eating some proper food for a change. As it has been for a long while I only take on commissions as it is absolutely neccesary for minimum survival in order to progress as much as possible with my backlog.

I am considering doing a YCH each day from today until next Friday so I can earn up some mons, finishing them on the very same day. The one I opened today is almost completed too, it was the test.
I would do similar quality YCH-s as I sold today, for 100$ each, FCFS. Stricly YCH-s because I can choose elements and themes I know I can finish fast.

Due to the advise of many people I tried making my commissions into raffle style in the last month. The interest has heavily dropped and it's really depressing to see slots for the first time in my life not getting taken.
So the current opening is the last I do this way, I'm going back to FCFS next week.

Although the next openings are planned to be YCH auctions, I have a few ready waiting already.

The first two "misc" items are not necessarily going to be finished first, I honestly grew very jaded of painties and I might struggle to achieve good quality, and I will delay them if necessary, but the rest should be in order.

Well, my roomie had one of those browser extensions that display real-time notifications from FA installed. It worked all nice for quite a long time now. Today it derped hard, spammed FA with requests just asking for new notifications at an insane rate, and our IP got disabled for it. How beautiful is this? *facepalm*

Since my public queue didnt get updated in the summer while i was on meds, i wanted to redo it and revise everything.
And instead of an ugly spreadsheet I made my own little app to handle it. It's still ugly but it's mine.

So after a summer and half September of just being down it's time to once again pick up my battle with my staggeringly huge backlog. i have been of course working already for a while now, but i mean a more coordinated effort on completing the whole thing. At summer beginning I had a backlog if 700+ hours, now this number is below 600. I didn't progress much, but considering I couldn't really work at all I am proud of this improvement. Let's make it zero by the end of this year!

3-4 months ago i was already planning on doing a backlog marathon where i work 14 hour every day and just push it through, and then my heart gave in in June. best timing. Ok it was my fault, i'm too old to work like that anymore.

This time i spent a lot of time planning and thinking through everything! It's important that I balance my workload so i don't go starving or bills don't bury me; also that the June incident doesn't happen again. I don't want any more delays either.
I will finish some very urgent jobs first; like Furvilla avatars can't wait, those are meant to be used now. There aren't many cases like that, it should take only a few days.

I will then spend an hour or so on each and every commission I have, complete a sketch for each that does not have one yet, or make plans for revisions to those that are too old and are not up to my current quality standard. Those that only have some colors on top of the sketch will get that done too so simple commissions will be done soon. I will make those first actually so the wait time is minimized for those who are just waiting on a small thing.
This is so everyone sees some progress finally, and we also get on the same page with everyone.

Commissions from over 1 year ago will be restarted, save a very few exceptions that turned out really well. You are free to make completely new arrangements for your past commissions from that time as long as it has the same detail level and number of characters as agreed on initially. YCHs not included, except to change your character.

Traditional piece commissioners will be offered digital replacement as my hands were already too twitchy, now my condition worsened and it's literally impossible for me to work with real media. in PS i can just undo my random lines, irl that's not the case. You will be noted before I start, I need your agreement of course.

Stream pieces will be completed off-stream, as I work faster when no one sees me. There will be no streams for a while. I'd love to but being fast is more important at the moment. (I will stream again in the future of course!)

Free artworks that weren't raffle wins and other special occasions are on hold and will be picked up again only by demand; like chubby practice works or random requests i accepted.

Art trades are cancelled; i didn't receive anything anyway either so there is no loss here.

All collabs will be taken over by me completely as none of the other parties finished anything (except those where their part is done completely already of course)

New commissions from September are limited to weekends only. In some cases the slots will open mid-week, but will be worked on at the weekends still. This way I have 50 hours a week to concentrate only on my backlog. 60 even sometimes.

Fair warning that in case of a refund request I may need up to a week to gather funds as I only take on as much work as absolutely necessary to keep going, and cannot afford to save up yet not for personal use nor for refunds. Currently 100% of my income goes to Storm who manages groceries and other living costs, I do not keep anything for myself until my backlog is completed. This does not mean I will refuse refunds of course, I couldn't do that if I wanted to.

And it has been talked about what is the best way to sell a commission. I always did first come first serve or sometimes an auction and never really thought deeply into it; although I have received many comments from disappointed people who couldn't grab a slot.

I thought that opening commissions at different times with first come first serve base I would let anyone take a chance sometimes. Especially with me; my prices are low due to my slowness, which is quite tempting for a lot of people to take, so I had to decide on a way to choose, it wasn't a case of getting an offer once in a blue moon. (Which I am very happy about, don't take this as complaining, it's awesome!) Selecting commissions one by one didn't appeal to me as I really really hate rejecting people and I am not the most decisive person anyway. I feel like my already monstrous backlog would be 10 times the size if I did that.

On a sidenote, the more limited the artist's choice is in the clients the more limitations they should set up; that is so their gallery doesn't fill up with irrelevant content they would otherwise not enjoy to create, which has happened to me in 2015. To an artist it's very important what content they are filling their portfolio up, and thus what commissions do they accept. It has to be something we are proud of and enjoy doing, or it will show on our quality. Basically accepting completely random commission with no restrictions whatsoever can damage an artist on the long run.

So what's your opinion?

I finally snapped and I'm able to paint again like before. I honestly did not think a few months of break would make me so unused to holding a pen. But I'm back into business.
I will first complete the few sketch/small commissions I took up during the summer, and then resume to regular commissions right away.

We will open some collab YCH-s with my roomie  ---storm--- in the future, so we have some income but I'm also not increasing my backlog with too much more work. I hope you guys will love those pics! We are already preparing one and I personally think it's gonna be awesome!
Our bank account has dried up since I cannot work, so we just have to. But it's still a relief that I'm really and finally through the hard part.

Hey guys~!

I wasn't sure about posting a journal about coming back because I had days when I felt better before, and I wasn't sure if this time it's going to last; to be honest I can fall back any moment and there is no guarantee I will ever truly be healed. But right now I'm feeling okay.

In early June I was afraid to say anything and I simply stated I have edema. That is entirely true, edema however is just a symptom of bigger problems (the more prominent and annoying symptom though). Basically the left side of my heart stopped working properly from too much stress and constant overworking. This is called "Congestive heart failure"; and while usually not fatal especially at my age, it can be very dangerous when untreated or when the patient is exposed to stress (and hence why I avoided online interaction, to minimize the chances of being upset). I had it for years, what I experienced in June was entering a deeper stage basically.

Edema is when your body holds fluids back up. There are some images in google image search, it's not pretty. It affects the limbs; my feet couldn't fit in shoes or bend for walking, my fingers were stiff and I couldn't grasp the pen properly. It floods the lungs, making breathing very hard and painful. It also affected my ears; as my ears are already very narrow it didn't take much for them to just blow themselves up. My ear inflammation was far the least dangerous effect, but it was way more painful and horrible than anything else. I had to take in so much painkillers they made me go fuzzy and not really self-conscious. Much of the last 2 months is a big blur for me.

I had more and more better days lately, this time it has been lasting for nearly a week. I’m now working on commissions again, though I’m still not entirely back into the flow of things.


And what’s next?

There are a few things this whole thing made me realize. Firstly that I need to take better care of myself - and as strange as it sounds not for myself, but for those I have made promises. I can't continue to live the way I do now. Secondly that I should start getting the things I only dreamed of, constantly delaying with "I have time, I will do it when everything is better and i don’t have so much work to do.”


I still have the issue of a debilitating large backlog, which only got bigger during 2 months of being disabled.
I'm planning on working 5 days a week only on old commissions, and only doing new ones during weekend; always however much I can take on at the moment based on my state. I already planned that once, but with my 28 hour daily cycles it ultimately failed. I will try to get back into a 24 hour cycle too this time. And I will generally taking on exercising and other healthy habits, not just to make myself feel better, but to give me more stamina to work on commissions. I will start spending more on myself, taking off more time; and to be honest I think it will result in me finishing commissions faster.

In summary, I'm completely emotionally broke and I'm way over my human limits. And I'm not saying this for anyone to feel sorry for me; don't, I put myself where I am now. I'm saying this because I'm simply incapable of going on like this anymore and I’m in an impossible situation.

Thank you so much for the support you all gave me. It really is astounding how much you guys helped me. And not just financially, but the comments and all the emotional support, it’s just crazy.

For a few days now I had to end each day way earlier because my eyes just got so blurry and irritated I had to stop working, I couldn't see what I was doing. This problem has occurred before and it's a recurring issue for years now. It's probably because I stare at a monitor 14-16 hours a day, and not too long ago I was recommended to get a Gunnar pair of glasses. Has anyone used those before, and do they really work at least half as much as advertised?

(Eye-drops are sort of temporary solution for every once in a while and are not recommended for long term use; I would love to avoid that if possible, or just have it around for last resort.)
