FWA Experience
General | Posted 7 months agoA saw a lot of friends and things like that, so the social aspect was nice as always, so that was always a plus!
I gotta say at least for me, the virtual queue thing they were going for, I didn't like it. I didn't fully grasp it at the beginning and had assumed the time slot mean that's when you get to go into whatever you put. Me and my buds picked the 5:20 slot on Friday to check out the dealers den and when we got there, there was still a line to wait. We didn't get in till roughly 5:45-5:50 and looked at like 2 booths before staff was telling people to leave like huh?????????????????? Like oops my bad I guess.
Or the fact that that I had to walk out in the cold and rain to go to the arcade because the skybridge was exit only for the moonlight thing, so that was kind of annoying too. I don't know what the staffs opinion on the success of that was for the convention this year, but for me at least, was not a good experience.
If I go next year, it's 100% just to see my friends at this point.

Ohayocon Yap
General | Posted 10 months agoI went to Ohayocon 2025 this year, after not going the year before due to all the drama and shenanigans. I will say, having it at the Dayton Convention Center instead of the Convention Center in Columbus was a bit sad due to the size alone. Granted the amount of people who went was way lower than what it was in prior years, felt like I traveled back to when I first started going in 2013 with the attendance size. That wasn't a problem though. I think overall they did their best with what they had. They mentioned doing it again next year at the same place and with some changes that should be totally fine! Want to list some things that at least I hope changes for next year.
1. The multiple locations - They had the game rooms and panels at a hotel. It was to far to walk to and you had to use the private bus to go back and forth, which depending how lucky or unlucky you got waiting as well. Also the rooms for the video game and rhythm game room were extremely tiny, which was a bit of a surprise to see such a small selection, given how many people I know that's one of their reasons to want to go to anime conventions. Hopefully next year the hotel across the street is available and not being constructed on which would save a lot of trouble for sure and make things way easier.
2. Lack of panels and photoshoots - They had signs for photoshoot locations but the guide on the app had none available, which is a shame. I love going to these and the group pictures, or going to themes I enjoy and snagging some pictures myself. I think it's odd that no one signed up to run a photoshoot. Also the panels I went to were very lackluster/not funny. I love going to panels, but most of them were kind of just not it. I am aware it's probably from the size and the sudden change in location and all that, so I'm not going to blame anyone for that. But a panel about jeopardy all about how to make cosplays and the tools and stuff and a whole 25 people went to it. Also personally, the roast they had was extremely unfunny. Dick jokes and saying fuck is only so funny to me.
3. Parking - It's also sad that the parking was a flat ten dollars, which there on its own isn't so bad, that's pretty cheap all things considered. But with no in and out at all, you were kind of stuff there and unless you want to keep spending ten bucks, even if only there for an hour. So once you are gone you are done for the day. Certainly felt a lot different than most conventions I tend to do, with having a nearby hotel and the luxury of going back and forth as I would like.
4. Size - If this convention can climb back and get to the numbers it once had, or close to that, I'm not sure if this place can handle that kind of amount of people. Maybe it can but it is quite small compared to where it was in Columbus.
However I don't want this to be me just complaining. I did go all three days and I am glad it's back! I've been around sense 2013 with this convention. There were some good things too!
1. Food Trucks - Some good food and good prices for the food trucks outside! Even had a bubble tea truck (Which I LOVE <3) so that was super super nice and good available food and drink options, rather than 4.50 just for a drink inside the convention.
2. Some panels were good! - Of course the cosplay competition was quite fun to see all the cool cosplays and the winners! MVP to the Amy from Sonic, that was crazy good! The theater was also very nice and large so seeing on the stage was delightful and the seats were super comfortable. Seeing this convention get huge at this location would be great simply to see more panels in the theater area! Also seeing Samurai Dan here was delightful! He's always funny and his Akita is so cute! Fun learning the history of that dog breed from the old days of Japan.
Overall I would still recommend this convention! Sure I have more complaints than positives, but I think for what they had and what the did they did a really really good job. Given everything I know for a fact I wouldn't do it. I hope Ohayocon continues to live on! I have so many memories and so many friends made and I want to keep it this way! If you read all this, thanks!

General | Posted 7 years agoI leave for a furry convention in two weeks and have the picture but, no way to make the badge myself (At least in the terms of trusting myself, haha.) Anyone within the United States able to make it and ship it to me in that time frame? I can pay obviously!
