Pass-a-song, Anyone?
Posted 17 years agoI'm interested in starting a little something up called "Sideshow Projekt." It's essentially a desperate attempt to break a Guinness World Record. But not really.
Here's how this will work: I'll start a song, meaning I'll completely make the first 30 seconds of the track. Knowing me, it'll probably be build-up and maybe the introduction of a bassline. Maybe. Then, the song (and all samples used within) will be passed on to the next person, who will then work on the next 30 seconds. Then, they will do the same, and we continue passing until we reach the end of the artist list of everyone involved.
Now, this'll take some planning first. I'd need to figure out how many people would be involved. Preferably over 6, so we don't have to repeat artists. Also, people would need to be assigned a number to be sure that we continue in order. Also, the later numbers would need to start bringing the song to a close.
What's the point of "Sideshow Projekt?" To have fun mostly. But also to see how several artists can interact and work together to produce one piece. Think of it as a massive collaboration effort.
So, who's interested?
Also, since no one answered it before, I want to know who, if anybody, would pay for any of the following DJ Mix Set options:
Option A - $3: A 30-minute mix set of songs chosen by the DJ (me) specifically for the person making the request. A genre would need to be selected by the commissioner.
Option B - $5: A 1-hour mix set of songs chosen by the DJ specifically for the person making the request. A genre would need to be selected by the commissioner.
Option C - $5: A 30-minute set of songs chosen by the commissioner. List of songs would need to be included with the request.
Option D - $10: A 1-hour set of songs chosen by the commissioner. List of songs would need to be included with the request.
Option S - $12: A set made specifically for other musicians. If you have music that you'd like arranged into a mixed set for personal or promotional reasons, this would be the ideal choice for you. Details would need to be discussed with the DJ.
So, would anybody pay for these? Maybe not at these prices? If that's the case, please let me know what prices you WOULD pay for such things.

Some New Commission Ideas...
Posted 17 years agoOkay, now I've been thinking about this for a while. I need a better flow of income. And the best way to do that is through commissions. However, my commission inflow has been horrible, my music output has been even worse, and as a result, nothing has changed.
So I want to know who, if anybody, would pay for any of the following DJ Mix Set options:
Option A - $3: A 30-minute mix set of songs chosen by the DJ (me) specifically for the person making the request. A genre would need to be selected by the commissioner.

Remember, I'm a very open and eclectic guy. I'll mix just about any genre, save for Polka (it doesn't mix well.) Hell, I'd hate it, but I'll even mix Reggaeton if you want. Just let me know what you guys think of these ideas.

AGH! I have a question for you musicians...
Posted 17 years agoParticularly you,
lord_meatball.
I have some money available to me right now. I had planned to save up til my September paycheck and then buy some DJ equipment. Namely, 2 Stanton C.324 DJ CD Players. It sounded like a good idea when I started planning.
But now I discover ReFX Nexus 2. And I'm in love.
Slight problem, though. It's $350. Now, I can afford it, but it's going to practically obliterate my ability to purchase my CD Players. So, here's the question:
Do I cave and buy this, or do I save up like intended? The REAL real question is:
Do I want to make better music, or do I want to work on becomming a professional DJ?
Please help. I'm stuck here and could use some people's opinions. >_<

MUAHAHAHAH!!!!
Posted 17 years agoYes, a new avatar. And it's animated. Thanks to
Delphinidae. He made this for me, and I can't thank him enough. It's just full of fun. XD
So, in case no one knew, it was my birthday on the 18th. But my birthday wasn't very good. In fact, it was probably the worst one I've ever had. But today is the party, so hopefully it will make up for Wednesday.
I have no idea when I'll have new music up, folks. I mean, some changes in work mean I'm now stuck manning phones for 8 hours a day. I can still get online and stuff, but working on music during the work shift is no longer possible. I'm going to try to work on some this weekend. I have about 8 unfinished projects right now. 1 is a commission that I haven't been paid for yet, so I don't know if there's a rush on that. 1 is a remix of a song I made back in the beginning of 2007. 1 is another remix of a fairly popular song - "Blue Horizon" by Shadowrider. If you've listened to the mix set I linked in my previous journal, you'll recognise it as the first track. Then I have 1 track that I'm building on with the groundwork laid out by
Delphinidae. The other 4 are original tracks, sort of. One of them takes the vocals of a classical opera song (sung by a dear friend of mine) and sets them to new music. The other three for sure are original, though. One of them looks to be absolutely enthralling when it's finished. IF I get to do with it what I want to. ;)
So yeah. Just a little update. :)

Well, since everyone ELSE is doing it...
Posted 17 years agoHere's a link to my most recent mix. It's something I'm actually planning to do more regularly, once I have more free time and my mixer doesn't kill my laptop with memory parity errors. <.<

Oh jeez! Updates!
Posted 17 years agoYeah, been a while. But I have to be honest. I don't really pay much attention to my journal here, because no one else really seems to, either. -_-;
Anywho, yeah. New upload. It was a secret, but due to terrible time constraints, that secret needed to be ruined. I just don't like not releasing anything, especially since I have so many unfinished stuff hanging around in my musical closet.
Which brings me to my next point. Here are a few things you can expect in the near future (READ: This Week):
1) A COMPLETED remix for a competition run by Paul van Dyk of his track Far Away. The grand prize is awesome! It's a package of awesome musician stuff which includes having the winning remix produced on Vandit Records, PvD's very own label! To be honest, I don't think I'll win grand prize. There are too many people who enter who are loads better than me and they also have better equipment. And time. And they don't make excuses for why they suck, like I do. <.<
2) Moving on! Lots of samples. Because I have a few started projects that I just can't seem to finish for some reason. I'd like to get some outside input on them and see if people can either help me formulate some more ideas or even offer to turn it into a cooperative piece. Like a Korobase vs. So-and-so kind of thing. That'd be cool. >.>
3) A piece built upon the pads made by
_Delphinidae. He had an idea that died for him, so he tossed it my way, and I've been sort of messing around with it. Even I don't really know where this one is going, so we'll all be surprised.
So yeah. That's what's in store.
Also, check out my new bi-weekly mix program. First episode can be found at the link below.

Wowie wowie wowie wow!
Posted 17 years agoSo, I made a remix of one of
lynxie's songs. And she liked it.
Actually, I think she really liked it, because she said it about 20 times. XD I'm just glad that I was finally able to get some feedback on a remix from the original artist! It's like a dream come true!
Also, it's Spring now. And I hate it.
Also also, I can't sleep, and it's nearly 4 AM. Someone apply a sleep aid in the form of a hammer or something, will you?

YARG!
Posted 17 years agoYeah. That's right. A YARG! journal. That makes this entry momentous.
Anyways, it's been a while since I updated the journal here. But here's a few things, music-wise:
1) I uploaded an old track that I forgot about. I think it's the longest one I've ever made, and unfortunately, it's been called a "Basic Trance piece with nothing special about it" on another board. But they're all hardcore musicians over there and usually do nothing but give me sub-par ratings, so I don't really care. I like it, and that's all that matters to me.
2) I finally decided on a logo idea, and with the help of a friend, i was able to make a spray-painted version. I'll upload it as soon as I'm able to scan the dang thing in and add a background via Photoshop. However, you can see the original computerised (and slightly stupid) version as the thumbnail for the last song I uploaded, "Air Traffic."
3) I've been in a bit of a creative depression these past 2 weeks, but late Wednesday evening I was hit with minor inspiration. At first I thought it was crap, and subsequently forgot about it. But I revisited it on Friday, and then again Saturday night. I'll take my time with it, of course, but it's coming along very nicely. So even though I've pushed out 18 tracks in a year and a half, I'm not done yet with the old music-making. Seems my muse was just taking a short vacation. Darn him! XD
So yeah, be on the lookout. I might post previews..... MAYBE! That's a big maybe. I don't usually like posting things that are undone, but it might help me to get some in-process feedback and make adjustments where necessary. Anybody think that posting samples is a good idea? Terrible idea? Don't care? Just let me know. 8)

Blarg Spring.
Posted 17 years agoSo, I've been feeling significantly more feral all week. Being indoors kind of sucks, which is strange because I hate the sun. XD
I've been letting my claws grow out a bit. I normally don't because where I work, we do some heavy lifting everyone in a while, and long nails = hard time. But I'm just too lazy to do it now. Plus, they make my fingers look shorter. <.<
Tis just like the start of the Spring semester to make me lull about like some fat lazy creature with nothing to do. Even though I have tons to do.
What happened to my Winter! Come back!! T.T

In an attempt to make myself feel better...
Posted 17 years agoI'm going ahead and posting up a journal here, as well as on my DeviantArt. See, I kinda have to keep one. It's my New Year's Resolution.
Anyway, I'll leave out all the serious crap, considering I did that on my dA. So this one is for fun.
Today, I bought Daft Punk's Alive 2007 finally. Awesome classics remixed and mixed together ftw! This will make the drive home much more enjoyable! =D
Also, I'm headed to my good friend's house. We have an improv meeting there later, and I'm going to be early. Because we're cool like that. We might play the new Need For Speed game, and that should really help me work out my issues.
Pleasant days to all. :)
