It's been a year since last time, so I'll post an update so everyone knows where I've been.

Turns out the problem with my arm is not something that can be fixed with surgery. I'll be dealing with it for the rest of my life. I can slightly improve my drawing ability with time and effort, but I'll never be able to draw as much as I used to. In between drawing, I've been looking for stable work and spend time with friends. I've got a big backlog of stuff that's been paid for, so there's plenty to do, but it's still not really FA suitable. I'll post here when I can. WIPs and sketches are available on my discord server.

Thank you for your patience during my absence. I'm finally making some progress on getting my arm fixed. I should have some idea what the process will be within the next three weeks.

In the mean time, most of the time I can draw has been spent working with a dear friend, on stuff that doesn't really fit in a gallery? Exactly?

Right now it's a basic hub with some chat channels, a spot to share art, and a couple channels where I post new uploads.

You may have caught the introduction image for my new character Morgan.

I wanna try something interesting with her. She's a streamer by trade, which means she necessarily interacts with her audience. So I'd like to make a lot of the artwork and media I make with her about interacting with my audience. Where possible, I'll use characters from volunteers to pair with her, and create polls to determine what she does. As much as possible, she'll be a character that you can directly interact with.

I'll make another post later to start collecting volunteers, so please don't do that here.

This is a light update to let you know where I'm at in life, and to say thank you for your support this year.
If you're not particularly interested in me as a person, and prefer to think of me as an artist, then that's totally fine. Thank you for enjoying my artwork, and I hope to provide you more in the coming year!

Early this year, I started a new job. It's a job I don't really like, and doesn't really suit me. I don't think I'll be there for much longer but I have contractual obligations that I need to fulfill before I leave. Regardless of how I feel about my time there, it's definitely made me financially secure, hence why I stopped commissions and only released artwork occasionally. I hope that artwork has come across as more sincere or of higher quality, or at the very least more accurately my brand. In the coming year, I intend to finish my work with my current employer and return to artwork as a career. As such, I'll be reopening commissions privately, and going public when I close out with the current job. Please look forward to it.

Anyway, thank you. Thank you for the favorites, watches, and especially thank you for the comments on my uploads. My heart soars every time someone feels strongly enough about my work to share their opinion with everyone else. The support from my watchers, fellow artists and peers has kept me together through some pretty rough moments. Your words have motivated me to keep improving and exploring new ideas. Thank you once and a thousand times for your help.

I kinda vanished there for a bit, huh.

After coming off the high of finishing my October comic, I've been struggling with my more regular work. I felt like it had and has a level of quality that I should have moved past. When I sit down to work, I normally struggle with a voice that sits on my shoulder and tells me how terrible my work is. A "Mr. Not-good-enough", for those who are familiar with the term. Normally I just ignore it. But lately I've been feeling its criticism a little more keenly. Drawing has been exhausting, and I've been avoiding it for fear of having to listen to that voice.

So here's my solution; just do better.
I've decided to up my game, and raise the bar on the minimum quality of work I put out. I want to do more extreme perspectives and angles, and draw at a finer level of detail. I want to raise my colouring quality as well. But it's taking more time to do so. Hopefully my skill will catch up soon before long and I'll hit another stride.

It's not really anything I need help with. It's personal growth, etc, etc.
But it's affecting the rate I finish and take on new commissions, so I thought I had a responsibility to be transparent.

Today did not go well.
I am going to need some recovery time.
I lost my artwork folders, among other things, so all my commissions are back to square zero.
Sorry.

Got a semi-secret project that I'll be doing over the course of October.
So I won't be taking on any new commissions for a while.
Hopefully you'll enjoy what I'm crafting, and I come out the other end of this month with some new skills to offer you all.

Gonna take a break from commissions for a while. Not handling the commitment all too well.
Need to take some time out and rethink some things.
I'll probably keep drawing on and off for the foreseeable future, but mostly just selfish stuff.

I am not particularly candid about how I'm doing at the best of times. But at this particular moment I feel like I need to speak up.
I struggle on and off with depression. Some months I'll be fine, others I'll slip into a long lethargic bleeargh, with barely the motivation to eat.
It can affect my productivity with my work, and has, in the past, lead to some commissions taking up to three months to finish. This is why I never take payment until I'm finished working.

This time I'll be seeking professional help, and potentially trying to get some medication so I can focus and keep working.
Before you offer, I'm not interested in talking with anyone about my feelings. It's just not really the way I operate.

I'm sorry for any delays. I'll do my best to work when I can sum up the courage.

After years of clinging to life, despite a faulty connection, a pen with a battery life shorter than my memory span, and software as co-operative as a GOP senator, my tablet has finally given up the ghost.
