A question for everyone
Posted 11 years agoSo I bought a pair of arcade games on steam about a week ago and mentioned to
cajaka that I self imposed a $1.5 limit on my continues for the game.
I believe my joke was "you aren't really playing an arcade game unless you have quarters lined up in front of you."
He joked that I should line up shots of alcohol and take one each time I die.
So, would anyone be interested in watching that? XD

Posted 11 years agoYesterday was Memorial Day here in the United States. It's a day that's meant to be set aside to honor and remember fallen military personnel.
With this year being the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the first world war, I planned on observing memorial day by posting 7 pictures during the week leading up to memorial day. Six of them were to be accompanied by poetry written by soldiers who fought in World War One, and the seventh was going to be accompanied by a poem written by myself. If I'd gotten the idea a week sooner I would have made it.
Under the time crunch, I was only able to finish 5 of the 6 drawings and about 85% of the poem. I was so tired by the end of it that I forgot to post the fifth drawing until today and I'll be posting the next 2 drawings as soon as they're finished.
In the mean time I would like to say to all members of the military; serving, retired, and deceased--regardless of nation--I did my best to think of and honor you in a meaningful way. I hope you find it acceptable; even if I fell a little short.

I'm a dumbass! :D
Posted 12 years agoIt's -23 degrees outside and I tried to walk home (it takes about 30 minutes).
My mate scolded me when he picked she up and will probably scold me more when she gets home.
Good news is I continue to be alive in spite of myself.
And just yesterday I was calling Rin a dumbass. >_>

Just read it. It's amazing.

I just finished Killzone 2 and 3 (spoilers I guess)
Posted 12 years agoWhat the hell Killzone? You started as a series I could mostly take seriously, and you were shit tons of fun to play. Lots of weapons, most of them with fun alternate attacks and cool sounds. The best part, of course, was getting to play as four different characters, all of whom felt reasonably different from each other, and most levels changed in subtle ways for each character. The icing on the cake was the final level having a unique opening half for each character.
Killzone 2 happens and you no longer have alternate fire on any weapon and can only play as one character. That wouldn't be so bad, but the new cast seems so much less lively than Templar, Lugar, Hakha, and Rico were. Rico himself isn't nearly as entertaining without Hakha's personality to play off of. Savjenko wasn't a bad character, and I thought it was really cool story wise to have Templar get promoted and he died like a badass, but where the hell are Lugar and Hakha? They were a huge part of Killzone 1 and I get no mention of them for 2 whole games. They were my buddies. I miss them.
The story for Killzone 2 was about as good as the first game. Nothing brilliant in there, but it worked well enough with only a few things that made me think, wait really? I don't care how much fun it was to pilot that exo-suit thing or how fun it was to blast people with a lightning gun, they both still came more or less out of nowhere and really felt like they were just someone's pet idea. Which brings us to Killzone 3. Holy shit did the pet ideas take over.
I'm kinda glad I stopped taking Killzone seriously about the time I saw Radec use a personal cloaking device/teleporter in 2 because damn did it get silly in 3. I'm not sure how taking over the leveler from Ferngully to save a bunch of marines from some kind of radiation tower mine field that only kills you if you move by driving over it made it's way into the script, but they had room for fighting the bastard love child of an AT-AT and Metal Gear Rex, so maybe it's just me.
The jetpacks were an okay idea in theory, but in practice they were just awkward and really only served to introduce a new enemy that was more obnoxious that interesting. Speaking of obnoxious, that whole last level seemed kinda obnoxious to me. So now I'm the gunner in a Helgast space fighter and Rico is the pilot. Rico? Really? Rico doesn't fly shit, he kicks doors in and shoots people with a minigun! Then he swears at them. He has no business knowing how to fly a Helgast fighter (and neither did anyone else that went into space with me, by the way).
There were some character designs that seemed out of place too. Mostly the Helgast military's leadership. We figured out that the Helgast are supposed to be space Nazis in Killzone one. You don't need to give half their leadership Hitler mustaches and the other half Stalin mustaches. We can figure out that their horrible people without that visual aid. Helghast aren't supposed to have hair anyway if Killzone one still means anything, but again, maybe it's just me.
That's it for my little rant, I'll go back to loving Killzone and tolerating Killzone 2 and 3 now.

Posted 12 years agoDo any of you speak German?
Posted 12 years agoI have a few pictures I'm working on that I'd like to title in German and I'd prefer not to rely on an automatic translator.
If any of you speak German or know someone that does, I would really appreciate having them translated.

I can make really shitty coasters!
Posted 12 years agoI figured out how to make some functional but low quality coasters the other day! My creativity truly knows no bounds. I'll upload some scans of them soon, and to the handful of people I owe art to still, don't worry I'm getting close to finishing.
All moved in.
Posted 13 years agoI have finished moving and am settling in nicely. I also have 1296 submissions, 7 comments, and 212 journals in my inbox. Nice spam guys :P
So as it turns out
Posted 13 years agoI'm not out of a computer just yet. False alarm ^_^;
From Wednesday to Friday evening
Posted 13 years agoI am not going to have access to the internet because I will be without access to a computer during that time while I am moving. So if you've ever wanted to spam my page for no reason why the hell haven't you? If you've always wanted to spam my page for a reason now you have one. See you all when I get back ^_^
quick update
Posted 13 years agoI am feeling much better now, unfortunately getting sick has murdered my sleep schedule. I'll sleep from noon to 6pm one day and 5am to 2pm the next day and it's a struggle to get back to something normal. I apologize for the numerous streams I have missed. I'll try to get back to streaming soon.

5 lists of 5 things
Posted 13 years agoThe following are five lists of five things each that have been part of my life's experiences. All of them were in someway memorable enough that I think they are things that should be a part of everyone's life. Some of these experiences are from long ago, and the memories have faded much, but I will try to explain my choices as best I can.
5 movies everyone should see:
1. All Quiet on the Western Front (1930/1979)
Both versions of this movie are both horrifying and beautiful. If you've ever seen "Saving Private Ryan" both versions of this movie are what "Saving Private Ryan" wishes it was, and that is not meant negatively.
2. The Man From Earth
The only way to describe this is as some of the most fascinating storytelling I've ever witnessed.
3. Twelve Angry Men
It starts as twelve jurors deciding on whether or not the defendant is guilty of murder and delves into what it means to do the right thing, and why people often choose to do wrong.
4. Once Upon a Time
Once Upon a Time is an adaptation of Windaria and the only English version of the film I know of. While footage has been removed and moved around (possibly for the worse) I can say that the result is a film aimed at a younger audience (12-15) that deals with losing one's way in life in a profound way.
5. The Great Dictator
This film reduces Adolf Hitler to the ridiculous, miserable joke that the world should have seen him as.
5 books everyone should read:
1. 1984
A novel that is both beautiful and terrifying in how well it parallels real life.
2. Brave New World
3. Stranger in a Strange Land
I can't express the influence that this novel has had on what little world building and writing I have done.
4. Starship Troopers
It's rather amusing that the two things about the book that everyone knows about are giant bugs and space marines because when I was reading it those were the two things about it that were easiest to forget.
5. The Alchemist
A novel about the knowledge and adventure that can be gained by choosing to follow your dreams
5 YouTube videos everyone should see.
1. You Have No Idea How Wrong You Are
A 27 minutes presentation about how we can be wrong and not know it.
2. Dancing With Unicorns
An eye opening talk about the difference between faith and religion
3. The Illusion of Superiority
If you've ever wondered why people don't recognize how incompetent they are, this video explains why.
4. Dust That Sings
An atheist speaking about our place in the universe. This video get's a bit confrontational in a few places, but is overall still very good and worth watching.
5. The Paradox of the Second God
An atheist speaking about the love of God.
5 games everyone should play:
These are all free flash games and are all rather short. You have no excuse not to play them.
1. The Killer
A short game about the killings in Cambodia by the Khmer Rouge regime.
2.Immortall
This is the only game that has ever gotten me to apologize to a character and mean it.
3. Silent Conversation
A creative game that is all about reading.
4. Coil
This game has no instructions, but shouldn't be too hard to figure out how to play. I have my own ideas on what it's about, but it's best to go into the game unbiased and form your own opinions.
5. Viricide
A creative shooter that smoothly spans the gap between humor and sad drama.
5 things everyone should say:
I think these all speak for themselves.
1. Please
2. Thank you
3. I love you
4. I made a mistake
5. I forgive you
So those are my 5 lists of 5 things. Please ask me any questions you have, as I would love to discuss these lists. But I would love even more to see you post journals of your own five lists and your own five things. Especially if you have different kinds of lists entirely.
I would also like to mention that I cannot express how difficult it was to make these lists. I've lost track of all of my runner ups for these lists. There is so much experience--even in a life as mundane as mine--that it is difficult to comprehend.
