Commission Slots Opening
General | Posted 5 years agoHi Everyone,
In a few days I'll be opening up a couple of animation freelancing/commission spots, to fill in the gap between now and my next job. If you're interested in getting some animation work done, please fill out the form in the link below and I will see what I can do.
https://docs.google.com/forms/d/e/1.....mbgdw/viewform
There's only a few spots, and it won't be first-come-first-serve but rather based on the projects that best fit my schedule and pipeline. If you have any questions or concerns please feel free to shoot me a message.

The Rhino and the Redbill Kickstarter -Fully Funded!
General | Posted 5 years agoThe Project is Funded!
Hey everyone,
Wow! We did it… and then some! After 30 days, 392 backers, and $28,700 CAD, we have a successful kickstarter under our belt. But the journey is just beginning. First off, I want to express my eternal gratitude to everyone who supported this project along the way. Be it through financially backing it, sharing it with others, or even providing words of encouragement, I couldn’t have done this without you. Animation has been a long time passion of mine and seeing people come out to support independently produced projects like this one just fills me with joy, and I owe it to all of you to produce the best project that I can.
I just want to take a moment to go over some points to give people an idea of what to expect moving forward.
The Final Product
So we’re making a pilot! That’s a lot of work! The good news is that we’ve already started working on it. As mentioned in the campaign our target release date is February 2021, and based on the rate at which we’ve been completing the current workload, we are on track to hit that deadline. All digital rewards will be released alongside the completion of the pilot. Physical rewards should also be out by then, possibly earlier depending on how things go. I will post updates with more information once I have it.
Stretch Goals
Some of you may have noticed, but we actually hit our first stretch goal, meaning we’ll get to apply to more film festivals! This is great news in terms of increasing this film's reach and getting some good exposure. This can lead to more opportunities for these characters, and believe me, I want this to just be the beginning of their journey!
Now while we didn’t hit the second stretch goal, we did get a little bit of the ways towards it. Because of this, if things go well and we come in under budget, I’m going to see what I can do about making a little extra something for the ending. It wouldn’t be the full epilogue I had planned, but it would be something. No promises, but I will see what I can do!
On Accountability
I understand that backing projects on kickstarters comes with an element of risk to backers, and there can sometimes be fears that the project may not come to completion. Because of this, I am going to make it my duty to be as transparent as possible with all of you about where we are in the production (while avoiding spoilers of course). I’ll be posting updates to this kickstarter page as well as my social media channels giving insight as to where we are and how things are going. I’m going to make it a goal to post on the first of the month to show some work in progress and give an idea of how the production is going, as well as posting updates whenever we hit important milestones. I’ve been working on animating throughout this kickstarter campaign and if things continue the way they are going, I’m confident that we will hit our deadline.
Questions and Concerns
Moving forward, if any of you have any question, comments, or concerns about the project, then feel free to leave a message on the kickstarter page. I will be checking in here regularly and will respond as quickly as I can. If you’d like to reach me directly you can email me at AlexHendersonAnimation[at]gmail.com
Final Thoughts
This has been a crazy month for me. It’s been a lot of work to build this project into what it is today, and I’m not going to lie, I’m pretty exhausted. That being said, I’m also excited to really kick this thing into full gear and really start to bring these scenes to life. Once again, I can’t thank you all enough for all the support you’ve shown me. It means so much to me to have your confidence and I promise to deliver the best finished product I can. Stay tuned to this kickstarter page for updates as we go. See you all at the finish line!

The KICKSTARTER for The Rhino and the Redbill is now live! Uncover a journey about friendship and survival in this animated, action-adventure pilot. Check out the link to see the trailer and how you can get involved!
We've had plenty of great and talented people helping to develop this project to what it is today. Big thanks to our two leads adlertheeagle and @richieammonsvo, playing Red and Niles respectively. This project wouldn't have been possible without them.
Also in our talented cast is @Third_Strongest, who has been contributing additional voices. We would also like to thank JLFM97 for the music he has been providing for the project. We've had some great people helping out with this project, with plenty more we'll be adding along the way.

The Rhino and the Redbill - Animated Pilot Pre-Launch
General | Posted 5 years agoIt’s the kickstarter that just won’t die! The Rhino and the Redbill Animated Pilot is back and goes live next week. After months of reworking we’ve got a brand new product and fun new rewards! Trailer coming soon!
For those of you new to my page, a couple of years ago I tried to get funding for my animated pilot “The Rhino and the Redbill”. While I didn’t quite get enough traction to get funding, I didn’t let that stop me from going back and retooling the project. It’s new and improved and with tons of production work to show for it.
I’ll be launching a kickstarter campaign for the pilot next week, so stay tuned for more info and the trailer!

Patreon Soft Launch
General | Posted 6 years agoHi everyone,
First off, I want to give a big thank you to all of you for following and supporting my work these past few months. I’ve never had a social media following this large and it’s thanks to you that I’m able to make freelance animation my full time career. I’m really grateful for the opportunity to get to know and work with all of you, and I hope to continue growing with these experiences in the future.
Which brings me to my next point: I now have a patreon.
https://www.patreon.com/ArtofAlexH
https://www.patreon.com/ArtofAlexH
https://www.patreon.com/ArtofAlexH
I know, I know.
Before you jump to any conclusions I want to make one thing very clear: My work is NOT going up behind a paywall. I will still be posting animations and artwork regularly as I always do, and this will not limit access to commissioning me for work. Basically this is a soft launch that I plan on treating as a tip jar more than anything else. At the moment I’m going to be offering small rewards for small prices. At the moment this will include:
Early access to behind the scenes look at my personal projects
Once a month there will be a poll where patrons can make suggestions and vote on the subject matter of an animation/illustration
These may change in the future as I get used to the system. My goal with this is to find new ways to get people engaged with my personal artwork and animations, while also not limiting access to my work. If you like my stuff, please feel free to donate, you’ll find more info on my patreon page. If you can’t or don’t want to, that’s cool too. I’m just happy to have people who are interested enough in my work to follow me.
And if you have any suggestions of what you want to see from me in the future, either as a patron or as a follower, please feel free to let me know in the comments.
Thanks,
-Alex

I'm Back!...And on Tumblr and Twitter
General | Posted 7 years agoHey everyone, long time no see. It's been a while since I posted here and I kind of wanted to give an explanation, as well as let you know where you can find my latest works.
In short, the last few years my time has been spent mostly working on various animated tv series. Now I've sort of pivoted a bit to developing my own material and developing my own animated shorts. If you'd like to see my most recent works and check along with the progress of my projects, please give me a follow on tumblr and twitter:
TUMBLR: http://artofalexhenderson.tumblr.com/
TWITTER: https://twitter.com/ArtOfAlexH
I'll be posting stuff here too, but these sites also a great way to keep up with my projects. I've got some fun animations coming soon and I'd love to have you all along for the ride.
Cheers,
Alex

Looking for Volunteers to Look Over My Animated Short
General | Posted 8 years agoHi everyone,
I hope you are all doing well. As some of you have probably noticed, I haven't been uploading as much as I used to, and there is a reason for that. Right now most of my time is divided between animating TV shows and putting together development work for my own projects. One of those projects being an independent animated short, and it is this short that is the reason for this journal.
I'm looking to see if there are people who would be interested in giving me a hand with this thing. Nothing major, it would only take a couple of minutes. What I'm looking for is a couple of people who would be willing to watch the rough animatic and give me feedback on it. Doesn't need to be an essay, just a couple of sentences letting me know if you understood it and if there is anything you feel could be improved before I move into production, which I am hoping to do soon.
If you are interested in watching my sci fi animated rock opera then just leave a message in the comments and I may get back to you, depending on how much of an interest there is.
Thanks for reading,
Alex

What's new with you guys?
General | Posted 9 years agoHey everyone,
I hope you're all doing well. I was going to make a journal talking about what's going on with me, but really there's not much to talk about. I'm still animating for television while simulataneously doing development art for other projects, and I don't interact as often on here because I'm sort of living a double, sometimes triple life. So I figured, hey, why not see what's new with everyone else. How are all of you doing?

Go see Inside out; Also new Kung Fu Panda Trailer
General | Posted 10 years agoHey everyone, for the sake of getting rid of my old journal, I just wanted to tell everyone to go see Inside Out. I got the chance to see an early screening and it was really well done. Very cute and funny, definitely worth the price of admission.
Also there's a new trailer out for Kung Fu Panda 3. I'm posting it here since not a lot of places are posting it (it's only available n Chinese).

Where you can find my newest work!
General | Posted 10 years agoHey everyone,
I know this seems to be something I'm saying a lot, but I'm sorry that my output on here has slowed down this past year. After jumping off my film and straight into various jobs, I haven't had as much time for personal work, and most of my art is a bit buried under non-disclosure agreements. I'm hoping to post more of it someday, I've done stuff for kids books, iphone games, and some tv shows, but until then I'm here to tell you the place where you can find some of my newest work.
And that place would be on Netflix.
That is, for my friends in the U.S. of A. at least, not sure what the deal is in other countries. Inspector Gadget was released recently on netflix and you can check it out if you want. I had a lot of fun working on it and it's so cool to see it finally released. Personally I found it was cool to get to be doing animation on characters that I grew up with. So check it out if you're interested. Just wanted to keep you all in the loop :)
I hope you're all doing well!

Reason I haven't been here much...
General | Posted 11 years agoHey Everyone,
First off, I want to thank everyone for all the positive comments I got on my film. Your support really means a lot to me and I am incredibly grateful.
Incidentally, the film has also been why I have not been on here much. Even though it has been completed, it has led to some other opportunities which have been very time consuming. For starters, I'm being interviewed in a magazine that is partnered with Disney, so I've had to remake and reformat a bunch of posters and videos. Secondly, and most importantly, I've started a new animation job. So between starting the job and relocating I have just had no time to be posting/admiring the artwork on here.
The new job has been a lot of fun, I really like the people at my new studio and the work is very fun to make. It's especially cool because I'm animating on a certain show that I used to watch all the time as a kid back in the 90's. I wish I could say more, but I signed a confidentiality agreement, so if I have to keep my mouth shut. Otherwise it'll be go go gadget lawsuit.
So yeah, while my output on here has slowed down a bit (which I hope to change), it's only because now my work is moving to the television instead.
Anyway, that's my update. I hope everything is going well with all of you guys. Keep in touch, feel free to chat. And Happy Canada Day!

I Made An Animated Film + Life Stuff+ Commissions Kinda
General | Posted 11 years agoHey Everyone,
How's it going? I hope you're all doing well. I figure its been 6 months since the last journal so I guess I'm allowed to talk a little bit about whats going on in my life.
First off, my film is finished! Which can only mean one thing: I'm finally going to stop posting work in progress pieces and get back to posting original stuff! But yeah, my films screening at school was a big success, I won some awards for it which was awesome. It's got satyrs and minotaurs and cyclopses in it and all kinds of fun stuff. If you want to check it out you can find it here at this link:
OLYMPIADS - http://alexanderhenderson.deviantar.....nger-454290334
But now that that's over, that means I am finally done with school. I'm about to start my new job at an animation studio soon. I won't get into too much detail about where I am or what I'll be doing, but I will say that I'm going to get the chance to animate characters that were a big part of my childhood, which I am super excited about.
And now that my job is secured, I'm looking into relocating. In the meantime I've made up some fun new art projects for myself (I get bored if I don't keep busy, I'm kind of like a shark in the sense that if I stop moving I'll stop moving for good). And I'm also considering opening the doors to for commissions soon. Right now I'm only really looking to digital painting stuff as opposed to my usual model sheets. So if you're looking for stuff like this:
Sample 1 - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8035294/
Sample 2 - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/8560944/
Sample 3 - http://www.furaffinity.net/view/13446490/
I may have to decline depending on how big/complex it is, like I said I'm not officially opening up yet but if you are thinking of getting one then maybe shoot me a note and I'll see what I can do. All payments would have to be handled through Paypal, prices have not been listed because they vary by a lot depending on style, level of detail and complexity of the character/background/scene. Just let me know what you're looking for and we can work out a price. If you are interested or have any questions then feel free to send me a note so we can work out the details.
So yeah, that's my semi-annual update. I hope things are going well with all of you. It's been a super busy and stressful year and it means so much to me that I have all you guys stopping by to give me advice and encouragement. It really kept me going and I really appreciate all your comments and favorites, even if I don't have the time to get to them all. All the best with your own various endeavours and until next time, just remember to keep moving forward.

Shave and a Haircut in Maya
General | Posted 12 years agoHey everyone,
Do any of you guys by any chance have experience using Shave and a Haircut in maya, and if so would be willing to answer a few questions. I'm trying to use it for some animation work, but am pretty new to it and figured I'd ask around before I really start barking up the wrong tree.
Anyhoo, I hope everything is going well with you guys.
Thanks,
Alex

Work update
General | Posted 12 years agoHey everyone,
To start I'd like to thank everyone who has favorited and commented on my work these past couple of months. I haven't had the chance to get back to everyone, but I want everyone to know that I really appreciate it.
I guess it's been a while since I've updated here, and i guess I just wanted to update anyone who's interested on what I've been up to and what's been keeping me from posting more of my work.
In short I've started a new job working in an animation studio for the summer. It's pretty cool and since it takes up a lot of my time, that means most of the work I create is done for them and I can't really post it. Plus my current living situation has me without a scanner or cintiq most of the time so it's a bit difficult to get drawings online. But I've got a back log of sketches that I'm hoping to get to finish up soon. Aside from that its been really cool working in a real animation studio. It's a lot of fun and I've learned a lot in the short time I've been there.
On top of that I'm doing story boarding and preproduction for an animated short that I'm working on. So I'm hoping that I'll get to show some of that stuff and get feedback. Hopefully I'll able to post at a bit of a faster rate now that I've settle into a good groove with everything.
Here's hoping everything is going well with all of you guys :)

Looking for a composer
General | Posted 13 years agoHey everyone, I guess it's been a while since I've posted a journal on the site. I'll try to keep it brief so that you can all go back to your busy schedule of constantly announcing that you're live streaming.
In short, I am currently working on my thesis film for my final year of animation school. Well, technically the project isn't set to start for another couple of months, but I'm looking to gather my assets sooner rather than later. At the moment I'm working on storyboarding, Character designs, modeling, rigging, texturing, and generally figuring out how the film is going to go. This summer, once I have a story real semi locked down and ready to go, I will be looking for people who might be interested in composing the music for it. I'm looking for talented people with a knack for storytelling with music, who would be interested in working with me on this film.
The issue of compensation can be figured out, but at the moment I'm looking to get an idea of whether or not anyone might be interested, so that I could contact them in the future to collaborate. If this sounds like something you might be interested in then feel free to let me know, I'd love to hear you work and get to know some of the talent on this site.
Best,
Alex
