Posted 12 years ago*flop* i write to you now at 2am, after a long busy day, to say that i won't be here again until probably wednesday sometime. why, you ask? well, i'm crossing the boarder into canadaland and going about an hour away to the shores of lake erie to go on my annual beach trip with my high school friends...or as many of them as we can gather, anyway. since i'll be in another country in a beach cottage, i won't have any phone or internet access until i get back. hopefully, this means that it will be nice and peaceful, relaxing and refreshing. usually it's a lot of fun so with luck, that will continue! and then i'll be back to get hard into work on all those commissions i owe! so much planned! so hold down the fort while i'm gone guys, don't make a mess or get fur on everything in my absence! <3

so remember my last journal when i said my mom finally let me get AC in my room??? weeeellll that night, at 9pm, it started raining. and we had this HUGE GIGANTIC thunder storm with the most lightning that i have ever seen in my LIFE. it was near-constant for a while. it was crazy. and awesome. but anyway, that storm lasted on-and-off literally until 10 or 11am the next morning, and it cooled everything off so i haven't even needed to use the AC unit. figures, right? crazy stuff. but it's wonderful, because it's comfy to sleep, and cool enough to draw, and even wear a hoodie *snuggles in her hoodie*
SO. now. i've gotten a couple commissions done, but i've got a bunch left to do. i wanted to get these all finished by the time i started school (sept 3rd), but i'm not sure that's going to happen at this point. i'm still going to try for it, and i'm definitely going to meet any deadlines that people gave me, but i'm not sure about the whole bunch just because i've been so incredibly busy lately. i'm very rarely busy in the summer, so this has been crazy. since i got home from AnthroCon, there have been very few days where i was actually home for a decent period of time and, if i was, we had company over x.x
as for the upcoming week and month....tomorrow, friday, and saturday are booked for at least part of the day, and then sunday i'm leaving for my annual trip to canada with my high school friends, and i won't be home until sometime wednesday. i'll post another journal about this when i leave. however, the time after that and before school starts - so basically the entire month of august - is currently a mystery. so far no one has claimed any of my time, so that should mean the time will be packed with commission work....hopefully. but we'll see what happens as i didn't expect any of the recent busy-ness either.
as a side note, i've now paid about 3/4 of my tuition. i'm feeling pretty broke, but it's all thanks to my awesome friends and commissioners that i could pay it at all, so thank you so much! it really does mean a lot to me that i'm able to stay in school, especially because this should be my last year unless i decide to do something else later. but i should be walking out with a degree next spring, finally, so that's pretty awesome. (it's just an associates in business, for those who are curious. but i've changed majors and schools a few times so it's taken way too long)
i hope you all are having nice summers! ...or winters, silly southern hemisphere, peeps XD and if you're not...well i hope it gets better! *sends good vibes*

Posted 12 years agoguys! guys! my mom finally took pity on me and let my dad bring over and install the extra AC unit he had at home, so i have air conditioning in my bedroom now!!!! this is awesome!!! i'll be using it sparingly because my mom said if it makes her electric bill go up significantly, i'll have to pay the difference or get rid of it and...well, i'm broke XD so sparse usage it is! i don't even care! it's not 90 degrees in my room anymore (i'm not even exaggerating. i might actually be underestimating x.x), and that means i can draw and sleep comfortably and it's wonderful!!! AND it's raining now and cooling everything down a bit, which is also wonderful! ugh. i just....ugh. i love when good things happen.
SO! anyway! on a serious note! this means that i can draw again and get back to serious work on commissions, because i've missed out on so much of it in this heat! i feel SO bad that i haven't been able to work, and i've missed drawing so much. now i just have to remember how x.x i might even get a stream up tonight! probably not....but maybe! you never know!

Hallo!
I just have a "public service announcement" type thing regarding my art - and everyone's art, for that matter. No matter who it is, where they're from, or how popular they are. The message is this: IF YOU REPOST SOMEONE'S ART ANYWHERE, CREDIT IT AND DON'T EDIT IT.
I’ve had a LOT of people reposting my art with no credit at all, editing my pictures for icons/profile pictures/simply removing the signature, and impersonating me and claiming my characters as theirs. My main problem seems to be with Facebook, but this is not okay anywhere at any time.
I understand that a lot of people put time and work into collecting and putting together image collections. I understand that they do this because they really like the art. It can be flattering when people want to share your art with others because they like it and think it is worth being seen by others. It is not flattering, however, when people post the art without giving credit to the person that has done all the original work. If you really like the art and want to share it, then make a way for people to know WHO drew it, so that they can find more as well as give the artist the exposure they deserve. It takes a mere few minutes to post a picture to a site, but it may take hours or days for the artist to create that picture. Don't you think they deserve to be given credit for all that hard work?
There are copyright laws – yes, even on the internet. But on a personal level, I've been drawing and struggling with it for 20 years and I put a lot of blood, sweat, and tears into my work. It makes me very very upset and stressed when people repost my art and characters with absolutely no way to trace it back to me. Along the way, there have been some people who think I’m a terrible, horrible, mean person who goes around looking for pictures to report. For the record, this is not true. I don't LIKE when my art is reposted (at all) especially without credit, but I have never gone looking for images, and I hatehatehate having to report them. But there have been many instances where uncredited art has been brought to my attention, and my response is that I WILL report the image if it is not linked back me - or I’ll at least ask the person to remove the image(s). I LOVE that people like my art, I really truly do. But if it's posted and not linked back to me, how am I supposed to know that people like it? How will they find more? If you repost art without sharing the artist, or edit their hard work, you're really only hurting the artist even if you genuinely love what they do. It takes just a moment of your time to show respect by linking for the hours of time an artist spent creating something appealing.
Another common problem is finding the image in outside galleries and continuing to perpetuate the problem by sharing sourceless art. If you found an image outside a personal gallery and don't know whose it is, reverse search it. If you don't know what that means, Google it. There are many different sites to do this, and you can even use Google itself (Just go to the image section, and click on the little camera. Upload or link the image URL and it will try to find that image.) It’s really an incredibly simple thing to do. In the end, if you just link back to the artist on pictures, it will make everything easier for everyone.
As for characters and impersonation, this is just hurtful. I love my characters and I identify with them. I'm sure you wouldn’t like if someone took something that you owned and loved, and said it was theirs all over the internet. Or if someone pretended to be you and said horrible things about people and made you look bad. It’s the same thing, so please don’t use characters that don’t belong to you. It’s not hard to make your own. The best rule to go by: If there is already art of it, it probably belongs to someone.
So please. Please make it all simpler for artists and admirers everywhere, and link back to artists if you repost art. We’ll all really appreciate it.

post AC + birthday

so AC was pretty cool. i'm not going to give a whole recap, i don't think. just a big conglomerate miss-match paragraph summary of things that happened. thursday we got there at 8pm after a bunch of driving (more on Syn and Neo's part than mine. it was only 4 hours for me >.>), we met up with some people and saw some fireworks, then they went to the Zoo while i stayed in the room for...some reason i don't remember. Friday we spend a ton of time in the Den, which i love, though i didn't but nearly as many pretties as i thought i would. we went to Jimmy John's for dinner, Ben&Jerry's for dessert, and then saw 2's rant which was awesome. then a bunch of horrible drama things happened, i took an hour-long shower while people were at the Zoo, and then Syn made me feel better and we passes out. Saturday i stayed in bed in the room til 2pm because nightmares about the previously mentioned drama left me feeling very sick to my stomach. but then i went to lunch at this cool pizza place with Fluff and Mike, and we went back to the room to hang out for a bit before going out to Hard Rock with a group for Syn and Neo's anniversary. that was really cool (i adore Hard Rock) with good food and cool people, and i got a souvenir/tshirt. later on, we went to pester Lisky and Lady, and Scappo and Neko were there too, which was cool. and the Syn and i gigglefitted til we went to sleep. Sunday was fun of sads because we had to say goodbye to everyone (and hi AND bye to Skech, cuz i hadn't gotten to meet him earlier) and head out, and poor Syn was in a wheelchair because her legs were hating her. several hours later, i was back home and we were eating the best buffalo wings ever with Creeper and Tanith, who couldn't make it to AC this year. then even SADDER because i had to say bye to Syn and Neo T.T *tears*
i then went to a friend's house with Tanith to catch the end of her bday party, got home, and proceeded to sleep for 14 hours until 7pm today >.> i hope i was just tired and don't have Con Crud >.< but overall, it was a very fun con and i got to meet and hang out with a lot of really awesome people. which was...well....really awesome, since i didn't think i'd be able to make it at all.
now, i have 4 short days, and then it will be my birthday on the 13th and i will be 22! i feel like i've been 21 forever, eesh. though i guess none of it matters when you don't drink, since that's the big special thing about that age >.< but anyway, i'll probably be pretty afk-ish for the next week while i visit with friends and give them the things i bought them at AC, and then try to find things to do for my birthday. i hope anyone that went to AC had an awesome time, and that everyone else is enjoying their summer....or winter i guess. silly southern hemisphere.

this is just a heads up that, because of some things that happened friday and saturday, i might be a bit slow to get work done for a bit, and might not be streaming much for some undetermined period of time. just so you know. it involves a lot of complicated emotions and some horrible events. i'll still be working, if slowly, but i wanted to give my commissioners the notice.

Comms Closed/Thank You/Going to AC!

as of just now, my commissions are closed! thank you so much to everyone who ordered one (or more) from me this time around!! because of your awesomeness, i can now fully afford school in the fall AND AnthroCon this year!! so that is super exciting! now i just have to worry about the spring semester, but that's already getting a small start because of these commissions, too! so the goal for this batch of commissions is to have them finished by the time school starts in the fall (september 3rd). i've gotten 4 of them done now, and with a bit of luck i'll get 2 more finished today! so we're off to a good start and hopefully it will continue!! so this is the "get Nix to School" fund, and also the "get Nix to AnthroCon" fund! if you look to the bottom of my Journal at the Footer, you'll see three "Savings" ratios. my goal here is to fill the "Fall Tuition" one, as well as the "AC/Con" one. though of course school is more important and will be filled first!
so i'm opening 20 slots! i want to make as many people happy as possible with what i open for, while still hopefully reaching my monetary goal. but there WILL be slots. it will NOT be an "unlimited" opening like i did after christmas. you're welcome to order more than one commission, as long as you fill out a separate form for each new commission. and as long as you can make at least half the total payment within 48 hours, etc. all that fun stuff that's in my Terms of Service.

i know a lot of you are waiting for commissions to open o.o well i now have a rough plan set down that i can tell you! if you look up to my Commission Queue in my journal header, you should see that i have three commissions started (they're the purple ones on the left), and then four others. i'll be opening commissions when the three i've already started are finished. i'm guessing this to be in 3-5 days, so by the weekend, if not sooner. i'm not going to give you a time for opening though, and only two of those commissions will be posted because the third is Private. so if you REALLY want a slot, you'll have to keep an eye on my submissions and my queue, and then it will be shortly after the third commission is finished. ...or several hours later if it's late and i go to sleep. but you get the idea.

Posted 12 years agoi'm really curious so i made a completely anonymous poll to see what people think about my prices. look at my prices and take a stroll through my gallery and check the answer on the poll that you think works best as a general feeling. "just about right", "too high", or "too low". note that "too high" does not mean "too much for you to spend". this is all based on how much you think the art with worth, what it's value is. (i know art prices get high and that a lot of people can't afford it. -i- can't afford it. but i still think it's worth it)
this does not mean that i will be changing my prices any time soon. i will not be lowering them (ever), and not raising them at all any time soon. i'm purely just curious about what people think.

so here's what's happening. i reallyreallyrealyreallyreally want to make it to AnthroCon this year. and i have some friends who reallyreallyreallyreallyreally want me to make it to AnthroCon this year. but right now...i can't. there's no way. cuz i need money for school MORE than all that. i need about $1000 left for the fall semester, and then another big chunk to stay there through spring to graduate (yes, graduate. so excited. it's just a business associates from a so-so community college, but still!). so i can't just say "screw it" and go to AC anyway, because school is top priority.
i want to see if i can make enough money to pay for the fall semester AND AnthroCon in a small(ish) amount of time. so about...$1500. and then after that i can worry about the spring semester. maybe i'll actually have a job by then. anyway, i'm thinking about doing something like i did around christmas where i took a bunch of commissions and then set a deadline for myself to have them finished by the time April started. i was successful with that, but it was very stressful and i told my friends not to let me do it again. i am now making the excuse that i was in school then, so summer will be less stressful XP OR something like another Iron Artist, but fewer pictures in "batches"
so i'm looking for batches and deals and plans that i can make to get me this money. i know I personally like drawing one- or two-character pictures with minimal backgrounds and at least SOME idea/guidance from the commissioner (not completely free reign for me), and there would have to be a lot of more expensive things (CellShaded/FullColor/RefSheets/Etc) to make this goal happen. i'm also working on some ACEO originals and prints that i can sell, as well as prints of already-made images.
but what i want to know if what do YOU want? what kind of commissions are YOU all interested in ordering? this link has all of my commission information, prices, and examples with the exception of the big expensive lineless things like this, which are crazy detailed and start at $120. if you're interested in helping and commissioning me next time i open (or, y'know, if you can't commission me or aren't planning to, but still have ideas), i would really appreciate feedback! ^_^ it'll help me figure out exactly what i should do and what i should open for, how many slots of what type, etc!
just a note that Sales and the like probably won't work here because that actually gets me less money and more work
this will, of course, be AFTER i make good progress on my current commission queue, as i still have a few people waiting and i don't want them to wait any longer! so there's a still a small bit of time to gather info/feedback and plan! (also i'm REALLY sorry to you guys waiting T.T)

FA I NEED HELP - 5 COMMISSIONS CLOSED
Posted 12 years agohi guys. umm. i haven't finished my last three commissions, but my money is draining away. the DMV just took $100 and i owe my CPA another $100. and......pretty soon i'll have no money at all and i need a few thousand to go to school in the fall. oh, and eat. eating is good too i guess. so i'm going to open a few commissions and try to power through the old ones AND the new ones. it's summer so in theory i'll be able to do that. i'm just so stressed right now. i'm looking for a job, but i need money and i need things (like Art!) to fill my time so i don't freak out too much. help?

here's the story. i think artists who make and sell prints and art cards/ACEOs (you can google what those are if you don't know) and the like are really cool, and it's a thing that i really want to do. i also want to start being able to sell things at Cons, and having prints would help with that.
so what would YOU like to see from me as a print/ACEO??? whether or not you can actually buy them, i'd still like to hear your opinions on what would be popular/grab attention. so pleaseplease take a look through my galleries and link me some examples! or suggest new things! or both! both is cool too! and if your suggestions are things that i've done as commissions, i am totally willing to ask the commissioner's permission to sell prints, as per my ToS!

i took my last finals yesterday and i am now on summer break! yaaayy! this means more time, more art, more fun, and hopefully finally learning to drive even though i'm too poor to get a car. it sadly does not mean AC cuz i won't be making it there this year for that same "poor" reason....sadness. but still. yaaaayy!
i am now offering Chibis as commissions! i've made a new price sheet for them, to go with the old price sheet for normal-style commissions. so that's a cool thing. you can find them both linked on my Price List journal. you can also read about other recent updates at this journal here so if you haven't done that, you should do that too.
i also really really really wanted to apologize SO SO much to those waiting on commissions from last month (i think there are three of you. i'm sorryyyy!). i don't know how i've been so busy, but time has just not been my friend. i'm definitely thinking about you and trying to find time and ideas and such to get your pictures done. and to those waiting on commissions to OPEN, i'm very sorry to you all as well! i wanted to be open at the beginning of May, but i can't open until i get that previous batch done and...clearly i haven't done that. so i'm very sorry for making you all wait, and i hope you're still interested for summer commissions soon! UPDATES: payment methods, extra fees/privacy, ToS

normal commissions should be open again soonish, so i wanted to inform you all of some changes!
Payment Methods: I am now going to be using Paypal invoices instead of normal payment. I am still going to be allowing "half now/half later" payments, so it's a little weird, and this is how it will work. after i "okay" your commission via email, i'll send two invoices to your provided paypal address. one will be for half the payment, and will be due within 48 hours. the other will not have a due date, and must be paid before i'll send you you finished commission. you can pay them both at once if you'd like, but if you do not pay the first within 48 hours, i'll retract both and drop your commission. this is a much more reliable and safe form of payment, even if the way i do it will be a little confusing >.>
Extra Fees/Privacy: there will be a 30% extra fee the keep a commission Private. this ONLY applies if i am not allowed to post the commission anywhere at all, use it for anything, etc. it hurts my business to not be able to "advertize" these works that could turn out to be very good and different from the norm. the does NOT apply to things like gifts, where i wait for your "okay" to post the picture, since it still gets posted. another option it does NOT apply to is posting the picture but keeping the commissioner anonymous. this would mean that i just don't put your name anywhere in the submission/description/etc.
Terms of Service (ToS): all of these updates have been included in my ToS, as well as a few other minor updates, so make sure you check that over for anything that might be of interest to you, whether or not you've read it before. you can find it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2093581/

normal commissions should be open again soonish, so i wanted to inform you all of some changes!
Payment Methods: I am now going to be using Paypal invoices instead of normal payment. I am still going to be allowing "half now/half later" payments, so it's a little weird, and this is how it will work. after i "okay" your commission via email, i'll send two invoices to your provided paypal address. one will be for half the payment, and will be due within 48 hours. the other will not have a due date, and must be paid before i'll send you you finished commission. you can pay them both at once if you'd like, but if you do not pay the first within 48 hours, i'll retract both and drop your commission. this is a much more reliable and safe form of payment, even if the way i do it will be a little confusing >.>
Extra Fees/Privacy: there will be a 30% extra fee the keep a commission Private. this ONLY applies if i am not allowed to post the commission anywhere at all, use it for anything, etc. it hurts my business to not be able to "advertize" these works that could turn out to be very good and different from the norm. the does NOT apply to things like gifts, where i wait for your "okay" to post the picture, since it still gets posted. another option it does NOT apply to is posting the picture but keeping the commissioner anonymous. this would mean that i just don't put your name anywhere in the submission/description/etc.
Terms of Service (ToS): all of these updates have been included in my ToS, as well as a few other minor updates, so make sure you check that over for anything that might be of interest to you, whether or not you've read it before. you can find it here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/2093581/

i would just like to say: no one ever let me take that many commissions at one time ever again x.x thank you so much to all those who took advantage of my after-christmas sale back in december, and a second thank you for being so patient while i work through them. i think i started out with like 36 commissions in my queue and i had a huge art block/slump/burnout in the middle there, so thanks for sticking with me through it. it was a terrible time in the middle there, and i feel awful for being so unproductive when you could've all had your pictures by now.
that said, i'm going to work the rest of this chronologically.

right now, i'm on spring break, and will be until April 1st. in that time, i have social plans, family plans, and easter to attend to. i plan on getting finished with all the rest of my current commissions (my goal is still to finish by March 31st), as well as all trades i have going on right now. so that's the next week and a half. oh! i'm also starting a new diet where i cut ~95% of all sugarfood/junkfood out of my diet! because i've been eating way too much lately. sooo...that will be fun (not). i'll probably sugar withdrawal and be reallyreally bitchy for a bit. i'm not even just saying that to be funny. it's a thing that happens to me. so that will go on until further notice because i really want to be healthy and lose a few pounds (i get no more yummy european chocolate *CRYFACE*)
APRIL
April is my break month...well, kind of. i'm taking a break from commissions so that i can work on my personal projects, plans, and relaxation. i also don't want to have to stress about commissions because i want to focus on organizing the Artist Alley for UBcon with orlalil now that it's getting closer and things will start getting really confusing and hectic. i might offer those in-stream commissions if i really need money or get bored (or both. bored happens a lot, and i'm broke XP). but other than those, April will be full of personal art on my nix account.

Anthrocon. i don't think i'm going. i'd really like to, but everything about it is being confusing and uncertain right now, from money to people to time, and i really just don't want to deal with all that. it's a pain. if something happens and i'm magically able to go, it would be awesome(!), but i don't see it happening. i also really need a job so i have to get on the ball with that now that it's spring *crosses fingers and HOPESHOPESHOPES* my birthday! is also in July! the 13th to be exact. so...yay i guess, even though i probably won't have plans XP

i'm back from FE, had a lot of fun, but i feel like i didn't sleep all weekend (i DID...kinda...but i feel like i didn't). got to meet and talk to a lot of people and stuff, andd.....yeah. i guess. i'm really derp lately, so i'm just going to leave it at that.
as for those little busts i did: the internet in hour hotel was free in the lobby, but $15 a day in the rooms. sooooo we didn't get that. i got some nice photos of the busts, but i didn't get a chance to get them off the memory card and upload them, so i'll be getting them on FA for y'all just as soon as Tanith emails the photos to me. they're cute. i hope you like them when you see them.
oh, i also got a CaltroSketch at FE! that was really cool! i have waited so looooong!! aaaaand that's the only arts i got, cuz i'm broke XP *flop*

Posted 12 years agoi'll be at Furnal Equinox in Toronto this weekend. yups. *nod* i'm only really going to help out a friend with a project for school/keep her company, but i figured it was a good excuse, didn't know til last week. i don't think we're staying in the con hotel cuz we found a better deal, and we should be there friday sometime after 5pm. no plans though. i plan on being pretty low-key and elusive all weekend...

i haven't used it since thursday night, but it might have fallen out of my bag when i reached in for something. i've been so many places since then, and if it's not at my friend's house, in SARPA, or hiding somewhere in my house, i'm fucked. i just fucking bought a new one in MAY! it was brand new! x.x *headbashes, over and over and over and over*
