Computer Upgrade
General | Posted 15 years ago- Get new graphics card as present from parents for B-day
- Order from Newegg, UPS takes two extra days to deliver it. One due to backlog from recent weather snafus, one from "EMERGENCY CONDITIONS BEYOND UPS' CONTROL / UPS INTERNAL ACTIVITY".
-Unpack card, find that it needs two 6-pin PCI-E power cables to power it, and I lack the spare 4-pin connections for the adapters.
-FFFFFFFFF!
-Order 6-pin PCI-E power cables, pay $8 for cables, $20 for next day shipping.
-Next day is Sunday, FedEx doesn't ship on Sunday.
-Day after that is Monday, also President's day. Apartment Complex's front office is closed on president's day.
-Delivery truck can't be arsed to deliver the complex's deliveries to each apartment.
-Get cables the next day.
-Computer now refuses to start.

TF2 holiday update
General | Posted 15 years agoReview of the weapons I've tried so far:
Medic crossbow: Heals allies around you and does more damage/healing the longer the shot. Not good for close quarters defense, but I'll use this constantly as I can actually hit people with it.
Medic saw: Standard UberSaw, but it creates a healing aura around you when you taunt. The aura is pretty large too.
Loch 'n Load (Demo grenade launcher): The direct hit for Demomen. Grenades only go off when they hit enemies, and you only get two shots, but they go faster and hit harder.
Demo melee grenade: Yes, it does go off when you hit someone, doing about half damage to yourself. However, it one-shots low health classes and is hilarious with the Targe. You can also keep swinging away with it like the bottle after it explodes.
The Brass Beast: New minigun, takes longer to spin up, and makes you slower than molasses when used, but hits like a truck. It also has brand new sound effects that are fucking awesome.

New Laptop!
General | Posted 15 years ago*brushes the dust off the journal expecting maybe two people to read it anyways*
I have had three laptops during my college career. The first one was an old Thinkpad. It was my only computer so it suffered from heavy, HEAVY use for the first four out it's five years of life, and while it wasn't the fastest or prettiest laptop around, it was nigh indestructible. I survived my dorm room for three of those years, which may not sound like much until I explain it. See, I go to school in Lubbock, Texas. Lubbock is in the middle of a very flat region where the wind often picks up, picking up dust from millions of acres that are still recovering from the desertification of the great Dust Bowl, and add it to the dust carried over from New Mexico. The dorm I lived in had no AC, only heating for the winter, which wasn't bad temperature wise, as long as I kept my windows open to get every bit of breeze I could. My room was about the most perfect dust storm trap I could imagine, and I left my windows open more than once during an outright dust storm. Just remember, in Lubbock, you're just as likely to get snow as you are to get snud (snow-mud).
And my Thinkpad didn't even notice. It chugged right on through that.
The thing literally died of obsolescence. The tiny little hard drive died in it and it was for a format that no one made any more, meaning I would have had to pay about $300 for a new laptop hard drive.
So, my parents got me a $600 Dell. It was nice, crisp, quick little machine, perhaps a bit awkward in a backpack due to the fact it's screen was designed for a 16:9 ratio, but nothing problematic. The only complaints I had about it was that the power cord slipped out too easily, and the touchpad was often finicky. Oh, and the case was made out of cheap plastic. The thing started falling apart within a year with the case around the bottom corners of the screen, right next to the hinges, were falling apart. Basically, the laptop was on the road to bricking for a reason completely unrelated to it's computing ability, it was only a matter of time before the screen completely fell off.
Luckily, the case never got to that point. Today, I got my brand new laptop, a T510 Lenovo Thinkpad. I'm already in love with it and hope it is half as touch as my original R50p. Oh, and I kid you not, it cost a total of $1337.

Blargh...*dies*
General | Posted 16 years agoNote to self: lay off the liquor. I got drunk enough last night that my method of walking was "bounce off of walls in the general direction." I was feeling pretty good, but thought that it would be a good idea to go to sleep so I wouldn't be tempted not to drink more.
30 minutes later, I come to in front of my toilet with my roomie asking if I was ok. I tell him that I can't move without throwing up, and my body obliges with a demonstration.
No hangover, but I'm queasy enough to want to crawl up into a little ball and go back to sleep, but I gotta clean so the stench of my vomit won't keep me awake.
Moral of the story: No matter how delicious the green stuff your friend brings over is, don't drink it, and don't mix it with some bubbly. Then, after that, don't chase it down with a couple glasses of rum and coke...

Things that go *bump* in the night
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, yea, I think I'm nocturnal now...
Last week, my smoke detector started beeping due to a low battery warning. And by beeping, I mean it sounded like someone beating to metal pipes together right next to my ear every thirty seconds.
Now, I would have replaced the 9V battery myself if it weren't for 3 things:
1) I had faith in my apartment complex's maintenance staff.
2) When I pulled down the smoke detector from the mount, I saw it was plugged into the ceiling, so I thought it didn't have a backup 9V in it.
3) I didn't have any 9V batteries myself, or any time or money to get some.
So, yea, after being unable to sleep for 2 days, I now can't go to sleep before 8 AM.

A Nerd's experience with NuTrek
General | Posted 16 years agoWell, I went and saw the new Star Trek movie the other day, expecting much rage and ranting as I watched it. In reality, I was pleasantly surprised. I still wanted to kill my room mate for making me laugh so much during the movie.
Good: The acting was wonderful throughout. Sylar from Heroes played a perfect young Spock, and it turns out that Kirk is a genuinely likable character when not played by a big ham like Shatner (though, to be fair, Shatner was supposed to be an arrogant ass back in those days). Also, Leonard Nimoy was downright awesome. I still say, however, the best characters were Dr. "Bones" McCoy and Scotty. The story was great, and was barely even hindered by the standard Star Trek brainfarts that annoy nerds. Also, the CGI, especially with the modernized representations of Federation ships, was fucking awesome. It's a shame there were no prolonged engagements between fleets because when a Federation vessel opens up, it looks a lot more like a battleship spewing high energy hate instead of the polite and genteel "pew pew" of classic Star Trek.
Um?: There were a few bits of weirdness. Seriously, Spock+Uhura? Also, Kirk going from a cadet on Academic Suspension to First Mate to Captain in less than a week seems a bit strange. Kirk getting stranded on Hoth was kinda funny though. Also, they played some of the jokes a bit too long, but never actually long enough for them to wear thin.
Bad: Only a few strange bits of nonsense. As an engineering student, I still rage at the Enterprise being built on the Earth's surface for two reasons: 1) Despite the fact that 95% of the Star Trek continuity has been re-written now (alternate universe, bla bla bla), "Enterprise" wasn't, and in the first episode of "Enterprise", Archer flew the first Enterprise out of an orbital spacedock. 2) It's the wrong shape! Being built on the Earth's surface would put too much stress on the supports between the engines, the center tube, and the center tube and the disk. Also, the final scene where the Enterprise escapes from a black hole. I would go further into this bit of "WTF?", but it would ruin too much of the storyline if I told you how the Enterprise got there. Also, how did the Enterprise catch up with the big bad's ship if Spock initially sent it going the wrong way?

More word porn, insomnia, and finals.
General | Posted 16 years agoSo, I have an early final this morning. So early that I can't trust myself to wake up for it, but so painfully easy there's no point in worrying about it. So, what's my solution?
Stay up all night to make sure I don't sleep through it.
Anyways, enjoying my insomnia, I need something to do. I see
radiet pop up on IM and I start talking to her and browsing some of her recent favorites and I get ideas. With her encouragement, I spent about 4 hours writing word porn. There is no better encouragement than the subject of your erotica telling you that they just came reading the draft you sent them.
So, now, hopefully, I'm falling back into the rut of turning stuff into fun and arousing textual adventures. I hope that's true, because I'm backed up.
Word Porn I feel obliged to write:
-The end to the CM&PP series, plus certain edits, for
akira666.
-An enslavement, transformation, and perhaps violent "romance" for the loyal
adora.
-Finally, something awesome for the shy but excellent writer that is
trashmouse, partly because I asked if she would want to be in a cockvore story, but I ended up writing one for
radiet before she could reply.
Journal written for
akira666 because she hates it when my journals become old and stale.

Removed By User?
General | Posted 17 years agoOk, I can understand how someone can remove their own works. It's an understandable feature if an artist wants to remove a piece of art due to whatever reason (fixed an error, newer version, fit of drama), but how does one remove a watch by user? Does that mean I have one less person watching me?

What's in the works
General | Posted 17 years agoWell, thanks for the positive feedback people. I think I've got more then enough to keep me going for a while.
The list of who's got what coming to them:
Akira666 -I'm currently writing one more story in the "Chocolate Mutt and Plastic Pussy" series.
SourIstas -A herm bunny has an accident in the chemistry lab.
Adora -A lovely cow that I've been RP-ing with during the last few days. When I finally do write and post a story based of what I've done to her, it's gonna ruin any chance of me earning a reputation for making fun and silly word-porn.
Zuke -Wants me to do something with goo and slime girls. I'll try to fit some in somewhere, but it will probably be a while before I can do a whole story around goo girls.
And lastly: Any ideas that I have floating around in my head.

General | Posted 17 years agoDear awesome people who watch me:
Do any of y'all have ideas for stories that you want me to write? I'm currently working on the finisher for the series I did/am doing for
Akira666, and I was just wondering if anyone has any ideas that they want me to write for them.

Stories?
General | Posted 18 years agoWhelp, I think I finally got enough people watching me that some of you might actually notice my rantings and read what I have to say.
All of you that have watched me probably did it because they liked my writing, or at least I like to tell myself that. Well, after writing If You Desire, part 4, I'm kinda stuck on that storyline. I mean, I want to continue, and I have a lot of ideas how to do so, but they don't seem to fit exactly right. Some ideas seem nice, but they don't work out with the characters I have, and introducing a new character would probably end up being too much of a mess. Other ideas also seem nice, but I'm a bit of a stickler for stuff like a world's lore and continuity, and these idea would either make a mess of things, or just be a pain to figure out the backstory and such for them. I'm just stuck with If You Desire, and honestly the series feels just a tad stale from working on it for so long.
I guess what I'm saying is that I need a new storyline to work on. New characters, new world (maybe), new plot, just something new to work on. I'm an engineering major, and I really need something to keep my creative juices flowing while I work on math problem after math problem. Right now I'm open for any ideas y'all have, as nothing I've got really seems like something I could turn into a good story. I'll get back to If You Desire eventually, but right now I just want to take a break.
