Temple of Doom-- a theory.
Posted 11 years agoHello there folks :D
for this journal I decided to do something I always wanted to talk about, a theory on some of the things in Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom.
Its something you either like or despise. Its pretty flat compared to Raiders of the Lost Ark and Last Crusade, but is more memorable than Crystal Skull.
Its been slandered for being a bit...well racist to Indian people. In fact the Indian government didn't allow the film to be shot in India and demanded changes to the script. So the cast and crew went to Sri Lanka instead for the outside footage. Even to this day, the film is banned in India.
Are they true? The answer is yes! Racism when you get down to it is ignorance of a race or culture. This movie is focused on a Hindu cult called the Thuggee but overall treats Hinduism too simplistic--with Shiva being a good god and Kali being an evil goddess. It would take too long to go into detail, so I'll keep it simple--Kali is a demon slayer, which is awesome, but she drank the blood of a demon once and craved for more blood, so she created a group of people called the Thuggee cult and told them to give her more blood. While she was fierce during a time of bloodlust, she then calmed herself when Shiva told her to stop and is regarded as a protector goddess....even if she does wear a necklace of skulls and belt of human arms
So yeah, the simplifying of these two very important Hindu deities really got Indian people annoyed, as well as the infamous dinner scene:
Yummy!
But anyway, the one thing I want to talk about is the Thuggee. Lets talk about them.
The Thuggee were a supposed cult. They may have existed, they might not have. Did they do the whole heart ripping out and lava thing? No, that's silly
What they actually did was dress up as travellers and mingle with merchants. Then one night they would strangle the merchants with garrottes and then chop up their bodies and burry them. Also they would take the merchant's goods and sell them. So they were less an organised cult and more highwaymen.
Did they exist? Maybe...
There is some real debate as to the existence of the Thuggee. Some people believe it was just an excuse that the British Raj made to get rid of Kali worshippers.
But anyway, onto the movie's Thuggee cult, which is not accurate at all. The first theory I have is to do with this sacrifice scene:
WARNING! ITS GORY :O
Yeah......this was painful for some people
The theory is to do with the heart scene. The priest Mola Ram rips out the guy's heart, which means that guy should be dead. So how is he still alive?
Well some people say Mola Ram is using magic. I myself don't think so. I think Mola Ram uses an illusion, its all smoke and mirrors.
Later on he attempts to sacrifice the leading lady Willie, but doesn't tear out her heart but pulls back his hand after saying prayers and seems to be holding something in his hand--like he's holding a beating heart! So that's where my theory comes from.
But of course Mola Ram later tries tearing out Indy's heart at the bridge climax, so...who knows?
Second theory is about the "Blood of the Kali Ma". Its something Mola Ram forces people to drink to make them acolytes. What is it? My theory is that its a drug of some kind that dulls the mind and makes them easy to manipulate. I have no idea why fire clears it though its weird.
Anyway in the end Temple of Doom, a really odd film. Its probably to mean spirited for most people or too insensitive. I like bits of it, I think it does have some great atmosphere moments and some great sets of the temple and palace. They should have had it set in Mexico though, with Aztecs--they're human sacrifices were real and not possible. Though in the end if you're going to cover human sacrifice and a world religion, you need to do it in a thoughtful light.
Its not the worst film ever made, far from it, but.....ehhh.
Also Willie screams.....a lot

In a pickle
Posted 11 years agoI'm in one of those pickles again for what to do with my writing D:
First off I'm stuck on what to title my next chapter of Tales of the Eternals. The basic premise of the story is just some character development, its Shern'aath and Altallo gathering plants and animals for the ship and all seems well, even though the reader does know the ever looming threat of the asteroid collision and the inevitable extinction of the dinosaurs.
Any suggestions for a title would be great .....just nothing silly or gross though please
Second of all I do have another writing project in the works....but I'm unsure about uploading it, cause of the mishmash of Tales of the Eternals and this one....again if only FA had FOLDERS! It would be a tonne easier!
Alas, the world is not that easy....so what do you think oh wise audience? Should I upload them separately or just do it all?

Future Card Buddyfight a review part 2--the other episodes
Posted 11 years agoWelcome my friends to another part of this epic review duel review.
For part 1 see here (http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/5401210/)
Last time we had awesome dragon designs coupled together with Yu-gi-Oh like plot, a Judo practicing protagonist, irresponsible parenting and possible murder of mythical creatures.
Can the next 3 episodes bring anything positive to this series? The answer is......meh, no.
Let's begin:
I'm going to just speed through this review and add anything funny where I can find anything
So last time dear old Gao challenged some blue haired kid after meeting his dragon slave, I mean friend.
Well Gao is trying to assemble a card deck, did I mention this has magic cards? I did? Ok.
Well anyway the dragon, is sitting nearby, Drum, when the Hermione Granger like Kugaru sidles up and tells him he should be smaller.
"Every monster from an alien world knows they have to change their appearance so they don't scare humans while on earth." (oh that's nice calling him a monster).
Drum: "You're just trying to create plush toys of me aren't you?"
Kugaru: "Yeah pretty much and making it easier for the animators to draw you."
So Drum turns into a smaller version of himself which kind of looks very Digimon like or Pokémon like.......and you could get plushies that size D:
Though I don't know why people say he's terrifying, he's cool! He's big and strong, who wouldn't love a big dragon friend?
but anyway, Goa hasn't prepared for the fight, so why did he challenge the blue kid? Because he's an impulsive jerk, that's why!
Luckily his friend Ron Weasly I mean Baku is there to help via Japanese food and snarky behaviour...which makes Drum like him for some reason. After some bad jokes and speed lines, the deck is made and the battle begins!
So apparently this school has a huge arena to hold fights. Kind of like a Roman arena, only without gladiators.
The two players eye each other up whilst the annoying pink haired lady in the flying saucer acts as commentator.
Pink haired lady: "Look at the intensity in his eyes, oh those eyes are so dreamy! We love you Tesuku!"
Sheesh Lady you're talking about a young kid here!
After a couple more poor jokes and a Team Rocket style speech and the battle starts!
And.....Its so boring!
I am not kidding, its just statistics and rules. Its not fun!
Playing a game is fun, watching someone play a game can be fun too....watching a set of bland fictional characters play a game while spewing out rules is not fun.
Its like they took the instruction manual and just animated that. Hermione Granger, er, Kugaru spouts exposition.
Also the animation. The mix smooth looking 3D animation with the stiff 2D animation of the characters typical of anime. This is really jarring, you should never mix 3D with 2D unless if you're absolutely sure they're top notch, example being the ballroom scene in Beauty and the Beast.
Well anyway, to save time--Gao wins, he and the Blue haired kid exchange cards....and end. No connection with Drum and Gao established.
End of pointless episode 2
Episode 3 begins in Gao's home where....oh god.
A demon teaching hip hop? Why? Why Japan? Oh and what on Earth is he wearing?!
more unfunny jokes ensue surrounding food and then its off to school for Gao and his sister. They meet Naburo on the way who is a snarky jerk some more.....if I was in Gao's place I'd smash him on the head and drag him off to the temple pyramid, but that's just me.
Apparently there is a whole class devoted to the subject of this sordid card fight.....no maths or languages or history or science, no nothing useful like that!
So our protagonists go to the class, but Drum is left outside by the crazy glasses professor
"Monsters aren't allowed!"
More racism!
Inside the classroom Gao notices something odd--some banana shaped hair.
This is another character....I can't remember his name despite rewatching this episode a couple of hours ago o_O. As soon as he appears an annoying music track of what sounds like the Harlem Shake starts D:
This guy is annoying and has an annoying voice and has lame dancing D: He starts dancing with the professor and the whole class cheers via flashing coloured lines
All of a sudden Gao wants this guy to be his tutor.....despite the fact he's never met this person and is told that he is not a fighter. The other guy agrees though.....too easily D:
So anyway another fight....joy.
Oh and the other kid has a "Magic world" army
Kugaru: "They're creatures are weaker, but they're magic is strong."
That's a bit of a mixed message there Kugaru. That's like saying, that lady is short but her high heels make her tall. Be more specific.
oh and the demon that teaches dancing is the banana kid's friend and more a friend that Gao and Drum.
So the fight begins and.....wait the banana kid just summon a kangaroo in a leather jacket with a guitar? Weird....but kind of cool.
The demon guy takes to the battle arena and wrestles a dragon that turns into red fireworks.....I just have to ask, what DOES happen to these creatures when they're beaten? Do they die? D:
well anyway the non-moving statue crowd cheer on to save animation costs as another dragon is brutally destroyed....charming.
Naburo the blonde is a jerk some more....and his voice sounds like a woman's. Drum takes to the battlefield and then Gao wins.....I know I'm probably skipping ahead but he uses a death hammer thing and wins.
Now if I were in the arena the battle would be over in 2 seconds.
Banana kid: "Yo yo yo, chicci chicci-"
*insert flying spear here hitting him in squarely in the chest*
Banana kid: "a-brrruk! Urk! Gargle!"
*crowd gasps*
Kugaru: "OMG! What world was that from?!"
James: "Ahahahah! Victory is mine!"
Oh but that wouldn't happen with Gao. He, banana kid and the demon make friends......and abuses Drum :o
Bye bye episode 3.....onto No.4 now.
Last episode I'm going to talk about now
Ok this one begins with Gao arguing with Drum...and Drum leaving. Good call Drum!
After the intro we see Gao's class getting a new student....the turquoise kid from episode one. Of course this kid sees Gao and begins fanboying in front of the whole class, including a snarky blonde idiot next to him. like you do! And they reuse some animation.
Meanwhile Drum grumbles....you know you could go back to being huge and just go find another human, someone nice and with better hairstyle :p
Later on Gao and the Turquoise hair kid go to a card shop and come across the shop owner and his giant robot slave.....who is a demon.....when he's so clearly a toy robot.
He explains the rules and.....yeah this is pretty much a giant tutorial. Again its like if someone took the manual and just based an animated series around it. Its basically a commercial
So the turquoise kid and the shop manager, who is wearing a ridiculous costume, battle in a giant castle in an aquarium....what? And then it goes from the mall to a green hall thing.....WHY? You going to explain this? No? OK!
The turquoise kid has Danger World (that's still a stupid name) army which includes ogres (no Shrek), an uncool Minotaur and other dragons.....that the dragon world doesn't have.......ok. More like half-a-dragon world.
So more tutorial stuff happens and then something that got on my nerves occurred.
The turquoise kid and an ogre attack a poor dragon and there is blood.....yes blood. This poor creature has felt pain or worst has died from its injuries....that is sick and cruel D: just as cruel as attacking some poor Pokémon or a defenceless animal :o
Well more fighting ensues and then some weird silver haired looking man with a parrot arrives and starts sneering at them and saying winning is the only thing that matters....he's so obviously evil that all he needs is to laugh evilly, talk about darkness and give evil monologues. He's got one right.
Oh and I probably should mention this, in the crowd are cameos of characters from another anime called Vanguard and only one, a pink haired girl, speaks. What's Vanguard about? Card fighting....and its owned by the same company......Shameless advertisement! Oh but don't worry, we may get to that stinker some time soon
Oh and then the bullies from episode one arrive, one says Forever Alone (Did he just quote a meme?!) and Gao beats them up with Drum....why couldn't he let Drum burn them?
The bullies vow revenge
"Next time Gadget, NEXT TIME!"
But anyway Drum and Gao argue about food and everything is fine.....OR IS IT?
At night we see the obviously evil gut talk to an obviously evil....woman?...boy? I don't know, androgynous thing about some photon metal thing in a mine Mt. Fuji.
He transforms into a wilder version of himself and uses a "Dark" set of cards and disaster force and rides off into the moonlight with a Cerberus.....EVIL!
And that's the end.
Verdict? Yes please
there's no hiding the fact that this is a commercial.
As my good friend
skunkbybirth said "All they really prove is that watching a half-hour long commercial is no fun."
The characters are rather dull thus far and I get the suspicion that they most likely won't be developed further.
Some cool looking dragons can't lift this series up from just being meh. Plus its another questionable in morality a bit like Pokémon.
Additionally this is supposedly set in the future and it ranks as one of the silliest looking futures I've seen. Why not break out the skin tight spacesuits, goldfish helmets and shoulder pads while your at it?
Little of the world is explained and just makes the whole thing more confusing.
In the end though its not saying any bad morals to kids or anything like that, its just very boring and nothing new, which is a real pity because they could have really broken the mould and done something new.....but no, it had to be the samey same.
My score still stands at 2 stars out of 5
Not terrible.....but a real bland series.

The recent drama on FA--the Altallo take on it.
Posted 12 years agoOk you all know the drill--some thing has happened on FA, project phoenix, yada yada big mess and annoyance.
My take on it?
well.....
this sort of thing happens a lot on FA. Arguments, conflicting view points or sheer pettiness. Either way this isn't really new, but still I understand why people are annoyed and leaving.
I'm not leaving. I'll just say this now, I won't be leaving FA
yes I know this might be crazy to some and yes FA is drama filled and I've had my share of headaches and drama bringers and tears and suffering.....but you know what else? I've made some brilliant friends and you have to struggle through troubles to get to be happy.
That being said I do indeed have a Weasyl:
and I think its a brilliant site that has a great design and great features and is a cut above FA.
Its also a lot more calming than FA. I find it a great place just to be soothed and see the art of others. Plus it has folders! :D
So yeah I'm not leaving. FA has major issues sure and there are some people I would desperately love to get away from. But its my friends I stay for
So going to be on both Weasyl and FA :D

Future Card Buddyfight.....a review D: (response to hype)
Posted 12 years agoHi all and first off a belated welcome to 2014, a positive year as opposed to the negative 2013
I've been busy at university, so haven't had time to do any new year journal.
With that said I decided to discuss about some new phenomenon going on--the anime Future Card Buddy Fighter.....yeah that's one mouthful of a title
I know many of my regular watches would be a bit surprised to see me review an anime, after I said about my dislike for most of the genre. But you know what, sometimes you just have to go in and look at something you might not like....sometimes it may surprise you.
Also this review is for fun
....this did not surprise me. Here's the episode if you want to watch it:
Now I had no idea what to expect going in, all I knew was that it was about some boy and a dragon. And hey, it has dragons in it, which could at least keep my attention.
We open up with some exposition dialogue. This anime is based on a card game....which isn't a very good sign. A great chunk of anime based on games and similar stuff usually tend to be mediocre such as Monster Rancher, or bad and boring like YuGiYo. The only two exceptions I have are Digimon and Pokémon. Digimon has pretty rubbish animation, but some good character development and some cool monsters. The Pokémon anime is just hilarious thanks to Team Rocket who make the series. I always laugh at their motto and the voice performances in English are funny.
The exposition dialogue man tells us that there are children's cards that link Earth to another universe and bring back monsters for children to fight with and I have to pause here. If you had the power to cross a dimension, would you really use it to bring creatures over to fight? Why not use it for something else, such as going across to the other dimension and finding out new stuff. You never know what you could find, like a cure for cancer or secrets of magic. But no, you just have to make little kids dreams of killing other things a reality.
Then we get to see two dragon in some sort of ruined ancient Greek temple. Its the stern farther scolding the rebellious son scenario, but honestly I like these characters. They're designs are good, even though the animation on them is pretty stiff....and no, I'm not going to yell "Bara kawaii!"....if anyone says that I will drag them off to my temp pyramid for some Aztec-style open heart surgery.....GOT IT?
Anyway the dad dragon tells his son that he must choose some human to be the next in line to be king. Why they are so depend on humans is a mystery, why should these dragons care about humans? Also they keep saying the word "buddy" all the time....ok friendship.
After that we get the intro song......I hate it. I don't care if I annoy people who like Jpop, but this song is annoying. I can't get into it.
Its during this song that we're introduced to the main character who has ridiculous hair. He does judo and honestly there's not much to say about him. He's hot-headed and cocky, but that's a trait seen in most other main characters in shows like this.
Also on a funny note one of the lines is "Neverending story" a move I so wish I was watching instead of this and I could just play that song over this title......oh yes......(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7Vf2sDgeu7k).
Ok so afterwards we get an inappropriate image of a blue haired kid driving a police car who then leaves that car and summons a dragon via a card. I just have to ask now, what is with the cards in anime? Why are they so special? They're everywhere, with characters shoving them in your face and saying how awesome they are.
Anyway he flies up to a tall building where some other kid with a robot is. He sets up a...*sigh* "Buddy Police Barrier"....god that sounds stupid and they shout at each other.
And then they fight. In these types of anime there is a lot of fighting...a lot. Fighting, fighting, fighting, fighting. Whether it be animal cruelty in Pokémon or taking a card game way too seriously.
Now in Digimon it makes sense that there is fighting, its a dangerous world full of predators and things wanting to kill the main characters.
Here its more along the lines of Pokémon--send another living creature in to fight for entertainment. In most countries this would be considered animal cruelty. In Buddyfight its just as bad as Pokémon since you send a sentient being to fight something. That's like me picking a random commenter and telling them to fight an enormous creature D:
I don't even get battles like this. The protagonist usually just stands to the side and does nothing while something else does all the work.
Now I'd probably do something different, such as.....
What James would do here
Generic anime character (GAC for short): "I challenge you to a fight, because it is my destiny" *insert pose here and holds up a card* "Behold, the mega ultra goodie good card. This will give my pet dragon the ability to--
James: "AHHHHHHHHH!" *slices with a short but mighty Celtic sword, cutting down the GAC with ease* "Well that was easy!"
But because we don't live in that reality, the blue haired kid gets some advice from some organisation who look kind of evil and then uses a giant death hammer and the 2 opponents he faces disappear.....great kid, now you are a double murderer!
Next we see the dragon dude using some sort of crystal-bubble video at all the kids he can choose from....and note how they're all white/Japanese (they look white) and they look well off. I bring this up because it seems odd that out of all, ALL the children in the world, he picks one of these ones. You know I think there could be some poor little children in some sad parts of the world who would love a friend instead of fighting....but no he goes for some generic person.
We then meet our main character from the opening song, his name is Gao. He's a headstrong boy who wants to get a rare monster and be cool.....just like how Ash wanted to be the very best. He's a basic stock character, not much else to him. The only other thing I can say is that his mum is a judo teacher in a very stereotypical Japanese setting.
Oh and he saves some dweeby turquoise haired kid from some of the most unthreatening bullies ever.
This is an example of what I call a "sunset scene" which is common in many anime. Its usually set in a place during a sunset or late noon and usually leads to character development.....depending on what type it is.
And the dragon is grumpy because the kid uses self-defence, whilst the turquoise haired kid fanboys about how great he is and then the Gao threatens the bullies....honestly this part is a little boring.
Oh and then Gao is late for training and is punished by his mum. Of course.
The next day Gao is on an elevator smarting from yesterday and meets up with two friends, Ron Weasly and Hermione Granger.....oh wait sorry, I mean Kugaru and Baku, such memorable names.
Well Kuguaru is a bit like Hermione, smart and supportive and spouting plot points, Baku is.....there. The only thing I can say about him is that he's always got something in his mouth. On the elevator its a lollipop thing, later its ramen. Why is this? ....I have no idea. Oh and he and Gao argue and have Over the top expressions, cause that's funny ain't it? Huh huh huh!....no its really not funny.
They chat about abducted poor mythical creatures and forcing them to fight. Apparently there 3 worlds to choose from:
-dragon world
-magic world
-danger world
.....they have a world named danger world. Well that makes no sense! What is more dangerous than dragons or magic that could turn wild? Why not just have it all in one fantasy world?
Well anyway they enter a mall or something and I'm going to warn all my dragon friends out there.
The next scene has a lot of dialogue that is insulting to dragons. I'm sorry
So they go into the mall and are chatting when some blonde haired person on a second floor starts sneering at them:
Gao: "Dragons are the only way, trust me"
Blonde kid: "Hah! You like dragons huh?
Gao: Huh? Naboru? (oh great another character to remember)
Naboru: "They're ok, but dragon knights are way cooler. Dragons are nothing without their masters." (ouch!)
Gao: "What is a dragon knight?"
Kugaru: "They're humans who ride the backs of dragons and fight alongside them."
Naboru: "Dragons are just dim-witted monsters that couldn't even find their own tails without being ordered to be a dragon knight
....Jesus. This blonde is a douche! Also nevermind the fact they are in a public area and they're some distance away so would have to use raised voices. Wouldn't they get awkward stares?
Alright, so we kind of have our basic roles:
Gao= Hot headed protagonist
Kugaru= Hermione Granger
Baku= supportive weirdo
Naboru= Draco Malfoy dragon racist.
Of course the dragon dude is angry at Naboru, who wouldn't be? The guy has an annoying voice and dumb looking hair. I want to smash his face with a maccana! And worst of all Gao agrees with him!
Anyway, they go to a classroom where the teacher tells them to write essays based on Buddyfight cards and making characters from them. That's not an essay, that's a fan fiction.
Naboru Malfoy boasts about getting something good (its just a card, shut up. If you were in my school, you would have been punched in the face--Scottish schools hate show offs)
But Gao gets a glowing card, so he's special....woo! It flies away and he follows it outside via a giant slide and---WAIT A MINUTE!
That school has a giant slide? W-why couldn't my school have a giant slide?! I would have gone on it time and time again .
Well that aside, the evil cooperation headed by some creepy creep in a chair with creepy creep glasses....yuck, well he nods to send in someone to see the commotion.
Meanwhile the dragon appears in front of Gao, and he's not a happy reptile! Also Draco Naboru, not satisfied with being anti-dragon on the side-lines, joins him and starts complaining, so Gao delivers a hammy speech about effort. Yay I guess :v
Then the creepy blue haired kid arrives on his poor CGI dragon. Then a new report arrives who is pretty annoying and has crap animation. And she has the dumbest hair in this anime! It defies gravity!
I give her the Most Stupid hair award.
She yells plot exposition about who the blue haired kid, who gives Gao a Pokédex, I mean Digivice, I mean card tray thing, I mean dangerous spinning top, I mean magic box thing that does monster stuff.
There's some awkward staring scenes and "Mouth breathing scenes", which are common in anime and often creepy D:
and then the blue haired kid says:
"Ok see you later!"
But Gao being the utterly friendly person he is, challenges the blue haired weirdo to a fight.
...this is where I got a bit peeved off. This is a sell out. It shoves random action to draw audiences in. Its forced in as a cliff-hanger.
On top of that, it gives the main character a bad interpretation. It just comes across as being a bit of a selfish action. He's just met the blue haired guy and says "Fight me!", that's like punching someone you just met. And on top of that, he's just met the dragon he's sending into battle, that is just harsh! And remember this is the protagonist we have to follow.
I may be reading too much in here, but I don't care, this bugs me. So I'm trying to get it out.
And then we end on a note of creepy stares and silly dialogue and double annoyance--with more of that damned news reporter and a song on a level with Rebecca Black's Friday......GOOD SWEET MERCY! I ended the video as soon as I heard the first lyric
Overall
So in conclusion, how was this.
well....in a word.....generic. Painfully generic. The characters we have seen before and there's nothing added to them.
The animation was ok for anime, not a lot of movement and it goes over the top a lot. The dragon designs are cool, but the humans seem to be vying for who can have the dumbest looking hair, Final Fantasy you have competition!
Voice acting was passable, but the young dragon has got a pretty cool voice, its a voice I can relate to, unlike the screechiness of the Gao's
The main beef for me is of course the fact that its mindless fighting which seems to happen a lot in anime of this genre. Just the thought of transporting creatures from another world to fight for whiney kids is just as bad as the Romans capturing people for the arena.
There's no real connections yet between characters--Gao and the dragon have just met, but I think he should have some consideration. This is a being who has declared him to be your friend, are you going to just push him into the ring so suddenly? Its just wrong.
It also doesn't work as a pure fantasy. I'm not saying all fantasy should be the same, but most fantasy tend to have main themes, examples being:
-Neverending Story: humans loosing their imagination and needing to rediscover it
-The Last Unicorn: mortality and how our myths shape us
-Princess Mononoke: Humanity and nature's cycles
This along with things like Pokémon and Digimon and YuGiYo have themes of friendship.
Though in Digimon's case its genuine, in the others its pretty much forced.
So yeah, another cliché to this is the shoved in friendship theme.
This is why most of these sort of shows fail, its more product placement and more a fanfiction.
This is just the first episode, but sometimes the first episode is the most important--it sets the scene for the show. Some first episodes are great, for example An Unearthly Child, the first ever episode of Doctor Who. This Buddyfight on the other hand is a bit blasé. Maybe it will improve, but I doubt it.
So in a score I give this
2 stars out of 5
Not terrible, but not that good.
Now if you don't mind, I'm going to send anyone who comments on this into meaningless battles! >:D
Muhahaha!

2013 review.
Posted 12 years ago...............it has been rough.
I'm not going to lie or try to sound whiney, but it has been one long haul.
The year began ok for me, but its gone downhill fast.
On FA I've encountered tonnes of new friends and that's a plus side
But also had a false friend and an ex-watcher. This has been the bitter pill. Its been frustrating and sad experience and has left me very cold inside....or at least colder. I've been trying advice from other people and ignore it and climb away from this, but its tough.
Yeah I'm sure people will say "1st world problems" (I wish they wouldn't), but it is tough. Feeling alone can be more devastating than physical beating.
Aside from that its been tough to write and get something onto FA. Its like pushing a boulder up a hill.
And sadly the world has lost a few great lives this year, including Nelson Mandela and Peter O'Toole (Lawrence of Arabia)

Merry Christmas + illness
Posted 12 years agoAh Christmas. Originally the celebration of the birth of Christ, mashed together with Pagan legends and modern commercialism.
Got to love it :D
I wish everyone out there a Merry Christmas and hope you have a wonderful time :D
Over here, its not been jolly D:
I've come down with an illness and have been coughing, dizzy, sneezing and not feeling hungry.
Feeling ill at Christmas is never fun

Thinking of getting a fursona + updates
Posted 12 years agoHi all :D
As many of you know, I usually use the character of Altallo to express myself.
But lately I've been thinking of getting a character that is entirely me, aka a fursona.
I've been wondering on what would make a great fursona.
One of the options I have been thinking of, the one that interests me the most is a West Highland White Terrier. Why? Because:
-they're small, and I'm pretty small IRL
-they're bouncy, happy and playful
-THEY'RE SO CUTE!
I know it may sound cliché for a Scottish person, but I don't care, they're my favourite type of dog, with the Cavalier King Charles spaniel coming second.
So what do you think? I won't do wolves or foxes cause there are too many and I already have a dragon form.
Also another update, I'm thinking of starting some new writing projects :D
Now I really wish FA had folders D: it would be so much easier to separate the works. I'm afraid if I'll upload the different chapters they would all be mishmashed in the gallery and difficult to tell apart :o
Which is a pity because it would make it a lot easier D:

power is back + TMI Friday
Posted 12 years agoWow, that was a nasty series of storm across the UK D: (the worst since the 1950's)
there have been floods and blackouts all over the country. Luckily the storms have passed and they hopefully won't be back for some time :o
Anyways I'm a bit stuck on what to talk about now, so feel free to ask me anything

my power is out :(
Posted 12 years agoThere's been a load of horrendous storms around here and now my power is out and from the looks of it, it'll be a while before its repaired
I'm using a laptop, and have only about an hour and a bit to be on it. And to be honest I don't think I'll be online that much today. Unlike my brother, I can go without internet or a computer for a day (he grows grouchy and morose when he can't go on DOTA 2).
My only complaint is that I can't get writing again without my computer. I write only with my computer because it saves on paper--which I use for practicing drawing or for university study. It's a lot less messy
Also I want to apologise for not making many journals or anything lately. Its been a tiring few months and a bit frustrating too. More drama has occurred with a watcher who basically told me I was racist for not liking Final Fantasy and for not wanting my character in an anime style.
Somehow I don't think disliking Over The Top animated features from Japan is racist...the characters are fictional and are just drawings used by a company to make money. Plus its a bit rich coming from someone who bases every character, design and prose in their gallery on video games....everything. That's just boring and generic.
Its stuff like this which makes me go on my rants about weeaboos and stuff, which I know a few are bored about now....sorry about that D:
It just makes me feel better to open out and talk about these things with other people and see their point of views. And no, this is not trying to bash or attack someone. Though I do question the behaviour of individuals. Why use something from an existing franchise when you can create something new?
Plus why go the route of really bad anime (the bottom of the barrel kind) that treat characters like sex toys? That's just bad....and low.
Ok ok, sorry going on a rant x_X power out is what the main topic was supposed to be.
I hope to get back into the writing phase again, because I really have gone back into a swing occasionally. x_x
I'm using a laptop, and have only about an hour and a bit to be on it. And to be honest I don't think I'll be online that much today. Unlike my brother, I can go without internet or a computer for a day (he grows grouchy and morose when he can't go on DOTA 2).

Computer Broken
Posted 12 years agoMy usually computer is now broken
The hinges that connect the screen with the hard-drive have snapped. Looking at them closely, they're very flimsy, depsite looking strong from the outside. Its a serious design flaw to an otherwise good computer, the hard drive has never been moody or caused any trouble. Unfortunatly this does mean I'll be away for a bit until I can get the hinges repaired and strengthened.
Its beyond repair, but still, frustrating
Oh and ifyou're wondering I'm using an older computer to type this

TMI again and update
Posted 12 years agoHi all
I haven't really been active around my account, just commenting on others art and things.
I am writing again, but my drive has been on and off. I've been feeling down and depressed today, having unwatched a few old artists of mine who have been corrupted by a certain creeper. Its been tough to do this, but necessary, I don't want to see more of this person being worshipped and catered for.
I am feeling sad now, despite a wave of new watchers and friends. I hope this is temporary.
Anyway, moving on
Its Tuesday again, and its time for more questions

FA isn't reallty fun anymore.
Posted 12 years agoI don't know why but I'm starting to feel like the fun and happiness of FA is starting to fade.
FA is starting to not be the much fun anymore. I still enjoy some aspects, but I really wish there was more to FA. The art and writing quality whenever I go to the index is not brilliant. There are great things a times, but a lot of dull stuff too, from the ten millionth cloned MLP characters, dull Pokémon, and bland soulless anime humans. x_x
I'm going to say here of course, but what I would do to see the fandom get its life and vitality back again x_x

James discusses writing and "writing dead ends"
Posted 12 years agoHi all, and welcome to another discussion....which I haven't posted in a LOOONG time D:
I've been wanting to do this for a while now but I've been held up by writing blocks and illness x_x
Writing is tough. I'm not going to lie, but writing is a real chore to do, but its rewarding at the same time.
What makes writing a challenge is creating characters that are compelling and worlds in which the reader can imagine and possibly escape too (after all most media is escapism). Do furry writers do this? Well that's pretty impossible to answer giving the sheer volume of writers on FA
I'm just going to focus on some of the tropes and clichés of bad writing and to point out any good writing examples.
On with the discussion :D
Cliché No.1 The Gay story
This cliché is really really common (mostly with male/male characters) and to be honest is pretty darn boring after a while. I read tonnes of these during my times on SoFurry.....mostly because there was very little else. They varied from ok to bland
What's the premise? Well:
Character No.1 is a nervous wall-flower, closet homosexual
No.1: I'm into other guys but I'm so shy!
Character No.2 is also homosexual and more forceful and is obviously a perfect match for No.1.
No.2: I'm gay and cool. Hey, No.1, lets have sex!
No.1: Gee No.2, I'm not sure.....
No.2 then grabs No.1 and we get a sex scene for eye candy....and quick as that they're together.....you know I don't think that's how true relationships work :o
Side characters No.3, 4, 5 and possibly more: We're all supportive gay friends!
Optional character No.6 (with possible goons): Grrr! Me evil homophobe! Me hate gay people because they are stupidses!
and.....that's really all. There are variations and continuations, but they're not too spectacular.
Ok well the first thing is that its pretty much too perfect. The two main characters instantly click and boom they're together.
Now in some cases its revealed the characters knew each other for a while, which is ok. But I don't think doing it with someone will mean instant love D:
Second problem is the antagonists. Most are just too simplistic. The one exception being the two homophobes in the comic Roommates. They're college students who are more likely to be naïve in the face of relationships and do have a remorse and revelation. They're not straight up villains or evil, they're more like real people.
The same cannot be said with others. Or sometimes there are no homophobes. In these cases there are two routes where the story can go:
-Character development
-gratuitous sex scenes for only mind-candy and nothing else.
Guess which one is better
Now don't get me wrong, I'm not against homosexuality. I'm all for gay and lesbian rights.....but these stories can get a bit repetitive. Some aren't even stories and just exist for the eye candy or word-candy (the written version of eye-candy)
Why anime style and why cruelty? Why?!
yes, anime style stories x_x
will those weeaboos ever learn that life in Japan is not like an anime series?
Now by anime style stories I mean that they take bad elements of anime and stick into a poorly written pile of vomit. Usually includes capturing people, torture, looking up skirts, perverted groping, drooling, exaggerated bodies and all manner of gross stuff.
There are 2 points I want to make:
1. Its cruel. As a friend once pointed out, (
Lurdanjo who is awesome and does some great ideas ) anime can be really meaninglessly cruel. Its just not fun whatsoever and isn't creative. And I have to ask, why? Why be so mean? :o
2. Its unimaginative. Anime isn't that imaginative when you look at it. Just a bunch of gooey eyed, gelled haired characters with doomed destinies and fighting monsters or just being in highschool with giant boobs and being stalked, or god knows what.
I speak directly to people who make this sort of thing......
Why? You're a human. You have imagination, possibly one of the most powerful and fantasic things in the world and you use it on this which is something that's done by low paid Japanese animators who probably are just looking for quick cash and appeal to lowly basement dwellers. You could do so much else.
....I know this might have sounded cheesy, but I really believe people should try and be creative and not be reduced to "fanservice" (god I hate that word.) or screaming desu or baka or other broken Japanese words or thinking Japan is the best country in the world. You do know its a very racist country that thinks anyone that isn't Japanese is inferior? And No they're isn't really a big population of muscular or fat furs in funboshis in Japan...that is fiction. I don't even think Japanese people are into that either D:
(for any newcomer reading this, yes, I don't like anime due to....reasons x_x. I used to be interested, but that interest has been stamped out)
Aside from that there still a lot of cruel, mean spirited stories on FA, mostly derived from crappy 3rd rate anime and porn. Why would you do that? Its gross and not fun at all.
There's nothing wrong with having dark moments in a story, heck I have a lot of dark times in Tales of the Eternals, with creepy atmospheres in the Epithedrial fortress and later on an isolated space station and a few dark themes such as racism and slavery, but being cruel and mean all the time is just horrible and not fun to read.
Writing dead-ends
Now this is a big topic.
You ever seen someone who does the same thing over and over? Like all they do is fat blob furs or TF or vore or something.
In writing I call them dead ends. If all they do is the same thing over and over, its pretty dull. There's never any variation or change to either the writing style or the story itself. I always imagine a goldfish banging against the glass of a tank, they go nowhere.
If you really want to try adding things like Transformation, make the unsuspected, make them a surprise. And try to involve the character more, rather than just:
"Blah blah blah, I am fat now"
or whatever
Good stories out there
Ok so enough of the bad stuff, I'll say I think I comment on good stuff.
The best stories I have seen are in the FBA (Furry Basketball association). Its a collaboration between really skilled writers and really talented writers and has such fantastic characters and environments.
Its also very involving as characters are picked out for teams. Some make it, some don't (though they can try again) and their reactions are realistic and they feel real :o
There's also a lot of varied species presented also, from insects and fish to mammals and birds. Its fantastic to see this much and its a welcome change.
And there's a tonne of poetry and other stories both clean and adult (mostly straight) which goes unnoticed. I think there is some genuinely good stuff out there that needs to be seen.
Overall I think that the fandom is full of clichés. Scenes that are so tried such as creepy vore scenes or fattening and so on. I think we need to break away from these clichés and tropes and try and do something different. There's so much that you can write about.
This has been a James discussion

Decided to delete the art of Altallo
Posted 12 years agoI'm sorry people who faved them, but I really just don't like the art that was done for Altallo.
I appreciate the artist for what he did, but the style was not for me.
It was done in anime style, and I really hate the anime style, especially for humans. Anime characters are just artificial looking and more like dolls than actual people. Big gooey eyes, stiffly animated limbs and mouths, stupid looking hair, etc.
For Altallo I wanted a more realistic look. His hair is reddish brown, he has freckles. He may dress up in bright gold and blue, but with a more realistic and a maybe a bit of a scruffy look--he's wandered all over the Earth after all.
I'm sorry again for people who commented and favourite the two pictures....but its really not the style for me, I'm sorry

I feel odd.
Posted 12 years agoI can't really explain why. I keep making journals and then deleting them instantly and its just....ugh! I'm frustrated.
I think I can narrow it to a few possibilities:
Why? Well:
1. Artist and a friend leaving FA.
Now these 2 things happened a long time ago. One I was aware of when it happened, a kind person who was always willing for a good conversation. He wasn't an artist, but who cares about art when you've got a good, friendly personality?
The other I've learnt about recently. He/She declared they had left FA due to the admins, bullying by users and other such activities. I used to visit their page occasionally on my old account and they were always nice and they had some spectacular art....all gone now.
While these are sad, I do understand their reasons for leaving.....but its also got me pondering, what if this happens in a series and more and more people leave and FA becomes a wasteland? Who will be left? It would be horrible to wake up and go on FA to see everyone gone apart from a few weeaboos or creeps.
I suppose if everyone on FA left aside for a few stragglers, I'd leave too...even though I don't want to. Weasyl is a good site, but a bit lonely and I absolutely refuse to go back to SoFurry.
I really think things need to be improved on FA, its a mess of a site and needs cleaning up and sorting out. Clear out the creeps, nasty weeaboos and trouble starters, burn in them a pit and then smash apart any part that's still left of them and try and make a fairer site that has more active admins--yes they have jobs and such, and that's understandable--but if not responding to a ticket for 5 weeks or so is a bit ridiculous don't you think?
2. Is it me or is the artwork quality of FA declining?
Now let me say--this isn't about every piece of art, you still get a lot of good art....but sometimes when you go to the index you can find a lot of not so brilliant stuff.
This is especially true for MLP and Pokémon art. My GOD, the number of times I've seen a bland, uninspired pony template against a dull background or a horrifying, retina-destroying vore art of Pokémon is just downright depressing.....I though part of the beauty of FA was the VARIETY.
Also adult work is either hit or miss.....a lot of the times though it looks rather crude and gross D: also things for specific themes or interests (in the sick sense) is just,.,,,,EWWWWWW!
*sigh*
the ranting of an Eternal x_x
Get rid of the weeaboos and creeps! Freedom for Furs!

I have returned! :O
Posted 12 years agoFinally, finally back x_X, its nearly 3 in the morning here (our flight was delayed....how typical.)
How you all doing? :D Seems I missed quite a bit on FA.....why does the keyboard feel so odd to type on :o
So how was the trip you may ask?....um.....very mixed bag o_o
Ok, well most of the trip was fantastic :D. Rhodes is a great island and full of fantastic history. It was inhabited by the Minoans (people from Crete) and Greeks, and was conquered by Romans, then Christian Knights of the Order of St John, then by the Ottoman Turks (Turkey has really gone down the drain lately and so has Egypt :o) and was then taken over by Italy before being handed back to the Greeks in 1947.
So we visited all manner of places, including:
-Rhodes Town....yes its a town called Rhodes town....or Rodos to be more precise. There's an old part of it, which is a giant fortress built by the Knights of St. John and was the home of the Ottomans when they invaded. And there's a new part where the Greeks made their new homes after the Ottomans invaded and was later renovated by the Italians.
so....yes lots to see there :O
-A site called Kamerios, which is a huge Ancient Greek city
-A valley full of rivers and springs :D
and so much more :O. Plus I now have colour in my skin :D. I've always been pretty pale, not because I'm a shut-in who lives in a basement (mainly due to the fact I don't have a basement) but because I live in a climate that's usually cloudy and cold....even when the sun is out its cold o_O
....unfortunately it was marred by 2 things:
1. My bedroom at the villa we stayed in was home to a nest of giant spiders....and for those who don't know, I have a fear of spiders
2. I went with my family.....oh good lord it was horrible being with them. All they did was complain. My parents made snide comments about other tourist (especially Americans....they seen to think Americans are all idiots.) and weren't subtle at all about it. And my brother was being his usual self-pitying, grumpy, grouchy self. Never ever ask him for help or for his opinion, he always mumbles everything he says, glowers at everyone and expects you to know everything he wants.....*sigh*.
Ugh....its been a long, long journey.....but for the most part it was ok :)...now I need REST!

Leaving....to Rhodes :O
Posted 12 years agoJust a reminder that I'm going to be off soon to Rhodes in a few hours :o
I won't be back for 3 weeks....ah well, I'll return to loads of new art and stuff! :D
also I'm going to try and get back to reviewing stuff soon...I know I keep saying, but I am trying
I've decided to go back to the board with DrWho reviews. Which means another voting session! :D
Ok, which of the following do you want me to review?:
1. The Keys of Marinus:
-a strange little story where the Doctor needs to find....keys....yes. Oh and there are killer scuba divers and a creepy guy who looks like Hagrid from Harry Potter who (its implied) tries to molest one of the Doctor's female companions. Hagrid, no! How could you?!
Also brains in jars, stock footage of wolves, a pyramid, a sea of acid and a long, looong court drama episode. x_x
2.Warriors of the Deep:
-Reptiles attack an underwater base!
3. The Web planet:
Bugs!
4. Time and the Rani:
The 6th Doctor (the crazy one) gets attacked by the Rani (an evil female Time Lord) and regenerates into the 7th Doctor via a terrible effect. And other stuff happens :p
5. Dimensions in Time:
A charity episode for Children in Need.....but an awful one. Oh and the Rani is in it :P
6. Time Flight:
My least favourite episode ever! D:<
7. The Horns of Nimon
Minotaurs with cardboard heads and platform shoes!
Vote for whichever you want. I'm going now! See you all again soon!

remember how I said I was feeling down?
Posted 12 years agoWell I think I may have cracked down upon why I was feeling a bit depressed:
1. Yiffy Mc. Creep creep users
this a term I use for users who post horrible, lustful, sinister comments and have absolutely no regard for the person they comment on. I admit I had one of these idiots about my page and I blocked him straight away....but it was just horrifying looking back....I mean really, some people need to grow up!
Its ok to have fantasies.....just don't be sinister about it! This series may help to illustrate what I mean:

2. I feel distant
both physically and on the internet, I feel distant. Probably because I'm not into the things that are commonly found around FA and other places of the internet:
-anime-don't like most of it just random, poorly animated nonsense (except Ghibli). That and the male characters can look female, they're pretty vapid looking and its just dull....and constant arguments between weeaboos on FA don't help either :o
-My little Pony is a bore fest for me
-Adventure time is....well I haven't tried it yet
-Gravity falls, doesn't appeal to me (Oh Disney, why make this when you can make Gargoyles again?)
-Rule 34 is, for me, a stupid rule made by people with little imagination. Why does everything need adult themes? Just let the kids have their favourite characters unspoilt and happy.....and get a better imagination while you're at it!
It feels like there's a veil between me and other furs o_o, especially when there are some users around here who are much older than me and are doing the whole Yiffy Mc. Creep Creep routine o_o
And on top of that, I'm beginning to question going to cons. I do want to go sometime....but I'm also nervous about going to one, what I might see there and what people might be like, since I can be a right quiet person
So....yeah that's the gist of things.....*le sigh*

update and not feeling myself. :(
Posted 12 years agoHi all . Sorry for the lack of any new funny journals or much writing progress.
Well, on Tuesday coming up, me and my family are going to Rhodes for a few weeks (its a Greek island for those who don't know). Am I looking forward to it? Sort of. Its exciting to go to a new place and see Ancient Greek ruins (one of my fav. Civilizations)....but there's the issue that I'm going with my family, and I don't know how people will react with:
-2 parents who never keep quiet and keep blurting randomness out loud
-a brother who glowers at everyone and is scary looking
-and me....being timid and quiet o_o
Also I won't have my computer with me, so I won't be around on FA for a bit D:, so if I'm silent, then you'll know why
Aside from that....I've been feeling odd of late. I've been writing some more...but I feel distant and lonely for some reason :(. I feel like I don't belong, as though there is a veil between me and others. I think partially because I'm not very mainstream when it comes to FA, I don't focus on something specific.....not that I'd want to mind you, with some of the gruesome line-up of things you see around FA D:
I don't know, maybe I'm just in a bad mood. I did have an argument with someone recently, but that's not whats causing it I think (seeing as the person in question always moody and very cold at times....except to manga artists--typical)
Ah well, so that's my predicament at the moment D:

I feel like reviewing something :)
Posted 12 years agoBut I'm still unclear about what to do
I'm tempted to return to some DrWho reviews, with lots of jokes and keeping technobabble to a limit, because its not fun with just nerdish spewing.
I'm saying this because its my main comfort spot
So what do you think? Would you be willing to hear me on some of the silliest Who episodes? or something else? :o
