Why do people push "common/standard" methods onto others...
General | Posted 9 years agoI don't usually type rants, but this just got me a tiny bit upset. I understand it wasn't intentional on their part, but it just felt like I was shot down for being different...
This whole situation started in a group conversation on telelgram when I said "how I hope to avoid that process, time to get better at math hehe". The "process" being cutting out shapes and manipulating it to see how it forms physically while fursuit making. And was then pushed by multiple people saying that is a major part in prototyping, and that prototyping is key otherwise I wouldn't know how it will turn out and learn. I defended myself by try to elaborate on my intention of being able to be good enough to purely make a suit out of customer's measurements like a suit tailor. And I was replied with tailor still use paper to draft their pattern.
It was at this point i knew at the back of my head there are misunderstanding between me and the other party, but both of us are so inline to our train of thought that we weren't really gonna stop pushing our opinions on to others. I never mentioned not using paper to create patterns, just that I would like to avoid making multiple fabric prototypes to figure out darts and what not while patterning by using math to safe time. I'm basically "prototyping" a math formula that could help me apply one thing for multiple purposes. But here I got most of them telling me that professional still use dress form, pinning and what not. Like GREAT!, if that's what work for you when you are making suit, splendid, there is nothing wrong with that. I have said nothing of sort that diminish your style of work or anything. Just that it is not the way I would like to approach it in the future and I would like to change that for MYSELF.
One person was telling me that "normal clothing tailor doesn't have to worry about non-human anatomy (digigrade legs for example) so they can use standardized measurement points to create their patterns". Digigrade or not, we are building suit for the human anatomy. We are not physically changing how we walk, but just to gifting the illusion of digigrade legs. Well unless you are making it for a stilt user, but it shouldn't be that much different. These so call "standardized measurement points" are still relevant in fursuit making/patterning. They are usually just major joints and location where one would need to pay attention to the sizing, such as the natural waist, hip, chest, thigh, arm/leg lengths, etc. Are any of these parts missing in an anthropomorphic fursuit? No. There are just more points that are necessary to account for such as thigh and calf circumference to figure out digigrade legs.
If everyone keep shooting down other people that are trying to do something differently, different from the norm. How will we have innovation and make advancement? Just because you might not understand how something works one way, doesn't mean others can't figure it out. We all have different perspective and that's what makes all of us unique.
I'm not forcing my opinion on to any of you that are able to go through this rant. If you can relate, GREAT. If it doesn't, you can voice your opinion if you must, but I might not comment on it just incase of further misunderstand.
Thank you for reading this.

Really tempted to go to MCFC, but I need help D:
General | Posted 10 years agoHey hey everyone,
Had a wonderful time at FE2015 and having a slight PCD right now. :X
I was wondering if you guys know anyone that is driving from Toronto to MCFC and have 1 extra room to give me a lift, I can help pay for gas & etc. And also someone with room for one more in their hotel, I can sleep of the floor, that's no problem for me. In fact I actually kind of like sleeping on the floor as long as I got a comforter. :P
Any help would be highly appreciated. Thanks guys.
