Roxy Upgrade Series Update! It has been cancelled.
Posted 3 years ago[copy/pasted from an edit I made on the submission]
I have decided to close this down due to low donation volume. I'd like to thank those few who donated and got me to a total of $85 toward my goal. Your kindness is appreciated and I'd like you to know that money went to alleviating some bill pressures. I'd also like to thank the rest of you for your enthusiastic voting. It was encouraging to see all the attention this got.
Thank you all, from the bottom of my heart.

How Does One Art Drive?? [[FEEDBACK NEEDED]]
Posted 3 years agoI really need to build up funds for a LOT of shit. Moving, dealing with some credit card debt, etc.
I've got a few months to build up like...$4000-6000 to cover everything? Rough estimate.
Does anyone have suggestions? I had considered doing a series with some slime tentacle goodness where every few hundred dollars bought another shot in the series, but then I realized nobody is into that save for a few souls out there. I've seen a lot of TF drives but I have no idea how that would even work and also I dunno if I'd be able to make that work.
Thoughts and input would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank you, My Voidsent
Posted 4 years agoI just wanted to take a moment and thank those who commented on my "Shouting into the Void" journal. I really appreciate the support and suggestions. I'm definitely still dealing with shit, right now, but I'm working on just keeping my mind occupied until such time as I can put into action any kind of actual plan.
But yeah, thank you all. Honestly. Just thank you <3

Shouting into the Void
Posted 4 years agoSo, I need to just yell into the void right now. I'll probably delete this later, but I needed to outwardly express some shit I'm going through.
It's identity crisis time, folks. I'm having a jolly time, indeed, blazing through confusion on all fronts.
My cultural identity is whacked. I'm half-black-half-white, but, growing up, I was only ever really exposed to the white half of my family because my bio parents broke up when I was two, and biofather was barely in my life until about my mid-20s. I never really jived with the family I was exposed to, and, by the time I was more actively exposed to the other side of my family, I was so distanced from them that I couldn't relate to them. That meant social anxiety kicked in and prevented any opportunity to get to really know them in earnest much less participate in that side of the culture. So, I'm not really sure what the hell I am, culturally. I'm a mixed-race, poc, American. But none of that has any real meaning for me.
My gender identity continues to bother me, but that's really more of a pain of "I don't think I'm trans enough because I haven't been able to do x, y, or z." Pretty basic shit tho it still plagues me.
My sexual identity is basically useless since my sex drive is pretty much deadened. Like, yeah I still get turned on once in a while but as soon as the thought of actual sex crosses my mind, I start going into hyperdrive thinking about what would go wrong. Not to mention the FEW fetishes I have are impossible to fulfill IRL, leaving me with no kinks to speak of while I'm surrounded by people who have all kinds of kinks they get to enjoy. Admittedly not earth shattering but it still hurts...
Anyway, my artistic identity is in question, at the moment, because I can't really bring myself to draw (reliably) outside of commission work. All my passion for creating art for anything other than profit is pretty much gone, and it is ripping me apart. I FULLY regret making art my full-time job when I did. I should have built a lot more of a following before I even began taking commissions. Don't get me twisted, I love the friends I've made in the process of being a commission artist and wouldn't trade them. But what I never realized when I made this my full-time thing is that the process should have been more drawn out (no pun intended) than what I did. Like...
What I did: Finding a job sucks, especially when you can't drive. I need something I can do from home. Oh I know! I'll sell my art! *dives right into commission work*
What I should have done: Suck it up, keep looking for a job. Build an audience by doing art for me/that I'm into. Reach about 10,000+ followers and open a Patreon or start taking a few commissions here and there. Once demand for my commissions goes up or my Patreon matures into a livable monthly income, THEN quit wage-slavery and do the art thing full time.
Now, I'm kinda shitfucked and unable to get it up unless there are dollars being waved in my face. Because of this, none of my financial goals have been reached in 10 years (tho I didn't have any real goals till about 3 or 4 years ago), I can barely draw non-commission work, and even with commission work I'm glacially slow. I wanna start working on a comic series idea I had, but A - I "know" nobody's gonna care cuz I can't write for ass and it's not porn anyway so who the fuck's gonna buy into my stupid indie garbage heap? And B - I don't have the time, even if I had the know-how and the drive. So that's out the fucking window. Bonus C - it's too ambitious a setting. I can't flesh it out without a myriad of problems cropping up for which I have absolutely no good solutions.
This fucking blows. I've basically lost track of who or what the hell I am. I cannot afford any professional help. Read somewhere sometime ago that unchecked depression and anxiety literally causes the brain to start to consume itself over time, so that's fucking wonderful. Also figuring out this year that I probably have ADHD, so navigating that hot mess has been a real sloppy anal blast, too.
Just...fuck a LOT of things.
And rant over.

EMBARRASSMENT TIME! I lost track of comms...
Posted 5 years agoOkay this is fucking humiliating...but PLEASE sound off if you're waiting on a comm from me!
I did some off-book comms cuz I thought "hey these'll be quick fuck it" and so I didn't go through my normal processes to keep everything tracked.
I know I've got one person waiting on a YCH and a few things I handle in private since they're comms for close, inner-circle friends. But, I feel like I'm forgetting some. I just finished one cel-shaded pic the other day (which I'll be posting later) and an ink series. But something's missing...AGHGHGH this is gonna drive me batshit!!
Whoever is still waiting on comms from me PLEASE comment on this and remind me PLEASE!
ADHD is such a pain in the fucking ass I hate it TT _ TT
In the meantime, I gotta open comms back up. I NEED to take some commissions.
So uhhhh I guess keep an eye out for that too.

How This Works and FAQ
Posted 5 years ago1. Can I take your order please? Here's how to order.
-- You Might Be Thinking - "Cool, tell me whassup."-- I Say to You - Why the hell did I format this bit this way? Anyway, here's how do:
-- After you've reviewed my ToS, please assemble all of your order information. This includes, but is not limited to:
--- A full, detailed description.
--- Any and all necessary references.
-- Send an email with your commission idea to orderup@hoagiearts.com.
-- Once we've settled on pricing and details, I'll send you an order form. Submit that form, send those funds, await that art.
2. I'll post a journal or submission saying I'm open. I'm only going to open a few slots at a time so as not to get overloaded.
-- You Might Be Thinking - "But Amara! What happens if you run out of slots? How do you choose who gets in and who doesn't for that set of slots?!"-- Good question! I Say to You - In order to even be considered, you need to email me at orderup@hoagiearts.com. I'll be reviewing requests in the order they are received and making my decisions from there, with early birds taking priority. In other words, first come first considered. For example, if I only open up 2 slots, but I get 5 requests that I approve of, only the first two of those emails will get into those slots. As another example, if I only open up 2 slots, but I get 5 requests and only approve of requests 2, 4 and 5, then 2 and 4 will be slotted. See? (Note: opened slots will be general. I.E. any commission quality level would be accepted there. If I get through commissions quickly and free up before the month is too far gone, I may open up more slots for that month.)
-- Important Note: If you don't get chosen for that given month, don't fret. I'll be replying with reasons why (and it's MOSTLY going to be "hey my slots filled up for this month, sorry"). I am NOT going to be doing wait lists since that's not really fair to anyone involved, and this means that you must email regarding the particular batch of slots you're looking to get in on. Just the most fair way I can come up with to handle things - if other suggestions come up, I may consider those too!
-- Also Important: I'll be including a new keyword with every batch. Include that keyword in your subject line when you send that initial request!
3. Different types of slots will be open as time goes on.
-- You Might Be Thinking - "Whuzzat supposed to mean...?"-- I Say to You - Most of the time, I'll be opening single-image commission slots. Since they're so time consuming, slots for sequences will be opening as their own thing but opening less frequently. Basically, I'll be labeling commission slots if they're anything special such as telegram stickers, sequences, comics, or even animations. If you see no label, it's probably just a single image slot. If you're confused, feel free to ask! I'm always happy to answer.
4. These commissions are separate from my sketch streams, which are held on Sunday (and sometimes Monday) nights. Though, I allow sketches from said streams to be upgraded via this method.
-- You Might Be Thinking - "Upgrade? I can upgrade??"-- I Say to You - Why yes you can! Simply by paying the difference on a given piece, you can upgrade that sketch into any of the other slots you like. For example, say you previously bought a $20 single-character rough sketch. If you'd like to upgrade it to flats, that will cost you $60. It's easy :D
5. Clarification Re: Some of the Below Terminology
-- High Detail: This includes, but is not limited to, things like armor, ornate designs, lots of visible scales, wings, etc.-- MEGA Detail: This includes, but is not limited to, things like mecha, androids, guns, etc.
-- These are generally things that cause me to take a ton of extra time on the piece you've ordered. I apologize for any inconvenience fees like this may cause.
If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to ask here in the comments below.

Please take a look at my price guide
1) Published base prices are subject to change according to the complexity, difficulty, size and/or medium of each individual piece.
2) Clear and concise visual references and/or description of a commission idea must be provided by the Client. After which a preliminary quote will be provided by the Artist.
3) Payments must be made in full within 7 days of invoice before any work is done. Once full payment has cleared, the Client's commission will be added to the Artist's work queue. Payment plans can be discussed for those greater than $250.
4) Payments are accepted in USD only and only through Paypal. The Artist will not accept payment in any other form.
5) Client will have the opportunity to direct alterations of the work during the sketch/thumbnail stage, and again at the inking stage. Requested revisions that largely diverge from the Client's original commission description/references may increase the length of time a commission takes, and will be billed separately1. Minor revisions can be made after the commission is complete.
6) Critiques and redline corrections for commissions are welcomed, within reason, to ensure the best result. The Artist reserves the right to reject critiques or corrections.
7) The Artist reserves the right to reject critique and redline pertaining to artistic skill or style preference (i.e. anatomy, coloring style, etc.) or if said critique reduces the artistic quality of the piece.
8) Refund policy is as follows; if the Client wishes to cancel their commission before work begins, the Artist will retain 5% of the original commission payment in US dollars as a convenience fee. In the event of Client cancellation during the sketch/thumbnail stage phase, a 50% refund of original payment will be issued. No refund will be issued if the Client cancels during the color stage, or after the commission is complete. If the Artist cancels the commission, 100% of the original commission payment in US dollars will be refunded to the Client.
9) The Artist reserves the right to cancel a commission and issue a refund due to poor and/or lack of communication, rude or inappropriate behavior, or unforeseen inability to complete the commission.
10) Communications about commissions between the Client and Artist will take place solely through amaraburrger[at]gmail.com for the purpose of record-keeping and consolidation. The Artist will not discuss commissions beyond initial inquiry with a Client using personal note, instant messenger, or public forum. If email communication is not suitable for the Client, it is the Client’s responsibility to facilitate another means of communication which suits both parties.
11) The Artist ensures the Client will receive email updates on commission when necessary. Clients are encouraged to check in when they feel it's necessary (within reason) for updates, assurance, reminders, or questions. Public updates will also be made via Trello board links provided in journal entries at https://www.furaffinity.net/user/amaraburrger.
12) The Artist will not handle depiction of illegal activities, non-consensual sexual activity, hateful images, or images involving real people without the expressed written consent of people being depicted. Violence, gore, and humorously offensive work will be considered on a case-by-case basis. The Artist reserves the right to reject any commission for any reason.
13) The Artist retains the right to display all commissioned work on any personal website, gallery, or journal, with exception to the Artist’s Patreon pending the Client’s approval. If the commissioned work is a time-sensitive gift the Artist may delay public showcase at the request of the Client.
14) The Artist retains ALL the rights to the commissioned artwork, including the right to make prints and merchandise, and to alter the commissioned work to make it more generic for print at the Artist’s discretion. Image rights can be negotiated for an added fee.
15) The Client retains all rights to their respective characters. This does not allow them rights to the commissioned image (see articles 13 and 14).
16) The Client may not profit from the artwork beyond the resale of a physical original painting or drawing (traditional media, not digital). This includes the sale of the digital files, or rights to the image. In the event of the Client selling the character which has been depicted in commissioned artworks, the Artist retains complete rights to the image(s) and will not be required to remove it from any galleries or make any alterations to it based on anyone’s whim, including but not limited to the character’s new owner.
17) The Client may create up to three prints for personal use (display in their home or as gifts). Client may also resize or crop the artwork to create icons, wallpapers, or other graphics to be used in non-commercial digital format, but the Client cannot alter the artwork itself, including merging two or more separate canvases into a single image, without direct consent from the Artist. The Client may also upload the artwork to their personal website or gallery accompanied by a credit line to the Artist, and it must not be any high resolution or unwatermarked version of the artwork. Low resolution and/or watermarked versions of the artwork will be provided to the Client on completion of the commissioned work.
18) The Artist may recycle sketches and preparatory works that were rejected by the Commissioner for other commissions or personal works.
19) In the event that a Client is unreachable by ordinary contact means for 3 months or more (without prior notification, e.g. pending vacation, or sudden life events), the Artist reserves the right to cancel the commission and retain all transferred funds. The Client, having rescinded their spot in line due to lack of communication, is welcome to receive credit, in the amount originally paid, which is valid toward another commission at the Artist’s current rate so long as communication is resumed within one(1) year of the Client paying the invoice in full.
20) The Artist is not responsible for lost or damaged items sent by mail.
21) By sending payment, the Client affirms that they have read and understand, and agree to the above terms set forth by the Artist. Violation of said terms may result in a temporary/permanent restriction on and/or ban from commissioning the Artist.
1 Additional fees may be imposed if corrections result in a sizeable amount of added work. I.E. completely reworking the pose of a character, changing the entire angle of a the scene depicted in the artwork, etc.
