Finally watched Frozen
Posted 10 years agoSo yesterday I finally got to watch Disney's Frozen and... well I feel this movie got overhyped quite a bit. I actually liked only one song and it was the snowman one. Main characters are all ok, but this movie seriously lacks in charismatic villain department. Also parents dying felt so odd - they didn't even get a scene of fighting the storm. We just see children-theater like scene where ship just flops and disappears from afar.
Graphic-wise it is great, some stuff is plain amazing but story just doesn't feel that epic. For most of the movie we kinda feel like it's just walk to sister, talk and it will be solved. Not even that many good jokes - if there was no Olaf this movie would be plain sad. (oh also all names I remember is Olaf, Sven and Chris..Christof? )
So yeahhhh. I prefer Tangled or Princes and the Frog by quite a bit.

Hearthstone Deck - Impestation
Posted 10 years agoHey folks. Decided to share my bits of my own Hearthstone adventures. Made myself new Warlock deck that is all about Imps - those pesky demons got few more cards lately and it would be a shame not to try to build theme deck around them.
Disclaimer - since I'm not youtuber living from making videos and such I made it only using what dropped out and not all cards there are xD
2x Sacrificial Pact
2x Power Overwhelming
2x Blood Imp
2x Flame Imp
2x Voidwalker
2x Darkbomb
2x Demonfire
2x Flesheating Ghoul
1x Imp Master
2x Void Terror
2x Imp-losion
1x Mini-Mage
1x Bane of Doom
2x Floating Watcher
2x Spectral Knight
1x Siphon Soul
1x Illidan Stormrage
1x Ragnaros the Firelord
So in short - I have all but one imp card (just one Imp Master) and that's mostly cause I didn't have second copy. Rest of stuff there is keeping the theme of Warlock's army/demons/undead. From interesting things, Power Overwhelming helps a ton in certain situations, it's best use with either Void Terror on hand or, if really needed sacrificial pact to really use as much of demon as possible. Dark Bombs are really nice direct damage for that price and next to Demonfires they fit nicely as only 2 mana cards in deck.
Flesheating Ghoul? with those Imp-losions (both killing effect of them and 1/1 imps it gives you) it makes for nice and well fed ghoul. Honestly never thought that one Imp Master was not enough - she is very situational and works mostly when you start with her on hand, in mid-late she gets meh. So why Mini-Mage (beside obvious "you had no better cards right?") - well he's my personal assistant slash guy making implosions flood my board XP Bane of Doom is here just cause of potential of summoning another imp... well or possibly Inferno - I prefer Imp of course.
Floating Watchers are plain awesome, and when you mix them with Flame imps you get pretty tough crits for that price. Spectral Knights? They are semi-heavy hitters of this deck also my personal safeguard against mages who probably already killed or sheeped other big targets. Siphon Soul is only removal but so far didn't really need more than that - with power overwhelming and other direct damage most creatures can be disposed anyway.
We end with Illidan who works nice with cheaper crits you have here and Ragnaros for that bit of terrible-terrible damage.
It's not deck to rock the world but I find it amusing and working. Plus makes for all the interesting games. (also 6 wins in a row on ladder including probably bot golden hunter >.> )

My top 5 games of the year and such
Posted 11 years agoSo here's my top 5 games of 2014 - take in mind list of stuff I played was quite long and it took me lots of pondering to came up with just 5 positions... sorta xD
This incarnation of Civilization is something different. I know there was Alpha Centauri, and everyone who hoped this game to be it's sequel got disappointed, but I actually had quite fun time with it. Game feels very Civ 5 while changing some features and playing with them around. Aliens are much more fun than barbarians ever where, their AI seems improved since previous game. Making each new city develop from outpost changes way you play, same goes to affinity system - depending on our surroundings it may be better to choose Purity over Harmony, other time you spec in supremacy. If you add satellites and (in my opinion) better way your army evolves you get solid game.
On negative side - tech web is very confusing and first few games might be just randomly picking technologies (good idea is looking through steam workshop for ui mod adding more filters - very useful thing), I can also say that because way you pick your starting bonuses, corporations are not super distinguishable and I'd say one of choices is just so bad it should be redone.
All in all good pick if you like sci-fi strategies.
This free to play card game by Blizzard came out early this year and stormed streaming sites. Even now it's getting lots of attention. So why should you play it? Why not stick to Magic? Well so it depends on you. This game is quite a lot simpler than MTG - there is no playing cards in opponents turn, you can usually pick what you want to attack (enemy minions or his "face") and there is quite more randomness in it.
So if you didn't skip this yet let me say few more things: this game allows you to make your own decks using one of 9 character classes (each gets their own cards and there are many neutral ones that can be used in all) - each with their own class ability (ex. paladin can summon weak minion, rogue can get a knife etc). You play games, earn gold for each three victories and for completing daily quests. You can use gold to get boosters with additional cards, play Arena mode (where you make a deck just for each run, and you get reward depending how many wins you get before you loose 3 times) or unlock single player adventures (for now game has 5 wings of Naxxramas - this should be known name if you played World of Warcraft) with interesting mechanics on each boss.
Just about week ago game got it's first expansion - Goblins and Gnomes - containing over 120 cards if I recall correctly.
In the end - if you like card games or maybe just warcraft and you don't mind random - give it a try - it's free.
Ahh Shadow of Mordor. Game bought me with two things - interesting story (that they bluntly spoiled in trailers) and not the less interesting nemesis system. In short this game is assassin's creed crossed with arkham assylum/city/origins, flavored with Tolkien. You play role of guard of black gate that is unfortunate enough to see return of forces of darkness to Mordor. And you die. And you get cursed that you're not dead but not alive... and somehow this is bad... well actually game's story isn't as interesting as I would have wanted, but it's not too bad. You are merged with spirit that gives you additional abilities that unlock with progress - you can shoot ghostly arrows (and funny enough you don't have unlimited supply of but seem to lay around everywhere), read minds of uruks and in the end "brand" them basically getting you an ork army in process.
So story wasn't as good as I hoped - what about nemesis system? Well - it's coooooool. There is social structure for uruks and game generates events they are performing to climb it. Each of captains has a name, his own look (it has quite a lot possible combinations, so you shouldn't bump into same looking orks too often), skills and weaknesses. As they advance they get more powerful - they loose weaknesses and gain powers. In addition if you get killed by one of rank and file grunts they will be advanced to a captain - getting their own set of characteristics - and makes killing them so much more presonal. There is much more to it but I'll just say that game gives you some interesting situations.
What doesn't work? Story gets meh as it goes on, not many characters are really that interesting, bosses are not that interesting (not talking about orcs) and last "fight" is just sad. I could possibly nitpick but I prefer not too - as this game gave me hours of solid fun and is actually first game on steam I 100%ed
You like classic fallout games? Buy it... ok maybe I'll say bit more. It's semi-open team based rpg in old style - isometric camera, characters that dies, stay dead and fights can be hard. Lots of weapons (bah lots of weapon types xD ), skills, quests, locations, options in each task... yeah I love Wasteland 2 and I'm pretty sure I'll play this game few more times. You are the Echo team of Desert Rangers - descendants of soldiers that were lucky enough to be far from big cities when nukes fell down. Game starts with death of senior Ranger - you have to learn what happened and take revenge on whoever is responsible - and story escalates nicely from that point. You start with 4 characters you may create from scratch, picking their attributes, skills, looks and even writing short bio, or you can pick from few pre-defined ones. Or mix. After that you will be able to add some npc's to bolster your ranks - but be careful. If you don't have some natural leader there is a chance they will ignore you and do what they think it's best.
As I mentioned there are lots of locations and most of them are interesting and hold not lest interesting people. Let me just mention Mad Monks - group of religious fanatics that will happily detonate nuke-grenades with themselves; or Mannerites - faction that always ask politely, never talk while they chew, and will shoot anyone who's not up to standards.
Game uses combat system that's a mix between older fallouts (action points you get each turn and can use for walking, shooting and using skills or items) with some xcom cover mechanic (partial cover, full cover). I should also mention that every skill in game can become useful - from computer science to toaster repair - because of that it's good to have team of specialist rather than jacks of all trades.
This game gives you several options, and some lead to different endings - it's good to save often and in separate slots.
What's bad about it hmm... well maybe for some people it can be frustrating in moments, it used to be buggy but now it's mostly patched. If you have a chance to get it - it will be money well spent.
Well maybe I put it on first place but doesn't mean I wont point out how many irritating or underwhelming features it has. It's third of Dragon Age games - if you didn't pick up any before you'll be missing on lots of story, tho I guess you can play this way. Most importantly you can import your choices from previous titles to make sure world state is in state you put it into by last playthroughs.
So story - it's rather good (my opinion of course), when it's present it tends to be interesting. Problem - side missions have NO cut-scenes. Example from beginning - some of your scouts have been taken hostage by barbarians - you track them down to swamp. It starts interesting because of undead. You finally get to keep and you get attacked by some barbarians, one big. You kill him and free scouts. But this guy - if he didn't take more damage to be killed, you wouldn't even notice he was there. No cut scene to smash a column, no throwing head of scout down the stairs, no laughing in your face... There are a lot of quests like that - and it hurts your side activities.
Another thing - they promised that this time they will give a fighting system merging both tactical one from Origins and more action paced from second part - and tactical view doesn't do what it should. One - camera sticks too close to ground, two - controls are clearly made with controller in mind, three - you can't tell just one team member to stay in place while other fight.
So I'm done with negatives. Why best game of the year then? As I said. When story is present it is great. There are some branching paths, great companions, irritating ones too (Seeeeraaaaaa!!!!), you get to interact with them. Ability to customize your own keep (even if some choices seem to be purely visual) is nice addition. And playing judge was never as fun! Fighting system is decent tho it has it's flaws. Dragons look great, and fighting them was really fun experience, even if sometimes you feel you're playing solo mmo - those re spawning enemies can irritate a bit.
So - what I'm basically saying is. This game doesn't play as good as many but has a story that, when finished got me to want next part right away - feeling I only ever feel reading books and... playing mass effect 1 xD
Honorable mentions:
-Vanishing of Ethan Carter - really interesting first person adventure game. If you allow it it will be really fun experience - sadly just for few hours. It tells a story of paranormal detective trying to find lost Ethan. Bit of Lovecraft but it's not only flavor. If you bump into it on sale - buy ples. Graphics are really good too.
-Alien Isolation - this game is atmosphere. I am really bad when it comes to scary games and umm yeah. You know what instead of reading just see highlights from my playthrough: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6oA.....qPgQGrZ9euv-kw xD
-Smash Bros (3ds) - Fun party game even if your friends are over sea xP If you have 3ds you probably already own it. Fun fighting game with lots of random drops and silly characters mixed with serious ones.
Biggest Disappointment of the Year goes to Elder Scrolls Online - it's not Elder Scrolls game, mmo part ruins your immersion, joining party doesn't mean you're doing quests as a party, crafting system is years behind skyrim and controls are too mmo'y for my taste. In short - it's MMO game that would be much better if it was single player. Please just give us option to play normal game with friend or two and I'll be happy.
So here you go - I hope someone will manage to take my thoughts and use them in practice - we have a steam sale ahead so watch out for your wallet.

Let's not pre-order games
Posted 11 years agoSo lately I've bumped into some games that had review embargo set very close to or even after release. And some of those games were quite disappointing (or at least irritatingly unpolished). After listening to TotalBiscuit talking about embargo ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gavcvi19q1g ) I actually decided to stop preordering games in general, except for maybe some things that I'm sure will be good (well you can never be, but <almost> sure xP

Getting Halloween mood slowly
Posted 11 years agoSo let's do quick checklist:
1)Halloween art? Check ( Both SFW and NSFW )
2)Relevant icons? Check

3)Some thematic music? Check (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gu-84gXPu6Y - Into The Mind by Miracle Of Sound)
4)Play some horror game? X
So now I need to thinker on horror game to play and if I even want to scream a lot (not my genre of choice I could say) xd

Halloween Icon Edition =3
Posted 11 years agoSomone played SW: Edge of the Empire? (pen and paper rpg)
Posted 11 years agoHey guys, I randomly bumped into this rpg and I wonder if I can get anyone's opinion on it. From quick look looks rather sensible (much better than d20 sw xD ), concentrates on non-jedi and not in center of war. (I think it's after first Death Star was destroyed).
My first note as to races - I love they allowed to play as droids but compared to other species they seem bit underpowered? (as in they won't be able to get half as good attributes as humans).
So if anyone knows it - let me know =3

Wasteland 2 first impressions (no spoilers)
Posted 11 years agoAfter healthy 23 hours of gameplay I can say it's really great game so far. Like story, first time I'm honestly ready most of stuff in game, I dig some ideas and smile at all references I get. I would say it's best turn based RPG I played in years. Feels fallout like and I guess it's fair since fallout took so much out of first wasteland.
My four self made characters somehow manage to kill all those raiders animals and robots trying to kill me even tho I know I did some stupid mistakes with their skill developement.
So far I'm maybe just bit disappointed about player controlled npc's (lol wut) - I mean I need more story to them XD Still at least from scraps some of them are interesting.
Guns are gunalicious =3 many of them and some are uniques, you can mod them, strip them into parts (sometimes useful sometimes... lighter than main gun if you have too much weight). I would say maybe shotguns are bit too weak when shot at unarmored targets? I mean getting shot in a face should leave a mark.
World is big and travel system is close to older fallouts. Just wish for some funny encounters hah. There are some multiple choice scenarios that have serious consequences, many ways to one target. Ahh I feel so good playing it. Feels home lol.
Oh well we always have Toaster Repair Skill (I don't think I'll get over it anytime soon)
I'm sure what I've wrote is super chaotic but hey I'm too excited about it to give cold review. Also can't review until it's finished.
So just for preview I'm giving this game solid B+/A
That's lowered just cause somehow I get rare screen tearing no matter what I change in graphics.

Con was fun x3
Posted 11 years agoIn short - seen some nice cosplayers, got few photos with them or of them (including being arrested by stormtroopers) got to dress up in real medieval armor and got to learn few things about random topics. Oh and I got to test Oculus Rift. Damn - it really works great.
So all in all time well spend with friends. Maybe next time I'll manage to get a costume x3

Leaving for Polcon 2014
Posted 11 years agoSo - hope to get some quality time on biggest Polish sci-fi and fantasy convention with 4 friends ^^
Bit a shame I have basically 0 costume but me coming there this year was a surprise (sponsored by my ex boss - who was nice enough to give me all the free time I need from last Saturday. What a nice guy). Also could at least try to get a badge but meh - important part is good time with friends x3
So hope for best and see you guys back on Sunday!

Lords of the Waterdeep - Boardgame Corner
Posted 11 years agoHey guys. This time I come here to write about game I was playing for last month and a bit with friends on our few last meetings - Lords of the Waterdeep.
Some of you might know Waterdeep is one of big cities of Dungeons and Dragons setting called Forgotten Realms. For others - it's a big city rulled by 11 shadow figures called Lords. Those individuals have great influence and can shape city from behind the scene.
In board game each player gets one randomly picked lord (each of those has different "task") and chooses one of organizations residing in the city (for color of our in game pieces).
In short this is builder placement game - we have pool of agents we send towards different places in city (most of which can be ocupied only by one agent) to recruit new heroes, get quests and do basically all other actions. When we hire heroes they land in our tavern, and if we have combination of those required to fulfill quest we can discard them and get points or other rewards provided.
Players can poke at each other two ways - indirect: placing agents on fields our friends wanted to go; or directly: playing intrigue cards that either profit us or hurt others. Sometimes both.
So beside pure rules what do we get inside the box? Probably best tray for cards and tokens I've seen so far. Card spaces have small deeper areas on both side allowing you to press one end to make other go up for easy picking. Each wooden cube type has it's own space, same with agen figures and basically every single token type.
Game itself I've played in 2, 3 and 4 players (saddly couldn't get fifth but will try again) and I can say game is very playable no matter the players but gets better when there are more people trying to work towards their agenda and trying to prevent others' plans.
There is some randomness but in the end game is not about luck but plan and how it evolves to actions of other players. Games take 30-50 minutes depending on head count and how fast they take actions.
Fun to win, fun to loose - good pick, even if you don't care for dnd. If you do? Well you'll probably get some references others won't.
