I'm going full time artist at AnansiDragon Illustrations
Posted 4 months agoThis has been a long time coming. For years I’ve been building up my dream to become a full-time artist while balancing it with the 9-5 grind. But sadly, the grind has been cutting more and more into my time and changes within the job have been making my future there uncertain.
So Ive decided to cut loose and become an artist full time under AnansiDragon Illustrations!
I’ll admit, I’m a little terrified. This isn’t my first attempt to make this leap. I’ve had close calls and encouraging moments, but nothing quite stuck. But I’ve also spent over 10 years building this community, this art, this dream. And I know I can’t keep putting it off waiting for a "perfect" moment.
From now til the end of June I’ll be:
-Building up a larger inventory of physical merch (prints, stickers, etc) to sell at cons and online.
- More focus on developing my OC’s and the worlds they live in.
-More energy into more adult themed works
- Start making comics for future releases
-Develop my roadmap to support this new career path, and ways to connect with this community that I've grown to love.
Then from July on I’ll cut ties with my current job and start working on art full time. If things work out after August, then I’m on the right track.

Going solo/future stores and comms
Posted 6 months agohad mentioned to a folks that I would be opening Commissions after Vincon. At the moment I'm mulling over prices and in the process of setting up online shops to sell the stickers and prints I make. A little difficult to do with a full time job atm.
Of course that full time job may no longer be an option for me. Given the current chaos out there, my bosses are planning on going splitsville and start their own company, taking most of the department with them. I'll try to stay updated.

Long time! So whats next? 2024+

-First off, sorry for the long delays, 2023 has been... rough.
-The move to Washington fell through within the year, so I had to move back to Colorado in August
-Cut ties with my parents almost immediately after I came home, still processing that.
-Going to be moving again by the end of the month to a cheaper living situation.
-Finally, Got injured at work and have been trying to deal with a broken foot (big toe, Miles was right, they just bandage you up and wish you luck lol)
But the main thing I'm still grappling with is what direction I want to take my art and my ideas. Commissions have been nice and all, but its hard to do on a regular basis while dealing with a full time job. Especially since Id rather do art as my full time job. I'd like to do work on art prints, stickers, bookmarks, the usual physical products folks sell. Do more art shows than the local comicon every other year, and try publishing my original content.
But heres the rub... I'm in "fandom limbo" when it comes to fan art, since what fandom stuff I like is either too obscure or in the crosshairs of everyone's anger in one way or another. My original content is both too mature and too kid like, nor is it considered ready by any means for an audience to see. Not to mention my audience is tiny because I'm too shy to interact with most fandoms, I'm trying to avoid all the drama on social media, and I suck at advertising.
I dont know what options are safe or what to do. I want to do art full time instead of having to rely on retail that pays pennies or dangerous labor jobs that pay great but take up all of my time.

Got a nasty surprise last night when my discord got hacked.
Pro tip: if a user asks you “for feedback on a game/project” and provides you a Megas link and encryption code… block them immediately and report it to the admins!
So far all I have lost is my Discord account and the servers attached to it. I’m taking precautions and changing passwords.
What a nasty birthday gift indeed

With Commissions finished this month I'm deciding on what projects to focus on for the month of February. What would you guys like to see? Comment below to the following or vote on Twitter.
A. The family of my dragon Diana. This will be her 5 children Freya, Serlene, Thorn, and the twins Rose and Paris. These will be ref sheets and perhaps a couple pictures with stories.
B. Anansi's Transformations. References of my little spooders zodiac themed transformations.
C. The Staff of the Scarlet Cup Cafe. This will include Freya from the first option, along with a couple drawings of the other staff with some stories attached.

2022 Updates
Posted 3 years agoHya hiya! Firstly, a happy new year, be sure to stay warm and cozy as 2022 gets underway! I want to give a special shout out to all of my new followers for your support, and to all my older viewers a hearty thank you for keeping it going.
First order of business is that I currently have switched day jobs to something temporary, but lower paying. As such I will be making strives to open up commissions to help keep a roof over my head for the next couple of months. In addition, starting next week I’ll be making preparations to move to another state with a couple friends in August. So I plan to keep things running to help save up what I can for a smooth transition.
Second, I know I'm awful about posting my art and updates on other sites as I tend to spend all my time in Discord and Twitter. I’m planning on updating my profiles on select sites so I can get back into fighting shape. At the moment I’m keeping my workload small until I can get back into a groove.
One thing I will be doing is reviving my patreon, and alt my tiers to better fit this new workload, doing more character adopts to help save up, and get a kofi going too.
I won’t be throwing all these at once. I’ll be posting commission prices later this week, then post more things as the month progresses.
There’s more stuff in the way, but for now that’s all I have to say on the matter. Let’s make 2022 a good year!

THE NEXT THREE WEEKS
Posted 6 years agoSorry I haven't been very active. I'm still getting the bugs worked out and finding my groove. Over the next three weeks I will be taking care of some family matters. I wont be able to stream on a regular basis during that time but I will be uploading what I manage to finish.
At the same time I'll be slimming down my discord page to make it more streamlined, and making sure to add more variety of content to allow interaction among followers and suppoerters.

Looking to the New Year

To all my new viewers, welcome to my art page!
To all my returning viewers, welcome back and thank you for your continuing support!
2018 has been a roller coaster of a year:
-Had to move to a new home, twice
-Experienced my first comicon as a vendor. Making it my third official comicon in my time doing art, and a huge learning experience.
-Made many new and wonderful friends
-Got the chance to meet my heroes online and learned new tips and tricks.
-Met the love of my life.
As far as my projects, I have pushed myself harder than I ever have in the past. And while I' both impressed with my rapid progression and the results of what I created:
My Body and my stress levels do not agree. Despite my best efforts, I was unable to push myself any further. So for now I wont be able to do any more art this year as I'm currently trying to rest my sprained hands, deal with back problems, and get myself to relax (feats easier said than done) as well as get a proper nights sleep. Now I know how it feels to be 
lightning-bliss
In addition, this year severely drained me financially. This may force me to jump-start my plans earlier than I would have preferred, but we'll get to that in a bit.
So, what are my plans for 2019?
Well, while nothing is set in stone, a couple months back I submitted a survey asking for feedback on my current work and where I can improve. Based on the results, here's what I'll do effective January 2019
SCHEDULE CHANGES
I'm looking to increasing the number of submissions I do each month. I know one major problem I have is not posting art on a regular basis, so I'm looking to fix that. In addition I need to start submitting art here on FA
MORE FOCUSED CONTENT
Next year I'm looking to make more original content, and work on projects that have been gathering dust over the years. That doesn't mean I won't be doing fanart from time to time :)
Some things you can expect:
-Comics
-Short Stories
-D&D related content
-Original Characters and Worldbuilding
-Some NSFW art (will be kept in a separate gallery)
NEW GALLERIES
While Ive been doing well on DA and Twitter, its high time I extend my reach and look into new sites to post my work. I just hope the current landscape affecting sites like Tumblr, Facebook and YouTube to cause me any trouble.
DIGITAL ART?
While I'm not overly fond of the idea of doing digital art, I cant deny the advantages they have. once my finances are stable I'll look into trying my hand, and speaking of finances...
PATREON/KOFI
I will officially launch a Patreon, at the moment I'm working on rewards and a system, so I'll get to that when the details are fleshed out. I'll also do a Kofi Page if Patreon isn't your thing
COMMISSIONS
I'll be opening commissions in the spring as I get back into doing my artwork, more details to come.
STREAMING
An overwhelming majority support doing streaming sessions, so I'll be researching where and what programs to use. Currently my tech and resources are limited, but I'll do my best.
ART CURRICULUM
Despite my progress, I still have a long way to go before I reach the level of my heroes. And besides, an artist never stop learning and evolving. Right now, since I cant afford an art school, I'm currently setting up a curriculum so I can brush up and improve my skills. Who knows, I may even set up practice streams or put up vids on YouTube to track my progress! We'll see!
