I can't go at this point. No job, try as I might, and nobody even contacted me with availability for a room. I'll just have to try harder in seeking employment.

Alright, I know I just jack-be-quick'd under one financial scrape, and I fear making myself look irresponsible with this sort of thing, but I need to start planning now if I want to make it to FC next year. I've always wanted to make it to a convention, but never have, so I'd love to orchestrate my arrival and attendance to at least one, and I think FC is a pretty good shot. I have a few self-restraining stipulations;

1. I am looking for anyone already having reserved a room, and who is offering a bed or collapsible for another guest.

2. I will only ask that, should the lesser agree, they hold the room until Dec 1st. My attendance hinges on myself finding a job before winter's through, so that I'll have spending cash enough for a trip to Cali.

3. If I do not find a job, I will not allow myself to go. Dec 1st is the deadline, so he who may have reserved me a spot will still have time to pick up a roomie before the con festivities begin.

4. I'd prefer to go with someone I know, at least by online acquaintance. However, it's never too late to make a friend.

Okay, so me and my best friend from high school get it into our heads that; By God! we need to go on a roadtrip and do something more exciting than our usual fishing expeditions. So! my friend has been looking through various historical records and thinks he mighta pinpointed an old silver cache hidden in the Chiricahua foothills near a certain mountain. Sounds like a good enough plan, so we load up gear enough for three days and begin the 200 mile trip to the Chiricahua's. This trip took us through such savory towns as Tucson, Wilcox, Bowie and Portal, and stopping in Paradise (a small village hewn so intimately into the forest that you could be fifteen feet off the road on the wrong side and never even see Paradise as you pass by) for directions, finally we arrive at our destination with our SUV baking in about an inch of dust coated to all side of it. Adventure!

Circa 7 PM, it starts to get dark, so we set up camp, light a fire, roast some wieners for dinner, have a smoke and decide to turn in around 8 PM so we can rest up and get an early start the next day. Instead of going right to sleep, though, I spent about 50 minutes scribbling down ideas for a new story (which I think will be some of my best furry fiction), and I shut off my flashlight at about 8:50.

So no later than 20 minutes later, I think I hear footsteps, but since we were in the middle of nowhere, camping on a scrubby flat I was wholly ready to right it off as wind blowing something around. However, the sound persisted, and seemed to draw closer, and after another 10 minutes my friend was sitting up, brandishing his revolver. So in darkness we listened, with not a single word between us, to this stalking sound come towards our campfire, then away from us towards our van. My friend swears he heard the door tried, but soon the sounds were gone. My friend handed me his gun and jammed a magazine into the hunting rifle we'd brought, and for the first time in years, I was honestly frightened something bad was going down.

We sprung out of the tent with guns raised, did a flashlight sweep of the area, but found no one. It is very important to note down a few things:
1. We were very close to the Mexican border.
2. Though we were in the Chiricahua Mountains, an obstacle to overcome by foot, there is a pass between them that both the smugglers and the Border Patrol know of. Smugglers and Wetbacks do not go through the pass, as it is monitored, but will use the smaller mountains to either side (where we were camping) to get across undetected.
3. What we heard might have just been an illegal looking to steal some food - best case scenario - OR it could've been a scout sent out by a group of drug/human traffickers, whom travel armed and in groups and are not unheard of - worst case scenario. It was a very, very, very good idea not to test either theory with our lives staked on them.

We decided to leave, immediately. Camp was broken down in 7 minutes, record time, and we hauled ass back to the interstate. Amongst the strewn gear was a box of a half dozen assorted donuts that we had planned to have for breakfast, with coffee. They were eaten immediately, to the toast that "It was good to still be alive."

P.S. I still can't believe that writing a furry story could've been the last thing I did in life. FFfffffffffffffff-

It was a shakey possibility from the get-go, and now it seems like an impossibility. I'm leaving home to go to a real university up in Flagstaff, and I need every penny I've got to make it there and get situated, so no, I am not going to AC.

G-Ma is in the clear, actually! She was severely dehydrated with a bad menagerie of nasty, but temporary(!), gastrointestinal maladies, but she should be fine in a few weeks.

I'm glad that I'm my grandmother's grandson, because nothing can kill this woman. NOTHING. I have invincibility genes in my ancestral lineage. Like I said, she should be fine, though she had us all in a rightful scare for a bit.
