Just popping in to write a quick update here, then I have a ton of other stuff to do.

I'll be at FCN this weekend (Thursday evening through Sunday afternoon). Since I didn't do artists' alley at FE (which I know some people were bummed about; sorry guys) I'll definitely be doing it at FCN if it looks promising.

FCN and AC are going to be it for the rest of the year, con wise, so if you're itching to get something from me at a con, those are your two opportunities. Luckily I got a dealer's table for AC, so I should be super easy to find there.

If you are going to be at FCN, keep an eye on the signage; I did special illos and layouts for the signs for each room. It ended up being a pretty big project, but it was super fun. I'll probably be uploading the art for them after I get back.

Tonight if I have time I am going to be doing a mini art dump with a lot of the stuff I've been working on lately. Hopefully people will enjoy that while I'm out of town.

I'm a little behind on emails, so thank you to everyone who has been patient. I'm going to try to get everything ploughed out correspondence-wise when I get back.

people - drawing backgrounds, even though it is not always the fun part, is a good skill to have. It will make you a better artist in the long run. I promise. Sometimes they are hard to figure out and get the characters to the right scale - that is okay. Keep plugging at it.

It's been a little while since I've done these and I've received some requests to do them again, so I figured since I have some time open this weekend I'd give it another go.

Hey Internet,

Happy New Year!

A couple of people have asked me why I haven't posted much lately; mostly just the holidays and stuff. Now that things are getting back to normal, my plan is pretty much to have a posting party. Hopefully it won't be too irritating, haha. Not sure if I'll post everything or just pick the stuff I really like.

Also, because people ask this a lot, you are absolutely free to repost anything you get from me, whether it's giftart or a commission or a trade, whatever. I don't have a lot of hangups about my drawings getting passed around the internet, or posted on image boards, or whatever, as long as you're not trying to pass it off as yours.

Which, trust me, is a bad idea, because apparently I have hit that sweet spot in the ladder of furry popularity mediocrity where people recognize my style, even if you flip it and trace it, haha.

I also don't have a problem with people doing edits of my stuff for personal use, (I can't speak for the people who commission characrter illos, so I'm talking personal stuff here) as long as you credit yourself as the editor on the image (i.e. put "edited by yourname" on the image somewhere) so people know it's been edited. I feel like this is something people are going to do eventually anyway, and as long as it's not deliberately malicious it doesn't bother me.

I'm sure you're all being inundated with MFF journals so I'll keep this brief.

Me, Therian, and Zhed are flying out this afternoon. We'll be at the overflow on Thursday and the main hotel for Friday through Monday.

I'm planning on doing Artists' Alley at least on Friday, so if you want to say hi or chat or whatever, that's cool. I'm taking a limited amount of stuff hopefully, so I can spend time suiting and hanging out with the lion b. If you're interested in getting stuff, it's a good idea to find me sooner rather than later; last year I filled up fast.

I am also super interested in doing trades this year, which are usually really fun, so don't be afraid to ask.

I'll have the Boda partial Therian and I made, and he will have Zanni the bun, so those should be pretty easy to find.

Notes have historically been a terrible way to contact me at cons. I will have my kindle this time, but who knows how good the internet will be, so I'm not making any guarantees. I don't have a smart phone, but I can send and receive email (via my yahoo) in a pinch. Texting is the best way to tell me shit at cons; ask for my number if you feel like you need it (but if I don't know you at all I might say no).

Just a heads up since I don't really plan on doing the meme, me and therian are both booked to go to MFF. We are pretty psyched!

I spruced up the boda fursuit head he made a couple years ago (that I have never brought to a con because it needed some extra crafting) along with the paws and tail that I made to go with it, and hopefully I'll be bringing those along so I can finally fursuit like the cool kids; haha. I was sick of not having a usable suit while Therian has 2 (Zanni the bunny and a Therian partial) so I finally resolved to try to learn how to fix it up. I replaced the eyes and shaved the head a second time, in addition to shaving and patching up the crappy paws I made, and adding claws to them. I still have to touch up the stripes and do some gluing, but other than that it's good to go.

Thanks to everyone for your well wishes, the wedding was super lovely and we had awesome weather. I really couldn't have asked for a better day! Therian and I were very pleased and honored to have our families and friends (fandom and otherwise) there with us to celebrate. It was fantastic to get to hang out with everyone for a fun filled weekend of awesome <3

From now on if you leave a comment on a submission of mine that's completely tactless, I'm just going to hide it. I have struggled with this before, because I feel like people have the right to express themselves, but if I feel like people are needlessly being insulted or made to feel uncomfortable, I'm drawing the line.

This is in no way talking about critique, which is actually something i value highly, and appreciate.

A few announcements and housekeeping things:

First, commissions are officially re-open. I changed my working process a little; all inquiries should now be directed to my spanking new commission email : monstrousdoctor[at]gmail.com . I'm going to stop using notes for commissions; they're just too hard to keep track of. I got a new computer not long ago (some of you might remember that my previous comp was a 2004 powerbook) and Sparrow has made keeping track of commission emails so much easier and vastly preferable to the notes system for that purpose.

I also updated my TOS to reflect this, as well as to clarify the payment process (i.e. you pay after you get the sketch). I have been invoicing everyone lately and that has worked out well for bookkeeping purposes, so I'm gonna keep doing that.

In addition, in the spirit of transparency, I've moved my queue to google drive so people can get updates on work that's pending easier, and it's easier for me to update.

Convention update:
I wanted to mention that Therian and I changed our plans regarding MFF, so we're going to go. We were originally going to forgo it in favor of the honeymoon, but we both decided that we needed more time to plan the honeymoon and that will be much easier after the wedding. TL;DR, we're going to MFF.

Website update:
Lastly, I updated my site (monstrousdoctor.com) with a few odds and ends, the aforementioned TOS and convention updates, but also a new wallpaper. It's pretty simple / design oriented, but I like it. If you have a piece of mine that you'd like to see made into a wallpaper, feel free to let me know. I'll try to remember to keep updating those, haha.

Just letting you guys know that I'm going to be out of town for a couple of days. My family asked me to go with them on vacation this week, so I'll be in Canada, away from my office (and, unfortunately, my almost husband).

So, I think I might skip the AC wrap-up, for the most part. Suffice it to say, it was super duper fun, met a lot of cool people, got to hang out with old friends, etc. therian and I were con mom and dad to zhed who was a very gracious guest and an all around good guy. It is our last con for a while which kind is kind of sadface, but we have the wedding looming which doesn't give us a lot of time to mourn our furry social life.

So I never posted a wrap up or post con journal for FE, and now it seems kind of too long after the fact... but here goes.

FE was fun. I keep trying to make a judgment about my experience that is more definitive or meaningful, but "fun" keeps being it.

It was kind of weird because it was really small compared to our other staple cons (AC obviously but also MFF) so you kind of had to make your own fun, but that is usually the best part of most cons. We got to hang out with some cool people, tharakaos, blackshirtboy, cudney, and the always chill soba. We went St. Patty's Day drinking with the first three and had Japanese with Soba (lol irony) that was surprisingly cheap and good considering how close it was to the hotel. This is, of course, a direct contrast to MFF where the hotel is largely in expressway wasteland.

Business wise I feel like it's not fair to compare this con to other cons because I limited myself to one day in the alley (the shortest, deadest day) and intentionally booked very few commissions. I feel like next year I would be better off doing the dealer's den, but that locks me in for three days, so I'm still on the fence about it.

I have 1 commission left to finish, and then I'm gonna try a new business model, commission wise. The way I've been taking commissions in the past is kind of crap and (unintentionally) unfair, so hopefully this will rectify some of that. I have my new TOS written up, and I'm going through and re-evaluating my prices now. I'm thinking about introducing traditional art as an option for people who want to get that from me without having to have the stars align and be at the same con; we'll see.

I also am working on finishing that comic which I think people are liking. Back to that now.

Just an update on con attendance for this year:

Therian and I will be attending Furnal Equinox in Toronto from the 15th (we are checking in on Thursday) to the 18th. I'm gonna check out the possibility of doing Artists Alley just to kind of scope out this con, because we've never gone. If we end up liking FE and permanently adding it to our con roster, I'm considering doing the dealer's den next year (something I've never done) and maybe producing some new apparel for it.

We are also confirmed for Anthrocon, IE, we have booked the hotel. We're in the Westin again, which is good for Therian's fursuiting. Also, both of our partials (Boda and Therian) are scheduled to be done for AC, so if that happens it will be very cool.

Midwest this year is probably not going to happen, considering we are getting married just a month before the con. I love conventions, but not for my honeymoon. Speaking of which, we haven't picked a place yet for the honeymoon. Anyone have any suggestions?
