Road Trip to Cali!
General | Posted 16 years agoMy friend Soltris, a local dragon, is moving from Dayton Ohio to San Francisco. He's asked me to drive out with him, so I'll be in the bay area in the May 12th-14th range. Just in case anyone would like to swing by and high-five me.
We'll also be making a stop in Colorado, around Denver, but we don't plan to dally anywhere else along the route.

Career change: Gunsmithing
General | Posted 16 years agoI've idly thought once or twice about what it would be like to be a gunsmith. Today I actually looked around online to see what it would entail. For once, I'm actually encouraged.
There's a gunsmithing trade school in Colorado, even in the same area where I have both friends and relatives. The school's claim that their program can be completed in 14 months is probably unrealistic, but it's not going to be a life-sapping span of time.
Because of the training I'd receive on shop equipment, the skills carry over into plenty of other (quite employable) fields. If I end up getting serious about making movie props, the training would plug right into that.
It's a field that lets me work with my hands, offers room for creativity, rewards attention to detail and craftsmanship, and work will never dry up in my lifetime.
Paired with my English degree, it would also qualify me (I would assume) to write/edit books and manuals.
I'm not seeing many cons to this, to be honest. Well, other than helping perpetuate objects designed solely to kill. Part of the problem, not the solution and all that.
Thoughts?

Lucid Dreaming
General | Posted 17 years agoI read in an article recently that the key to lucid dreaming is to perform 'reality checks' throughout the day. The habit is supposed to continue into sleep, so you'll be able to catch when you're dreaming and take control.
I pinched myself, and at the same time, saw some text on my wristwatch. I glanced away, and when I looked back the text had changed: one of the signs you are indeed dreaming.
The article warns not to get too excited when you learn you're dreaming. Too excited, and you'll wake up. So I damped down my enthusiasm and tried to guide the dream.
...It was hard! I might as well have been a noob to the Matrix, trying to warp reality. I could do it, but it took a lot of concentration, and the dream resisted me every step of the way. I ended up getting pulled over by the cops, and didn't have my license on me. I wasn't arrested or ticketed, but I did have to walk home. There were pegasuses (Pegasii?) at one point briefly, but they dissolved into the ether before I got to ride one, and I couldn't summon them back.

Necromancer School
General | Posted 17 years agoI got this idea while laying in bed one night trying to get to sleep. Harry Potter is enjoyable, sure, but it isn't very hardcore and it's pretty darn moppet-friendly. There are passing references to grim or disgusting elements of magic, but for the most part things are clean and tidy.
Now imagine a sister school of Hogwart's (not set in the Potter universe at all, just giving you a frame of reference) established to train necromancers. There is so much potential there for horrible pranks, thrilling adventures, and grisly fun.
What do beginner necromancers work with? I'd imagine you'd start with bugs, worms, that kind of thing. Animating dead tissue, forcing your will onto a not-quite in-working-order organism and making your commands stick even as your slave/familiar/pet roams beyond your influential range.
Second year students move up to small mammals, amphibians, and reptiles.
Third year students may work on golems, animated skeletons and other 'incomplete' creatures.
Not until your fourth year do you start work on human cadavers.
There's a lot of research involved of course. I have to figure out the basics behind necromancy. Does it matter how fresh a corpse is, in terms of your end-product's quality? How much of the dead creature's unique qualities survive the transition from death to un-life? I'd also need to establish a power scale. Is it impossible to raise someone from the dead so perfectly that their memories and other faculties are totally intact? Is it rare to be able to reanimate so perfectly? What's the far end of the scale? Someone who can raise entire graveyards at once to do their bidding? Or someone who can manipulate organic tissue as easily as a master sculptor works with clay, creating patchwork creatures with amazing abilities?
Some of the inherent humor is obvious, with pieces falling off the student's creations and plenty of zombie jokes, but think what trouble a pair of disembodied hands could get into?
It's also pretty easy to sketch out a potential cast of characters.
Protagonist: Son of well-known necromancers. Withdrawn and morose from his years in traditional schools, where his pallor and awkwardness made him a social reject. Now, in supporting surroundings with like-minded people, he's free to bloom and drop his introverted habits.
Love interest: Very much Wednesday Addams, a creepy girl fascinated with death and decay. Her playmates are darkness and wet Autumn winds. She excels in her studies, but is always skipping ahead, eager for the next step and confident she can handle it.
Goofy sidekick: Different schools of necromancy probably come together in this academy, and the sidekick will be from the voodoo side of things. He isn't weak, or sniveling, but quite laid back and unconcerned about how bad his grades tend to be. While he isn't wise beyond his years, a talking skull (Or shrunken head) that's been in the family for years advises him and his friends.
Unlikeable sidekick: A ditzy girl who looks like an Aber Crombie and Fitch covergirl, but who possesses a downright disturbing enthusiasm for the most disgusting of tasks. There are flickers of megalomania in her that hint at a concealed cunning, but she's just *such* a ditz that few watch her carefully.
School bully: Not from a rich background, but with aspirations of power, this kid has worn the cover off The Prince several times. He's cunning, but not very imaginative. Most of the friction between him and the core of heroes is merely roommate friction, from sharing a room with the antagonist for the first two years at the school.
Antagonist: A Catholic priest. :KD

In other news, Fallout 3 was cool, NOS doesn't taste like ass like I'd been told, and for more tender porkchops I learned you should brine them for 30 minutes prior to cooking.

Gold Digger
General | Posted 17 years agoI love Gold Digger, and I've been re-reading the three Gold Bricks I've managed to buy. (The Gold Bricks are the massive trade paperbacks containing 25 issues of the comic apiece.)
I haven't been able to score a Gold Brick Vol. 4, however. It's out of print, and any copies appear to have been bought out long ago. Anyone happen to know where I can still get a copy?
For those who haven't given the series a good look, it's fun. Super science, martial arts, were-cheetahs (and werewolves and werecats too) aliens, time traveling dogs and trap-strewn tombs...plus a rather ridiculous level of feminine hormones gone wild, it's a winning combination. Fred Perry's style lacks almost all of the chibi-ism that's infected recent comics, with no extreme size-changes or distortions. While the comic's first fifty issues were black and white, the comic (as far as I know) is now in all color.
The story arcs are interesting, and they often tie back to each other in a way I have to admire.
Well, by now it's certainly TLDR, so I'll shaddup.

Website cleaned up
General | Posted 17 years agoI've updated my site, http://www.animakitty.com to fix broken links and broken pics, among other little problems.
No new stories up, but a link to my wiki where you might find something you haven't seen 'til now.
Tell me what you think, and definitely tell me if you find something that doesn't work.
I added meta-tags to the site like key words and a description, but I'll have to wait for search engines to index the page again before I notice any real change.

Stuff?
General | Posted 17 years agoUpdate: I'm making slow but fairly steady progress on my slug girl story. I'm past the initial crazy orgy and moving on to where (gasp) plot starts to build up.
Work is kinda annoying lately, but at least there's plenty to do at the moment. Coworkers remain cool.
Saw some Columbus furs last weekend at the Morphicon picnic. Missed seeing Babs, Kattywampus, Aloha, and other Columbus furs I'm used to seeing at such gatherings.
Also attended the Ohio ren-faire last weekend. I bought some bells you wear on your belt, and a lovely fluorite crystal necklace. I <3 ROCKS!

I visited Heaven's Corner this past Saturday and got lots of nice pics of a leopard, a tiger cub, a puma, an adorable little wallaby named Gadget, and more. I also took a lot of video, and I'll post it when I've done some editing. There should be come good footage of the big white tiger Niko and the regular tigress, Tigra.

Exotic Animal Sanctuary in Ohio
General | Posted 17 years agoI've known about http://www.heavenscorner.net/ for awhile now, an animal sanctuary just 10 minutes or so from my home. They've expanded quite a bit since my last visit, though!
They have tigers, panthers, mountain lions, otters, wolves, lynxes, foxes, snakes, birds...many of which were rescued from irresponsible people who thought owning an exotic animal would be fun.
I've submitted an article about the place to Digg, and I'd appreciate it if you dugg it so it can get some attention.
http://digg.com/pets_animals/Exotic.....in_Dayton_Ohio
Also, you can use a neat lil Yahoo-based search engine to help raise money for the place simply by searching the web.

Job!
General | Posted 17 years agoI have a new job finally, started this Monday. I'm doing EXTREEEEMEeeely tedious work for some engineers. Still, it's good experience, and they have such awesome machines on the plant floor. Crucibles, slicers, dicers, drills, mixers, unmixers, VATS OF ACID, things that clank, and one machine that squeals and really hurts my ears even through walls.
Anyways, it's about time. Barring a total of a month and a half of temp work, I've been out of work since November.
Younger-me would've been thrilled to have so much 'time off,' but the truth is I got quite depressed in that period. I didn't want to write, I didn't want to build or paint anything, and every week it got harder to look on those websites and newspapers for jobs that wouldn't hire me.
I'm hoping my spirits pick up as I begin to feel useful, functional, and semi-successful again.

What's sexy?
General | Posted 17 years agoBig sleek dicks, heavy enough that they droop from their own weight, oozing teaspoons of syrup-thick lust.
Plump, honey-smeared vulvas glistening and subtly flexing, begging to be sucked, lipped, and filled.
Soft weighty breasts, capped with thick desperate nipples, glazed with needy sweat.
Parted lips mouthing your own inner thoughts back to you, proving a mind-link you never even dared dream could exist.
Eyes that stay locked on yours, not in challenge or held by force of will but because they don't want to miss a thing in your own gaze. There's no downward-flick of 'you're unattractive' or sideways boredom glance. Those eyes leave yours only when closed, overwhelmed with pleasure or taxed into sleep.
Wide hips supporting that glorious ass, a shape that became an international symbol for love. Curves to rub your cheek along, to trace fingertips over, to squeeze and roll. Flesh darkening post-smack or paling in the wake of a fingernail. And beyond its delightful mass, that tight mysterious portal to be coaxed open and plumbed.
A lover shaped from goo alone, but alive and as souled as anyone. Messy to the point of being a force of nature, insatiable as death, but warm as life.
Sly bitch predators who please you only to pleasure themselves before stretching themselves around you...filling their flanks out with your thoroughly imprisoned self: a self that dissolves into hers, lost in her tissues like countless others before you.
Careless male predators, always after quick sloppy sex and a filling meal after. Minutes or even seconds after your drool-soaked body is sealed past his lips, he's forgotten you were ever a person, and relaxes with a comfortable belch.
Alien wrongness, acts that were never meant to exist on Earth and take a strong imagination to even visualize. Throbbing slime-coated ovipositors, slug-girl pussies that bloom and clutch like an octopus/flower hybrid, nanomachine colonies that fuck you from the inside in brain and body both.
Surrender. The utter submission to your lover, handing them your heart in trembling, cupped hands. There's fear tied up in it, tied in a knot that stops your breath and makes words impossible. What will be done with your heart? The giddy thrill comes when the matter has left your control and for the better or worse, you are no longer your own person.
Dominance. You own another person in every way that matters. Your word is their God-thundered command. Your pleasure is their life and your displeasure their death. You can ruin them with a glance or make them float with a word. You did nothing to win you this devotion, no one could win it. It was given; you simply accepted the gift.
Excess. Reality just doesn't measure up to the movies that run in your head. You want to cum in city-threatening quantities. You want lovers the size of mountains. Pussies become cave-systems, cocks become space-elevators. Breasts swallow cities in their awesome cleavage, and sagging ballsacs displace oceans. Everything is as big as your mind can wrap around. The pitiful scale of reality is a constant disappointment you gloss over with layer after layer of fantasy like an oyster making a pearl.

Singing goat/hippo thing...? CG music video.
General | Posted 17 years agoOkay, I found this video on Youtube once by following a sidebar link from something else. The goat/hippo whatever was singing this repetitive gibberish and I think she was holding an umbrella.
Does anyone have any idea what I'm talking about? I've had no luck finding the video by searching for various terms like 'CG music video', Japanese, hippo, goat, etc. etc. It's really starting to bug me!
Sincerely,
A freak.

Photoshop tips?
General | Posted 17 years agoSo my temp job (it's going well) has mostly had me removing or adding logos to clothing. I've had to do some skewing/distorting/perspective/spherizing to get the logos to look right on wrinkled clothing, but I certainly wouldn't refuse any tips on the matter.
Also, sometimes I need to remove a dark background from around a fairly dark piece of clothing. Even setting the tolerance on the magic wand fairly low, it isn't perfect, and that 'extract' filter is worse than useless. Any tips on that?
Finally, is there anything like an auto-straighten feature?

Jobbity-job.
General | Posted 17 years agoI signed with a new (and far more prestigious) temp agency last week. By Friday, they had found me a job. For two months I'll be doing photo editing with photoshop for a company about 35 minutes away.
It's a relief to have some income again. I've gained weight since November, having next-to-nothing to get me moving. I hope I drop back to where I was now that I'm expending calories five days a week.
So far the job's been extremely tedious and repetitive, but I could have worse complaints about a job. :K)
I've decided that I won't be attending any cons this year. It would be irresponsible of me, when I have a student loan to pay off and expenses to clear away. Even if I got a full-time job immediately after this current gig ends, it just wouldn't be a good idea this year.
