Temporary Job Status
General | Posted 4 years agoMy current job has a long commute and it's eating all my time and energy, so I haven't been drawing hardly at all. But it's temporary! They're switching me to a closer location (with cleaner, funner tasks) sometime in June.
Just letting everyone know that May is gonna be scant as far as Animancer art goes. But I'm still here and I'm planning my return with commissions and sketches and comics galore!

February 2021 learning experiences!
General | Posted 5 years agoHaven't done a journal in a while so here's an update!
I've been slowly refining my Patreon with a heavy focus on animation. $10+ patrons can now vote on which character they'd like me to r34 animate each month!

Last month I got insurance benefits from my union and went and saw a doctor and after several visits and tests they said everything's fine! My stomach problems are caused by stress, not disease! Good news, I guess.
I also spent a lot of time and energy looking for houses to buy, to no avail! It's too expensive here! So I'm giving up for now while I save up MORE money and I'm refocusing on art.
As for the art, here's what's interesting: I haven't been doing a lot of streaming lately. I'm working on my animations in the mornings before work, but after work I feel tired and stressed and I just wanna work on something for only me. So instead of streaming I've been working on secret projects. I like secret projects. I always used to have secret projects. It's really fun and I'm drawing more than ever, but you can't see it. I got mixed feelings about that but at least my motivation's back.
My current job involves grinding concrete floors. It's bad for my back, bad for my knees, and the silica dust from concrete is toxic. I'm trying to find options to move laterally into a different company that's less harmful to my health, but something else I keep considering is quitting early and jumping head first into the world of being a full-time artist. It's scary, it's expensive, but I'm gonna do it SOME day... who knows what the year will bring?
So thanks for reading, I'll see you all on the flip side! I promise I'll do more streaming again soon (starting tonight!) and I hope to see you all there!

Update: Schedule, Plans and Animation!

Weekdays I draw for an hour in the morning and an hour in the evening. In the evening I usually do an art stream, pretty much four times a week on average.
I haven't bothered to post my stream ads on Furaffinity lately because I have to delete them afterwards and it's tiresome to have to always do that. But I DO advertise my streams on Inkbunny and I DO advertise them on my public Discord server.

As for my day job, I'm finally in the union! That means three or four years from now I'll be a journeyman, and THAT means I'll have more time off... time off for adorasexy jerbooty! Meanwhile I expect to get more time off in general than my previous job, so that's good news if you like me drawing butts!
My commission prices have stabilized and I'm tentatively ready to take on some animation commissions! My biggest desire is to have people who pay me to draw Lucky J, so if you want a pic with him in it I offer discounts! I considered taking online animation classes for the purpose of getting a professional art career! But I'd have to sacrifice all my art time for the next six years towards getting that degree, and then I'd have a job making art for some company and I wouldn't even be paid as much as my current job does. So... maybe I'll take one or two classes down the road?

General | Posted 5 years agoIf I ever want to have less commissions my new strategy is to raise prices instead of closing. That way you can still always get something from me as long as you're crazy enough!
I've done pretty well this month, keeping up with projects and commissions and Patreon rewards. My inbox is finally starting to look empty! This is good news because I've been meaning to get my hands dirty with animation. Soon, my friends... soon!
So yeah, my commissions keep going up in price. Just saying it now so nobody gets too surprised.

Virus update! (I'm fine.)
General | Posted 5 years agoI'm a painter, which is construction, which is considered essential. But the clients are starting to dry up. This is good news! I have plenty of food stored and savings in the bank, so my plan of action for when the painting work goes vapor is just draw, draw, draw!
I've reorganized my Trello to list commissions and commission slots as well. That way if FA goes down again I can still link people to my commission info. I've modified commission prices only slightly, and added special offers to boot! This is all in preparation for the storm. Right now I still have plenty of work in my inbox, but as soon as that inevitable block of time hits me I'll post some new commission slots.

After some figuring I've lowered my Patreon goal to $1000/month for quitting my job and pursuing the art, bringing the dream much closer to reality. That's low and really scraping by, but the art is worth it!

My Patreon has three tiers now: Blue Tier ($1) gets High-Res and Discord perks, Green Tier ($5) gets project files and sneak peeks, and Pink Tier ($20) gets an icon showcased on my streams! Showcase means a picture of your character says "Hi" or "Butts" or whatever you like to everyone watching, and it cycles through everyone in the Pink Tier. Pretty neat!
I'm doing animations this month, but I won't be posting them anywhere just yet. My siblings and I are working on a website just for posting silly stuff and I want content for it before it even exists. BUT I will provide early access to my animations for my Green Tier patrons ($5+) so there's that! I'll keep the rest of you up to date on that website. Might be sometime next month or after.

I'm giving a second "free" month to my patrons for December as I shift gears once again. Long story short, I want less monthly obligations so I can focus on personal art and improve my skill. My reward tiers are gonna be muuuuch simpler now, promising only high-res and psd files and basic Discord perks. Now my Patreon is how you can show your support and appreciation, but not a means of getting art from me.
Ko-Fi Raffle:
I'm not putting new names on my raffles from Patreon pledges or from ko-fi donations. In honor of keeping my word, I'll keep drawing from the raffle lists throughout 2020 until they are empty.

This is much better for my own motivation, I don't feel bad about taking money for something I don't know when I'll have time/energy to complete, nobody has to fight over slots cause there's a line, and I can take time off to draw something else whenever I want cause I don't take your money till I'm ready to draw. My goals are community based, so they count the number of my pledgers instead of the actual dollar amount. My first big goal at 50 patrons is an extra day off every week for art! This means more sleep and less exhaustion! I'll really push for it, so keep an eye on me for special offers.

For 2019 I'm streamlining my process of saving and submitting art files. I notice it takes forever to load full-res PNGs on my phone, and FurAffinity has a hard time displaying them correctly. What this means is I'll post resized images from now on, BUT full-size sketches and artworks will still be available in my sketchbooks, should you so desire them. Organization is good!
As for my Patreon, I did warn you it was in beta mode didn't I? After some soul searching I find I am a much better (and happier) artist when I DON'T plan what I'm going to draw any given month or day. If I just sit down and let the whim of my passions take over, my content improves in quality and quantity and it makes me giddy with freedom and excitement! The downside is I can't forecast my content. I can promise I'll draw lots of cute and sexy comics and pinups and fun animations, but I can't promise exactly how much or what of.
I'm discontinuing my $10 "sneak peek" tier until I can think of something I can promise for $10 a month that's more suited to my style. I'm removing my monthly quota too. Patrons will still get guaranteed art from me for $20/month and up, and I'm still doing lots of random gift art in streams and on Discord.
This is all very experimental, but I'm happy with the new direction I'm going in. My latest art endeavors are full of inspiration and literally make my heart beat heavier. I love drawing, I will never stop, and I thank all of you who are fans and supporters for the love and motivation you bring. Happy New Year! It's gonna be a good one.

As you can probably guess, patrons get access to sketches and PSD files and WIP files and bonus gift art and a buncha other stuff. But what you might NOT know is, for all you NOT-patrons, this (beta) launch signifies a more steady output of content, including monthly animations!
So what does "beta" mean? I only just launched and I have a lot of work to do still, such as organizing all my old files and uploading them in chunks, refining reward tiers to better match my vision, and experimenting with new content types. It's gonna be a bit bumpy for a month or two until I have it all squared away. Then I'll do a bigger, shinier, official launch.
Patreon is the first step towards achieving my dream of working as a full-time artist, making extremely cool animations and videos and tutorials and comics every day. I got what it takes and I'll prove it!

General | Posted 7 years agoCrunch time. Moving and selling a house for the next week or so. Gotta figure out internet before I can stream again, gotta install new carpet, paint walls, and settle in. And then. THEN. Then I’m away from drama and busyness, away from crazy people and major distractions, away from living paycheck to paycheck and can once again relax, focus, and draw a bunchload of jerbooty. Only a week away!

Recommended ways to use this:
• Adult pinup
• Sketch study page surrounding a theme, like "help redesign my character" or "draw lots and lots of feet"
• Telegram stickers (I can do 2 for $15 or 5 for $30)
I'll be streaming these. I plan to work on them tonight after mowing some lawn, tomorrow after work, NOT Saturday cause I'm helping my folks move, but ALL day Sunday. Then it's just finding time after work each day.

Most notably:
• NSFW is now a $5 add on instead of $10.
• "free rein" is removed.
• Lucky can be added for free (at my discretion) instead of as a $5 add on.
• Added separate prices for Concept Sketches, Ref Sheets, and Comics.
I'm doing this cause my commission offers trickled to a stop after my last change.
Most notably:
• NSFW is now a $5 add on instead of $10.
• "free rein" is removed.
• Lucky can be added for free (at my discretion) instead of as a $5 add on.

I'm learning to animate! And I need YOUR character for practice! Grab a slot and watch the fun happen!
Slot A is a head/icon sketch of any facial expression or reaction.
Slot B is a waist-up sketch of your character doing something with their hands, like eating.
Slot C is a full-body action sequence. 12 panels is not much so keep it simple.
"Sketch" animations might look something like the following:

Example: Lucky Flip
Status:
Slot A, head, $45: Aevsivs
Slot B, arms, $55: closed
Slot C, body, $80: Coonix
