Anthrocon 2015 Post-mortem (AKA, fuck greyhound)
Posted 10 years agoSo I'm still in Pittsburgh right now, just relishing in the conclusion of Anthrocon 2015, my second straight time going.
To put it bluntly, this was last-minute. Work drama led to me becoming a green apron-wearing barista once again after my godawful retail job fired me. Then I busted my ass off to get a last-minute trip to Anthrocon going!
So there's that. On top of that, Friday was an ABSOLUTE NIGHTMARE, let me tell you!
To keep this short and sweet:
- Left my apartment at 9:30 am to pick up my work paycheck.
- Made it to get my check at 10.
- Went to the bank to cash check.
- Went to O'hare to catch my flight to Pennsylvania.
- Arrived at Latrobe Arnold Palmer Airport at 3:45 PM EDT.
- Waited on a Greyhound bus due at 4:30...and waited...and waited.
- Called Pittsburgh Greyhound to find out that the bus is already there and made it to Latrobe 45 MINUTES EARLY. Fuck.
- Keep waiting for the 7:30 PM bus to Pittsburgh and wait for it. Get on it.
- Arrive at 9:45 PM, too late for me to make it to the DLLCC to reg on time.
So Friday was a write off and fuck Greyhound for making it so.
Saturday on the other hand was freaking amazing! Lots of fun, lots of fuzz. Made plenty of new friends, old friends reconnecting once more, and on top of that, I also picked up a new badge from
ziggyzoom that I commissioned at GLFC back in May. It is badass.
The fursuit parade was the biggest surprise. The amount of people that were there from the public to watch the outdoor portion they added this year was just insane. I watched it from the balcony above the convention center and I suspected there was about 5,000 people watching the spectacle. It's official, Pittsburgh freaking loves us!
Sunday came around already and I felt like things were just coming to an end way too quickly (fuck you greyhound). Erik and I were looking at artists in the alley. Also, closing ceremonies and now I'm just looking around for stuff to do. It's 8 o'clock as I type this! I'm hunting down things to do before I head back to Chicago tomorrow, hell, I just hugged my friend Lolo Fennec before she leaves the con.
This con was fleeting, and I want to come back next year already. I wish it were next year already, and I want next year to be much more awesome than just two days of this. I want the whole deal!
So yeah, that goes my little mini rant.
Fuck Greyhound so hard it goes out back to get shot like the old dying dog it is.

Posted 10 years agoI don't normally post journals like these asking for help for myself, because I don't normally ask for help from the fandom. This time is different because of circumstances and personal history.
So for those of you who don't know, my main impetus into the furry fandom was through my dear old friend Neko (anoryakana is her username here on FA). She got me into it and even helped me come up with my fursona, Aniro, nearly a decade ago. Me and her were even dating at one time during my teenage years and you'd have to know me very deeply for me to go into the whole story of our friendship and relationship. Needless to say, I still care about her because she has helped me into who I am as a person today, both in the fandom and outside of it. I don't know where I'd be or if I would have even gotten into furry if I had never met her. She's helped me with my life in the past, and now I want to return the favor because she herself has gotten into trouble.
This leads into a post on Facebook that she posted today:

Instead of gettiing a couple months to looking for someone else I was only given a little over a week. And try as I might no one seem to be responding fast enough to my replys from the ad I put on craigslist. Sure there are a bunch of people asking but if they wait 2-4 days to respond in-between replies what's the point...
I don't know what I'm going to do... I only have until Monday before I'm given an eviction notice... And with my mother and Momma-B having a baby on the way... It would just be too much on all of us. I don't know what's going too happen or where I'll be going but I'll do my best and try to make the best of it.
I want to thank all my friend who tried helping me at such short notice and thank my family for being there when all this started as I began falling apart in desporation and fear. Unfortunatly nothing worked in the end, but I still wish to thank you all from the bottom of my heart for just being there for me.
I don't know when I'll be able to really get back on here or get in contact with anyone so... I love you all and thank you. So very, very much. :')

The last thing I want is to see her life take this turn. She's already gone through her own adversities and her own life has gone through some crazy turns, as has mine. I'm not doing this to get attention, I'm doing this because I care about her and I've been homeless before, and it really really sucks.
If anyone in the southern New Hampshire area around Nashua, Merrimack, or even from Boston, hell anywhere at this point...if anyone can lend her a hand for a place to stay or for some other help, I'd be eternally grateful and I'd want to see her in such a better situation than she is now.
I myself will do whatever I can to help her, despite my own financial struggles at the moment, but rest assured I'll be by Neko to help her.

Error 404: Writing Muse Not Found

I'm lacking a lot of things in my life, especially considering I've done nearly nothing on my FA for the last six or seven months. I did post the prologue to Faraways back in October; alongside with my long-overdue character bio as well, but between my crazy work schedule, surviving the gassy gascon that was MFF, life stuff with finances afterwards that I'm still working out, and just recently turning 24 at Furry Weekend Atlanta, the beginning of 2015 has just been a whirlwind in a lot of ways.
I'm trying to garner the motivation into doing something with the written word. It's gotten to the point where I'm even debating going back to school partly because I feel like I was writing more when I was in class. I had more stimulation and ideas were more keen to appear. It's odd, but I feel like there's more to this than I thought.
My motivation and development has further been stymied by just a general sense of apathy towards my own writing. The burnouts are long and numb, and I haven't gotten into that sense of suddenly putting words to reality. Hm...I'm debating trying a few other things too...we'll see what happens.
I did also mention that I was at Furry Weekend Atlanta over the weekend just before my 24th birthday. That was an amazing con in it's own right, despite hearing about the drama that unfolded behind the scenes. There were a few little things that bugged me about it but I still made it work. Next year, I hope to be back, despite the fact that it and Motor City Fur Con have switched calendar places once again. I'll probably post a journal about FWA at some other point, whenever I've got the time to further dig into what I did at the con.
My next con is hopefully going to be Anime Central, Saturday-Sunday only this year. It'll be my first year back in two years and I'm giving this con one last chance.
Also, silvertehcoyote, ziggo, and lushlioness are dragging me to Great Lakes Fur Con next month! So here's to hopefully seeing a few of you fuzzballs there. :3

Posted 11 years agoSo here's the deal: my friend and roommate ErikLepp may need a ride to Motor City Fur Con next week, the only problem is that he has really shitty shitty work scheduling and barring a miracle of some sort, he can't make it to the con in time. He needs a ride. Would anyone be willing to help him out? I'm trying to see if he can be picked up at a halfway decent time from Ann Arbor if he has to take Metra/Amtrak/Megabus. Would anyone be willing to pick him up from Ann Arbor, Michigan at the bus station late Friday night? He and I will pay you in gas money and hugs.

Furries are such drama llamas. I can't comment on the newest controversy that "threatens to tear the fabric of Fur Affinity" apart, but I hate drama. The whole Dr. Phil soliciting furries coniption fit that stirred the fandom? I honestly don't care as long as this one idiot friend of mine doesn't attempt to speak for the fandom.

My only new year's resolution: break out and write more!
Posted 12 years agoHappy new year! As I'm typing this, we're already ten days into it, but I've had quite the holiday and honestly things couldn't be going better for me right now.
So a short recap on my life so far:
I managed to get my paws on a new laptop for Christmas and I'm really grateful to the snow lepp that got it for me. I know I sometimes don't show my gratefulness (is that even a word? also, to be honest, I can be a hardass sometimes to deal with), but I love it a lot. Perhaps this means I can break out of my burn-out, because I spend too much time just looking at things on FA and not actually posting anything! THIS MUST CHANGE FOR THE NEW YEAR!!! D:
So what does the new year entail for me? Well the barista life is fun and stressful at the same time, and the holidays meant that a lot of people came in and wanted either coffee to fuel their last-minute Christmas shopping or *gasp!* actually finish their Christmas shopping! Who knew people actually bought Christmas gifts at Starbucks, of all places. Now if only they had brought back that cute little fox that was on all of their packaging and cups. Who remembers the fox mugs from last season? :P
But seriously, I'm really looking forward to 2014. I plan on going to a few cons again this year, being more of the traveler mutt that I've become. I'm gonna be at FurSquared (if my time off request gets approved) at the end of Feburary, and that's gonna be so much fun. Since my friend
kataze is head of reg for that con, I'm gonna be nice and supersponsor! It's cheap too~
Now it's time for me to get into my one and only one new year's resolution that I have for this year: Write more. During Rainfurrest last fall, I tried getting into the writing competition. What I honestly didn't realize was that I felt as though story writing was out of my league. I don't know if I'm allowed to talk about what the prompt was for the competition, but it did involve a short story relating to the 2014 theme that was revealed at the end of the 2013 iteration of RF (Cyberpunk). Needless to say, I got lost. On top of that, cyberpunk was a whole new subgenre that I had never even thought about getting myself into, so that made it even more of a challenge. In the end, I failed to meet the contest deadline.
I've gotten published in one form of writing that I've been doing nonstop for nearly two years, but since I got published last summer, I've just felt exremely burnt out of it. Motivation has been lacking for me and on top of that, I had to deal with stresses that were insane during the fall. Jumping into a new job right before the holidays as well as paying off expenses tends to do that to ya.
So I'm not gonna hold off any longer. My new year's resolution for 2014 is simple: Post at least one new piece of writing once a month on FurAffinity, SoFurry, DeviantArt, and Weasyl (crossposting for the win!). Maybe if I'm daring enough, I could at least get started on a story or some sort of wider world development before the end of this year, but I want to get my foot in the door and go as far as to eventually get myself published within the furry fandom. I want to get my hands on more works through FurPlanet and Rabbit Valley and some other furry or comic publishers and see what it's like from that perspective on both a clean and...not so clean scale. Heheh, I want to have fun with this, and I want to make it a learning experience too.
I have dreams. I dreamt of being a writer and now here I am, published but burnt out. Let's break out of the burnout. It's time for me to rise from the ashes of it and go forth! I want you guys to follow me along and have fun with it. Tell me how I'm doing? Love it? Fave it and even share it on your Facetwit/Twitbook, or however else you social media! Hate it? Work work work, #MWFF recap, and New Year's Eve Con!
Posted 12 years agoWow, has it really been since RainFurrest two months ago that I last wrote one of these? Damn, it's been a while.
Well for starters, I got a new job a while back. I got a callback for a new job a week after RF and I got hired two weeks later. I'm now officially a Starbucks barista. It's hectic, spastic, and fast-paced as all hell, but I'm having fun with it after nearly two months.

As for other things, Midwest FurFest was this weekend. I had originally planned to room the entire weekend, but ironically, my new job kept that from happening (I had to work Friday morning, gah!). I still had a good time, but I'll be honest, most of the panels just kinda sucked this year. I think it was the theme's fault. Pirates of Lake Michigan wasn't the best thing in the world, but I can't wait for next year's! Bright Lights, Big City is the next year's theme.
Overall, I had a lot of fun, met new and old faces. I got to gopher again this year, a lot of which came on Thursday night when me,
Link4, Candis King (Wife of MFF Founder Robert King), and one other staff member sang sea shanties while setting up Art Show. That along with just generally seeing everyone that I hadn't seen in quite a while was my main highlight of the con and I can't wait for it to come by again next year. :3
Next up's the annual furry New Year's Eve party. I'm tempted to actually buy a room spot for the night and see who's willing to tag along, but I'm not sure who else would be willing to jump. I'll throw it out there and see what happens!

#RF2013 Recap, Commissions(?), MFF, and other lifey crap.
Posted 12 years agoSo what can I say other than that Rainfurrest 2013 was worth me nearly dying of a heart attack flying all the way out to Seattle for the first time. I got in on Wednesday night, and the next five days after that were just bliss. There were a few problems along the way, but I didn't let it get to me and I just enjoyed the con.
I got to meet a lot of new furs that I never met before, quite a few on Twitter that I talk to on a regular basis, and it's given me a greater appreciation of the furry fandom as a whole to see just what it's like somewhere far from home. I certainly traveled far to get to Rainfurrest this year. It's somewhere I want to go back to, to see a different look, and to just have fun! We all go to fur cons to have fun anyways, but this one was special and I've grown with it a bit.
I was surprised to see such a focus for writing at the con that I honestly had not seen anywhere else. I learned a thing or two about writers in the furry fandom at RF2013, and I'm honestly hoping to put that to good use in the near future. By the end of this month, if not right after MFF, I want to start out on some commissions for some work. I need to get more into detail about what I want to write about or don't want to do for my writing, especially if some of it involves more of the NSFW-type of work that I've really wanted to branch into for a while, but have just lacked the motivation to do so.
This probably means that I'm open to finding random prompts for genres (fiction, poetry, even screenwriting), and I'm open to someone leaving them on in my journals, or notes, or my Twitter, or my Kik (Aniro25), or wherever you can somehow catch my attention.
Seriously, give me something to write about before the creativity gets sucked out faster than a hull breach in a spaceship.

Let me poorly segway into this now: I'm still looking for a room for MFF2013 in about a month and a half from now. I didn't really want to focus on it before RF since I was busy planning for that one, but now that I have time to do so, I can focus on my room hunt for this con. I'm mainly looking for a Thursday-Monday room in the main hotel (although Friday-Monday isn't bad either). I've already got a few options on the table though so I'm weighing them all before I make a choice.
Other lifey crap includes me potentially getting a job at Starbucks. I just landed the interview and it's tomorrow! I'm excited and confident that I'll land the spot, which would be perfect timing since my hours are getting kinda shaky at my current job.
Also, I've grown an obsession to an MMO game ( kuroneko_jusan and eriklepp know which one) that's currently in closed-beta on Android right now, but I won't go into much detail about it other than it's very involving and interactive, and that you can get sucked into it. This game has become my WoW, in a sense.
So writing, gaming, Rainfurrest, MFF, and looking for ideas for both how to present commissions as well as to actually sell myself. That's the TL;DR for this. :P

I got to meet a lot of new furs that I never met before, quite a few on Twitter that I talk to on a regular basis, and it's given me a greater appreciation of the furry fandom as a whole to see just what it's like somewhere far from home. I certainly traveled far to get to Rainfurrest this year. It's somewhere I want to go back to, to see a different look, and to just have fun! We all go to fur cons to have fun anyways, but this one was special and I've grown with it a bit.
I was surprised to see such a focus for writing at the con that I honestly had not seen anywhere else. I learned a thing or two about writers in the furry fandom at RF2013, and I'm honestly hoping to put that to good use in the near future. By the end of this month, if not right after MFF, I want to start out on some commissions for some work. I need to get more into detail about what I want to write about or don't want to do for my writing, especially if some of it involves more of the NSFW-type of work that I've really wanted to branch into for a while, but have just lacked the motivation to do so.
This probably means that I'm open to finding random prompts for genres (fiction, poetry, even screenwriting), and I'm open to someone leaving them on in my journals, or notes, or my Twitter, or my Kik (Aniro25), or wherever you can somehow catch my attention.
Seriously, give me something to write about before the creativity gets sucked out faster than a hull breach in a spaceship.

Wormhole Coffee has some potent-ass coffee. I had two shots of their mocha koopa troopa today and I'm still up at four in the morning! I'm gonna be so screwed for work in five-ish hours but I don't care...if you're in Chicago and in the Wicker Park area, then try this place! You won't regret it from the moment you see the levitating DeLorean (seriously, I kid you not there's one in here).
Another aside: I suck at doing time-based journals like the confessions ones. I hope to pick that back up soon, but I've got way too much shit on my plate.
In the meantime, RAINFURREST 2013 plans are now set in stone. I have flight plans set AND I've registered for the con. Now I need to figure out one last thing: where the bloody hell am I gonna sleep during the con?!
Granted, sleep is for the meek, but I value my sleep greatly (unlike a certain Schnox I moved in with a month ago, another journal about that little exploit with ErikLepp and 
DISASTERFOX soon!), but anyways, I need a room to keep my stuff in and make new friends and stuff. So I need help. I'm blasting this out there to my Twitter, here, and my AIM (not Skype because Skype is derp with my now-broken phone).
So tl;dr: Need a room for Rainfurrest 2013. Will pay cash monies for room space even if it's on the floor. Help?

Day Ten: One confession1. I'm a very contemplative person, one who drifts off into thought a lot. Sometimes up to the point of daydreaming at times.
2. Inspiration lacks me sometimes. I've gone into points where I've gone several weeks or months without any sort of creative thought because of other things, or because I was simply too lazy.
3. I lack any real empathy towards anyone who I see as just a waste in society's very existence. Things that I experienced back in high school as well as other issues that I won't get into here have left me with a very deep and disturbing viewpoint on some of the lowest kinds of people that are out there.
4. I become too attached to people to the point where I worry that I annoy them. Those that I see frequently or those that I sometimes hang out with are just examples. I'm guilty of at times trying to impress my friends when most of the time I really didn't need to.

6. I'm not one for caring about myself a lot, in fact, I have feeling selfish. I try to actively be selfless to my friends even if it means my own expense in some way, shape, or form. I'm loyal.
7. Sometimes, I wonder what would happen if I had done certain things in my life completely differently. Would I change for the better? Or what? It's not like we can see into an alternate universe, so that's a question that we'll just continue to think about without a definitive answer.

Posted 12 years agoSo I haven't updated my journal in a while...in fact, not since Furry Connection North came around back in April. By the way, that was totally a blast, but the recap journal is long overdue for that and I should get it done soon.
That being said, a lot's happened in my life in the past few months and I want to get that out of the way.
Work has been taking over my life for the most part, but at the same time, it hasn't killed me yet. Summer is going to be very busy with lots of it, and I'm going to be making the monies while still plugging away with my life. However, I've also had to deal with other issues at the moment that I really can't talk about; partly because some of these issues are not mine, but at the same time I've gotten involved in a sense. Because of that, my con plans for this year have pretty much been uprooted, and I'm not going to make Anthrocon this year like I had wanted to.
It was really disappointing for me to come to that decision, but the biggest furry convention in the world can wait one more year, even if it means watching my Twitter and my Facebook get full of nothing but excitement as I while away my hours at work. There's always next year.
In the meantime, I'm still trying to go to Rainfurrest out in Seattle in September, and my time off request from AC got approval from my boss to be moved to the weekend of RF, so I'm looking for ride info (if anyone is passing through Chicago on the way) and room info as well because getting to Seattle is expensive no matter how you travel.
Money is a big issue in my life because even with my job, I still have to pay for life stuff...like rent. I've recently taken it upon myself to actually find a new place to stay starting as soon as the end of June. Rent isn't cheap, we all know this, so I may consider taking up some written word commissions in the very near future. I just need to find the time to actually plan it out.
Speaking of my writing (in a strictly non-furry fandom sense here, for a minute or so at least), I was published in one of Chicago's oldest literary magazines: the annual edition and the 51st edition of the Garland Court Review at my college. Proof of publication is here from the release party back in May. Yes, I did write a poem on a very controversial topic in Chicago right now, so feel free to say anything about it.
So now I can say that I'm a published writer, but I have ambitions, and I have my own desires in life that I want to achieve. I love doing what I do when I have the motivation and inspiration for it, and I want to do it even more. So I'll probably be posting up more stuff on here, my SoFurry, and my DeviantArt accounts more often in the near future. Rightfully so too, since I've had my head stuck in the clouds about this.
Eventually I want to post written commissions for you guys, but I need to plan on this ahead of time. In the meantime, I will just keep going forward with everything and see where it goes.

Math class sucks...also cons and a furmeet!
Posted 12 years agoSo I'm now running a furmeet in downtown Chicago. For those of you in the LAFF Group on Facebook (run by 
illinoisfurs), then the deets are there if you want to go!
First random thought: My math class is boring. Stagnant numbers bore me...in fact, stagnant things in general bore the hell out of me. It doesn't help that I just ran out of coffee as I'm typing this.
Second random thought: Work is fun. I love it already and I wish I had more hours.
On another note, my trip to Anthrocon this year has been cut down by a day. It's now gonna be Friday-Monday because I found out from my new job that I'm pretty much guaranteed to work on the 4th of July. Looks like an immediate Amtrak trip from Chicago to Pittsburgh is immenent in my schedule.
I've pretty much locked a room for Furry Connection North though coming up on my birthday, how many of you guys are going to FCN?
