Appreciation Post and Update
Posted a year agoWith the publication of chapter 40 of In the Shadow of Moonlight, the third full moon arc has been brought to a close. I'd like to take a moment to take a look back and talk about my plans for the story.
First, a huge thank you to all of our subscribers! I've already commissioned one round of art for the story and will be doing more soon. Second, a particularly big thank you to the Foundry's co-contributor, Nerius! Prior to him contacting me, my output had fallen to around four chapters a year. His encouragement and enthusiasm, including the creation of the first ItSoM art, led to the creation of the Lunar Foundry, the Discord and me getting my ass in gear writing the story.
When I started writing this story, I intended it to be relatively short story. I crafted the basic premise and put together a rough outline to guide the story. Then I started writing it and it took on a life of its own. After a couple of chapters I realized it was headed towards novel length. Then around chapter 10 or so, I figured I'd have to break it into two parts. That brings us to today.
The addition of Chapter 40 takes the story to date to a little over 127,000 words and the story has developed a very definite arc. In fact, I realized the way it had evolved naturally broke into three arcs. So, my plan now is the current story is the first book of three. I've recently firmed up the broad strokes of the plot for the rest of this installment and it's somewhere just past the midpoint. Books two and three are a bit more ephemeral currently, but I've started introducing elements that will important in them later on. So, if you're enjoying the story, be glad to know there is a lot more to come!
Thanks again and feel free to ask me any questions on this post!

Introducing SubscribeStar Early Access
Posted 2 years agoIn collaboration with
ShadowAnthrax , I've created a SubscribeStar! There, I'll be providing early access to In the Shadow of Moonlight chapters and we'll both be creating SubscribeStar exclusive content for subscribers. As of today, Chapter 29 is there and ready for reading. It and the next couple of chapters will be exclusive there for a week each. I'll increase that period of time as I get a rhythm going. After that period, I will post it in the usual places. While all ItSoM chapters will eventually become public, there will be subscriber exclusive content created by ShadowAnthrax and myself.
On top of early access and exclusive content, subscriptions make it easier to justify devoting more time to writing!
Thanks and awooo!!!

Announcing In The Shadow of Moonlight Discord!
Posted 2 years agoAt the suggestion of a reader, I've created a Discord server for discussing In the Shadow of Moonlight, transformations in general and just to hang out! There, we also have some concept artwork for the story. So, if you're looking to discuss the direction of the story, have a criticism or just want to chat, come on in!

Celebrating (Almost) 30,000 Words and Other Updates
Posted 5 years agoAs of Chapter 8, In the Shadow of Moonlight is at a combined 29,920 words. The story has a been a lot of fun to write and taken many twists and turns I didn't expect when I started writing it in September. I'm very pleased with how its turned out so far and look forward to writing more. As ever, a huge thanks to everyone who has taken the time to read and especially those that have given me advice and encouragement!
To date, I've been aiming for publishing a chapter every couple of weeks or so and that's been a good pace. However, I have a significant project at work I've been assigned and, between that and the holidays, I'll likely have less time to devote to writing for the next month or so. If it gets to three weeks and I haven't published, don't worry! I'm still working on the story, but it's just taking a little longer.
As ever, please don't be afraid to make suggestions, critiques or just conversation.
I hope everyone have Happy Holidays!

An Update
Posted 5 years agoHi all,
I've spent the last couple of weeks revising the first five chapters. For the most part, the changes were mostly tweaks or making the style more consistent. Aside from editing to make it feel more like we're in Sophia's head, the biggest change in the first few chapters was turning a quick mention of gym class in chapter 1 into its own scene. Other than that, the story is essentially the same.
Chapters 4 and 5 have the same sequence of events, but the narrative has changed a fair bit. Before, Sophia had pretty much embraced being a werewolf at the end of chapter 4 and was actually quite gung ho about it in 5. This didn't work for several reasons, not least of which was it didn't really feel believable. It also left too little internal conflict for the next part of the story and beyond to deal with. So, the chapters have been reworked to make Sophia far more uncertain and conflicted about what was happening to her. (Originally, I was going to go the other way and basically have her completely terrified and bunkered down for the first change. In the course of writing, I realized this wasn't going to work. Unfortunately, I wound up going too far in the other direction.)
I'll be moving on to writing Chapter 6 and the next part of the story now, but it's certainly worth rereading to see how things have changed!

A Word on In the Shadow of Moonlight
Posted 5 years agoAs mentioned in the previous journal, I’ve been lurking in the TF fandom for going on fifteen years now and this is my first time creating anything. In fact, I’ve only really gotten into ‘serious’ creative writing this year. I’m glad I did and am having a lot of fun writing Sophia’s story. Now that what I consider the first part of the story is completed, I figured I should take a moment and say a bit about it.
First, I want to thank everyone who has read the story so far and especially those who have given their thoughts and encouragement on the project. I want to extend special thanks to Dog_Girl_Kari for putting up with me and giving her invaluable insights and criticisms.
The basic concept for the story is one I’ve been kicking around for quite a few years. Essentially, the idea is someone contracts lycanthropy, but after every full moon they retain more and more lupine traits. However, how much the subject changes during each full moon and whether they retain anything is determined by whether they give into or embrace the changes. Basically, the more they act like a wolf, the more further they change. Thus, changes from the prior full moon can be reversed if they consciously avoid following their wolf instincts (however, if they continue to change on the subsequent full moon, the changes become permanent).
Originally, I planned a much smaller scale story, but, as often happens, it snowballed as I started writing. 18,000 words and five chapters later, it’s well on its way to being a full blown novel. I’ve loosely outlined the story and I expect the overall structure of it will stay the same. However, I’m still developing the characters and subplots and the story is constantly surprising me. So, the first part of the story hit the main beats I initially outlined, but how it did so bares little resemblance to how I originally thought it would.
Which brings us to where things stand now. To be clear, I consider the entire story as a work in progress and will freely be editing early chapters as it develops. As such, it will probably take me a bit longer to complete Chapter 6 as I’m going to go through the first five chapters and incorporate some things that developed over the course of writing or to address weaknesses in the plot. I also want to assess where the story is now and what needs to be covered as I move into part.
For example, you probably noticed in Chapter 5 that I started working in Sophia’s direct thoughts. A major motivation for the story is to really get into what a transformation would be like for the subject and how it affects their life and perceptions. As such, I was finding my prior writing approach to be too detached from Sophia. The consequence of this change is chapters 1-4 are now noticeably out of sync stylistically. I think the changes make for a much stronger story, but it does mean I’ll have to go back and update earlier chapters.
Despite all this, I’m very enthusiastic about this story and hope you’re enjoying reading it as much as I am writing it. I greatly appreciate feedback and am striving to improve both the story and my skills as a writer. I’d also love to answer any questions you may have about the story, so go ahead and leave them below!

First Content Incoming!
Posted 5 years agoI created this account twelve years ago for browsing Fur Affinity and enjoying the great transformation artwork and stories found here. In that time, I've been largely content to lurk. However, the creative bug has struck and I'm working on a fairly lengthy transformation story. The first two chapters are written and I'll be posting the first chapter shortly.
The premise is:
A young woman becomes a werewolf and finds she identifies strongly with her wolf side. Eventually she must choose between the human world and the wild.
