Come What May, We Shall Live On
Posted 2 years agoI was holding on to some faint hope of a reversal, but the funny folks at Furaffinity have now posted several updates where they are doubling down on the policy change and "clarifying" it in ways that only seem to raise new questions. Eevee and Mew have both been singled out as child-like pokemon, apparently, so that's a good chunk of my gallery verboten right there. I haven't specifically asked about Nymlus but I would not at all be surprised if she gets the axe too. Suffice to say that this new development on FA is completely unworkable and I must leave the website with all haste.
I already have an Inkbunny link set up on my FA profile, but as a reminder, this will be my new main account from now on: https://inkbunny.net/Anonymless
I've been trying to refollow everyone I know on Inkbunny, but it's been difficult to find people since not everyone has linked their accounts together. Understandably, considering that FA often takes action against people who link to IB accounts containing "forbidden works". But if you are planning to move to IB with me, I would urge you to accept this risk and shout it from the rooftops so that all may find you when the night comes. Feel free to comment below if you think I've missed someone in my following spree.
If you're curious how I plan to handle my content going forward, IB is where I will post future journals although I might crosspost them here with another reminder to follow me on IB instead. Any stories not containing human sex will also be posted there directly. Stories with humans will be posted as empty submissions with links in the description to the places where they can be found. I will make no changes in terms of the subject matter of my stories. I'll also post a submission representing the latest version of SummonerRL, just as I have done here - I won't repost the old versions to IB since they're obviously out of date.

The Final Days
Posted 2 years agoI imagine your inbox is looking the same as mine does now. Confusion, despair and rage over a totally pointless policy update that is going to obliterate the Pokemon fandom on this site overnight when it goes into effect. Well, that's my reading of the events anyway. I'm not one to panic over Furaffinity scandals most of the time, but I think I'm done with FA if they go forward with this change.
I won't commit to anything specific just yet, because there's still time for the mods to realize they're retarded and retract the policy. If they do that, I'll just pretend this never happened and move on. But if July 1st comes and the policy is still in play, then I plan to move to Inkbunny as my main site. Unlike FA, Twitter and almost everywhere else, I actually know the guy who runs IB and I trust him a great deal. I have his contact information and can just ask him directly if I ever have a question about IB policies. So that's a 10 out of 10 on transparency as far as I'm concerned.
The reason I haven't been on IB in the past, and why it's kind of a pain in the ass, is that they don't allow uploading erotic human content. If you've been following me here, you'll know that's pretty much my whole deal. 90% of what I do involves humans in some capacity and so violates IB's upload policy. There is a solution though! - Unlike Furaffinity's moderation team, who are always looking for excuses to ban you, Inkbunny will only take action against content that is literally hosted on their servers. If you link to another host, it's completely fine. So you actually can submit human art and stories there, as long as it is hosted elsewhere and linked to in the post description. I'll just have to figure out what that host would be. It'll have to be something very stable to ensure the links will remain valid for many years.
This is a very unfortunate development, but I'm gonna pull through it somehow. I would be sad to lose this profile, since I've had it for 16 years. But what can you do, eh? Nothing to it but to press on and take the piss out of those that would presume to control you. Reject their reality and substitute your own.

Strike the Comet
Posted 2 years agoProbably most of you are already following
insomniacovrlrd but I'm gonna try spreading the word anyway! He made a classic-style shoot'emup called Comet Striker:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayOxbKA1UMs
It's been difficult to keep this a secret over the years, because I really enjoy the game and want it to succeed. I'm glad that Insomniac has finally decided to make it public so that I can recommend it to people. And I hope they'll be able to bring the game to Switch at some point (even though Nintendo are a buncha jerks) because I think it'd be perfect for it.
Me and Insomniac go a long way back. I remember we even tried making some games together back in the day, but those plans didn't work out and we went on our separate game developer ways. I launched the SummonerRL project, and he founded Iced Lizard Games with another crew that has been putting out some really cool stuff. I'm excited to see more of their games in the future!

On Adoptables
Posted 2 years agoThis space has been quiet in recent years, and I apologize for that. Ever since Discord showed up, it seems like most of my social activity has moved over to one of the many Discord servers that I've joined so far, and whatever thoughts I would have typed into a journal are instead dumped in whatever channel I happen to be browsing at that moment. But I wanted to talk about adoptables here, since it merits a longer post.
Adoptables, as you know, are character designs sold by artists to buyers, either for a fixed price or by auctioning them off to the highest bidder. The buyer then receives the character, though what this means isn't entirely clear. Legally speaking, there is no such concept of passing ownership of a character to another. The artist holds the copyright for any characters they create, and they can license the use of those characters to others. This license, unless specified otherwise, is non-exclusive and revocable, meaning that the artist could technically license the same character to multiple people or revoke any of those licenses at any time.
Furthermore, I've noticed a recent trend of artists selling Pokemon adoptables for large amounts of money. The already shaky legal basis for selling adoptables is made even more precarious by involving intellectual property which the artist doesn't even possess in the first place. It is as if someone changed the color and gem pattern of Anolise and then resold her for hundreds of dollars without asking me or the artist who drew her reference sheets.
This is all very different from the practice of commissioning art. In a typical commission, you are paying the artist to draw something for you, and are granted a license to use the art in specific ways (typically, for non-commercial purposes and with credit to the artist). The artist still owns the art that was created, and you merely helped to bring it into existence. In the case of adoptables, the artist has already produced the work and is retroactively seeking payment for it by transferring "ownership" of the work to a buyer. And not just the work, but the character represented in it as well.
Regardless, in most cases adoptables don't bother me very much. They are legally dubious, but so are many other things that furries do, like selling commissions based on existing IP. It does amuse me when furries complain about NFTs citing legal concerns when they don't seem to care about how copyright works anywhere else. And I think it is unethical to sell Pokemon adoptables in general - at the very least, I believe they should be heavily discounted since the artist did not come up with the original design. But I'm curious what you think about them.

Posted 4 years agoHow are you all doing? We live in interesting times, and I don't take anything for granted these days. But I'm doing well so far. Me and Clawdragons continue to make progress on the AVATAR SummonerRL project, and we're gearing up to release another big update in the coming month.
Playtesting remains a bottleneck for us as a development team. The game has a lot of content at this point, and it takes a lot of time to go through it all and gather enough data to make any comment on the state of things. If you have any experience or interest in QA, this is your chance to make a difference. I'm willing to pay by the hour at this point. This may be a passion project for the two of us, but it's hard to find any others who share enough of that passion to perform these routine tasks. Just let me know if you can help and I'll hook you up with the files.
Also, I may not be much of a writer anymore, but I'm still interested in stories. If anyone here has the inclination to write, on commission or by request, I'd love to hear from you as well. You can check my F-List for the sort of kinks that would be likely to appear in the work: https://www.f-list.net/c/nymlus/

Cushion Castle
Posted 5 years agoYou may have heard of this site before. Pillowfort - it's the new Tumblr, apparently. Like the old Tumblr, which is to say, filled with furry porn.
I made an account last week, and have followed a few other blogs, but not that many yet. If you have an account there and I already know you from here, let me know! I'm interested in expanding my castle o' cushions a bit.
Also, I have some of these fancy Pillowfort registration codes. They give you a couple each week to hand out to prospective users. It doesn't cost me anything, so just tell me if you want one, and I'll either give you one of the week's remaining codes or write your name down for the next time I get some codes.
In the past, my Tumblr blog was specifically Nymlus-related. I think this time around, I will be doing a more general purpose blog for all of my characters and for any porn I find pleasing. I might repost some of my old commissions there, as well, so keep an eye on this page.

SummonerRL on Discord
Posted 6 years agoNo, I don't mean the Discord game store (fortunately). I've created a Discord server for discussion of SummonerRL. You can find it here:
https://discord.gg/f3eNDDB
As of this writing there are 16 people in the server and they are a pretty affable crowd, all in all. Join them to talk about important topics like "why are all of the summons male?" and "what exactly do the herbs do? no, seriously" as well as try your luck at being the first of them to actually beat the game.
This will also henceforth be the primary venue of interaction for beta testing purposes. I will be posting any WIP builds there in the private testing channel. If you are curious and interested in helping out, you can sign up to be a beta tester and gain access to this content before it's released to the public.

Testers Wanted; Comics Offered
Posted 6 years agoI figured I would post a reminder about the Knotted Wood comicbook, which is still very much around and for sale on Gumroad even after the Tumblrpocalypse pretty much erased the Nymlus blog from existence:
https://gumroad.com/l/KnottedWood
If you are a fan of Nymlus and/or doggy dicks, and you have $10 + $5 to pay for the comicbook and the shipping ($13 only if you live in Sweden!) you too can own a copy of this incredibly lewd magazine. The two pages at the end of the book are exclusive to the physical edition as a treat to our supporters. Optionally you can have the book signed by yours truly. Getting this book printed and sold has been a really cool experience, and though my current relation to Floraverse is best described as "complicated", I still look back fondly on this project and have to say there's something fascinating about having porn of yourself on your bedside table.
Next topic. I'm looking for beta testers to help with the development of SummonerRL! Me and Clawdragons are hard at work putting together the next public release. Due to the scope of the changes, having some more people try it out ahead of time would be a great benefit to us. It doesn't matter if you are new to roguelikes or have extensive experience with them - all perspectives are welcome. You can contact me via PM here on FurAffinity or talk to me over Telegram (username: nymlus) and I'll send you the files.

Emotions Now Included
Posted 7 years agoIf you haven't been paying attention to my long-running game project, SummonerRL, I recommend checking it out - we've just released a major update to it which adds a plethora of features such as high scores and familiar moods. You can find it right here in my gallery on FA and it is of course free to download. This roguelike has been a work in progress for many years now and I am proud of what we have achieved so far. But I couldn't have done it without my trusted partner, clawdragons, whose boundless enthusiasm and dedication has provided me with consistent access to feedback, testing, balancing and design of the monsters and familiars that now populate our humble dungeon.
Still there are a number of tasks left before I could be truly satisfied with our work. Notably, the leisure option at the campsite is still missing. It's taking some time for us to implement it, precisely because of how important it is to our vision of the game and how we have to make sure it's done right. Rest assured that we are as committed as ever to continuing the game's development.
That said, I'm always open to story ideas. It is rare for these ideas to coalesce in my mind into a concept that I feel confident about putting on paper, but I still love to hear any ideas you might have, even (or especially) if they are blatantly pornographic ones. Species, themes and acts, throw whatever you've got at me, and perhaps something will stick. That's all I had to say for now. Have a good one!

The big problem with YCH auctions...
Posted 7 years agoWell, aside from how none of my characters have an anthropomorphic body shape, which immediately rules me out of bidding on most auctions. The problem is that usually, each character in the image is being auctioned at the same time, to different people. Which means that when you place the bid you don't even know who your character will end up having sex with. Sometimes you don't even know their gender until the bidding is complete.
Do any of you enjoy this element of YCH auctions? Is the mystery of purchasing the pig in the poke something that appeals to you? I believe I've only bid on YCHs twice in all these years, and both times there was only one character being auctioned in the image. I imagine artists make less money that way for obvious reasons, but having exclusive control of the result is better for the customer in my eyes.

Empirical Research
Posted 8 years agoFollowing up my previous journal, I was curious if this decline I noticed in audience activity could be attributed to other factors, and I was also curious if it was localized to FurAffinity in particular. So in order to study this, I posted the story Just Like Her simultaneously to four other websites. Below is the data I have collected so far from the posting of the story to these sites. Note that most of my own engagement with the community occurs on FurAffinity which means that it is somewhat unfair to compare the FA numbers to the other sites. If my main gallery was elsewhere, that site would probably have received an artificial boost in readers just from followers of my account receiving the story in their notification box. For the non-FA sites, the majority of readers is from people actively discovering the story through browsing recent uploads or searching for tags that were applied to the story.

Decline
Posted 8 years agoI can't help noticing that reader engagement appears to be steadily dropping, and theorizing on why it might be so. A couple years ago, I could sneeze out a low-effort piece about a Pikachu blowing two other Pokemon and receive standing applause within hours. Nowadays, I consider myself lucky if I get more than one comment. Looking at what I posted back then, I do feel that I have improved much as a writer, but this is not reflected in the numbers - even when I write stuff that strikes all the same thematic notes as my old work (Pokemon sex, with or without any plot to back it up).
But when I consider that I experienced the same trend of declining engagement in the story contests, where my own writing was absent, I think it just has to do with a waning interest in Pokemon stories overall. And that would be a shame, for sure. I'll carry on writing regardless, but hearing the response from my audience on a new submission is/was a major part of the motivation for why I began writing in the first place. Fellow authors, relate to me your own understanding of the matter. Am I totally off the mark in thinking that the golden age of Pokemon porn has passed?

Hurrah for Story
Posted 8 years agoI'm back from Denmark vacation, and I have something to post. Well, within the week or so. There's a scene left to write, and a touch of editing perhaps, but it's so close to finished now that even my spectacular laziness can't stop this project from reaching its goal.
This one is actually based on a request someone made, but it's been so long that I'm not sure if they remember who I am. Well, it matters not. The reason I kept it on my to-do list for all these years is that it was just a really good idea. I knew I had to write it at some point. It just ended up happening later rather than sooner.
When I sat down to write in Denmark, I realized just how much I've developed as a writer since I first joined this site. The words were just flowing onto the page, and I kept surprising myself with delightful turns of phrase. I hope that you all will enjoy this story as much as I do. It's really something quite special, and it's at six thousand words and counting.
That's all I had to say. I've been sitting in a car for fifteen hours this weekend and my everything is hurting. I'm gonna collapse in bed for a bit, but I'll see you all again very soon.

Heck. Heck! They're getting rid of the Gift to Inventory feature! And they're trying to spin this as a positive change?
This was the only reason I was able to do contests with Steam games as prizes before. I'll have to think of some other prize if I do any more contests in the future.

Now published on itch.io
Posted 9 years agoI have published a SummonerRL page on the games site itch.io:
https://nymlus.itch.io/summoner
There you will always be able to download the most recent version of the game available to the public, and I have also added a discussion board to the page where you can talk about anything you want related to SummonerRL. Note that this is the SFW page - when I start to release adult versions of the game, they will be posted on a separate page.
The game is listed as a "name your price" download with a minimum of $0. You will always be able to get this game for free - including here on FurAffinity - but this is one way for you to support future development of SummonerRL should you wish to do so.

The game is listed as a "name your price" download with a minimum of $0. You will always be able to get this game for free - including here on FurAffinity - but this is one way for you to support future development of SummonerRL should you wish to do so.
The Reveal
Posted 9 years agoI've dabbled in a variety of disciplines. I write a lot of stories, sure. I've also made some crude drawings, briefly tried my hand at music, and worked on a number of video games in my spare time. The problem with all this is that when I get really enthusiastic about some particular hobby, the other will necessarily take a backseat to it. During the last couple months, I haven't posted any stories at all, primarily because I've been all fired up about a specific project that I'm working on.
The project is called SummonerRL, and it is a collaboration between me and
clawdragons - I write all the code and do the initial gameplay design, while Clawdragons creates all the game content such as monsters and items, provides additional input on design and acts as the chief playtester with the responsibility of balancing the game elements to ensure an enjoyable experience.
On the surface it's a fairly traditional roguelike, in which players delve as far as they can into a deep dungeon swarming with savage creatures. It borrows heavily from the classics such as ADOM and Brogue that have inspired me greatly over the years. But it also gives the formula a special twist, which is hinted at by the game's title.
SummonerRL is about a nature-wizard who descends into the dungeon to stop the spread of corruption emanating from its depths. At her side she can summon up to two companions to help her complete the mission. Perhaps she is joined by a white wolf, a fiercely loyal canine that will follow her commands without fear or hesitation. Perhaps she instead brings the raw power and majesty of a dragon to the battlefield. Perhaps she favors the sharp senses and trickery of a spotted snake, snapping at the enemy's weak points with his scales shimmering in a brilliant magical display.

These familiars are essential to your success - so important are they that each of them has its own key modifying all other commands in the game. For example, the U key normally opens the inventory to select an item to use on the summoner. However, if you hold Control and press U, you will instead use the item on one of your familiars. Or you press I to examine an item, and then press Control+I to have your pet take a look at it too. Skillful play involves taking full advantage of the abilities of your feral friends to perform complex maneuvers throughout the dungeon.
The plan is that eventually, this game will even contain some adult content in which your summoner can interact with these creatures in both a romantic and sexual manner. I'm going to distribute two different versions of the game, one with the adult content included and another one for the more squeamish audience. It's my hope that this will bring about the best experience for everyone.
If all goes well, the first public release will be made available one or two days from now! Keep an eye out for more announcements in the close future.

Suggestion Box
Posted 9 years agoA little questionnaire to sate my curiosity. This pertains only to written work produced by myself. If I write a story, consider the following.
What setting do you prefer a story to be about: Pokemon, Floraverse, or something else?
What characters (or species) do you want to be involved in the story?
What fetishes/kinks (if any) do you wish to see in the story?
Do you prefer a short story, a long but self-contained story, or a multi-chapter story?
Do you prefer the tone of the story to be: serious, casual, or wacky?

Knotted Wood
Posted 9 years agoThe big Nymlus comic project, Knotted Wood, is being published now. You can find the pages earliest on my Nymlus blog. The comic is also posted on ForbiddenFlora and in the gallery of
insomniacovrlrd after a short delay.
Two new pages will be posted each day until the comic has been fully released. This is by far the biggest project Nymlus has been involved in since the character's creation, so I hope you will enjoy it. Feel free to repost the comic on other sites as long as credit is given to the artist, and let me know any comments you might have.

Furry Network and Pokemon Pornography
Posted 9 years agoI am sure most of you have heard of Furry Network by now. This website, being developed by Bad Dragon, is intended to be the "next generation" of furry sites, offering various newfangled features like a Facebook-esque activity feed and an inbuilt merchant system. And indeed, I was rather impressed when I tried using it. Furry Network even imports your followers from FurAffinity, so my account already has a large amount of followers even though I've not yet posted any stories to the site.
Unfortunately, this sleek design hides a sinister interior. The decisions made by Furry Network administrators over the past few weeks have been questionable to say the least. It started with their decision to take down Herpy, a community for reptile enthusiasts. Herpy was run by the same company, and it was especially popular among zoophiles because of its exotic reptile-related content. However, this connection to zoophile community proved inconvenient for Bad Dragon, who wanted to look professional so that they could attract users to Furry Network. So Herpy is no more, taken away suddenly after 11 years of life.
The next controversy came when a certain FA user started a campaign to have cub pornography banned on Furry Network. The argument was, such content would make many users uncomfortable and they claimed that banning it was necessary for the site's growth. This FA user had an extremely large following (over 20000 watchers) so they were able to pour a gigantic number of votes into the poll, making it appear as if the overwhelming majority of users were in favor of a ban on cub porn. Furry Network's admins implemented the ban only a day after the poll was posted. The poll was then closed for comments, and any new threads on the issue are now deleted, indicating that they do not wish to discuss the matter any further.
At this point you might object. FurAffinity also has rules against cub porn, so why is this a big deal? Surely, if I am okay with cub porn being banned on FurAffinity (I'm not, but let's forget about that for now) then it shouldn't matter to me if it's also banned on Furry Network...
Well, the trouble is in how to enforce this rule. Everyone has their own idea of what should be considered a "cub", and it's generally quite hard to determine someone's age simply by looking at them, and especially so if the person in question is a fantasy creature. Depending on what the admins choose to remove, two websites which both have a "cub porn ban" can function very differently in practice.
Furry Network's admins have decided that all Pokemon under the category of "Baby Pokemon" are cubs. Therefore, the following Pokemon are no longer allowed in pornography on Furry Network: Pichu, Cleffa, Igglybuff, Togepi, Tyrogue, Smoochum, Elekid, Magby, Azurill, Wynaut, Budew, Chingling, Bonsly, Mime Jr, Happiny, Munchlax, Riolu and Mantyke.
Note that all of these are currently allowed on FurAffinity. What this means is that, if you plan to draw Pokemon pornography, then I would advise you to remain here on FurAffinity instead of moving to Furry Network, where the rules regarding which Pokemon can be used in porn are going to be much stricter.
Personally, I've decided not to use Furry Network. I do not trust their leadership after seeing their reckless behavior both in and outside of FN. I worry that their attempts to look "professional" will inspire them to force even more limits on kinky artwork in the future. It will take much effort for them to regain my trust.

Story Contest 5: Results, and an Apology
Posted 9 years agoIt's time for me to write a journal - one that was long overdue, the conclusion of a tale likely long-forgotten by its writers. Last year, there was a contest, and three stories were submitted. I promised a reward of two video games to be distributed among those participants. That has not happened yet, and I take full responsibility for this failure.
I won't tell you about the personal troubles that led to things playing out the way it did, because it's no excuse for leaving the contest unfulfilled for such a vast amount of time. I could have finished it much earlier and I didn't. I am sorry.
So who was the winner of this contest? Well, it was going to be Qwazzy. I found his story about the misadventures of science quite enjoyable. All three of the submissions were great, but that's the one that stood out to me.
But I'm now at a dilemma, because that story has been deleted from his gallery. You can only find it if you browse through an archive folder linked from his profile. The spirit of these contests has been to promote writing and encourage authors to share and to read each other's stories. Because of this, I feel that I can't award a prize for a story that is no longer submitted to any website.
I've made the following decision. ALL THREE of the writers who participated may pick a game from the contest prize list. However, Qwazzy cannot claim his prize unless he reposts his story to his gallery first. If he does not wish to do so, then only Flygon and Delete341 will receive prizes. I think that should be fair to everyone involved.
I am sorry, again, for how things turned out with this contest. In the future, I will not attempt to judge contests on my own again. I've proven myself incapable of this task. From now on, I will ask a friend to handle any such decisions, and I will simply contribute with the rewards given to the winner they decide upon.

Story Contest 5: Countdown and Submission List (CLOSED)
Posted 10 years agoAt midnight, the contest will close and no new submissions will be accepted. If you are entering the contest, make sure that your story is sent to me before that time (preferably by posting it in your own gallery and linking it).
I will make a list of all submissions received in this journal. If you have a story and don't see your name on the list then let me know as soon as possible.
flygon - One Ride
delete341 - The feline forest guardians
qwaszxq - Lab Accident
They're reminding her! And then they're going to remind me!
Posted 10 years agoOh my god! Check out the contest journal before it's too late: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6850464/
Deadline is midnight at the end of July, Central European Time so that means you have about nine days to finish your story. You've started working on one, right?
Cheers~

You there! Let me bend your ear for a moment!
Posted 10 years agoIf you hadn't noticed, there's a contest going on right now where YOU can participate! It's about writing a transformation story. Aside from the TF, you can include any theme you want in the story. Here is the link to the contest journal: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6850464/
Maybe you'd like some ideas to get you started. Why not write a story about a human character turning into a cute little critter? It's a fun way to get the reader invested in the story. Helps you relate.
Evolution is technically a kind of transformation, too. You could write a story about a Pokemon evolving into its more advanced counterpart, and see how they react to this change. Maybe they evolved as a reaction to a dramatic event of some sort?
Or you could experiment with the gender of the characters. I commissioned a story a while ago where two partners swapped gender with one another, which amused me a great deal.
Anyway, it's been quiet in the contest so far. I don't think there are many people working on things yet. So that means you have a good chance of grabbing a Steam game of your choice. Here's the list of games you can win: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4627255/
