2023 General Update (Hoodie and Kigu Commission Info)
Posted 2 years agoHi folks!
It’s almost summer and you know what that usually means!
… Only, this year it doesn’t.
It has been an incredibly busy year for me, with a move across the province, prepping for and working 6 conventions (4 in the midst of moving chaos), and taking on 16 hoodie and kigu commissions, on top of regular shop orders and designing new things. Add on mental health struggles, burnout, household management, catching covid twice, 2 family emergencies, adopting a puppy disguised as a kitten, and I am exhausted.
Something has had to give, and unfortunately, custom hoodies and kigus are it; I’m taking a break from custom hoodie and kigurumi commissions this summer.
I’m tentatively hoping to take on a limited number of custom commissions this Fall, but I don’t have a date set, and if I’m still feeling too squeezed for time I’ll likely hold off on reopening. It’s been a tough decision to make, but I want to continue making stuff to the best of my abilities, and my best is better when I’m not a smoking husk ;3
Thanks again for all of your continued support!
Oh! And if you’re planning to attend Fur-Eh! this summer, feel free to swing by and say hi! I’m thrilled to announce (late here, haha) that I’m their Guest of Honor this year!!!

General Update
Posted 4 years agoHi folks!
Just popping in to say I'm still alive (the upload dump probably gave that one away), and working away at hoodies, kigus, and other fun furry merch. I'm looking forward to conventions hopefully being safe and opening up again. My partner and I will be at TFF this March, and are tentatively planning to be at BLFC this summer.
I'll also be at VancouFur and FurEh! Exciting stuff!
I expect to reopen for hoodie and kigu commissions in late May/early June of this year, as I usually do, but I don't have dates yet. Pricing will be the same as last year: Hoodies starting at $200 usd and Kigus starting at $500 usd.
I hope you all are well, and staying safe!

Popping in for an update!
Posted 5 years agoHi folks!
Popping online today to upload some of my recent commission work, and new designs. I've really been neglecting my gallery here. I realized today(!) that I still haven't even uploaded pictures of last year's summer commissions. And there were SO MANY of them ;A;
So I'll have to do that at some point, too.
For now, thanks for your patience as I flood your inboxes.
Hoodie and Kigu commissions are open for another day; the google form is here: https://docs.google.com/forms/d/1Ec.....MYsRyh3_4/edit
Thanks for your continued support! Be kind, Be safe.

VancouFur, Commissions, Etc.
Posted 7 years agoOh my gosh what happened to the last two months?? yikes. I haven't done ANY updates and that's just crazy because I do have stuff to update - between con-prep and my Day-Job, i've been terrible with keeping up.
---
I'll be vending again this year at VancouFur! Look for me at table 20. I'll have hoodies and kigus, a neat skull, and some other odds and ends with me!
I'm also running panels on Fursuit Repair (Friday from 6-7pm), and Kigu Making (Saturday from 3:30-4:30)
---
Commissions are still closed: my Day-Job is crazy right now.
I expect to reopen for custom hoodies and kigus in Mid-May, right around BLFC (which I'll be attending again this year!)
As always, custom commissions aren't first come first served: I'll open for a length of time, and choose from applicants based on character design and interest.

Anthro Northwest Post-Con Write-Up
Posted 8 years agoI don’t normally do convention write-ups, but I think that Anthro Northwest definitely deserves one, especially as a new convention (that received a lot of undue negative attention and rumour-mongering, particularly from non-attendees).
What is Anthro Northwest? A new convention in the Pacific Northwest, catering specifically to the furry arts (from drawing to suit making, and everything in between). I hadn’t initially planned on attending, but the con-bug hit me pretty hard and when I ended up with a table in the Dealers’ Den, it was pretty much a done-deal.
It’s a family friendly convention, which means there was no adult content visible (or present?), and anyone overly intoxicated was asked to leave until they sobered up. The staff were pretty serious about their dress code and code of conduct, as well, and likewise, folks dressed in clothing primarily associated with sexual activity were asked to change before entering con space. That said, I had an absolutely wonderful time. There was an established standard for behaviour that made me feel far more comfortable than I do at other conventions. The staff were helpful, friendly, and not at all creepy! From what I could see, the con ran smoothly and professionally. With the exception of that One Big Thing.
They ended up having a film crew present, and didn’t inform the attendees until the day of the convention. According to the agreement, however, filming/appearances were opt-in, meaning anyone who did not specifically sign a release will have their faces blurred. Suiters, however, were not given the option to opt-in, but rather, to opt-out. This all sounds pretty sketchy, but honestly, I saw the film crew twice, the entire weekend, and both times they were friendly, professional, and were taking pains to avoid filming anyone other than their subjects (eg. in the Dealers’ Den, they made a point of focusing the camera on open spaces like doorways and aisles, rather than at individual tables).
The panels and talent at this con were amazing! With a focus on craftsmanship, things were right up my alley. I actually nearly missed dinner more than one night, to attend panels like Using Thermoplastics, Casting Resin, and Advanced Airbrushing. I learned a ton of cool new techniques, and hopefully I can put them to use in my own practice.
The only downside to the con (for me), was the hotel bed, which was extremely uncomfortable @m@ but that had nothing to do with Anthro Northwest.
Overall, it was definitely worth attending, and I’m really glad I went. I’ll definitely be wishing everyone luck in the following years, and plan to keep this con on my calendar :D

Hoodie and Kigu commissions: open tomorrow through the 8th!
Posted 8 years agoI got a little carried away with BLFC prep, and also crazy Day-Job stuff, so I haven't been as diligent with advertising this time... but! Hoodie and Kigu commissions open TOMORROW (June 1st), and will remain open until the 8th, at 11:59pm (pacific time)!

Animal Print Hoodies and BLFC (OMG!)
Posted 8 years agoWow, the time flies!
I got word about a month ago that I was accepted for a Dealers Den table at BLFC, in Reno! Holy Smokes!
This'll be my first time dealing at a convention other than VancouFur, and to say it's intimidating is a grand understatement.
(But it's also pretty exciting! Hopefully I'll get to meet some more of you :D)
I'm already sewing dangerously fast (along with juggling my day-job, which has really picked up), and the sewing machine has char marks on it!
Most of the stock i'm bringing will be pre-made hoodies with realistic animal prints, but I'll also have some mini sushi and sashimi plushies, as well as a few tails, keychains, and vinyl stickers, and maybe even a few skull masks!
I'll also be organizing an Apoxon Industries photoshoot (not sure what day, yet. Possibly Sunday?)
---
Not attending BLFC, or just want to get your paws on an animal print hoodie early? There are a few listed up on my Etsy shop, now!

Hoodie and Kigu FAQ!
Posted 9 years agoA straight-forward FAQ, because it's about time i had one up here!
---
How much are your hoodies/kigus?
Hoodies start at $200 USD, and kigus start at $500 USD
Both vary in price based on the complexity of your character (how many details and markings there are, and how many different colours), as well as how much embroidery the character will require (if any). If you'd like a more accurate quote, you'll need to email me at apoxon [dot] industries [at] gmail.com, while I am open for commissions.
Why do you need a refsheet in order to make my hoodie/kigu?
I would much rather have a 360 view of your character (or pictures with front, side, and back views), so that there is no room for misunderstandings on markings, etc. It also means I don't have to pester you frequently about markings and what they look like, leading to a faster completion of your hoodie.
What do you mean by a dye-sublimated/printed hoodie/kigu, and why are they generally cheaper?
A printed (also known as dye-sublimated) hoodie/kigu is one that I design and have literally printed onto a low-loft (thin) fleece. Dye sublimated fabric is completely safe to machine wash, but does experience mild pilling which is easily brushed out with a soft bristle brush.
They are generally cheaper for more complex characters, as markings do not need to be individually sewn in; I can design them digitally and have them printed directly, turning hours, sometimes days of work, into minutes. While the fabric itself is more expensive, the time this process saves is incredible.
Why is embroidery more expensive than just having my markings sewn on?
Embroidery requires more thread, and additional materials (stabilizers), that must be tacked/sewn down prior to embroidering. My machine is not an embroidery machine, and I work with a tight zig-zag stitch that replicates simple embroidering. With the machine running at full-throttle, an embroidered marking approximately 8"X10" can take 20-30 minutes to complete.
If a marking can be sewn in, rather than embroidered (eg. a different stomach color), I do, however some markings (eg. Spots and stripes) cannot be sewn in without embroidery.
Why do you embroider your markings, instead of sewing them on?
I only send off work that I’m proud of, and embroidered markings give the hoodies and kigus a finished and professional look. Every garment I make is a wearable work of art, and I want it to be absolutely perfect for you – no cutting corners!
What kind of materials do you use?
I primarily use fleece for my hoodies, however, upon request, I can also use minky or sweat-shirt material. Please note that these materials may be more expensive than fleece, and may raise the price of your commission.
I can also use dye-sublimated fleece, which is thinner than traditional kigu fleece, and more like sweatshirt material.
How do you decide what hoodie liners to use for each hoodie? What if I don't want a colourful liner?
I always ask whether you'd like a loud (colourful/busy patterned) liner, or a more subtle one (single colour/muted colours, etc.). Liners are based on the colour of your fursona's eyes, or on your own specifications (things you like, hobbies, interests, etc.).
If you specify a theme, I’ll do my best to find a that matches perfectly!
You can also design your OWN liner here: http://www.spoonflower.com/welcome
once you've designed it, we can totally use that design to line your hoodie!
Please note you are responsible for designing and ordering your own spoonflower liner, if you choose to design it yourself!
How fast can you sew a Hoodie/Kigu?
Once fabric has arrived (approx. 5 days after the order is placed for traditional fabric; 3-4 weeks for dye-sublimated fleece), hoodies take approximately 6-16 hours, and kigus take 7-20, on average.
*please note dye-sublimated hoodies and kigus often take less time.
If you can sew a Hoodie/Kigu in approximately 3 days, why is your turn-around time 10 weeks?
There are two reasons for this.
1- Sewing is not my Day-Job.
My Day-Job takes priority, but it is unpredictable- sometimes I work 5 days a week, and other times I work 1. This means some weeks I have no days to sew, and others I sew every day.
2- I take multiple commissions each time I open, and work on them (generally) one at a time. The working order is generally based on fabric availability and shipments, which in turn effect turn-around times.
How much is shipping?
All products are shipped from Canada and include tracking and insurance.
Shipping to Canada is typically approximately $30 USD
Shipping to the USA is approximately $40 USD
International postage can be quite pricy, and averages aroud $100-$130. Email me for exact quotes
Plesase note: These are estimates only. Prices vary by Province/State/Country.
What kinds of payments do you accept?
I currently only accept PayPal.
Why are your prices in US Dollars?
Most of my customers are American, and dealing in US dollars is simpler (and less intimidating, given the exchange rate). Additionally, as I order my fabric from American suppliers (whose prices are in US Dollars), it makes managing my finances simpler.
US prices also help me keep my prices competitive, so that I’m not undercutting fellow artisans.
Can I pay you in installments?
I accept payments in installments: I ask for a 50% (non-refundable) down payment, with the remaining 50% (along with shipping) to be paid upon completion.
Why is your down payment non-refundable?
I charge a non-refundable down payment to cover the cost of materials as well as my time/the time spent working.
If, for unforeseeable reasons, I am unable to complete your commission, YOU WILL RECEIVE A COMPLETE REFUND (please see my Terms of Service for more on this: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/7533633/)
Will you make me a hoodie of a character I’ve seen on TV/Comics/Someone Else's Character/etc.?
I do occasionally sew licensed characters, however I will under no circumstances sew someone else’s character (unless it’s a birthday/Christmas/surprise present).
