incoming vent journal. ~_~ this isn't directed at anyone in particular, and especially no one who watches me on this site, but there are some things i've been seeing in the art community in general that just bug me beyond all measure. i really can't stand people who think they're the bee's knees when they really are not. ego trips are BAD and are not respectable at ALL.

here are some things that will not make me respect you as an artist!

1. <sub>ing all of your text, or otherwise typing in an unreadable typeface/color/size
2. using comic sans ms unironically
3. using emoticons that do not exist, i.e. `U`, r_r, ^n^, ORZ, otl*
4. using at least one of them after every single sentence.
5. speaking broken english on purpose, and unironically, because all of the people whose art styles you're emulating don't speak english as a first language and you want to be as popular as they are**

soooo my halloween plans were kind of crushed without me knowing about it until the last minute. |: so i spent the day doing pretty much nothing! i'm not really upset about it, just disappointed that i ended up wasting time and money on a costume that'll never get used. but whatever, it's not the biggest waste of money i've ever had, so i guess i don't have much room to complain?

i was having a pretty good day up until i got back to my desk and saw that someone is apparently still carrying a year(s)-old grudge against me and attacking my comments that aren't even SLIGHTLY directed at her. what i think is kind of ironic about this is that i continued to trust in her, and think she was an okay person, even after our mutual friends flipped shit and permanently kicked her out of their house, and yet apparently she's best friends again with them (uh, what?) and still being a bitch back at me. wow! what a great way to keep my respect for you.

this probably is not the best place to be saying any of this, yes. but hey, at least on FA i can vent to people i know won't go back and talk dirty about me to the people i'm describing, since nobody here who reads my journals knows my RL friends. xD

i've got an appointment with the eye doctor scheduled for this saturday.

my eye still hasn't gotten better. it seems like every time it starts to feel more normal, it just gets worse again the next day. today it was really bad. there was a lot of discharge, there was the whole "popping" feeling in addition to the usual tension, and it felt like it kept looking off to the far side, like off to the right when i was looking straight ahead. very, very distracting. D: right now, as i'm typing this, the tension is REALLY bad, and i'm having trouble keeping my focus without repeatedly blinking. or just closing my eye. that tends to help as well.

what if there really IS a cyst on the optic nerve? i mean, is that something that's actually curable without issue, or am i seriously going to lose my right eye? because if that happens, i don't know if i'll be able to keep drawing like i've been doing. i mean, of course i'll be able to draw, but if it seriously hinders my depth perception, is it going to throw me back to an earlier stage, and make me have to re-learn everything again? i just...i don't know if i'd be able to handle that kind of stress.

i'm really, really worried about this. i don't think it's normal for this kind of problem to persist for over a month, and it's been going on with me taking notice of it since the beginning of july. mom insists nothing is wrong, just tells me it's from excessive computer use, but i KNOW that's not the problem here. if it were, my left eye would be having the same problem...and i've had eye strain before. this is NOTHING like that. there is something in my eye. BEHIND it, even.

i know it's really awful to be expecting the worst outcome possible, but i can't really think of anything else at this point...

so, uh, yeah! wow, dealing with both trolls and art thieves for two days straight is terribly frustrating. thankfully i'm not so stressed out anymore after getting most of the issues resolved once and for all. i really have zero tolerance for plagiarism, and when that shit goes on right under my nose, i become a very difficult person to deal with.

i'm still in a pretty foul mood, honestly. the whole thing left such a poor taste in my mouth and i'm just about at my breaking point here. i hope i haven't been taking this out on anyone directly, especially since most of you reading this were not involved at all in what went down. either way i'm pretty satisfied with the result, even if it wasn't quite what i was going for to begin with.

basically, what happened was that i came across an art thief on deviantart and spent a good few days doing my best to get everything in his gallery taken down. i was hoping it'd all end in a ban so he'd learn his lesson, but unfortunately, only a small portion of the gallery was removed, and the thief was left to keep doing the same shit. so i did it AGAIN, and this time the entire gallery got cleared out, but the motherfucker's STILL not banned. all the while i was forced to deal with the guy's personal army, and that was not a whole lot of fun. honestly, in retrospect, i should have just reported the bullshit and left. commenting anywhere was a huge mistake.

but i guess what's done is done.

the rest of life, ridiculous amount of stress aside, is going well i guess. i'm excited for halloween. hopefully i'll be sane enough by the time it rolls around to properly enjoy it.

yes, i am aware that this game is older than balls and that it really sucks, but it was my first actual MMORPG and what can i say, i'm loyal to it.

anyway, this is my first time genuinely playing retail RO and i can say with confidence that this is the best experience i've had playing RO outside the realm of roleplay servers. on this server i honestly feel like i'm back in my first server again. my first was a 3/3/3 (very low experience rate), and i've played several low-raters since then, so i knew what to expect in the way of level grinding. i was actually astounded to find that it really isn't that bad.

the biggest beef i have with high-rate pservers of ANY game is that they lack a real community. it's all about getting to the highest level possible in the least amount of time, getting the best equipment, being the most powerful player. you don't have time to make friends, and you don't need to. besides, there are always guilds for that. and even if you wanted to make friends outside your guild, over half the active players don't speak your language anyway. but you're so busy beating everyone else up in PvP or WoE that it doesn't matter. who needs companions when you're the toughest player around? it's fun to be the best.

...yeah, i completely disagree with that mentality.

it might just stem from the fact that i'm not very good at video games, or maybe that i'm such a sore loser that i've taken to carrying grudges against the people who beat me. it might be that. but one thing i will say for certain is that grinding levels is so much more enjoyable and rewarding when there are other people doing it alongside you. and that's what i like about low-rate servers. everyone's in the same boat, and you're all working together to meet the same goals. you've got friends in every player and you have nothing to lose. and that sense of community is what i like so much about retail RO, and about any retail MMO server. the best part about valkyrie? it's free.

there is one major thing about retail that bugs me, though, to be honest. for one thing, an unfair amount of the server's population is comprised of bots. ad bots, KS bots, loot bots, vend bots, levelgrind bots, the works. and it's absolutely infuriating.

but really, other than that, i'm greatly enjoying my experience on this server. i've met some nice people and the leveling has gone pretty quickly. i'm already 29/21 and i JUST STARTED TODAY, which is pretty good i think. i hope to hit job 50 by the end of the week, and i think that it's a pretty modest expectation considering the rate at which i'm going already.

all in all this feels a lot like a low-rate pserver. only big difference i've noticed is that everyone speaks english.

(: i know i haven't been on messengers in the past few days and that may have worried some of you, since i'm practically ALWAYS online, haha. as i mentioned in my last journal, there was an attempt to restore my OS to factory settings; unfortunately, that plan fell through, and it probably has something to do with the fact that i overwrote the original OS. i didn't anticipate a backup of my old OS being necessary, so i didn't bother. now i'm having to face the consequences of that blunder.

basically, for those who aren't in the know: i was having some issues with vista, my original OS, refusing to update to service pack 2. i was trying to run a game that required SP2 in order to run at all, but since i simply couldn't update, i decided to just upgrade my OS to windows 7. my dad had a disc available, so i took it and used it and everything was all jake. i didn't foresee any issues arising with the activation code, but with my horrible luck, those exact issues arose anyway. the code had already been used on a different computer (my dad's) and so i couldn't use it again on mine.

the thirty days came and went, and by the end of them, i was left without an operational operating system. sound familiar? yep, that's where i am right now.

regarding my feelings about this: i actually am not bothered at all by my lack of computer access. so, saying you feel sorry for me or whatever is kind of pointless. xD in my time away from my desk, i've gotten the chance to talk more with my mother, play more with my nephew (who's finally starting to talk, by the way! 8D), and FINALLY get started on the character quests in tales of legendia. so, yeah. i think my life away from the computer has been pretty productive so far!

the only feasible way to get my computer up and running again is to somehow procure a new windows 7 disc, and i'm really in no hurry to do so, considering the hefty pricetag on one of those puppies. it might only be a few hours before i'm back online, or it might be several weeks. only time will tell. meanwhile i'll try and keep you all posted on any important issues that may arise in the gap between now and when i can get back in commission.

speaking of commissions, i'm all caught up on those. xD i know there are a few out-standing art trades, requests, and kiriban that i still have to get to, but i'd like to ask everyone involved with those to PLEASE be patient. i have no way of finishing any artwork while i can't use my own computer.

...and just so everyone knows, i'm typing this up on my mother's desktop, so please excuse any typoes; her keyboard is really really weird.

i'm restoring my system to factory-new tonight. i'm backing up all my files on my secondary hard drive, but just in case something goes horribly wrong (and that's always a possibility with me, knowing my luck or lack thereof), it may be a while before i'm really back in business.

hopefully everything will go perfectly and i'll be available online tomorrow as though nothing went wrong.

in the event that i'm kicked out of commission by one tragic mishap or another, i'll be sure to let you all know one way or another.

in other news, uhhh i've been playing that there mabinogi game. i was really surprised with how fun it is once you get into it. i'm still learning the ropes though, and a lot of the game mechanics are completely foreign to me, haha.
