Megaplex Con Meme 2025
Posted 3 weeks agoBorrowing this from AndreaJae who borrowed it from Walt46.
Convention attending: Megaplex
Days staying: Thursday - Tuesday
Who are you rooming with?
With Kiyofox.
Where will you be?
Mainly at the hotel and convention center, might venture outside for a bit to try a restaurant or two.
How is the best way to find you?
Look for AndreaJae, Kiyofox, U-Jelly or HelixTheFallen, they likely will know where I am and can arrange introductions, otherwise, my badge with Arc written should do.
What do you look like?
Like a perpetually tired blob. See the raccoon mask.
What is your gender?
Creature.
How old are you?
Almost 30, getting there.
Can I talk to you?
Of course!
Can I hug and/or snuggle you?
Not much of a hugger myself, even with people I know well.
Are you nice?
I try to be, but I might be oblivious to certain cultural things (I'm not American) which may work against that. On the topic of being oblivious, I'm completely blind to flirting and might take things people say at face value. I'm also not very expressive so please don't take offense if my reactions are underwhelming.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
You can call me by Arc pronounced like ark.
What can't we talk about?
Anything super personal, either asking me about it or sharing it out of the blue.
Can I get you something to drink?
I'm not really a drinker (boring I know) so that kind of offer doesn't work for me.
Can I take your picture?
I'd rather not.
Attending any events?
I will attend Kiyo's panel about Modular Synths, might go to the Tetris panel as well.

Artbook Update
Posted 10 months agoHello peeps, since it is been slightly over a month since I showed a teaser of my upcoming art book, I thought about sharing an update on how that project is going.
Teaser here.
Although my day-job slows me down a lot, I managed to draft 82 pages out of the 100 I have planned to do. That translates to around 150 character drawings all in unique poses and in a variety of themes.
I estimate that once I reach the 100 page mark there will be another 30-40 extra character drawings added to the collection.
By reaching the 100 pages milestone, then the meticulous work of polishing each drawing begins, and that is where I believe I'll learn the most since I went a bit crazy on some ideas.
With that said, I might at some point open a Patreon for those who would like to support the project and in turn get a behind the scenes view of it.
It is been a lot of fun and I can't wait to share more ^.^

First time
Posted a year agoNow that one week has passed and I'm not as jet-lagged as I was a few days ago, I felt it was time to write some thoughts about my first furry convention experience.
I decided to name this journal first time, but honestly, a better title would have been first times, plural. Because it was a lot more than just my first convention, it was many first things.
Starting with the journey, traveling internationally for slightly less than one week was a fresh experience, and considering that my last time in the US was over a decade ago, everything felt very foreign to me.
With a considerable dose of luck, and a bit of timezone shenanigans I managed to complete the over 4000 miles trip across the ocean with no issues and most surprisingly, with no delays. Arriving at the destination the same day I left, rather than the usual two days you can expect for international travel.
Before getting to speak to the agent at the border control, I was rehearsing what to say and trying to have my papers in order should they decide to inquire further on my plans.
However none of that was necessary as in the moment I received the rather blunt question of "what are you doing here?", my immediate response was to say "I'm here to visit my friends", and that was probably the best answer I could have given as no further questions were asked, and I was allowed to go.
Little did I know that minutes later my answer would come true, as I messaged one of my friends and learn he just arrived at the same airport and was waiting for his baggage. I asked where he was and ran to meet him for the first time face-to-face.
Together we took a taxi to the convention hotel where for brief moments I got to feel the Florida heat for the first time, it was intense, almost overwhelming.
The hotel was massive to an extent I never thought possible for a hotel to be. I've never seen anything like it. We spent some time at the check-in desk that looked relatively humble in comparison to the sheer size of the whole place and soon we both had our room keys and the chance to finally drop our luggage and roam more freely.
Since we arrived before the official start of the event, there was little movement at the time, but here and there we could see signs of what was to come.
The next day was a recovery day for me, after the marathon that is international air travel, and without much to see, me and my friend just spent time exploring the hotel, talking and eating at the hotel's diner.
During the evening another friend joined us, so yet another first time meeting, and after getting over the initial awkwardness that first time meetings bring, we talked till late in the night.
The registration queue that day was massive, so we refrained from trying to venture into it, but much to our surprise, the next day it was far shorter and although we had to do some camping at the line, once the registration desk opened, everything was done very fast.
With badges and schedule at hand, we were ready to go. So we walked back to the convention hall where I met more people for the first time. The jolly atmosphere was invigorating, and made me want to see everything I could.
After the opening ceremony we checked the dealer's den, and experienced some good dose of sensory overload. At that time nothing caught my interest, but later as I explored that place again and again I started to find things here and there that I liked.
While it was amazing to see furry businesses blooming I felt slightly disappointed that artist tables were not as common as I imagined. A lot of clothing articles and wearables were available, all artistic in their own ways, but not a lot of plain good old art.
Another slightly disappointing thing was the lack of art books, I was hoping to return with a lot of artist "sketchbook" style books but there weren't a lot of them. Which made me think that this might be what I have to do as a next big project. It is the whole "be the change you want to see" kind of deal.
The convention floor was now seeing the movement it was well prepared to handle, and all the display of creativity in the forms of hundreds of fursuits that came in all shapes and sizes provided a near endless stream of things to look at.
My favorite suits, surprisingly, were not raccoons as one might think but the opossums, I believe I counted 5 or 6 of them wandering the convention, and they were the most creative and fun in my opinion.
Late that evening, we met more friends and for the first time, went on a short drive outside the hotel for dinner and some chatter. The size of American portions were doing a number on me, so that time I ate very little, but it was great to go out for a bit.
The following days were a mix of exploring the dealer's den, talking to the friends I finally got to meet, attending some panels, eating, more talking and watching the movement of attendees and suiters.
On the final evening, we banded together to a nicer restaurant as per my pestering and persuasion, and it was a great way to close a great trip. I got my friends addicted to my country's national drink, guaranĂ¡, and we all ate a lot more than we probably should have.
Most the goodbyes were given after the dinner, but there was one left for the following day. The friend I met at the airport was also the friend I would say goodbye in the airport, and once we parted ways, the long waiting for my trip home started.
If everything I wrote so far didn't paint a clear picture of my experience, I hope the following lines will do the trick. All the first times I spoke about are rather obvious, but there is more to them than it meets the eye.
For instance, this event was the first time I felt like I could be myself in a public space, the first time I could present myself as an artist without feeling weird about it, and also, the first time I felt like I belonged to a group, the group of friends I had the pleasure to get to know a bit better throughout the event.
These first times were instrumental, and without them, this journal would probably have been written in a different tone.
Returning home to my routine and obligations felt discouraging to say the least, there is this yearning for more, but that is maybe a good thing. Means the event did what it was supposed to do, which is get people together and instill in them the desire to do it again.
This desire is with me now, and I hope that circumstances will allow new opportunities to realize it. But for now, all I can say is a heartfelt thank you, to everyone who made my first time an unforgettable one.

Gratitude
Posted a year agoJust thought about writing a small message to express my gratitude to Dragoneer for owning and maintaining this site. His departure and the situation that led to it fill me with sadness.
I don't think we ever interacted but his legacy left a lasting impact on my life and growth as an artist, so I want to thank him for making this place possible, I can say with confidence that this is my favorite corner of the web.
Thank you very much Dragoneer.

New Year
Posted a year agoHello everyone, hope you are doing well.
The past few weeks were extremely busy and brought many changes, these changes were unexpected but I'm happy to say that the great majority of them were good, a rare but welcome occurrence. Unfortunately changes in my life often translate to less creative time and that has been the main reason why I haven't shared any new drawings in December and in January so far.
Despite the extremely busy times, I still have many creative plans for 2024 and hope that I'll be able to achieve a good amount of them till the end of the year. Some of these plans are personal while others are shared projects I have with some of my friends here in FA and in other corners of the web. You will of course be kept up to date on these plans as they take shape.
I believe the greatest challenge for the year will be to manage all the aspects of my life that are trying to dominate my wake hours, art being one of them and one I hold very dear, but that is not the only aspect and I might be forced to make some difficult decisions I've been postponing for a long time.
With all this said, I'd like to thank you all for sticking with me despite being so slow and inconsistent at times, I truly appreciate it. I also would like to say that I'll get back to everyone who wrote me comments and notes, it will just take a bit of time ^^

Life and art
Posted 2 years agoHello everyone, hope you are doing well.
This is a small follow-up on my previous journal as well as a general update.
First of all, thank you very much to all those who replied and encouraged me on my search for an art mentor. This search was successful and I'm receiving the help I needed since early February.
While finding my mentor was a dream coming true, the timing was unfortunately quite bad. Although I've been off from traditional schools (high-school/college/university) for quite a few years now, this year revealed to be extremely academic, and I had to devote an almost unhealthy number of hours to studying, sadly, non-art topics.
These non-art topics are still things I love and I wouldn't make it through the pile of books I had to read if it wasn't the case, but having to disconnect myself from drawing even though I'm pursuing another passion is extremely difficult. Unfortunately there are only so many hours in a day so I had to make practical choices that I wish were not necessary.
Hence why I have been so quiet since early this year.
My academic pursuit is far from over, in fact I would dare saying it is only beginning, but I believe the hardest part at least for now is done and I'll finally have some much needed balance between life and art.
To finish this journal I want to ask. Would you like seeing art wips and studies moving forward?

Looking for a teacher/mentor
Posted 2 years agoHello everyone, hope the new year is treating you well or at least better than the last one did.
I'm writing this message as a cry for help in the hope that someone may know or maybe even be who I'm looking for.
As the title of this journal says, I'm looking for a teacher/mentor, an art teacher/mentor to be specific. I've been learning art on my own for too long and the quality of my works are equally taking too long to improve. So I'm hoping that an art teacher/mentor would be able to help me get on track without all the struggling that comes with being self-taught.
I have an idea of where I want to be, but no clue how to get there, all my attempts at art give me certain glimpses of direction but nothing certain. There are too many paths I could take but there is not enough time to try them all, and this is where I believe guidance would help. By reducing the paths from too many to a few, it might take me where I want to be.
The model I have in mind would be some sort of 1-1 meetings, probably bi-weekly or monthly for goal setting, critique and feedback. This type of feedback loop is what I miss the most from online tutorials, and the reason I think I should hold myself from consuming too many of them. It is tempting but it doesn't help me.
If you made it this far in the journal, thanks for reading through my ramblings and if you know someone you could recommend me to check or perhaps send my way I would appreciate it greatly ^^;.
On a second note, I want to say a big thank you to all of you who are watching, favoriting and commenting on my works, your presence means a lot to me and encourages me to get better.

Interest Check: Timelapse Videos
Posted 3 years agoHello folks, hope you are doing well. I'm writing to you today to ask if you would be interested in seeing timelapse videos of my paintings?
This week I went through a marathon of painting exercises, and I felt like recording one of these paintings. Today as I worked on yet another painting I decided to do the same. Since recording is something I can easily do and doesn't block my workflow in any way, I thought it could be interesting to do it on a more regular basis.
A second question would be, if timelapse videos are a bit too much, would you like to have short step-through gifs of the process or perhaps even both? Let me know =3

New year updates
Posted 3 years agoHello folks, hope you are doing well. I'm writing to you today to provide some updates.
This month of January will be a very busy one and unfortunately I won't have much opportunity to draw. There are lots of responsibilities and tasks upon me that should be adressed and they will require my full time dedication. Hopefully by the beginning of February everything should be sorted and more arts will come.
I took the time to do a complete revamp to my terms of service as I plan to offer commissions when opportunity arises. You can check it here: https://arcrcric.art/tos.pdf If you have any suggestions please tell me as I'm always aiming to improve it and make it more clear.

Posted 4 years agoHello folks, thought on writing a short journal to apologize to those waiting on replies from notes and comments, I'm not ignoring you, things are just not very bright at the moment and at the end of the day I have very little energy left. I feel like I'm stuck and for the foreseeable future there is nothing I can do other than endure. I'm trying everything in my power to improve and make things better or at least bearable, but there are so many things I can't control that undermine these efforts. It is frustrating and discouraging.
I'm still drawing and plan to keep posting what I've been doing, it will just take some time for me to reply to messages.
Thanks for reading.

Website update and news
Posted 4 years agoHello folks, hope you are doing well.
I'm just passing by to tell that my website got some updates and for those who use RSS, now you can subscribe to the news feed using your favorite mail client. I'm planning on posting a monthly message with some news on the stuff I'm doing. Of course I'll continue to post things here and in the other sites I use, but the RSS is just a fun extra that might be convenient for those who like using it.
Here is the website's address: https://arcrcric.art
On a second note, I'm back posting art on Weasyl, so if you have an account there, feel free to stop by and say hi =3
https://www.weasyl.com/~arcrcric
King regards from your arty washing bear.
OBSERVATIONS
- The search system works with tags separated by space, if you add a "-" before the tag like this "-raccoon" it will exclude all arts with this tag from the results.
- For those curious, the site was developed using React + Redux with Typescript. The CSS was completely written by me, without any frameworks, to keep things as light as possible.

How did you find me?
Posted 4 years agoHello folks, this is a question that comes to my mind whenever I receive a new watcher notification, I find it extremely rewarding when it happens and I'm very grateful to have each of you along on my art journey. If you feel like, please let me know. I would love to hear it ^^
Interest check: commissions
Posted 4 years agoHello folks, hope things are going well with you all. Thought on writing this small journal to check if there would be any interest from you regarding commissions.
The money raised would be directed to the Naturama projekt that I'm participating this year, you can find out more about it on their website:
http://naturama-projekt.org/en/naturama.php
These are some examples of what I'm planning on offering, but of course it could be negotiated =3
