So what's going on with the tips? Did somebody link to me?
Posted 11 years agoSo the other day an awesome user by the name of.
Frroat sent me a nice tip just to support me in my work. I always appreciate this and I'd like to publicly thank him! I get maybe a tip every couple months to every month, usually just a buck or two but it's a nice gesture. He gave me a bigger one so I'm gonna do something nice for him. Today though I have now gotten two more out of the blue and one was a really nice tip just saying they appreciate my work.
Neither are replying to emails thanking them and asking who they are and I have no idea who sent them and i'd like to do something small but nice for them. I'm just wondering what gives, i rarely get tips but suddenly i get 3 almost all at once. Is somebody discussing some shit I'm dealing with or linking to my work somewhere that gets a lot of traffic? that's fine if so, i'm just curious.
But, if you sent me those tips please send me a note or pm or reply here so i can talk to ya and in the future if you send me a tip of over a few bucks just because you appreciate my work, send me a note just to say you did it so i can talk to you and maybe gear my next personal drawing to something that appeals to both of us.
Well whoever you are. thank you!

Commission terms and information.
Posted 11 years agoI get so many lookie lou's i figured i'd put most of the relevant info into one place for easy reading so I can just link people to this journal.
How do I get a commissions?
It's pretty simple. Just note me or hit me up on aim (baserock love) or skype (baserock_love) and let me know you want one. If i have one open and you send the dough it's yours. If I don't have a slot open you can be the first person I ask when one opens up if you want to claim it.
When do you open for commissions?
Every time I post an image I'll mention it's a commission. If it is. That means a slot opened up and unless somebody bought it in advance it's up for grabs.
Why don't you advertise?
I do sometimes but rarely. Usually slots are filled or reserved in advance. I don't take money till the slot is free though and I don't fill a slot till I've received money.
How much does it cost?
I do pencil work, theres all sorts of different techniques and sizes I can draw. I work by the hour basically as an estimation. You can get a solo smaller crosshatch drawing for only 100 bucks for a pinup and 75 per char after that but the vast majority of my work are my full size 11x14 smooth shaded drawings and expect to pay on average about 200 bucks for a pinup and 150 per char after that. Simple and lighter colored chars take less time than darker and complex chars. Things like wings and ginormous tails take more time so i might add a bit for these sorts of things. This stuff takes time. Tack on 6.50 for shipping of the original within the US or more for international shipping. If it's international I usually ship it first and trust the client to pay me afterwards. So far nobody has stiffed me and I appreciate that.
If you want some work but can't afford a full sized commission just let me know what you're interested in spending and we can probably work something out.
Wtf is a sketch stream commission?! How much do they cost?! I'm so confused!
[NOTE: Currently I am not offering streaming as It's just not possible to have that kind of privacy where I live.]
Calm your tits man! A sketch stream commission as the base price is 75 bucks per char and it's a quicker lower priced sketch commission and I will stream the linework and shading for ya if you want to see it. I no longer offer the really quick 50 dollar per char sketch commissions because nobody ever wanted them and it just confused people.
Why must I pay up front?
Because I got REAL tired of getting ripped off. The fourth time somebody realized they could just not pay me and keep the scanned preview image I changed my policy. So far there hasn't been any issues.
Am I allowed to request fixes?
Absolutely. This is your picture and I want you to love it. For my full sized smooth shaded pictures you get 3 opportunities to request changes. I don't move onto the next stage of drawing until given the go ahead. I encourage commissioners to ask for fixes till they're happy.
1. The layout phase. This is a very rough, often just geometrical shapes representation of the char but it's all the information you need to get a sense of pose and proportion and mood. The vast majority of fixes should be done at this stage as things still erase easily.
2. The final linework. I can make fixes here but lines are dark and refined and you might see ghost lines as pencil gets a finite amount of erasings.
3. The final image. I can make VERY minor fixes at this stage. Things do not erase well at this time though. I have done stupid things like left out an ear or whatever and neither of us noticed, or forgotten a detail from a reference sheet. I will always fix a genuine mistake no matter what.
NOTE: With the extremely low tier rough commissions I generally do not do changes or fixes unless it's a genuine mistake on my part or something super minor. Also this has only been an issue once but "fixes" doesn't mean changing your mind and having me redraw the picture a dozen times or substituting different characters 3 times after I already did the line work. If you get super ridiculous I will just send you some of your money back and cancel the commission. I have only had to deal with this once.
What won't you draw?
I won't draw a lot. My gallery is a pretty good idea of what I'm comfortable with. Basically hardcore smut of reasonable proportions and fetishes of consenting adults of either gender that are aesthetically pleasing to me. If you're wondering if i'll draw your fetish or absurdly over endowed character it's a good idea to ask first. I don't draw ferals in sexual situations or super hyper endowed or herms or dickgirls and all that. Just not my thing. I generally like to keep dick variety in the human, canine or equine variety. I will generally not draw spiky death penises and never any female genitals other than human-like.
Do I get to keep the original?
Well yeah, that's kind of the point. I'm always surprised by how much I get asked this. You get a physical piece of art from me. You just gotta pay the shipping to wherever you're at and allow some time for me to get out and send it. Getting to the post office is a real pain in the ass so i often wait till i can mail a few things at once.
Can you keep it a secret?
Absolutely but you must tell me beforehand. There are people i currently work with who don't allow me to post their commissions. I'm happy to do that. I need to know up front though.
Who "owns" the image?
I like to think both of us. If somebody doesn't want me to post their pic on my page I can usually ablige. I've frankly never had any issues with image rights and I really just don't care that much. By all means re-post your drawing wherever, have somebody color it, resell the original. it's fine with me.
So thats pretty much it. Sorry for the length but I get so many questions so frequently this will be a big time saver for me.

Any fans of sour belgian ales here?
Posted 11 years agoI just got into them and I'm in fucking love. They're like the only beer I want now.
Anybody in the US or california know of any generally available (from bevmo or high end beer stores, just not something i have to fly to fricking Flanders to drink) brands or types I should try?
I just had the best beer i've ever had and it was a Geuze, Geuze Fond Tradition. My second favorite i've had so far is Vanderghinste Oud Bruin. I definitely so far for the most part like all of the flemmish brown and reds and geuzes i've had and i generally don't care for the really sweet variety's as much that usually are fruit lambics or krieks but i'll try anything as long as it's not super sweet.
I have only been drinking them often for a few weeks and have only tried about 6 or 7 kinds so if anybody can recommend one i'd love to hear it.

Arjuna horror flick challenge. Win a free sketch!
Posted 11 years agoNOTE: Please read entire journal. Getting a lot of people posting stuff that is simply not applicable to the contest.
I did this once before and it worked out good. The movie that won it wasn't even really horror, more of a thriller but the premise was horrific enough. It was Dead Calm, not even really a horror movie but it worked so I am flexible on movies not generally thought of as horror but they have to be horrific in some way. I would even argue that Dead Calm is a psychological horror/thriller movie.
I'll preface this with I'm a horror film/game/book nut. Especially film. I watch tons of horror films, for all i know i've seen every horror flick worth seeing at this point which is why i have to resort to shenanigans like this. I have seen possibly close to or more than 2000 horror flicks. So I would probably not suggest horror staples like Alien or The Shining because i guaranteed have seen them.
If you can recommend me a horror movie I have not seen, I watch it and I like it, I will draw you a free sketch of your character or a character of your choosing. I will be fair, if i genuinely enjoy the movie I will definitely admit it. If I absolutely hate it halfway through i might not finish it. I've seen enough that i know what i like. Shit, i didn't like sleepaway camp but i finished it and the ending totally salvaged the movie so i won't rush to judgement too bad.
For me to like it enough to choose it as the winner it must get a reaction out of me, fear, dread, uncomfortable anticipation or just general unease/unnerve. It doesn't need to be in my top ten or scare the shit out of me. BUt i have to enjoy it and it has to get a visceral reaction out me like that. Ideally it will scare the living shit out of me but that's incredibly rare.

Only real rules are as follows:
1. I only draw male or females of reasonable proportions. See my gallery for what i'm generally comfortable with.
2. Females with human bits and males with human, equine or canine bits. No herms, no weird spiky death cocks and no fortune cookies. No offense if that's your thing but it's just not mine so I don't draw them.
3. It has to be a feature length movie or at least 60 minutes long, shorts are cool but not what I'm looking for.
4. Hard mode.....it has to be in english or english dubbed. I simply can't read subtitles while I work. No silent films either. Foreign films are great but i need english. If you have a link to a foreign flick with a good english dub lay it on me.
5. Less hard mode. As I write this I'm watching the supposed lost aussie psychological horror classic Wake Up In Fright so no suggesting that :P

My tastes? I love haunted house movies like The Haunting (1963), The Changeling, and yeah, The first couple Paranormal Activity movies. Haunted house movies are by far my favorite. I love dark movies and horror/suspense thrillers like silence of the lambs but emphasis on the horror. I love psychological horror like Spoorloos or Jacob's Ladder. I like some slasher movies but gore alone does nothing for me. I actually can't stand gore porn movies but slashers like Suspiria, Black Christmas, even some of the Scream movies or the first friday the 13th are fine if they have a little subtlety/atmosphere. I love old horror movies like Night of the Demon I love new horror movies like the Evil Dead remake.
I want to watch something that will best case scenario be genuinely scary but i'll settle for unnerving or unsettling.
What i don't like is gore porn flicks and torture porn flicks like the SAW series or Hostel. I hate horror comedies. I can stand some funny moments but I'm looking generally for dead serious horror.
So yeah. Whether you want a pic or not these threads are always fun. Toss out some names and don't be offended if i've seen every single thing you mention haha.

Controversial Opinion: Neil Cosmos > Sagan Cosmos
Posted 11 years agoSo far at least. What do you think so far?
Great news for California gun owners!
Posted 11 years agoI'm one step closer to a CCW license. This is fantastic news.
http://www.reuters.com/article/2014.....A1D03D20140214
The whole idea that I can own a gun for protection but only within my house makes absolutely no sense. Given the silly gun control legislation Jerry Brown has already vetoed i have hopes that this won't be pushed higher up the court system and the ruling will stand. Definitely gonna be watching this closely. I live in Contra Costa County and you pretty much HAVE to be either a celebrity or repo man or have a close relationship with a sheriff to get a CCW license. In all my years living here i have met one person that was successfully able to get one. Well it looks like that's about to change.

Bill Nye Ken Ham post debate discussion
Posted 11 years agoSo, those of you that watched it. What were your thoughts on it?
I despise Ken Ham, I think he's responsible for more ignorance in this country than probably any other single person within it, I'm familiar with just about all of his arguments and he didn't really do anything but pull out things from his bag of tricks. Redefining words to support his argument, insisting logic and the laws of physics are somehow expressly part of the CHRISTIAN world view but never providing anything to back that up, and of course the bizarre self defeating tactic of trying to prop up religion and slander science by portraying science as no better than religion.
I liked Bill Nye's main argument, i think it was really well done, it pretty much was designed to simultaneously address each of Ham's boneheaded claims and demonstrate what is true and why we know it at the same time. I thought that was well done. I was a little surprised to see him not put up some of the strongest evidence of evolution in particular such as all the various trees of life that completely corroborate each other all made with independent data from independent biologic and geologic sciences. To me that's always been by far the most definitive case for evolution. THe fact the science of homology and taxonomy existed centuries before genetics but were totally vetted by genetics.
Ken Ham made a few laughable strawmen that I was a little irritated Bill Nye didn't address like the "genetic information" fallacy and the idea of new functions in organisms for which the ability didn't already exist in the "genetic information.". Bill Nye could have mentioned the classic nylon eating bacteria that got a new function due to adding to the size of it's genome, theres many examples he could have mentioned.
Overall, I think Ken Ham, as expected had NOTHING but the bible and tiny perceived holes poked in deep time and physics and evolution. Bill Nye had facts, data and easily digested and fact checkable claims supplemented with the evidence, mostly but not always.
Whatever Bill's reason was for engaging int his debate, I imagine he's pretty pleased right now. Ken Ham doesn't seem to get that you don't prove YOUR case by trying to poke tiny little holes in the other guys. it's not a false dichotomy, the time to believe creation is when the evidence exists for it, which it does not. If he somehow proved evolution was totally false, that would not lend any validity to creationism.
That's my two cents on it.

Hiphop fans. Looking for any and all early 90's Eminem
Posted 11 years agoI had this tape a buddy from Chicago gave me that he recorded off a pirate hiphop station. It had a bunch of old Eminem stuff from the 90's and some of it was just amazing, some freestyles, lots of stuff with other people, some of it was off Infinite so I'm aware of that. One track eluded me for 15 years since i had no idea who it was and I stumbled across it and it reminded me how fucking amazing he was (is, but i just don't like his stuff from slim shady ep on. He's an incredible talent i just hate his fucking later stuff.). The track in question is http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=i7RFdoY3cO4
Either way, i know he was on a lot of obscure no name peoples tracks, ep's, singles and albums, lots of radio appearances, some really obscure stuff. If anybody can point me to any of his stuff pre slim shady ep, i would be very appreciated, freestyles, battles of note (i've heard all his famous battles) etc.

Posted 11 years agoI must say I'm really appreciative that we got this site and thanks to everybody who's work keeps it going.
Horror fans. This could seriously be great.
Posted 12 years agoAll of my childhoods! Anybody else scare the shit out of themselves with these as a little kid? The drawings alone kept me up http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2013/.....ef=mostpopular
Yes it's the Saw guys, but the first saw was a decent flick. Please don't screw this up.

Gonna be quiet for a bit.
Posted 12 years agoPosting from a 3ds so forgive grammar and such.
I have been quiet on fa for a bit as you might have noticed but due to....a ridiculous chain of events i find myself suddenly with no comp, no net, and no phone all at once. So if you're a commissioner or chat with me ill be silent for just a bit. My new build should be here in a week or so and i got a bunch of new stuff to post, commissions and old stuff i never got around to scanning as well as some originals to auction.
I'm still alive, just needed to take a break from fa a bit lots of life and family stuff hit me all at once. Lots of new stuff on the way.

Anybody here a vegan? Thinking about doing it finally...
Posted 12 years agoI've been a vegetarian since I was 8 years old, i think this is a big part of the reason why I'm 30 and look like i'm a decade younger unlike the rest of my family, i've always been healthier than everybody i know, gotten sick less than anybody i know and had a lot more energy than anybody i know. In fact I didn't really want to be a vegetarian originally, my mom sorta brow beat me into it, and after a few months of eating only my favorite meat things but being vegetarian most meals, even those started to taste and smell really gross, the less meat i ate the better i felt even at 8 years old and i sorta fell into being full veg and never went back, my mom only lasted about year as a veg. At this point i simply don't know anything different.
Either way, I had read The China Study as well as other scientific studies on high nutrient low fat and calorie plant/seed/nut/grain based diets and the links between cancers and other problems and animal protein of any kind and I had mulled over it for awhile. I'm watching the documentary Vegucated for lack of anything actually entertaining to watch atm and it's making me remember that i had wanted to do this and i think i'm really gonna give it a shot, at least try it out for 6 months and see how i feel and how easy or hard it is.
I guess at this point my main concern is my sheer hatred of cooking, like, it's probably my least favorite thing on earth next to possibly raking leaves. Currently i put shit together like today i had tostada shells with beans, cheese, lettuce, avocado, BAM!! Fucking dinner in less than 5 minutes. Money which don't have much of now is a concern as well. Being a veg is definitely more expensive than not, not eating lots of heavily processed crap or any fast food, soda, or junk food is more expensive than not as well since that means i drink juice or beer instead when i want something cold and refreshing that's not tap water.
So if you're a vegan, how long have you been doing it (no cheaters, i'm seriously tired of meeting "vegetarians" who eat fish and chicken 2 meals a day), do you spend a lot of time cooking? Do you spend a lot more on your food budget than before? Any advice for cookbooks (fast to make meal style cookbooks, i can't spend 3 hours a day making meals) as well as good vegan protein supplements? Currently since i exercise a lot i supplement whey protein which is nice and cheap but i guess i gotta cut that out of course if i do this. Any cheap vegan protein supplements?
Any advice/anecdotes would be appreciated.

On Zeitgeist movie and critial thinking...or lacktherof.
Posted 12 years agoFirst let me apologize that this got pretty long. It's sad that 90 minutes of densely packed and compressed bullshit can literally take months to debunk and unravel and while i didn't debunk the whole film here, theres a lot to talk about. Btw MANY people have done thorough and concise debunkings of Zeitgeist they're as easy to find as the "film" itself.
Ok, i'm going to really try to come off as un patronizing and non dickish as possible but I'm in a bit of a bad mood. Why? Because I finally gave into peer pressure, i just fucking sat through the internet movie Zeitgeist, i....of my own free will sat through like 90 minutes or however long it is of the most dishonest, shameful, tinfoil hat retarded film making I have ever seen, it's pretty much exactly what I expected. I opened up a browser window with zeitgeist and a couple other windows with debunkings (one from a christian perspective, one from a skeptic perspective) as well as a google window for fact checking both the film and the debunkings because I had heard how the movie varies between outright lies and fabrications to playing it as fast and loose with the facts and context of sources as could be imagined because they know that that most people will simply be too lazy to fact check it on there own.
I"m writing this because as ironic as it is, this movie has basically spawned it's own religion and people, quite a few furries as well have been badgering for YEARS to see it (OMG you're an atheist? YOU GOTTA SEE ZEITGEIST!! :3 :3 :3). What's depressing is that many of these people are fellow skeptics and rationalists and because the film is critical of christianity they view it as a good skeptic piece of film making all the while not applying the same skeptical eye to it that they apply to religion or 911 truther bullshit they don't believe in. Most of the people that swear by Zeitgeist i've met didn't surprise me. They were exactly the type of people I expected would be swayed by alarming imagery and dramatic music, basically gullible people. I"m not saying everybody that likes it is gullible but like with many things, if it doesn't occur to you to question it, it makes sense and can seem downright convincing.
I knew this movie was going to be a steaming pile of lies and dishonesty when I saw him drawing damning conclusions from jesus's birthday being on december 25th (It's not, everybody knows this we don't know exactly when it is but dec 25th would contradict scripture that is if the guy existed at all which i think he probably did.), to various facts about constellations that even i who had a long standing love affair with astronomy and had a mother very into Egyptology knew immediately were completely bullshit because either the true timelines were contradictory (zodiacs and constellations have changed a lot over time or a lot of the things he said were outright fabrications cited from the same 3 apparently useless authors of apparently very shitty small books. Many cited are more modern constructs that either didn't exist in the first century or were very different). The fact this guy makes SO much mileage with how the words sun and son are pronounced the same just had me cracking up over and over again, it's just ridiculous. Talk about building a sky scraper on a foundation of toothpicks.
As somebody who's hyper critical of religion, I enjoy stuff like this as long as the author has done their research. This guy appears to have read 3 books and just unquestioningly believed them despite the fact that popularity of zeitgeist apparently caught these authors off guard and they have basically confessed when taken to task over how most of what they write is speculation or merely unsubstantiated citations from other books with questionable sources. Following the trail of citations in it was like a game of hot potato, cited authors blaming other authors they cited for data that is just outright WRONG.
I"m not even going to get into the non religious stuff much. THe conspiracy NWO shit was just INSANE. This guy goes from point A to point Q and just skips the rest of the alphabet. It's just.....sigh.
Look, have you ever seen a cheesy hollywood movie, often one of Spielberg's more family friendly affairs? Super 8 and Ai immediately come to mind. Do you know how in very specific scenes the juxtaposition of dramatic music and imagery come off as "moving" or send a chill down your spine? That is very very intentional. There are ways to predictably bring out feelings of profundity in the viewer through music and imagery and the maker of Zeitgeist probably spent all his research time in figuring out how to do that instead of actually checking facts. This is a VERY easy thing to do and it is very easy to get people that don't know any better to have a visceral reaction of fear or outrage based on these film techniques. Everything in zeitgeist seems very urgent, very pressing, very alarming, that was done on purpose. If you can use abstract imagery and sound to get the viewer into a state of unease or outrage, it will suddenly make even the most unsubstantiated nonsense seem palatable.
With all things that are wild claims, don't believe everything you hear, don't believe me, don't believe experts and certainly don't believe fucking Zeitgeist unquestioningly. Look for yourself but keeping in mind that like with science, history is a largely peer reviewed and self correcting process, careers are made by proving the guy making a claim is lying or wrong. If something like Zeitgeist comes along and tells you a bunch of EXTRAORDINARY shit that pisses in the face of every published secular historian on the planet or alleges insane global conspiracies that would require thousands if not MILLIONS of people working in perfect collusion with no obvious reason or funding also keeping in mind that humans are HORRIBLE at keeping secrets (Look at Watergate as an actual "All the way to the top" conspiracy and how impossible they are to maintain.), you have to look at what is more probable. Is every single published historian of relevance wrong or is Internet Conspiracy Theorist #18745 full of shit? Are there a million people working at some insidious global conspiracy or is it bullshit? Which is more likely given the reality you live in and observe? Citations of sources does not mean anything is correct. Citations are there so you can verify for yourself whether citations are accurate and whether the author is somebody reputable. If theres letters like phd, in front of a name, look up where they got those letters from. So many internet apologists and conspiracy wackjobs get their degrees from online diploma mills (I'm looking at you Kent Hovind. Prime example.) and parade them around as if they're some sort of authority. Authority comes through works, and people who do good works go farthest. Is the PHD who's the head of Oxford's evolutionary biology department more reputable than the PHD working at the creation museum in Bumfuck Alabama? Well a quick search will show you one has EXTENSIVELY contributed to the published world dialogue on biology and the other just writes some shit on some website. One is an authority, not because of the letters, but because of their works!
In short, without appealing to an argument from authority fallacy, with substantiatable (is that even a word?) cold reality facts that draw from data that exists in the real world (not religion), consensus actually carries a lot of weight, while it shouldn't be believed unquestionably, it was arrived at for a reason and has probably withstood scrutiny and the tests of time. If somebody tells you the complete opposite, it will only take a a few minutes of research to see whether it has been extensively documented and it's out there for anybody to see or it's bullshit. Zeitgeist is BULLSHIT.

Horror flick junkies, you gotta get in here.
Posted 12 years agoSo I used to make a lot of journal about horror flicks. People that know me know i'm a horror media junky, whether it's books, films or games, i'm not an easy customer either, especially with horror flicks i think about 95% of them and especially most of the torture/gore porn shit that comes out today is just trash. I watch things while i draw and work and I was pretty much out of shit to watch, caught up on the few shows i watch and have seen all the english language horror flicks that appear worth watching. Desperate, i started googling "Best of 2012" lists and one of them mentioned an obscure little zero budget indie flick called Resolution, I watched the trailer and it looked interesting.
I couldn't find it anywhere, my only option to view it appeared to be to shell out 6.99 on amazon video which was tough to swallow but I did it.
I just finished it and it's one of those rare movies that was so good and so interesting and just downright dread inducing I want to let people know about it. All i gotta say is, if you enjoy great psychological horror you really need to give it a shot. The guys that made this did an amazing job on it and it's easily one of the best horror flicks i've seen in years.
I don't want to give away a whole lot but basically a guy's best friend sends him an email with a map to his cabin out in the boonies and a video. His friend is a rock bottom meth junky who has rebuffed all his previous attempts to get him into rehab so he decides to handcuff him to a pipe in the cabin and just stay with him while he detoxes. The boonies there are really strange with lots of very strange people wandering around but every day he feels like he's being led to things, records, old film reels, photographs, he gets the feeling somebody is watching them and messing with them. Things get more and more weird and it just piles on the dread and unease from there.
If you're looking for blood and guts, look elsewhere this is just pure psychological horror and mystery. Resolution. Awesome awesome little flick and these guys deserve to make some money off it. This is the film titled Resolution from 2012 just so it's not confused with others of the same name.

Hey atheists. Suck on these!
Posted 13 years agoAs somebody that recently made the transformation from one of those "Eh i don't believe. Who cares" type of passive atheists to somebody a bit more active in the community and political and less muzzled about my views, I just wanted to spread the word on a few things that are really valuable and interesting resources for atheists and are largely responsible for me realizing that our silence is really hurting our cause and the overall good of humanity. Atheism is really misunderstood and wrongly vilified so if you're an atheist and want to know more about what the organized community talks about and fights for take a look. Also take a look if you're a theist and you just don't get where we're coming from and why we can't believe.
First is The Atheist Experience TV show. http://www.atheist-experience.com/
Fantastic show put on by The Atheist Community of Austin in Texas. It's a live cable access and internet stream call in show that's put on every week, you can watch years of episodes in the archives section on their website. It's headed up by a lot of very smart and logical minded former christians and they're REALLY good at breaking down atheism vs theism down to it's most logical base and you can really learn a lot about logical counter apologetics, aka, logical debating with theists or proving with logic their claims are irrational. The host in particular is probably the master of logical counter apologetics and as a former christian minister in training has a near encyclopedic knowledge of the bible. It's really opened my eyes to the sheer amount of religious legislation, religious public education and weakening of the establishment clause that's taking place in america. If you ever wondered what atheists have to talk about, watch this show and you'll see there is SO much that needs to be discussed and that as a generally quiet and unorganized group, atheists are only shooting themselves in the foot by not being active and fighting for representation. Or you can watch it if you just want to laugh at batshit crazy christian callers cuz they get plenty of those.
Iron Chariots Wiki www.ironchariots.org
Great resource. It's a counter apologetics wiki created largely by Matt Dillahunty who's the host of The Atheist Experience and the president of The Atheist Community of Austin. Tons and tons of resources if you like to debate or discuss religion or for looking up theist claims or trying to get to the bottom of scriptural spin or false claims.
Talk Origins www.talkorigins.org
Fantastic resource for debunking creationist claims or cutting through bullshit pseudoscience or verifying whether strange religious claims are bullshit or not. The main emphasis is on origins like evolution and abiogenesis as well as some cosmology stuff. The best part about it is their Index of Creationist Claims. Theres a LOT of people on the internet parroting supposed science and masquerading as scientists who make a lot of fantastic claims. Just about every single creationist argument is cataloged and indexed with links to peer reviewed literature that thoroughly debunk every single one.
Thunderf00t's youtube channel www.youtube.com/user/Thunderf00t
He's a scientist that posts a lot of interesting science videos but he's most famous for his hysterical Why Do People Laugh At Creationists? ongoing video series where he investigates and debunks wacko creationist claims using science to illustrate how absurd they are. Really smart guy and hilarious video series.
Potholer54's youtube channel. www.youtube.com/user/potholer54
Great science video maker and debunker. Makes hilarious videos debunking not just theist stuff by all anti science stuff like global warming denial and creationist "science". He's most famous though for the always hilarious Golden Crockoduck Awards which are held every year and voted on by thousands. It's an award given to the most batshit crazy and dishonest creationist apologist every year with the stipulation that they must use misrepresentation of science facts in order to make their arguments. His channel has split off into a couple channels but i'm pretty sure all the good links are there. Iirc, he's a science teacher.
AronRa's youtube channel. www.youtube.com/user/AronRa
Really smart guy and head of some large atheist group in texas. He makes science oriented videos as well as atheist oriented ones. He's particularly famous for his Foundational Falsehoods of Creationism series which does a great job using science to illustrate all the myriad of problems with the biblical creation myth. He's also a great lecturer.
Non Stamp Collector's youtube channel. www.youtube.com/user/NonStampCollector
Crude but fucking hysterical cartoons about the absurdities of the Bible. He's got also near encyclopedic knowledge of it and he really knows his stuff. His one on Noah's Ark is a must see.
Edward Current's youtube channel. www.youtube.com/user/EdwardCurrent
Easily one of my favorites, this guy satarises fundamentalist christians by pretending to be one with his War on Atheism series. The guys is a fantastic writer and actor and his videos are absolutely hysterical and really show how batshit crazy fundamentalism is because up to a point where he finally outright said it was comedy satire, a large chunk of his subscribers were actual fundamentalists who were completely unaware they were being made fun of and having their ass backwards logic exposed for how crazy it is.
Atheist Coffee's youtube channel. www.youtube.com/user/atheistcoffee
Evolutionary biology doctoral student and ex creationist makes a lot of great science videos but his best ones that every creationist or science denier should see is his Why I Am No Longer a Creationist series that breaks down the vast amounts of evidence for evolution into really easy to digest and impossible to deny chunks. Just interesting videos in general.
Eugenie Scott's Intelligent Design lectures. Just search for them on youtube, theres no specific channel.
She's probably the best person we have fighting to keep creationist nonsense and religion out of our public school's science curriculums. She works for the NCSE, National Center for Science Education. She's most famous for her lectures on the political battle against Intelligent Design which is just the latest rebranding of creationism by fundamentalist christians in their attempts to keep teaching of evolution out of our public schools. She was the main person who organized the lawsuit against the Dover PA school board in the landmark decision to get intelligent design out of the science classes there. The lecture is really entertaining and shows what massive frauds these people are and how inept they are at hiding their true motives.
Whether you're an atheist or theist, check these out, they're all very very educational if you're interested in religious subjects.

So who here is an atheist, what kind and why?
Posted 13 years agoSemi follow up journal to my agnostic one. Sorry if i didn't respond to peoples arguments but i have a no arguing on the internet policy and i think i made it fairly obvious what my view on that viewpoint is (or lack there of lol). I say what i want to say, listen to what somebody wants to say, respond to that and that's it.
Since i actually am an atheist, i can actually speak on my own viewpoint of this. I like to think I became an atheist when i was 7 despite being very religiously raised. I didn't "come out" so to speak for another 4 or 5 years (my dad was not pleased to say the least) but there was a moment in my head when i was 7 i specifically remember where my dad was talking to me about an aspect of his religion and my only thought was "This makes absolutely no sense. I think he's lying to me, I think this is total bullshit". I pretty much changed forever listening to that conversation.
As for why i'm an atheist, i guess i just never bought it, i never felt it and it just didn't and doesn't make logical sense to me given all the chaos and randomness and scientific understanding of the natural world we have. As a little kid, i asked god for things, felt RIDICULOUS doing it but was never sure why, and of course i never got them. I think i was just going through the motions due to the upbringing i had, i didn't know any other viewpoint. Now it just seems incredibly simple, it's a fantastic claim for which zero evidence exists so i reject it and due to it's fantastical nature, am willing to assert that it DOES NOT exist. On top of that, i have read all the scriptures and i did not find them plausible, moral (quite to the contrary for the most part), or believable.
As for what kind of atheist. Theres a (imo ridiculous) whole range of atheist ideologies. I personally think it's kindof silly to split up something based on a lack of something into sub sets, to me it all seems like useless mental masturbation and splitting of hairs. But for those that ARE into that, i apparently fall under the category of anti theist i guess. An atheist being basically somebody that rejects claims of the supernatural due to lack of evidence. An anti theist somebody that asserts that there is NO god for the same reason. So in a sense i DO have a belief, but it is based on observation of the way the universe works, lack of evidence, and combined with the fact that i will assert that i disbelieve anything that i find absurd that can't be proved or disproved is false like invisible pink unicorns living on the edge of our galaxy in an intergalactic Arby's restaurant. I find the space Arby's unicorns to be about as credible as belief in a god with equal amounts of evidence to indicate either one. I think if you will not assert that space Arby's unicorns don't exist, you're being disingenuous, but that's just me.
So are you and why are you an atheist? Are you a secular humanist? Humanist? Transhumanist Anti theist? Spirtualist? Or do you think that's all retarded and identify as an atheist like me lol.
Note, this is not a place for bashing of religious people or their beliefs. Douchebaggery will be deleted.

So, who's an agnostic here? And why?
Posted 13 years ago So i was talking to my brother who's an agnostic and i was just curious as to how common this is and why? It's always seemed like such an odd stance to take on what to me seems like a pretty softball thing since really, whether you like it or not or really think about it, the moment you see or contemplate anything, you really are forming an opinion on it to at least a certain extent (I want to bang that chick, that car is ugly, that cloud looks neat etc.). I'm referring to the lack of opinion on the existence of divinity type of agnosticism fyi for this journal.
I suppose i can sorta see the whole scientific approach to it (my brother is in a type of science, go figure) where you're of the mindset "Theres no evidence to point to it and a negative can't be proved, therefore i have zero opinion in either direction.". Yet at the same time he will outright say that ghosts don't exist, or aliens have never visited the earth and any number of supernatural things. I guess i have a hard time rationalizing why on something that fantastical and fundamental you could possibly take no stance whatsoever based on evidence, yet it almost seems hypocritical to take a stance on obvious absurdities like The Flying Spaghetti Monster (Forgive me for bringing up the FSM, i know it's been done to death but it's a great point and still pretty hilarious) or the universe outside of the scope of our telescopes being made of mint chip ice cream, or well, anything you could think up. While it seems absurd to refuse to have an opinion on the existence of divinity based solely on lack of evidence for or against, it seems even more absurd to refuse to have an opinion on the FSM or mint chip universe and the infinite amount of completely ridiculous things that could be dreamed up for the sake of that argument because it's just THAT ridiculous and obviously not true yet meanwhile, theres no evidence for it and you can't prove a negative.
The other agnostic camp seems to be the completely apathetic one. "I don't care about it so i don't have an opinion" which also just seems incredibly strange and well, lazy as fuck or a cop out to me. I mean the existence of divinity would pretty much decide just about everything about the nature of existence and the universe, so you're not moved enough by it to believe in a god which is a very powerful feeling i'm told, yet you're for some weird reason not willing to pull the trigger on saying "I'm an atheist"? I mean i can ask any apathetic agnostic what his opinion on say, the sport of curling is and they'll say "It's guys scrubbing ice with brooms. It's lame as fuck" or Rosie O'Donnell "Lulz, what a fat cunt" or whatever. Yet you can't be bothered to make an opinion on god? Why the hell not? I don't think any agnostic can claim to be devoid of any opinion on everything that doesn't directly affect them. I mean, i don't care about murder mysteries about woman and their cats who solve murders, but they're still lame as hell (my mom loves these).
Ask a christian or a muslim or an atheist and they'll say "Of course there is/isn't a god. That's obvious!!" It just seems to me that if you refuse to make an opinion on whether god does or doesn't exist, it sounds to me like you're wholly unconvinced with the whole god thing, yet something is keeping you from pulling the trigger on atheism, whether it's ancient dogma or the lingering feeling of "But what if i'm wrong? HE'LL HEAR ME D: ".
Am i wrong?

Update on my pops if anybody cares.
Posted 13 years agoSo since nobody else was doing shit, i decided to basically force my step mom to write her and my dad's Murshida (don't ask, i was raised in a weird little cult, think of the murshida as like the pope without the funny hat but also a pair of tits.) and tell her about my dad's drinking and his mental decline. For some reason she didn't want to do this but i figured wtf is a spiritual leader for if not some sort of guidance? She wrote back and basically ordered my dad to go to AA and even found another sufi who's in aa for him to go with. My dad totally shut down the idea, so i told my step mom to enlist his best friend and fellow sufi and he convinced him to go.
Apparently he's supposed to go to 90 meetings in 90 days, and he's been to 5 now and got a coin for 10 days sober and was really proud of it. He's now "One of those AA people" i guess. I have my issues with AA as a pretty retarded organization but they do help people and now my dad's all about it, and he's not drinking and supposedly has been acting better. He's not normal but theres been an improvement, for all we know some of his behavior was him being drunk even more than we thought? i dunno. But it's good news, and fuck do i need some good news right now...

Posted 13 years agoBrb, grenading my fucking harddrive :|
Posted 13 years agoYeah, i can't believe it, i have no idea how but i got some nasty root kits and trojans, best i can tell theres absolutely no way to guarantee that i'll ever have this thing out even if i delete every findable trace of it. NO idea how i got em or where it came from, i'm super careful.
Just letting people know, I might disappear for a couple days, this will have a small impact on my latest sketch commission batch, like maybe a 2 day delay but i always find it takes me roughly a day or two to get all the absurd amounts of programs and design software and drivers and everything back on and how i want it.
really irritated right now :| this is like the last thing i need to be dealing with right now. Just giving ya'll a heads up.

Square Enix, you fucking suck.
Posted 13 years ago>Get excited about Heroes of Ruin for 3ds.
>Buy Heroes of Ruin, game is big disappointment but whatever, 4 player online co op dungeon crawler on a handheld with tons of loot, it's hard for that to not be at least a bit of fun.
>Hear rumors of game breaking bug that occurs IF YOU PLAY THE GAME ONLINE. THe online being the games one redeeming quality.
>Get game breaking bug 15 hours in. Options are to restart the whole game and get the bug again, or quit playing.
>Go on official forum to find out when they will patch game. Find out they not only aren't patching it but they haven't posted in the threads about it or even acknowledged the game is broken. Have thread inquiring about the game breaking bug quietly moved to an off topic part of the forum nobody looks at.
>Post in other threads about the same bug (it's very common, like 40% of people who play it online get it) expressing discontent that they're not even acknowledging it exists.
>Get pm'd by a member of the studio who manages the forum threatening to permanently ban me if i continue to talk about the game breaking bug.
No wonder these douchebags are on the verge of bankruptcy if this is how you treat your consumers. Last SE game i ever buy. If you need something to play on your 3ds, this is not the game.

Sketch commission lot 4 will reopen later today.
Posted 13 years agoJust to avoid confusion i'm taking down the journal while i sleep.
As of now, 2 slots are available, both have been claimed, but as no money has been received for them, they're technically still open. I'll check in when i wake up with them to see if they're still interested. I'll be opening up 4 more shortly when these are done so if you didn't get in on this one, you can be first in line on the next ones.
EDIT: 1 slot is technically still open.
DOUBLE EDIT: This lot is now full. Will open up a new lot shortly.
