Still alive!
Posted 9 years agoWanted to pop in and say I'm still alive, just haven't been really active on here. To be honest, I haven't checked in the last five months, since AnthrOhio (which was a blast, I gotta say, in case I hadn't already.) Still have to post art done for the con, which I may end up doing here shortly.
Anyways, I've been well! Just busy with other things.

Almost time for turkey legs! Er, AnthrOhio, yeah!!! :D
Posted 9 years agoFor those of you going to AnthrOhio http://anthrohio.org/ I'll see ya there!
I'll be flying in on Thursday.
Friday will be my busy day.
3-4pm Opening Ceremonies.
4-5pm GOH Meet/Q&A hour.
5-6pm I have my own panel happening.
The panel I'm hosting is - Pro Non-Pro: the survival of the uncategorized artist. (Because, well, that's pretty much me, and I get the idea it applies to a lot of artists in the fandom.) Discuss the pros and cons of juggling a "day job" with the passion for making art.
Topics will include: organization, scheduling, commissions and not getting fired by the big boss because you pulled yet another all-nighter.
I'll be lurking about other places too, but if you're going, just check the schedule when you get there. :)

No worries, I'm still alive! :D
Posted 9 years agoLast year was a bit crazy busy and so far this one has been too.
After starting the day job, I haven't been doing as much art. It was a needed break, though I haven't been doing nothing. I kind of got sucked into my writing, and its not the sort of thing I can share so readily online as I can with art. Aside from that, I've been letting myself go on little weekend adventures locally since I finally could. You could also say I'm hovering around a sort of crossroads in life too and have been exploring it. Sometimes this means I'm just too antsy to sit down and hole up long enough to do much art.
I'm back on the art train again currently though, getting ready for AnthrOhio in May. I just can't show any of it yet, so it may be a little while more before I upload anything new. :)
Without anything to share, I have let gallery attention fall to the wayside, which is why I haven't been around. I am attempting to retrain myself to checking galleries as well as my public twitter more often, though it'll probably take a bit of time before it becomes routine again.
Anyways, just wanted to pop in and say I'm still alive and well! Life's been pretty good lately and I'm quite happy. I'll leave you with some general links that may be of interest in the meantime.
http://anthrohio.org - AnthrOhio's website. I'll be one of their GOH's this year. Never done anything like this before, so I'm in new territory. If you'll be there, come say hello! I'm still thinking of what to do for a panel and I'm open to suggestions.
https://twitter.com/arphalia - My anthro art twitter. It's been pretty quiet over there lately, but I will breathe some life into it again soon.
https://twitter.com/sarkatsha - This has more or less become my adventure twitter and where I put whale and mermaid art. I tend to pop in there more these days. I have an instagram under the same name. I don't know of a lot of people who use it, but I figured I'd toss it out there.

Long time without a big journal update so here goes!
Posted 10 years agoOkay, wow, so its been a while. Just as I got used to the day job, we went into our busy time of year and I picked up extra hours. Its a physically demanding job (its like being paid to go to the gym for serious) and sometimes checking into online galleries is the last thing on my life of daily to-do's. We're still pretty busy and I'm still on the extra hours but things should start chilling out soon. This being what it is, I've decided to stick to posting to my main account here instead of splitting up my mermaid/cetacean/non-furry into two different ones. Expect a few whales to drop in here from my other account.
I am going to keep my twitters separated though, so for any whale/mermaid/non-furry interested out there, you can find that twitter here - https://twitter.com/sarkatsha (The furry one is https://twitter.com/arphalia and will stay as such.)
I also have a Society6 account for art prints and products featuring this theme of art - https://society6.com/sarkatsha
I may eventually get around to making a separate one for furry work but I'm not sure yet when that will happen. In the meantime, you can find a couple of furry related items over on my RedBubble - http://www.redbubble.com/people/arphalia (I haven't really advertised this page much since there's not a whole lot there yet.)
Let's see. Oh! Tropical Storm Erika may pay me a visit in a few days. I'm ready for some wind, rain and the possibility to get an extra day off. Don't want anything damaging, so hoping for that sweet spot of just-bad-enough-to-get-a-free-day. :D
Anyways, still truckin' along! Cats are fine. I'm fine. Just stupid busy and perhaps feeling a bit detached as a result. Hope you all are well!

AnthrOhio! :D
Posted 10 years agoNot to be confused by all the AnthroCon journals! Not going to AC. :c
BUT WAIT!
Looks like I'll be making it to AnthrOhio (formerly Morphicon) during the spring in 2016 as one of their guests! :o
Never done the GOH thing before, or made it to this con, so all new territory, which is both exciting and scary, but in a good way. So far I've heard its a smaller, chill con and I'm looking forward to it. I'll have to come up with a panel to run, which, I wouldn't mind some input on. From what I understand, there's going to be a different sort of Q&A panel, so this leaves me open to hone in on a specific subject on my own panel. I'd like to do a little something different than a how-to art panel (cause I feel everyone's process is different its impossible) yet still be art related. I have a number of months to figure this out, but wanna get an early start! :D

Still have some art cards available.
Posted 10 years agoThat meme journal is too long to sit as the most recent, so here's a reminder that I do still have some art cards available for purchasing here ---> http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/6652857/
Also, if anyone has an ideas/suggestions of what I can do as art cards, feel free to say so here! Please note, this is not for commissions or a window to ask for your character drawn in one. Its more for general ideas for cards for me to do, then put up for sale. :)

General Update & A-Z Meme
Posted 10 years agoStarted a new day job about a month ago, which is why art has slowed down. Took a bit for it to kick in that I don't have to bust my butt with art to cover necessities but now that my brain understands that, I'm taking some time to enjoy the lack of pressure. Art will return, but right now its nice to just work, come home and get some other things done.
In the meantime, I am stealing a meme from drakenbyte to show I'm still alive! :D
A. What are your favorite smells?
Fresh, cold, open ocean. Wet dirt. Incoming storm. Leather. Pine. Cedar. Most woodsy, forest smells really. Burning wood. Earl Grey. Fresh herbs. Behind my cat's ears.
B. Can you go a whole day without caffeine?
Sure can! I don't do it too much though. I like having a bit of a kick in the morning. I've dramatically cut back on my coffee intake and prefer tea these days.
C. Who knows more about you than anyone else?
I can't really answer this one. I feel like it would require me to figure out who pays the most attention to what little I say.
D. What song did you last listen to?
The radio station at work that I tend to tune out half the time.
E. Do you have a crush on anybody?
I have a pretend crush on the fictional ideal of the perfect sasquatch lover. He carries me on his shoulders into the woods and we chop wood together and sing songs like we're in a musical. Really, its best not to ask.
F. Do you like The Beatles?
Don't have much of an opinion really.
G. If you could choose one color to wear for a whole year, what color would you choose?
Black probably, because I consider it fairly neutral.
H. Do you cook often?
I like to try, because its cheaper.
I. What was the last film you watched? Did you like it?
Been watching Alaska: the Last Frontier lately.
J. Can you sew?
Nothing too complex. My machine is usually always having issues so I've gotten used to hand sewing when I need to.
K. What is your favorite fruit?
RASPBERRIES.
L. Are you health conscious?
For the most part, yes!
M. Go do the Kinsey scale test, what number result did you receive?
Too busy to get further sidetracked. Let's say I scored sasquatch and be done.
N. Do you curse a lot?
A whole lot less than most people it seems. I'm overly aware of where I am and err on the side of caution.
O. When was the last time you had a pint of beer?
Its been months. Only drink socially and lately haven't been around much social drinking.
P. Are you pro life or pro choice?
Choice.
Q. Is there a certain food you often crave for no reason?
RASPBERRIES AND ICE CREAM. And sometimes crunchy soda.
R. What was the last book you purchased?
Orca Song
S. Where was your last vacation?
St. Augustine. Was a weekend or so ago. Last out-of-state vacay was to Lubec, Maine.
T. Do you shave your pits?
Yeah. I get itchy otherwise.
U. Did you ever play seven minutes in heaven?
Nope.
V. Girls, when was the last time you went out without a bra?
The beach at St Augustine.
W. Guys, when was the last time you went shirtless in public?
Still waiting for that.
X. Have you ever broken a bone? If so, how did it happen?
No big ones. May have cracked a small one.
Y. How do you like your eggs?
Eggs aren't a favorite but if I have them, usually scrambled.
Z. What was your last argument about and who with?
Can't say for sure. I very rarely argue with people. I prefer to talk, or walk.

FAQ: India Ink & Watercolors
Posted 10 years agoBeen getting some questions about how I use the inks and/or watercolor. I try and put under each submission, what I used specifically for each piece, but I think sometimes there's confusion (or my write up is so short it gets missed.)
Most of the stuff I do with India Ink, is done as an ink wash: inks applied with a brush, usually diluted with water, though sometimes not. The more water, the more muted, or soft the colors are. For bright vivid colors, its either less diluted inks -or- a build up of many diluted layers of ink. I like using inks more than actual watercolors because I can build up layers without worrying the under layer will lift and bleed. Watercolors tend to lift and bleed (for me at least, possibly because of the brand of paper I use.)
The paper I use is watercolor paper, which may be throwing in some confusion that I primarily use watercolors. I'll use watercolor sometimes, but its not that often. Its a safe bet, its always India ink these days. Sometimes I do combinations, but the watercolor will be an an accent, usually applied after the main ink wash area but before any ink pen additions. (My paper brand is Strathmore Ready-Cut, coldpress. There are plenty of better papers out there but this is a decent paper that won't break the bank!)
Some of my art has some ink pen in there for more dramatic lines. I don't like to use them all the time, especially not if the subject matter should remain on the delicate side, cause the ink pen adds a LOT of contrast and makes the subject sort of pop up from the background. Good for some scenes, not so much for others. The pen I use is a .005 Micron. If they made them smaller, I'd probably use that instead!
The best thing I can recommend for anyone looking to play around with colored inks is to do just that - play around with them. I picked up neat little effects by experimentation with water amounts, layering different colors or even letting two color areas stay wet so they'd bleed into one another before they dry.
To start experimenting, all you really need is a single bottle of ink, a brush, some water and some watercolor paper. You'll get a good feel for how it moves, dries and layers. If its something you find you like, you can then invest in some other colors. That's how I got into them anyway. Mistakes will happen. Ink will get where you don't want it, but part of doing ink washes is to let go of having control and working -with- the mistakes and allow them to add to the piece.
Dunno if that helps answer some questions, but maybe it will! :) If anyone else wants to chime in with tricks, additions and other methods of ink madness, go for it!
Oh! Forgot to add this. It seems to help keep the paper from warping permanently if you tape it down. I use blue painter's tape and pressboard clipboards. All the white boarder areas in my posted art is where the tape was.

They are headshot badges on brown paper, inked with brown & black pens and colored with brown shades of marker and highlighted with a little white gel pen. They are then cut out and laminated over a couple of artificial autumn leaves, cut out again and given a clip.

Also, sorry I'm so quite around here. I get into these work modes and forget how to socialize online. c_c
I want to Patreon, but I'm running into snags.
Posted 11 years agoI've been reading about Patreon and different ways people are setting it up and offering perks but I'm also sitting here feeling either too poor for Patreon or maybe its just nerves. Either way, it kind of feels like I'd need to run a Patreon in order to set up a more substantial Patreon. Here are some of my hang ups:
- The motherboard in my main computer has been broken for a few months now. I really am loathe to talk personal income, but I will say that I usually just cover life basics, so its difficult for me to cover these kinds of "emergencies" very quickly, unless I'm having a particularly lucky moment and happen to have almost what I need already. This is not the current case. The issue here is that without my main machine, I cannot offer patron-only streams as a perk or hell, do stream at all. :/ This was a HUGE reason I went and upgraded my computer last year, so yeah, this kind of sucks to have had this happen less than a year later, but it is what it is and no one could have predicted it. Anyways. Main computer is a tool I need to really get anywhere.
- My printer is also borked. I have a clogged nozzle and therefore cannot print any of the usual small income bumpers that I'd normally do to help me get things like, oh, a motherboard for my computer. I've done this in the past and its worked out nice. I'm not a fan of "emergency commissions" unless someone is in deep doodoo, and have preferred to just offer Happy Packs when I need a bit of extra cash without bothering to emphasize the whole -need- part. Anyhoo, with the clogged (and admittedly elderly) printer, Happy Packs and/or prints are right out. I can't use it for getting a motherboard and can't use it for making Patreon perk merch either.
Aside from these two big things getting in the way of me starting up a Patreon, here is what I would eventually like to do with one:
- Give patrons a first chance to purchase my originals before I offer it to the public.
- Stream the making of these originals. Not talking commissions, but art of my own design. If possible, do these as patron-exclusive streams. This would allow me to do more art of my own and have less of a need to do commissions. I'd likely still do commissions here and there but I do get a good response with my own work and feel like it would be a win/win all around if I was able to do more of it.
- I also have stories to tell and the desire to write and illustrate them but have never been in the financial position to take the risk when it comes down to time and money. Again, I hate talking personal finance but this is how things are and one of the major reasons I think that having a Patreon could really help me out in being able to do the kinds of things I've always wanted to do but could not. I feel like I'd have to work UP to this point, however, as given the lack of having the proper time to solely devote to my stories, I have no real recent and up-to-date examples to entice. Any patron-perks that would be story/art/graphic novel related would have to come later on.
So, uh. Yeah, do people to Patreon's in order to do Patreon's, cause that sure feels like its something I need to do in order to feel like I can come through on any would-be patron promises. Until then, I'm wondering if I should just set up one with 1-5 dollar options people can pick to help me along with these initial goals.

Any interest for full portraits?
Posted 11 years agoI've been doing the mini-portraits for a while now, which are 3.5x5 inches, which is about the size of a postcard. I cut them from sheet of watercolor paper that are twice that size (5x7 inches) and though I have done art on the full size of these sheets, I've only done two commissions in that size so far, which were special cases and done for a friend who asked about the option for something bigger.
I'm considering the idea of opening up for more at this larger size, but am uncertain of the interest in them. The price will most certainly go up for this larger size. Base price would be at, or close to, double what the mini-portraits run but still very much depending on what people wanted on an individual basis. (Might be less than the base price for very simple characters, more for very complicated ones or for pics with more than one character.)
Here's some examples of art I've done on the 5x7 paper.
Amber's Dream Tree (which was a commission)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12408980/
With Me Like Wind (the other commission of this size I've done)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11372568/
Play For Me (did this one for myself)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10191048/
Mom & Baby Orca (made to sell)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11967187/
Willow (another one I made to sell)
http://www.furaffinity.net/view/10614854/
For the most part, the benefits to having the larger size is that there's more freedom for stretching characters across the paper with less concern that they'd be cramped up. There's also more room to expand the background, which (I think) has a nice look to it.
What has stopped me from just opening up for these, is that the cost would be more. With the minis, I'm able to more or less "wing-it" because they are small. I only ask for a few things, like theme/mood and whatnot, then come up with poses myself. Over the years, I've found that this is a freedom I pretty much need in order to keep a reasonable pace. My concern here is that due to the higher cost of larger sizes, that I'd be expected not to have the same amount of freedom or that interest would drop because I would be wanting to retain similar freedoms with these as I do the minis.
Anyway, just wanted to poke around for interest and input here. Probably won't be opening for something of this nature this month, but its possible for next month.

Opening for more mini-portraits!
Posted 11 years agoOpening for more mini-portraits!
Please read this journal completely before commenting!!! :D
In the past I've taken slots without really reviewing the refs of the characters and I thought it was time I started doing things different. I had a new method with that with the last bunch of mini-portraits and it really worked out well, so I'm going to do things in the same way again. First, let me get the description, examples and prices of these mini-portraits out of the way!
What is a mini-portrait? I think of them as an alternative to badges but not as involved (or expensive) as a full illustration. They are done on cold press watercolor paper at a size of 3.5 x 5 inches. (Think postcard size!) They will be done with a mix of India ink and/or watercolor. Simple, portrait-like poses and all that.

Starting price is going to be $45. (Paypal only.) Once finished, they will be mailed to you. If mailing outside of the US, additional shipping may be needed.
What does the starting price mean? Starting price is for more simply designed characters for people who allow me the freedom to come up with poses and color schemes completely on my own. This is how I prefer to work, but I'm not unwilling to follow tighter guidelines for those who are really looking for something specific. If you are interested, but unsure where your character would fall insofar as price, please feel free to ask!! That is part of what this journal is for. :)
So, how do I get in on this? Comment below and link me to the character you are looking to have me work with and tell me a little bit about what you'd like to see. Such as mood, theme, whatever! (No worries, giving me a basic mood and feel will not be what ups the cost!) I'll be reviewing these as they come in and picking out what I feel I can work on. If I don't pick yours straight away, no worries! Sometimes my mood changes for what kinds of things I want to do so there's a good chance I'll come back later and poke ya to see if you're still interested.
To note: This isn't any kind of -official- wait list or anything. Commissions only start officially after payment is received and I plan to spread these out and only take payment when I'm ready and able to do the work. I will be doing these between larger, more involved projects/comms so I can keep a more steady income happening without having either type of comm get in the way of one another and help me prevent feeling burnt out on any one type. :)
ALSO! No need to ask me if I'm still taking these or not as time goes on. If this journal is up and doesn't have an edit where I say that I'm no longer taking these, go ahead and assume that I am, and follow the instructions above. This journal may be around with me actively going through the list for a few months. (Just like the last time!)

I put a t-shirt on RedBubble! :D
Posted 12 years agoChecking out Zazzle led to checking out RedBubble which led to cleaning up a piece that I thought would translate well for a t-shirt. I got completely sucked in and so this happened - http://www.redbubble.com/people/arp.....67-urban-furry
Now I'm on a mission to make other t-shirts. Will probably be sticking to non-anthro for most of these (so they are more wearable out and about to like.. grocery stores and what not) but I'll probably do a few more anthro ones too. But yay! Shirts!! :D:D

Livestream: Info & Rules
Posted 12 years agoHey guys! Since I've started to run short little test streams, I figured it might be a good time to write up some channel rules and guidelines.
(I'm taking A LOT of cues from genesisw's set of rules.)
No Spamming. (Several things fall under this rule.)
- No excessive role-play. Waving hello to a friend or other one-off action poses are fine but no back-and-forth ongoing actions or scenes.
- No spazzy typing. Be thoughtful about your typing patterns. Avoid spazzy multiple lines of minimal text. Such typing speeds up the scroll and makes the chat difficult to follow for everyone else.
- No self-promotion. Its fine to talk about projects you're excited about but please do not use my stream as your billboard for advertisement.
Ratings and general etiquette.
- Keep topics PG. Not everyone is comfortable with adults-only topics. I'd like to keep the channel sexcapade-free.
- Ask before linking. If you have a link to share with the chat, please ask permission first and tell me what it is you are linking to. If you get permission, please use a link shortening site such as https://bitly.com/ to avoid Livestream's chat messing it up. This rule is in place to help avoid people posting links to random porn, screamers, etc, as well as to keep everyone from going link-crazy in the channel.
- Mind your manners. Keep in mind that not everyone believes as you do, be it politically, religiously or whatever. Certain topics may come up from time to time that make these differences more obvious. When this happens, I expect maturity. Feel free to have discussions but keep insults and name-calling out of my stream. If a topic does get out of hand, we've got the Bacon Rule.
- The Bacon Rule. I'm adopting Gen's Bacon Rule. She explains it best so I'm going to quote from her rules here, "When we reach a topic where people are genuinely starting to get offended, we call 'bacon'. Bacon means we stop talking about the current topic and move on. I like the bacon rule because it's a much more positive means of changing the topic than simply telling people to stop. It gives people an out. As an aside though, 'bacon' is not for a single person to use who simply wants to change the conversation because they don't like it. It's a tool for stopping a large conversation that is getting out of control."
- Should you find yourself getting corrected by myself or a mod.. Should you find yourself reminded of a rule by myself or a mod, please don't take offense. No one is out to embarrass you, but when little mistakes come up, its a good time to remind -everyone- about the rules. It helps keep out future excuses such as, "But -they- did it!" This is also not the time to get defensive, argue about a rule or question it. Again, no one is out to embarrass anyone by reminding you of a rule or correcting certain behavior. No need to get rude or start in with passive-aggressiveness.
Art Related Etiquette
- No requests. This is not that kind of stream.
- Please do not ask about your commission in stream. If you have a question about a commission you have with me, shoot me a note here on FA or email me. The stream channel is not the place to ask about it or attempt to hash out details. That said..
- Do not try and commission me in-stream. Because I am working on art and trying to keep up with the chat, it is impossible for me to give your would-be maybe-future commission ideas the proper attention they need. Note me instead.
- I -will- miss stuff. Please don't be offended if I miss a question. Half of my time spent in the stream is looking down at what I'm working on. I'll certainly try and keep up with the chat but sometimes answers will be delayed or I may miss a question completely. If its been a minute or two and I still haven't answered your question, you're welcome to ask again. :)
Bold, Underline, Colors, etc.
- Bold is reserved for mods.
- Underline is reserved for a commissioner whose art I am working on in-stream.
- Italics are hard to read so lets not even use it.
- Name colors, I would prefer to keep on the medium/dark side of the spectrum. Lighter colors are harder to read against the white chat background. A mod or myself will let you know if you need to change your name color. :)
- CAPS Do not type in all caps. Every now and then if you use them to emphasize a word, I'm not going to care, though if you are someone who FREQUENTLY emphasizes WORDS in THIS MANNER I will ask you to try -this- way of doing it instead.
- Login is required.. if you want to participate in the chat.
That pretty much sums up everything. Rules may be edited as I gain experience running streams.
General Information
Where I stream - http://www.livestream.com/arphalia
Schedule - I do not have a set schedule yet. I want to get used to streaming first and try out different times of the day/night before picking a set schedule.
What kind of camera? Cisco Precision HD USB
How do you have it positioned? I have mounted a board to the wall behind my desk and the webcam is taped to it. (This setup may change later to something more adjustable.)
(I'm taking A LOT of cues from genesisw's set of rules.)
My Stream Goal
The goal I have with wanting to stream is to give people a window into how I work,
to answer questions about such and to hang out and talk to viewers as while I work.
I'd like the channel to be an inviting, chill, and pleasant place to visit.
The rules below are in place to help this goal along.

Mini Portraits: Info & List
Posted 13 years agoI haven't figured out my pricing for these yet but at some point I'll get it sorted out and put all that info up in here. For now, have a description.
Description: Mini Portraits are done on cold press watercolor paper. Its a textured and pretty thick paper! They will be done with a mix of India ink and/or watercolor and won't be overly complex and leaning a bit towards the abstract. Simple, portrait-like poses and all that. They are approximately 3.5 by 5 inches.
This is sort of an alternative to badges but not as involved (or expensive) as a full illustration. I'm tryin' to bridge a gap here without going as small as an art card.

Moulin Rouge Badges: Info & List
Posted 14 years agoFWA 2012 has its theme as "Moulin Rouge" and I wanted to do another limited series based around the theme. My intent with these badges is to make them appear kind of like vintage posters.
Deadline for all Moulin Rouge badges will be March 1st or FWA.
Limited Number: This series will consist of no more than 28 badges. (I picked the number 28 since 82 is a part of the address of the Moulin Rouge and there is NO WAY I'm doing 82 of these!)
How they are made: These are all going to be 6x4 inches in size, a bit larger than I usually make badges. The art will be done on brown paper in colored pencils, ink, marker, gel pens and pretty much whatever I feel will fit for any one particular badge. Some may have metallic leaf, some may not, etc. The brown paper will be mounted on black card stock, which will give it durability and a frame. They will then be laminated. Character, background and lettering will all be done by hand.
Cost: Between the size and complexity of these badges, the cost will be $50. I will only be taking paypal.
Do I have to be going to FWA to get one? Certainly not! I'll mail these out anywhere.
Additional Note: I'm gonna go ahead and ask that no one ask for a specific pose for these. You can, however, give me cues such as "dancing" and the like. I don't do well when people want something exact. Generalized moods and suggestions are totally fine.
How Get? I'll be opening up for these by the end of November. I'll do a few slots at a time and will be putting out journals to let people know when that will happen. THIS JOURNAL IS NOT WHERE YOU GET ONE. *ahem* Just so we're clear on that. This is just where I'll be linking back to for informational purposes. Basically, just watch my journal posts. They'll be obviously marked in the subject lines.

Scrap Back Badges: Info & List
Posted 14 years agoOPEN FOR THEM! :D Please read the whole thing before commenting. :)
I've decided to do some of these badges before throwing myself into the next limited series, so here we go. :)
Scrap Back Badges are done on brown paper using inks, colored pencils and gel pens. They are then cut out and placed over some fancy paper. I've backed the fancy paper with black card stock for durability (which also adds a nice framed sort of look). As for size, it varies, but certainly cover more surface than a playing card.

Limitations are that I really have a lot of creative control with these. No specific outfit details, no pose requests. All I'd need from you is a link to a pic of your character and (if its not obvious) a couple sentences about the character's personality and I'll take it from there.
I am also on papers that I have. Not all of them are glittery. I'll pick the paper that I feel would best suit the art and character. If all this sounds good to you, keep reading!
Cost is $40. I take paypal only. You can either have it mailed to you, or I can hold it and bring it with me to Anthrocon. If mailing, please include another $5 for shipping purposes.
NOW THEN! For the moment, I'm only going to take three slots. First comment, first get..
HOWEVER, if you see that you've missed getting a slot DON'T BE UPSET!! D: Cause here's the fun part.:) Since this isn't a limited series, I can come back to this journal anytime and pick from those who have stated an interest. :) If you wanna lure me with a link to the character you'd want done, feel free to put that link in a comment! (Feel free to ask questions about the badges here as well.)

Route 66 Badges: Info & List
Posted 14 years agoThis was going to be a limited badge series of 66 badges to be completed by MFF 2011. I ended up having to cancel the series due to some life events that popped up and made me uncertain about being able to complete it before the deadline. However, I had sold a few slots prior to that and ended up offering commissioners the option to switch over to a different badge type, just in case the whole limited series thing was a part of the buying appeal. But no one wanted to switch so we've ended up with a VERY limited series instead. XD
Since I have the template, I may end up opening up for these again at some point and eventually hit that 66 number but for now these are closed. If I do open up again I will be adhering to the limited number so no more than 66 will ever be made.
If you do find yourself looking at these and REALLY like them and want one, do feel free to send me a note. They are $40. I'm just not advertising the slots at the moment. :)

Drink Me Badge: Info & List
Posted 14 years agoTHIS IS JUST THE INFO JOURNAL.
PLEASE READ THE WHOLE THING OKAY. :)
Running on the "Furries in Wonderland" theme of FWA 2011, I started taking these badge commissions on after I finished my Wonderland series.
How they are made/materials used: These are drawn, inked and colored on brown kraft paper card stock, using colored pencils, markers and gel pens. Then, it is cut out to have its bottle shape, laminated and cut out again. After that, a tag is added around the neck of the bottle so it will not slide off the bottom. On that tag, "Drink Me" is added to one side and the name of the character is on the other.
Size and restrictions:These are a little taller than a playing card, as well as a bit narrower. They are not big badges. Because they aren't big, and the character is going to have to be somewhat squeezed into the bottle, I had to simplify the characters a bit. Please keep this in mind.
How do I get one? I am currently not taking on any more of this badge type. I am considering them retired.

Wonderland Badges: Info & List
Posted 14 years agoWhen FWA announced its "Furries in Wonderland" theme for 2011, I had this crazy idea! I'd took a deck of cards, using them as backgrounds for badges.
Jokers, Aces and Faces were drawn on white paper, inked and colored with pencils and accented with various gel pens. (Some Ace cards had the addition of iridescent confetti ala mosaic application. Jokers have the addition of red cellophane.) After the art was done, the figure was cut out and laid over the card with either gold or silver leaf scattered about the background.
Number cards were drawn on brown paper, inked and colored in marker and pencil, accented with various gel pens. They were then cut out and placed over the card before lamination.
Each finished badge was given a ribbon to match the suit (red or black) which was attached to the badge clip. (These ribbons are removable, cause hey, not everyone likes ribbons.)
My due date for these to be finished is March 1st, 2011 and barring a couple of people being a bit late getting refs to me, I'm going to hit that deadline. :D
THERE ARE NO MORE OPEN SLOTS FOR THIS BADGE SERIES!
However, I do plan on doing other limited badge series in the future.

Posted 16 years agoI thought it would be interesting to list as many as I could in one place. There are retired, current, and limited series badges listed in here. This is not a complete list.
SINGLE-CHARACTER DIGITAL BADGES - These are drawn and inked by hand, then colored digitally. They are all but retired at this point. I limit how many I take of these at cons. (These are the ones that come with the matching keychain.)

I should note that this journal is not a place to ask for a badge commission. I don't have 'open commissions' as a constant state. However, I do badge slots from time to time in my FA journal or at conventions.
Also, if you current have a badge (or any) commission with my currently (ie: you paid me) you may click on the link below that reads 'commission queue' to see progress. If there are questions or concerns, please note me directly.

CONTACTING
FA notes are perfectly fine to contact me about your commissions. If you'd prefer email, and do not have it, please note me and ask for it. If you do not use notes, comment here with your email and I will email you back.
COMMISSION PRICES
My prices fluctuate depending on what you want. If I am open for a particular type of commission, there will be a journal about it, which is where base prices will be found.
COMMISSION INQUIRIES
Though I mainly take work through slots in journals, it never hurts to make an inquiry. Please note that sometimes it takes me a few days to reply to inquiries. If my current work load is busy, I may hold off on looking the inquiry over in depth. I do this so I can stay focused on current commissions without distraction.
To make an inquiry, simply note me with the following:
- What medium you want. (Go through my gallery to see what I offer. I usually state the medium in the info sections. You are welcome to link to art in my gallery/scraps to show me an example of what you'd like.)
- What size you want. (I also usually state the size in the info sections of each image too.)
- How many characters. (Please provide me with ref links so I can see them up front. I am limited with certain mediums/sizes when it comes to character detail/complexity, so I will need to see what your characters look like.)
- Mood/Theme. (So I can get a feel for the sort of feel you want.)
- Let me know up front if you require specific poses or backgrounds. I work better with general moods and themes than I do with very specific directions. (There are exceptions to this, but it really depends on what you want.)
NOTE: I currently only work in traditional mediums due to a lack of a desktop that can handle larger digital files. Any traditional piece will be mailed to you as part of the commission. If within the US, tracking will be provided. If outside the US, additional shipping costs may be required.

TRADING ART FOR THINGS I am not opposed to trading, however, I very rarely do it. You're free to note me and ask but please PLEASE don't be offended if I can't accept. It is usually a matter of me needing my art time to focus on commissions.
