NaNoWriMo, take 2.
Posted 10 years agoSo I'm planning on trying this again this year, and hopefully succeeding where I failed last time.
This year, I have a more solid idea what I want to do, so that'll help, but the problem is, I have two ideas!
One of them is detailing the history of my space-bird character, Vershaft ( http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/.....uincy-Vershaft ).
The other involves Kawheek ( http://www.furaffinity.net/gallery/...../58926/Kawheek ) in a giant mecha through circumstances I haven't figured out yet.
So if either of these appeals to you, feel free to mention it. Or, on the other hand, ask questions. I love questions! :>

TF Flash Fiction suggestions
Posted 11 years agoIf you've ever wanted to see a story added to a piece of art I've uploaded, or just wanted to see one of my characters turned into something, it's a good day for you! I'm taking suggestions for Transformation flash fiction that people want to see, and will be uploading the results later!
Character list: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7814479/ , plus Lindsey Stelzer

NaNoWriMo.
Posted 11 years agoSo I'm planning on doing a TF-themed NaNoWriMo next month, using http://www.furaffinity.net/view/7814479/ as an idea seed. I'm torn between two ideas right now, one being City of Heroes ish, and one being more Mortal Kombat.
So I'm submitting for people to see the blurbs, see if they have any thoughts, suggestions, character preferences, TFs they want to see...go nuts in the comments!
"(XXX) city is under attack. Dark forces have sprung up and each seeks to remake the city in thier own image, or failing that, split it among themselves. Can an unlikely alliance of heroes across dimensions avoid falling prey to them, or even save the city?"
"A free for all tournament for an unimaginable prize. Many will enter, but beware, losing costs more than just your pride. Your very form and shape are on the line!"
Whatcha all think?

Arrow's fighting game!
Posted 11 years agohttp://www.furaffinity.net/view/7814479/
So I've been kinda musing about this for a long time, as a spectacle fighter style fighting game. Combos, super moves, finishers, etc.
I figured I'd open it up to the public to see if they had any thoughts or things they'd want to see. Feel free to ask any questions you need to to understand; I'll upload data here frequently to modify it.
For now: (this may change)
Highest HP: Nathan(both forms, Thenyr)
Lowest HP: Melody, Patrick, Kawheek
"Strong" characters: Fenrir-Nate, Thenyr, Nathan
"Fast" characters: Kawheek, Richard, Vershaft

Roleplaying with Arrow.
Posted 11 years agoSo a frequent question I get is whether I'll RP with people. And while I do definitely like to RP, the fact of the matter is I don't have time to RP with everyone who asks. It's nothing against you, personally. It's simply time considerations.
You can continue to ask, just don't be offended if the answer is 'no.'
If anyone wants to RP with me, the most effective ways are listed below.
Primarily, I roleplay on The Realm of Kaerwyn (www.kaerwyn.com). Its free and public, if you're interested in playing, that's probably your best bet. Make sure to read the rules.
If a setting isn't your style, having a solid RP idea that really trips my trigger will help, since I like the interesting ideas.
Hope this helps people out.

The Oculus Rift buyout
Posted 11 years agoI've been hearing a lot about this lately, and I figured I'd make my thoughts known.
I know a lot of people were really enthused about the Oculus Rift and feel let down(or worse) at the buyout by Facebook. But, honestly? I can't get too worked up over it. I know the Oculus is cool and all, but I was never really sold on the idea.
I honestly feel, and have kvetched before, about the fact that I feel too many game developers these days pump all their effort into making sure their games have shiny graphics, and do this to the extent of actually hurting the game in other areas, notably, gameplay, storyline, and especially length. Ten years ago, the idea that we'd pay upwards of fifty bucks for a six to eight hour game would have been viewed as bad joke. The fact that the market would consist mostly of clones of similar games, even moreso. The Oculus was not liable to change this trend, and in fact, was liable to worsen it.
Furthermore, most games frontload their graphics ANYWAYS. The best graphics are in the first quarter to third of the game, IE, the part you'll see if you rent the game or are playing it at a friend's place. A number of games drop off on some of the shinier effects after about the halfway mark; if you've played that far, you've already bought the game and since they have your money, they no longer need to 'sell' you on it.
"But what about the Omni treadmill?" you say. And I'll admit, that the OR and Omni would be the best we're liable to achieve in probably the next 10-15 years in full VR. But most games that used the Oculus were never going to incorporate the Omni treadmill, they'd just use the Oculus. There's also the fact that getting both devices is a SUBSTANTIAL investment for the average person and so most people generally wouldn't have them both anyways, along with the fact that too many trends for gaming focus against the heavy effort that using an Omni would be over the long term. There's also the fact that the Omni treadmill cannot replicate certain effects better than a keyboard can, and possibly worse. (Particularly, various jumping effects, such as the Scout's double-jump in TF, or most rocket jumping techniques.) Finally, the Omni would require an entirely different set of muscle memory commands and adjustments. I'm not saying it couldn't shift the paradigm(and would be glad if it did!), but I don't see it likely at the current price point.
Now, to be fair, I also agree that Facebook is probably not the best end-owner for the OR technology, as they're not a company I can really see using the technology in a super-innovative way. Perhaps they just intend to license it out as a cash cow, I don't know. Not really sure anyone does, at this point.
I realize these opinions put me in the extreme minority of gamers, but they're my honest thoughts, and I figured I might as well put them out there for people to see.

Upload incoming.
Posted 12 years agoOriginally, I was holding off on further uploads because I wanted to have 3P story all in one block for easier perusal by future readers.
But, as has been visible by the fact that most of the chapters have under 50 views and it's been up for FIVE MONTHS, I've decided that having them in a block isn't that important, since it's not like anyone's actually reading it, anyways.
So, I guess I'll upload some art later tonight. Watch for it.
Guess that's why I've got the watches for anyways. Which is fine, it just is discouraging to pour so much effort into a story and get a collective "Meh".

Asperger's Syndrome and Sandy Hook (GUEST POST)
Posted 13 years agoGuest posted from a near and dear friend of mine who will go by RaptorialTalon for this entry.
"The news media has been reporting that the perpetrator of the mass murder in Newtown, CT, Adam Lanza, may have had Asperger's Syndrome or some other autism-spectrum condition. However, the media rarely offers perspectives from other people with Asperger's, such as myself, to add context to events like these.
In the struggle to find an explanation for this gruesome crime, a great many people seem to be rushing into excessive speculation and unjustified assumptions. You see, Asperger's is not associated with violence. It's not a symptom of the condition. It can, however, be a symptom of desperate, isolated people who have been cut off from reality, and unfortunately this does happen to some people with Asperger's. Asperger's is primarily a social disability, so without a strong social foundation to keep them grounded in reality, some individuals with Asperger's can live in a highly skewed version of the world.
But please, don't go tossing around half-formed explanations or try to invent connections where there are none. Asperger's is a highly diverse condition. To my understanding, Steven Spielberg is on the record as having Asperger's – his "fixation" is making movies. There's a world of difference there. A credible case can also be made that Thomas Jefferson, Wolfgang Mozart, and Albert Einstein – as well as many other brilliant and influential historical figures – either had Asperger's or had very similar personality traits. I myself am in grad school pursuing a master's in counseling – a career that requires high social and emotional intelligence, which are areas of deficiency for most people with Asperger's. Yet I'm doing well in my program, and I firmly believe that these limitations can be challenged and overcome by most individuals with this condition.
My point is, please don't stereotype us as violent, stupid, bizarre, deranged, or helpless. Many of us have great difficulty with the social demands of society, it's true, but many of us also have successful careers as engineers, professors, authors, and in other disciplines. And we already deal with immense stigma from almost everyone around us. It's very hard to generalize about the personalities of people with Asperger's, so please don't lump us in with a single disturbed individual. Most of us are a hell of a lot more normal than most people seem to realize.
And please, also, don't blame his mother's murder on her supposedly poor parenting. Asperger's and most other mental conditions are not caused by poor parenting, and even great parenting is not a perfect solution to the challenges faced by young Aspergerians. Calamities like these may be shocking and confusing, but they are not random – they are led up to by definite causes. Let us not sweep an event like this away as being somehow inexplicable – every effect has a cause. As we collectively search for the causes in this case, let us remember that personalities and social relationships are highly complex, not things that can be explained in a phrase, a sentence, or a handful of news articles.
I know the news focuses more on the negative images of Asperger's (and other mental conditions) than on positive depictions, because it's easier to sensationalize the negative aspects into drama, which brings attention and ratings. Yet this just isn't an accurate picture of the situation. I urge people not to rush to judgment before digesting the full range of influences and contexts involved in this or any other tragedy.
There's also a misconception that people with Asperger's are inherently deficient in empathy or conscience. Not so. While I have met individuals with Asperger's who have violent tendencies, for many of them it's because of a comorbid anger-management disorder. More importantly, I have also met many people with Asperger's who are some of the most empathetic, gentle, helpful people on the planet. Practically all of us were ostracized as kids, but this gave many, many of us a strong sense of social justice - a passion to defend others, not a tendency to hurt others.
I too am highly empathetic, and that is why I want to wish my deepest condolences and sympathy to the families of those who lost loved ones in this horrific crime. No explanation can bring closure to that kind of grief, but I hope that at least the explanations will be the correct ones.
America stands with you.
(Please re-post this wherever you see someone who appears to be confused about what Asperger's means in the context of this terrible situation.)"

Maybe someone can help me...
Posted 13 years agoLast year at MFF, I came across an artist in the Artist's Alley that had a card for "Sonic Spin Artwork", or similar. I took a card to find their FA, but forgot about it.
Then I ran the card through the wash. It was close to MFF this year, so I looked for them in the alley but didn't re-see them.
So to wrap this all up, anyone around here know of this individual who does art under this name? Thanks in advance for any help.

SOPA de mierda.
Posted 13 years agoI'd go on a lecture about the bill, but really, other people have said it better already. So I'll keep it short.
If you haven't already been opposing SOPA and PIPA, you should go find out about it and then contact your local congresscritter and tell them not to vote for it. Tell your friends and family to support you; explain what this will do to the internet we know and love.
Hell, even *MY* gallery would be yoinked under SOPA provisions, because of several pics which could be said to infringe copyright. They're derivative works, but as the burden of proof would lie on *ME*, it'd take me a lot longer to get them back up than it would for the MPAA and such to get them taken DOWN.
So make your stance against SOPA clear, especially if you like any of the following pictures:

Done!
Posted 14 years agoWell, there's the upload. I dug deep into the vault to make this one worth it, since I know a lot of you really like the Shiro art.
Curiously, while I have your attention, what do people think of my writing? Yeah, all three of you who actually read the writing I do. How is it? Any advice, thoughts?

Ok, fell behind a bit...
Posted 14 years agoCoding up the upload now.
Well...
Posted 14 years agoSince it's my Hatchday, you can probably expect an upload today. I'll get it up in a bit if FA doesn't get DDOSed again.
Raccoon Day
Posted 14 years agoFor no particular reason, today I'm uploading a bunch of raccoon stuff for the hell of it.
Also, I'll be out of town until next week.

TF story commissions!
Posted 15 years agoSo, I've finally decided that I'm going to start trying to run story commissions, like the type I have in my gallery. Quick, short, few page TF shots. I'm going to start this off small, with a queue of only TWO slots, so I can ensure that I get things done reasonably.
Cost will be $10, payable AFTER I complete the work, but before I send it. This might change after I'm sure I can work on a deadline.
Alternately, if you can't afford to pay, or you don't want to, you can instead offer to illustrate a story already in my gallery, or write a description of a picture I have. You would need to contact me BEFORE doing anything, because I'm a bit particular about my characters and their portrayals, and there's some things I might not want detailed further, and I'm not sure on which those are right now. Beyond that, it'd work entirely as a trade. Any picture you can find on dA or FA with my name referenced as the commissioner is fair game for the story description, just...again, please note me.
Anyways, have at it!
