Completely Self-Absorbed Journal
General | Posted 15 years agoThis is gonna sound really self-centered, but I love seeing how other people draw my character. I used to be real anal about how people did him (the proportions, etc.), but now I kind of like to see how people take Jaroq and modify him in their own style. Some people make him real cartoonish and silly, other makes him real threatening or an extreme sexual beast. I like looking through them and thought I'd post all the depictions of my character here.
There are some artists who have left FA and sadly, I can't find the drawings.

IM should stand for "Instant Mating"
General | Posted 15 years agoI'm on instant messenger getting to know someone, just talking about characters, ambitions, art, etc. when the person asks me, "By the way, will you be my mate?"
No...no, I will not and here's why.
I've only known you for a few minutes! By "mate," I assume you mean a boy/girlfriend, a life partner. For something to be your "mate," you have to know them for a while, be friends with them, I don't know...maybe meet them face to face! I realize some people can carry on a long-distance relationship over e-mails and instant messages, but I'm not one of those people. I'm not opposed to meeting people online and then finding them in the real world and becoming friends, but when you're asking someone to be your "mate" through instant messaging, you're not really falling in love with that person because you've never met that person! You've only fallen in love with their avatar, with what they choose to tell you and what they choose to put on the internet.
I realize some of you may be shocked by this, but I'm not an 8'2" tiger. As a person, I am very different from my character. There are things you may like in him that you do not like in me and vis-versa, so you can't see a picture of Jaroq, think he's hot, and ask me to be your "mate" judged solely on that image. Being "mates" online is akin to being boyfriend and girlfriend in middle school: you don't know what it means and all that it comes with, and in a matter of days, it's over either because you found someone knew or just got bored.
And I'm not ranting about one specific person, mind you. This has happened to me like five or six times!
Another thing while I'm on the subject of instant messaging: I'm sorry that I can't be online all day long. I'm not hooked up to my computer with a case of Red Bull, hot pockets, and no sunlight like a god damned WOW player. I have a job, I have friends outside of the fandom, and (dare I say it?) I want some time to myself every now and then! I cannot (nor do I want to be) on IM or on Second Life every waking moment of my life so you can about how much you want to fuck me!
Jesus Christ! Go outside and make some real friends!

My Fifty Favorite Albums
General | Posted 15 years agoThe last journal I posted was a pretty depressing post about my family, my job, and my all around misery. I got a lot of friendly replies and I want to thank everybody who read and responded. It's nice to know that someone's listening and someone cares. So in a complete non-sequitur:
HERE’S MY FIFTY FAVORITE ALBUMS!
In 2003, Rolling Stone compiled a list of The 500 Greatest Albums of All Time. http://archer2000.tripod.com/sbs/awardsrs500.html I’m not one to put much faith in this magazine (whatever you do, don’t look at their list of the 100 Greatest Albums 2000-2009, Kanye is all over it), but I’d decided since I only own like twenty CDs and a pretty vacant iTunes library, that I needed to expand my musical horizons. Thus far, I have listened to 194 of the 500 albums (as opposed to 31 when I first printed it out).
There’s plenty of places where I disagree with the list. For example, Enimem is on there twice and many seem to be included because of their impact on music (most are from the 60’s and 70’s), despite whether anyone thinks they’re still great albums. A few bands have almost all of their albums listed in addition to a greatest hits album (huh?). But there were actually a lot of instances where I listened to an album and exclaimed “Oh, wow. I’d always wondered who sang that song.”
This list is a tenth of Rolling Stone’s but I’m really not a musical expert: I don’t know what pitch and meter are, I can’t read sheet music, and I can’t distinguish between punk rock, progressive rock, and industrial rock, but here they are anyway. I am cheating by adding some greatest hits albums. This isn’t to say these are the only bands I like: these are just the albums that I love listening to over and over again, start to finish.

General | Posted 15 years ago[WARNING] May contain emo. Manufactured on equipment that processes emo.
I've been real depressed lately. For the past month or so my parents have been arguing nonstop. They've been together for 28 years and while they've had disagreements, it's never been like this. My dad has moved into the basement office and they're hardly talking now. I've heard my mom crying a lot, which really bothers me because she almost never cries. The only other time I've seen her cry is when we had to put our dog down.
I've talked to them both and it seems like my Dad "isn't happy where his life and his marriage are." My sister talked to my mom and she apparently begged my Dad to stay with her. So I guess my Dad is just bored with the marriage. I really hope this doesn't mean he's seeing somebody else. I don't know what to do. This is really between my parents. They've both made it clear that it's nothing my sister and I have done. I don't know if there's anything I can do.
My sister has been taking it real hard. She drove out to a party last night and got real shit-faced (she's under the legal age, by the way). I got a call from her around 1am and had to drive her home. I'm glad she called instead of trying to drive home drunk, since he has wrecked a friend's car before while drunk. She cried the whole way home saying she couldn't stop thinking about mom and dad drifting apart. They always seemed real happy together. Maybe I just couldn't see it?
Job hunting is the same ecstatic affair. All the publishing world is in a flux right now and what few jobs there are aren't going to go to greenhorns like me. They're going to rehire the people who had lost their jobs...you know, people with experience.
You could say I was dealt a real shitty hand with the economy of the entire western hemisphere doing a nosedive just months before graduation, but I can't keep blaming everything that happens to me on external circumstance. I majored in Creative Writing and Art, what kind of skills do I put on a resume? I know the alphabet! I can file things!! My birthday this year happened to be the same date that I graduated and while I was celebrating with friends over and cake and all, I couldn't help feel real depressed that night. It was one year since I entered the real world and I'm still living with my parents working 20 hours a week for $7.50.
I guess I should be happy I have anything at all.
For years, I just blindly accepted the idea that if I went to college and got a degree, I could get a job right out of school. It might not be my dream job, but I could certainly work my way up. But now, I can't even get an internship.
Maybe I should go back to school and get a degree in something useful?
I'm sorry to be so whiney. Please forgive me.

Cleaning Out Favorites
General | Posted 15 years agoI just deleted like...100 pictures from my Favorites because they don't exist anymore. I first noticed it while I was filling out the Moodboard Meme. They're just placeholders. So many artists are removing art or leaving FA and deactivating their accounts. Why do that? If you want to pursue other things, why not leave up all your art. I guess some people are ashamed of their older work, but then you have a reference for how much you've improved. I dunno.
I made a chocolate cake earlier today and dumped in some peppermint extract (like 2 tsp) and while the whole kitchen smelled like mint, it tasted great. I was tempted to add orange extract, but I'm glad I didn't.
I'm thinking of doing a comic.

General | Posted 15 years ago10 Things I wish I could say to people:
* Your art is fantastic. However, your personal, egotistical, god-like opinion of yourself makes it all worthless.
* Remember a few years ago conservatives would say if you don’t approve of the president, you’re a terrorist and should move to France? Whatever happened to that idea?
* Please learn to speak English...and I’m not talking about immigrants, I mean the “I are tlayy 0wnD j00b!! LOLOLOL!!!!!111111” shit.
* Who Would Jesus Bomb?
* There are other people in the world. It’s not all about you.
* Try thinking for yourself instead of waving your dogma in my face.
* Stop talking about the Founding Fathers: people change, societies change, ideals change. It’s not the same country it was in 1776.
* How does soldier’s killing one another solve our problems?
* Back in my day, we didn’t buy jeans with holes in them! It was a source of pride to wear the holes in them yourself!
* “Be the change you want to see in the world.” - Mahatma Gandhi
9 Things about myself:
* The human race in general is constantly annoying me, but the only person I truly hate with every fiber of my being is Mr. Fred “God Hates Fags” Phelps. I don’t even hate Bush that much!

Guess What Everybody?!!
General | Posted 16 years agoI'm unemployed as of today. Wanna hear how it happened?
I work at a Papa Murphys - a take and bake pizza place - and I was on the register. The only other person with me is my supervisor, Dustin. A man comes in with a gift certificate for ten dollars and wants to guy a pizza, but he asks if he could keep the certificate because his four-year-old son wrote "Dad" on it and this is apparently the first time he has done that. So since the gift certificate has a real sentimental value to this guy, I ask my supervisor if we could maybe make a photocopy and give him the original with "void" written on it. Dustin says it's probably okay, so I do just that.
The next day I come into work and there's a note on the desk for me. Apparently, even though I ok'ed my actions with the supervisor, my behavior is "totally unacceptable" and I'm being suspended for two god damn weeks. This is over a $10 gift certificate, mind you. It's a minimal wage job and I don't get that many hours, but I could have made $250 in those two weeks. Dustin was suspended, too, but two weeks seems pretty harsh for either of us. I would have gladly pulled ten dollars out of my wallet and given it the store. I wasn't trying to steal from the store, I was trying to be nice!
I spent the two weeks working on my resume and trying unsuccessfully to find a new job. Luckily an old employer at a framing store had some truckloads of art supplies to unload and organize for other stores. One of these nights would be immediately after the two weeks when I'm supposed to go back to Papa Murphy's, so while I was making a little money, I said I couldn't do tonight. I go back to the store today and lo, and behold! the manager tells me I'm being fired...WHAT?
I like this manager a lot, she's a lot better than my cranky older one who moved to another store, but come on!! It wasn't her decision, it was made higher up in the company by the area supervisor but I barely said anything while I was there. I jsut took my last check and left. While I was walking out, the area supervisor calls the store and I really wanted to grab the phone away from the guy on the register and give him some fury. I kept my composure, though.
By the way, Dustin, the supervisor kept his job. That's real fair, isn't it? These people thought I was a good worker, too. They were going to send me to a supervisor class next month. Now all that's gone. Also, I could have got 5 hours or so tonight unloading that truck. Why not tell me I'm fired up front? Why wait two weeks to tell me and make me miss another job? I hope that customer enjoys his fucking gift certificate with "Dad" written on it. Now I have to find another job in a shitty economy to pay off my worthless college degree.

Artist MEME
General | Posted 16 years agoHere we get to talk about the artist, and their opinions on their own work. We also get a look at their most popular pieces. Remember to include a link to the pictures you mention if you have one! Please answer the following:
1: Which picture of yours has the most views?
“Clydesdale Cock” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/771840/ with 2,628 views and 156 +fav;s. The picture is over two years old and I’m kind of surprised. Yeah it has a monstrous horse penis, but I think I’m a lot better now.
2: Which picture of yours has the highest +favorite to view percentage?
“The Ropes” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/488568/ at 38%
3: Which picture of yours is your personal favorite, and why?
That’s a tough one. I’m torn between the raw, powerful body in “Jaroq Profile” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3117873, the warm lighting effects and fire in “Fireside” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2608677/, and the dark quality of “Nightmare” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/3016220/, but I think I’m going to have to go with “Powerhouse” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2888462/ because I hadn’t drawn my own character in quite a while and thought it was real difficult, I was real pleased with how the pose, the anatomy, and the lighting all came out.
4: Are there any pictures that you are NOT particularly proud of? And if so, why?
Earlier ones, yeah. If you look at pictures like “Monster Red Bull Ballz” http://www.furaffinity.net/full/437872/ and “Wrestling” http://www.furaffinity.net/view/409678/ you can I didn’t do a very good job selecting everything to be colored and as a result, there are places that look outlined in white or just specks of white.
5: What aspect of your art would you like to improve, and why?
I’m always trying to improve anatomy, try new poses, and recently I’ve been more adventurous about lighting, but I’d really like to have the characters blend in more with their environments (like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2203311/) instead of looking pasted on like a sticker (like this: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/2501365/). That means I’ll have to draw more of my backgrounds instead of finding a picture on Google Images and putting a filter on it.
6: What do you HATE seeing in art? In terms of technical skill, not subject matter.
Coloring that looks like it was done in Microsoft Paint: real pixelated lines, bright colors, no attempt at shading, highlights, or realism. I’m not naming any names, though.
7: Tag another artist! You have to, because this is an artist-related meme.
bioxz23 I tag you for everything, Bioxz! But I also choose you,
lightningtiger and you,
atlas21!
To those with commissions, I am working on them. Sorry for the delay. I’m adding the finishing touches to a really big project.

Action Figure Meme!!
General | Posted 16 years agoI’M GONNA START A MEME!!
I’ve been thinking of something original to do for the holiday season and thought to myself if I could get a bunch of other people in on it, I could create a meme!
Instructions:
Draw up an action figure for your character, either in the package or out of it.
Make sure the packaging tells us all about his or her special abilities. Please note you don’t have to create an “action-oriented” action figure, they can be as lazy as you like.
Include some objects for your character. These could range from weapons to a change of clothes to a six pack of beer.
I guess you don’t have to do an action-figure. You could do a plushie or a pillow if you really wanted.
POST YOUR PICTURE ON CHRISTMAS MORNING!
Apologies to celebrators of Chanukah, Kwanzaa, or Eid.

Furry Meme (I always used to pronounce it "mee mee")
General | Posted 16 years ago*Are you a furry?
I suppose so, but I don’t think I was an animal in another life or I am more of an animal than a human. Frankly there are some animals that really annoy me.
*If you have a Spouse/SO - Is he/she a furry too?
No relationship yet. I can’t afford one. : (
*How long have you been in the community?
Since late high school
*How did you find furry?
I’m not sure. As a kid, I always loved The Lion King and Tony the Tiger (big ripped anthro tiger XD). I remember stumbling onto MuscleWolf, NuDog, and Icewolf’s art and it went downhill from there. This is all your fault guys!
*What's your reason for furry (what interested you to get into the community)?
There is the porn aspect, but I also love to draw and want to improve my skills.
*What's Furry to you?
Someone with a bizarre love of animals with human characteristics. Either that or college football mascots and Disney.
*If someone found out you're a furry and asked you about it how would you respond?
Fur-what? Furries doing...huh??? *terrified grin*
*What are your favorite aspects of our community?
There are a lot of very nice (crazy) people and some pretty good art.
*Do you use any furry terms? (i.e. yiff, paws, murr?)
Can’t say I do.
*What do you wish furry was NOT associated with?
Beastiality, also plushie fetishes and bad hygiene
*How strongly do you feel about someone bashing the community as a whole?
I bash the community occasionally, but what really annoys me is people who take down all their art and say their going to leave but end up coming back in a week. Or people who cry about how everyone is mean to them and their art. Or people who constantly repost old drawings or post other people’s work as their own. I’m onto you!!
*How strongly do you feel about anyone bashing you yourself for your interest based on the media's aspect of what furry is?
I’ve never had that happen to me.
*We all know furries have a lot of sexual aspects in this fandom, What's your opinion on it?
Everyone has some weird fetishes. I think bondage and the schoolgirl fetishes are stranger than furry, but I wish people would understand the whole community is not all about sex. That means a lot coming from someone who draws dicks bigger than people’s legs.
PERSONAL
*What is/are your fursona(s)?
Just one: Jaroq, a freakishly well-hung, musclebound tiger. He actually resembles the real me in no way, shape, or form.
*Do you have any fetishes that pertain to the fandom?
There’s a big muscle community on FA.
*If you could magically morph into your fursona would you?
Oh hell yes. I’m pretty insecure about my skinny body, so my character is a form of wish-fulfillment for me. I kind of project my desires onto him.
*Do you believe you have a spirit animal?
Errrr....nnnnoooo.
*What other fanbases/groups are you a part of?
Not a part of any groups.
*Anthro/Feral, Therian or Kemonomimi (Not a furry, just a human with animal ears and a tail)?
Huh??
*Are you a fursuiter? If yes, how many do you own? If No, do you ever plan on being a suiter?
No, but I think it’d be fun to try for a day.
*How many of your friends are furry?
If you mean real life then no. Well, a few of my friends love animals, draw animals all the time (realistic and cartoonish), but I’m not sure they’re technically furries.
*How many pets do you own, if any?
One guinea pig named Waffles. ^_^
*Aside from furry what other interests do you have?
I read a lot, write a lot (I really need to get some writing online), I love travelling and photography, roller coasters, skiing, painting, and movies
*Are you confident enough in yourself to say that you're a fur, no matter what the media says?
Ask me when I’m drunk.
MEET-UPS
*Do you attend any cons? If no, would you attend any cons? If yes, which cons have you been to?
I’d like to but I can’t afford any as of now. Maybe in the near future.
*Do you go to local meetups(bowling, public outings...etc)?
Only once in another state.
*Have you ever attended a furry party? If no, would you attend one?
Not yet but I would love to try one.
ONLINE
*Have you ever met up with a fur you talked to online?
Twice. There are a lot of people online I’d like to meet though.
*What furry websites do you attend?
Pretty much just FA
*What non furry websites do you frequent?
DeviantArt, Facebook, That Guy With the Glasses, porn sites XD
*Has the fandom done anything for you that you're thankful for? Has it taught you anything or brought you anything you treasure greatly?
I’ve made some friends and feel a lot more confident about my artwork. Also, I’ve learned a few drawing and Photoshop tricks.
It is so cold here. A horrible ice storm came in and the roads have been covered for days. I'd love it to snow, but it's just been ice and wind here. D: I've been working the pizza job and may be getting a raise soon since the manager likes me, and an old employer at an arts supply store is going to give me some seasonal hours for the holiday rush.
Also, I'm doing my first character reference sheet for Jaroq!

Gimme Some Truth
General | Posted 16 years agoEIGHT TRUTHS MEME
1. I love cooking. I sometimes rip recipes out of magazines at the doctor's office to try them at home. I just hate cleaning up.
2. I've never broken or sprained a bone in my body (though I may have cracked a rib slightly on a skiing trip). However, I did have a pencil shoved in my ear until it burst my eardrum when I was five or six.
3. A great aunt wanted to name me "Gaylord."
4. Because I'm a Creative Writing major, I get really anal about spelling and grammar errors (your vs. you're, good vs well, I even type out "okay" in IMs).
5. I've travelled all over the country. I was born in California (west), went to Alaska (north), then Florida (south), on to New York (east), and now I'm in Colorado (center).
6. For a few years I had this compulsion to steal from stores in the mall. I once snuck a Hot Topic t-shirt out in a cleaned out Taco Bell drink. I don't do that kind of thing anymore, though. I once got thrown out of the mall for running up the down escalator and finding a mall cop at the top of the stairs.
7. I've only been to one rock concert in my life, but it was worth it.
8. After watching the "Rejected Cartoons," I made a gigantic spoon out of cardboard ("Ma spoon's too big!") and had everyone at my college. Some drunken frat boys stole it, we got in a huge fist fight, then my roommate threw it out not knowing it was mine.
Lionor, Neverkilled, and Happy Tiger: your pictures are inked, I just have to find a scanner.

1- For each of the first 14 people who comment here I will put their avatar and three pics I like from their gallery on the list. Please do this only if you have original work done by yourself in your gallery. If your gallery is simply gifts from other people, I will skip you.
2- If I feature you, you'll have to do the same in your journal, putting me on the first place, completing this way the list with 15 people.
The idea of this is not to get a free feature, it is to spread art around for everyone!!!
By the way, I just got the Adobe programs installed and purchased a mouse, so expect new art from me shortly.

Job Hunting is More Depressing than Kitten / Puppy Coleslaw
General | Posted 16 years agoIt really is...
Now that I've graduated from college with two incredibly useless degrees (Creative Writing and Studio Art), I can *shudder* get a real job. I'd really like to be an editor for a publishing house but the few companies that even bother to return my inquiry letters say they're on a hiring freeze. Local businesses aren't much better: I failed to get a job at the supermarket, library, restaurants, even my old job at the framing store wouldn't take me back. It truly is a great time to be graduating.
My Dad is really getting on my case, too. He assumes that since I haven't been called about any interviews, I'm not looking hard enough. He keeps rewriting my resume and cover letters. My fat old neighbor with a bad comb-over, a Hawaiian t-shirt, an ever present glass of wine, and like 5 businesses never ceases to remind me how he was the manager of his own business at my age. It's real frustrating but it helps to know that there are tens of thousands of other grads going through the same problems so the universe is not picking on me alone. None of my friends seem to have jobs. Half of them are going to grad school not really to get a degree but to just wait out the economic slump. In the meantime, I've been helping my parents with yard work X(
Some good news: the relatives have been very generous with their wallets and I've been able to obtain my first computer: a 15" MacBook Pro. My college struck a deal with Adobe, so I was able to get the Design Suite, about $1,700 worth of software for about $300. However, I still don't have a scanner so while I have several new works sketched and inked, they won't be online for a while. For those people I have promised art: thanks for your patience; please wait a little longer.
Now that I have my own computer, I've downloaded Second Life. I go by the name "Jaroq Firecaster" there. I've already purchased one of Icewolf's spectacular muscle bods and I'm struggling to color it. Does anybody have some good tiger stripe textures? Also, I somehow deleted the eyes and can't get them back. O_o My character is pretty sorry looking right now but I'm still very new to the program.
I make no guarantees that I'll constantly be on SL or IM, though. I'm busy job hunting and I do believe it or not have a life in the real world.
Along with a computer, I have also obtained a guinea pig named Waffles XD. I'm crazy for guinea pigs. They're incredibly stupid but they're so funny and adorable. I love their little week-weeking noises and the way they move. A girl at my mother's work was looking to get rid of one so I adopted the little guy. He's dark brown with the ruffled "rosette" fur. He's also extremely timid; I've only been able to pet him a few times. He'll come around eventually.
FUTURE PROJECTS:
1. "How to Draw" Jaroq
2. Jaroq action figure
3. a group shot of my favorite cats from cartoons and TV
P.S. Did I mention it rained during my graduation?
Talk to you all later,

D-Day \ B-Day \ G-Day
General | Posted 16 years agoJune 6, 1945 – British and American forces deploy over 160,000 troops by air and by sea on the Normandy coastline of France. In the largest invasion in military history, the Allies face funneled mortars, artillery, and machine guns as they struggle to liberate the beach from the Nazi occupiers. On Omaha Beach alone, 5,000 Americans are killed and countless others wounded. It is a scene of bloodshed and chaos; bullets, shrapnel, and pieces of men flying through the air. Grown men crying out for their mothers as their fellow soldiers are killed before their eyes.
BUT JUNE 6 IS ALSO MY BIRTHDAY!!
And in a curious turn of events, THE DAY I GRADUATE FROM COLLEGE. I’ll have two equally worthless degrees in Creative Writing and Studio Art (because I decided to pursue something I am passionate about rather than something that will actually earn me money) and will afterwards be attending the University of Mom and Dad’s Basement. There is no decent curriculum, but room and board are free.
I have a mixture of rapture and fear surrounding this event. This little town is boring as hell and I want to get out and leave my mark on the world, but then I’m terrified of the real world. I kind of like having all my friends around bitching about classes, knowing where my next meal is coming from, and not having to don a suit and tie. The art market and publishing industry are pretty stagnant now. I’ve sent out several letters of inquiry but the only ones that respond tell me that they’re not hiring. What if I fall flat on my face or end up in a cubicle for thirty years with a job I hate? I had enough anxiety toward my future before the economy tanked!
Well, it helps to think that tens of thousands of other grads will be facing similar dilemmas.
Congrats to all the other graduates out there and to those who are waiting out the economy by taking shelter at grad schools, you are all cowards!! Actually, not really…
In other news, I may be getting a laptop for my birthday/graduation so I won’t have to rely on a computer lap or be weary of my parents looking over my shoulder. I could get a Second Life account.
At the rate I’m going, I don’t know when I’ll ever open up commissions.

I love you, California.
7.) Month of your birth?
June -
1. The sixth month.
2. In Japan, an early publication featuring male/male stories in the tanbi style. People used to refer to the category of male/male relationships targeted at the female audience as June, but since that was a trade name for a magazine, that meaning of the term has fallen into disuse. The category has evolved and changed so much and the types of stories so varied that the entire category is now called BL by the industry and most fans. In some places, including Comiket, original stories are still called 'sousaku (original) June'.
1. My birthday is in June.
2. June is a thing of the past...
8.) Last person you talked to?
lunch lady - Lunch ladies are those females or males who graduate from Lunch Lady Academy (LLA) and frequently uses lunch lady crossing, similar to deer crossing. They're commonly in a bad mood, and to them you MUST NEVER SAY these words, "Oh no, take it back," or the unspeakable will occur. They can fly and serve, while wearing "lunch vest." You may use this to describe one who is being shitty. They can also be supernatural beings similar to vampires and werewolves.
Dude, could you be anymore of a lunch lady, right now???
I said to that freaking lunch lady, "OH NO, TAKE IT BACK!" and she launched herself over the counter and did the unspeakable.
9.) One of your nicknames?
You - The cause of all the worlds problems.
You killed Jesus, spread the plague, shot JFK, and made Britney Spears popular. Thanks a lot....dick.
