I apologize for once again missing Furcon, but the dealer's den announcement has gotten to be so sporadic and I always seem to miss it. I guess it is just not meant to be.

I will be at Rainfurrest again this year though. It's nice to have a convention close to home.

I never saw the date for the dealer's den submissions, so I got my application in too late. I am on the waiting list, but I have another convention on the same weekend, so I guess I will begin making plans to attend that one instead. I hope it goes well and I'll make an effort to attend next year. I'm sure I won't be missed much with all the talent that attends.

These days, the internet has made it far too easy to find fantastic works of art and repost them anywhere with hardly a thought. In the past I would occasionally trawl Cafepress or Zazzle for people selling famous fantasy artists' work, like Boris or Olivia and report them. It was unconscionable to me that people thought they could profit off of someone else's creativity.

I do see a lot of people reposting work that is not theirs. While I completely understand the desire to show your FB friends these wonderful little gems, please realize that ... you are still stealing. You may not be trying to earn money off of the art and your motives may be completely innocent, but oft times people assume you are posting art that you created. FB does ask you if you have the right to post it, so you are at the very least perpetrating a lie when you post a picture that isn't yours.

I've often seen a piece of steampunk art posted in a group somewhere and thought, "Nice. I wonder who did that?" but the person who was so impressed with the piece that they felt the need to post it didn't bother to see who did it. Seriously?

As an artist, I realize that by putting something on the internet, I run the risk of having it copied. I know it's nearly unavoidable. So, how about you do me a favor? IF you feel the overwhelming compulsion to repost my work somewhere, you give me credit? Tag it with my name. Maybe put a link to my website or the site you got it from. If you like the work enough to copy it, take the time to credit it at the very least. We really do appreciate that you like it and promote it, just give us some credit?

About a week until I leave for Furcon. I submitted my art for a badge this year and got accepted! Also, I am hosting a pin trade and meetup on Saturday afternoon, so if you collect pins, make sure you come to the meetup! It should be great! I have a table again. I have had a bad head cold, so not much new this year, unfortunately. Although I will have my new art book. Drop by and say "Hi!".

It's only a few weeks until Rainfurrest. I have not been able to concentrate my energies fully on the projects that I had hope to finish like the steampunk coloring book. I do have a new book of art coming out through Jarlidium Press though, and that will debut at Rainfurrest. Yay! I will be doing sketches at the con so drop by and get a commission. It's too late to fix all the art and reorder so I'll have a little less than I was hoping for, but there will still be lots of good stuff. And of course I'll be taking sketch commissions. So, about two weeks ago, I came home from a nice quiet five day get away and a day later was awoken by my downstairs neighbor because her kitchen was flooding. It was originating upstairs from above me. We got the broken water line shut off, but an awful lot of water came in anyway. I had to move all my stuff into the bedroom so they could move in huge dryers. Later they drilled holes in the walls and ceiling. All of this happened during a heatwave and the condo was reaching 100 degrees during the day. yuck! Luckily the hotel room will be mostly covered by the insurance. It was a nightmare. I'm only just now back home but I'm very behind on my work. I've got a table at Innocent Seraphim this weekend, and I'm giving two talks about steampunk. I really wanted to be more prepared. Ah well. Life happens. Hopefully I'll have new art in time for Rainfurrest.

Whew! Got all my data back! It was expensive, and the husband is working on a better back up system. I'm working on a few pieces that were half done when I lost access. Unfortunately I took a temp job, so I have less time to work on art.

My external storage drive has had a melt down. I can't access it and stupidly it has ALL my art and the pieces I've been working on. I am devastated. I can't get it in to be looked at until Monday and I've already been with out it for three days. So not happy.

Think good thoughts about data retrieval?
