The Dance of Drawing
Posted 10 years agoDrawing for me is like a dance. I think I'm taking steps forward to improving and that my art is getting "good" in my mind only to find that I'm pushed back by lack of interest and not having my art accepted on certain group sites. It's very frustrating when my best is not good enough and even worse that there's no way to move beyond my best than to practice.
I've been drawing for over four years, but for some reason the fruits of my labor, although showing signs of progress, aren't enough to make an impact on the community as a whole. Maybe I'm hanging too much hope that my characters are interesting enough to get attention from this fandom. Maybe I spoiled things by posting what I did and now I'm known as what I was rather than the potential of what I will become.
Sometimes i just don't know what the formula is to create a great memorable character like the many artists I've watched and favorited their art. It seems things translate well with text when role playing or writing, but I find it hard to get the concept in my mind out on paper as a drawing.
Just don't where to go next or what to fix.

Another Addiction...
Posted 10 years agoHello all!
I forgot to mention something that happened during Furpocalypse. There is a vendor selling furry related books and comics, which I decided to check out. Well wouldn't you know there in the pile was a certain comic series called Sabrina Online. Yes, that Sabrina Online. Hey, I never said i was the most with it member of the Furry Fandom! There's lots that I have yet to explore.
So anyway, after reading the comics and having a fortunate meeting with Max Blackrabbit (yes, the one that created Zig Zag), I can now say I'm hooked on yet another comic series. It's bad enough I'm interested in Lackadaisy, Phoebe and her Unicorn and The Whiteboard, but now I got this!
For your consequence Max Blackrabbit and Eric Schwartz (and my thanks), expect a Sabrina and maybe a Zig Zag fan art in the future!

Why draw Pony Art?
Posted 10 years agoHello All, Art Vulpine here!
So if you have visited my site (and its assumed you do if you're reading this) you've probably seen a ton of My Little Pony art, So why am I doing so much? Well a couple of reasons:
1)I love the show and the community that creates such wonderful drawings, stories, music, animations, and cosplay.
2) I consider pony art to be tied to furry sites. At the least MLP can be considered fan art like Disney or Pokemon for the furry fandom.
3) It's something I'm better drawing than furry art right now. I still love furry art and I'm still trying to draw my characters, but in the meantime I'm drawing ponies. Does this mean that I have drawing ponies perfectly? Good heavens no! I know that like my furry art my pony art needs to evolve and it has since I started in 2012.
So I hope that you all like my pony art as I continue to contribute to both furries and fans of My Little Pony.

Illusions Versus Reality
Posted 10 years agoEver have a moment when you make a sketch and think it is ok but after doing all the line work and coloring you realize that the initial picture wasn't all that good? Why is it that I'm not seeing that when I first look at? Am I so not visually inclined that I don't see my own mistakes in my drawing until I submit them?
News or lack thereof
Posted 10 years agoHello all, Art Vulpine here!
I wanted to update my journal to explain what's going on with my life. Things are pretty much the same. I'm still drawing My Little Pony art and have dabbled in drawing fan art of other non-pony related characters.
So the big question, what about furry art?
Well I'm still practicing that, but I don't want to just upload things here that aren't showing progress. I'm basically trying to wipe away the memories of my old furry art attempts and start fresh. This includes eliminating any bad habits that I picked up. Through study and practice and seeing how others draw, I will return with better art. Instead of drawing a host of characters, I'll be focusing on only a few that I will work on to improve before expanding my horizons.
So I want to close this by thanking those who have favorited, commented, or Watched my art and site. As I said before, it is great to draw, but it is even sweeter to know that others are interested in how and what I draw.
Until next time, keep imagining!

Furpocalypse results.
Posted 11 years agoHello furries, Art Vulpine Here!
Well I just got back yesterday from Furpocalypse in Connecticut. For those unfamiliar, Furpocalypse is a new convention built after Furfright shut down in 2013. I admit I was a little nervous how this con would run, but having seen it I was very pleased. The directors and con chairs were very nice and welcoming. You know, most conventions are alike. They have panels, music, dances, vendors and cosplay/ fursuiting. But I like Furpocalypse at how I feel there, like I'm part of something. Sadly in my area there aren't too many furries to interact with and so my bonding with the community has to happen here. True, furries can have drama but let's not let this be a deterrent to getting to know others.
So what else did I do there? Well I hung out with some long time furry friends, played Red Dragon Inn and Arkham Horror, drew a few art sketches that I'll add here soon, got commissions from my favorite artists, and got some paws and a furry hood with ears for my next big project.
So congrats to the chairman, directors, volunteers, staff, vendors, and of course fellow furries for making it a wonderful experience. Hope to see you all and more next year!

RIP Robin Williams
Posted 11 years agoIt is a sad day in the world with the passing of Robin Williams. He is by far one of my favorite actors known for his wit and energy in his comedies and serious roles. Now the world has grown darker a little with his absence.
Merry Christmas!

I want to wish you all a wonderful Christmas season and a Happy New Year! Also, thanks for visiting my site and favoriting my art or Watching here. Although art is my passion, I like sharing it with others as well.

RIP FurFright
Posted 12 years agoHello all, Art Vulpine hare.
Today is a dark day being a furry, maybe even for the fandom as a whole. Today it was announced that this past Furfright would be its last. Here is the message from FurFright's Facebook page:
It is with a heavy heart that we must inform everyone of the following:
We had every intention of keeping FurFright going for years to come. At this year’s Closing Ceremonies we dispelled unfounded rumors and told you we'd be back in 2014 and beyond. That was always our intent. Since that time the Con Chairs have experienced a devastating turn of events in their personal/family life, making it impossible for the convention to continue. All our time, energy, and resources need to be spent healing and coping with the challenges we face. So due to circumstances beyond our control, FurFright has come to an end. 2013 was our final year.
It's impossible to find the words to sum up 11 years of this labor of love. All we can say is "Thank You". Your friendship, generosity, and support created this con and made it happen year after year. Whether you were staff or an attendee, when you walked through the doors of FurFright you were always among friends.
In addition to our attendee friends, boundless credit goes to our Staff. They used their hard-earned money and vacation time to travel to a hotel where they spent 15 hours (or more) a day working so we could all have a good time. We are a band of brothers and sisters, and I can't think of a finer group of people to work beside. You will always have our love and gratitude.
The final person to recognize and thank is our Con Chair K'gra Leopard. The con would never have begun or continued without her. The work she did behind the scenes and in the Dealers' Dungeon was staggering. She did more than anyone to make FurFright happen, and the success of our event is a testament to her dedication and skill.
There are a lot of conventions out there, and we know you'll all move on to other events and have a great time. We're not naive enough to think FurFright has changed the community, or will be remembered or missed. The only thing that remains is knowing in our hearts we started this con for the right reasons. It was to bring our friends together and make them happy. It was to help animals and people in need. It was to give something back to a community that has given us a place we belong. There was more sweat, tears, and sleepless nights put into FurFright than anyone will ever know. There were times it hurt, and times it took a toll on our health and personal lives. But we kept it going as long as we could. For you.
If just one person remembers FurFright with fondness. If it helped just one person smile and know they were loved and belonged. If it helped save or honor just one War Dog and the Soldiers they protect. If it helped just one abandoned animal find a loving home. If it helped just one child in a hospital bed feel a little less sad or frightened. If just one person found their soulmate at this con, and now has someone to grow old with...
...it was worth it.
Peace, love, and happiness to you, dear friends.
FurFright Board of Directors
Furfright was my first ever furry convention that I went to back in 2011. At the time I was looking for one to go to, a nice small con that would be my first experience. On the advice of my friend Frunt, who was on the staff of FurFright, he asked me to go there. It was an amazing experience and one that made me decide to stay in the fandom and even help encourage my drawing. There I met many wonderful furries that I spoke with. Last event in October 2013 I decided to give back for my third time there by volunteering. Little did I know that on Monday when packing things up that it would be for the last time.
I'm not sure why the con decided to close, but one thing is for certain: I will miss it. Will I find another con to go to? Maybe. Still it was a great time being there for three wonderful years. So I want to thank the con chairs and staff for the awesome time I had. Maybe I'll see you at another con at another time.

Big Apple Ponycon
Posted 12 years agoHello, Art Vulpine here!
I'll be heading to Big Apple Ponycon in Brooklyn, NY with three of my friends from March 23-24.
It's really the only pony convention close to me and I can stay with my friends.
So, I'll post a con report afterwards, so stay tuned!

Turn Ons and Turn Offs
Posted 13 years agoIn a recent journal I responded to, the poster said that he did not like My Little Pony. He further did not like the fact that some were seemingly forcing him to like it.
When you like something, anything, don't expect others to. Also you can tell someone about it, but don't be the Crusader of a particular fandom and try to convert them.
I create MLP and furry art because I like it, not to say "You must become one of us!"
Having said this, consider my turn ons and turn offs:
Turn Ons: furries, MLP, movies, music, fantasy media (books, art, movies, etc.), writing, certain TV shows (Once Upon a Time, The Twilight Zone, etc.)
Turn Offs: Jersey Shore, most reality series, the Twilight series, and Pokemon

Eep! I've been tagged!
Posted 13 years agoLooks like it was only a matter of time before this purple fox got tagged.
This time it was by: http://www.furaffinity.net/user/phantomzfox/
So Here it goes!
Questions to people I tag
1. what got you in to the furry fandom?
As a young kit, I was intetested in cartoons like Mickey Mouse, Looney Tunes, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, etc. I then began to search for fantasy art when I was older and stumbled on art that I learned was part of the furry fandom. The rest is history.
2. what made you choose your fursona?
Well, I have two fuursonas actually. My main one, Art Vulpine, I chose because I like foxes and the color purple. I wanted a character who paid homage to all things cartoony. My other one is going to appear soon, but i can tell you he's a unicorn with a rather interesting style.
3. what is your favorite drink alcoholic?
Vodka and cranberry juice.
4. what is your favorite drink nonalcoholic?
Hot chocolate or hot tea
5. do you have any pets?
Nope.
