General | Posted 9 years agoYou guys, I just recounted the total in my paypal transfers and... I think? We did it? I think we just earned my rent.
I'm still in shock. I was a nervous wreck at the beginning of this weekend. I thought there was no way I'd be able to make the money in time, but I'd rather try than just give up. So many kind, considerate people came to my streams and supported me, both because they wanted to help and because they liked my art. And all weekend I was asked if I needed a break, or if I'd slept. I was constantly reminded that my health was as important to my commissioners as their art. The stream chat was always busy with people talking and I never once felt the loneliness I sometimes do when working.
I feel honestly blessed to have your support for me and my art. October is going to be a tough month too, but I'll have more than two days to earn my bills. Thank you to everyone who showed up! I'll be working extra hard to get your art finished ASAP!

Birthday + Full Time Work!
General | Posted 9 years agoEyy guys! With the month settling down and the school semester starting, I'm officially returning to full time work. I'm only taking one class this semester, so the other days of the week will be used for commissions and, if I can get join.me to work smoothly, digital art streams! I unfortunately still cannot begin my traditional art streams again yet, as I'm still stuck to my brother's laptop. Neither my PC or laptop are fixed or in working condition, so I'll be restricted to this set up for an indeterminate amount of time. Luckily I can scan things in just fine, and we'll see about digital art soon.
My birthday was earlier this moth, August 15th, and I have to say... It wasn't a bad one at all! I turned 26, which is still surreal as I never felt older than 20. I was able to see a good deal of my closest friends throughout this month, who all made an effort to spend time with me, even if they had no money. Animefest in Dallas happened over my birthday, which... eh. Over the years I've come to realize I don't really enjoy going to a convention on my birthday. So I didn't. But two days before, I did drive to Dallas to see one friend who was down for the con, and we literally just chilled in the hotel room and talked shit and spent hours on makeup. She let me do hers, I took forever on mine, and then we took a million pictures. That was it. That was the day. It was fucking fantastic, as I rarely get to do my cosplay makeup full out now that I'm almost always selling behind a table at cons.
On my actual birthday, we got rained out on zoo plans, but my roommate/best friend and another sweet friend from Way The Fuck Up North and I went to a pretty sweet aquarium about 45 minutes away. Took another million photos. Filled up my phone memory entirely lol. They bought me lunch and I got to spaz out over fish and it was really fuckin nice because I got to just do my thing with no judgement or feeling like I was forcing them along. Fish are really kind of a "me" thing, I guess, and I'm usually very sensitive to others seeming bored or impatient to "get it over with" when they're with me. Everyone seemed to enjoy themselves and that meant a lot.
About a week later, another friend came down from out of state and treated me to a trip to The Dallas World Aquarium, and HOLY SHIT YOU GUYS. It's not so much an aquarium, and not so much a zoo... But kind of like a multi layered ecosystem? The number of plants and trees in that place was mind blowing. You got to see every part in layers: The birds up in the trees, the mammals and reptiles on the ground, the fish on the surface of the waters and in separate tanks, and finally the fish underneath ALL that. You saw every exhibit from two or three angles. The shark tunnel was a fucking spiritual experience. We stayed until close, so just before close they'd begun feeding all the animals and the sharks went crazy. The waters were so dark, and then suddenly a HUGE sawtooth shark would come out of nowhere. I had to delete a ton of photos on my phone just to make room for a million more. I often feel a bit rushed through zoos, and I feel guilty meandering or staring at one exhibit too long. This friend is a photographer, though, so I got to take my damned time and even go back and revisit exhibits twice. Afterwards she bought me my first In-N-Out burger, which was pretty damn delicious actually?
I also got a free meal one day this month when my parents took my brother out for his birthday (his is 4 days after mine), and I'd gotten a home cooked one from my mom on my own. I mean I even got a cake with candles on it. I can't remember the last time I had candles on a cake. I feel so spoiled.
The thing is, my birthday is a very personal day to me. It's a bit selfish, but I've always wanted my friends to pay attention to me and make an effort to show me they care on that day. This doesn't mean they have to go and buy me lots of shit, but just making an effort to see me in person or call me or tell me they love me means a lot. And I get that people have lives and are busy. But so many of my friends and family went so far out of their way to make me feel special and included this year. I'm so damned blessed, you guys. Depression and anxiety might try to tell me otherwise, but I'm so damned blessed. I haven't felt this loved around my birthday since I was 18.

Luckily, my wonderful brother loaned me his laptop to get by while he gets everything sorted out. That being said, I'm in a bit of a panic because rent is due and I have no money. Long story, bad luck.
Be expecting an emergency commission post soon. Very soon. It's all going to be on pay what you want scales, and they will all be experimental style sketches done in my sketchbook to keep them very very fast, so I can do them inbetween other owed work. They'd look a lil something like this, but an actual post with examples in coming to my gallery.

My saint of a brother is working to get me a temporary build set up so that I can get back to work and show y'all some of the cool shit I did for a Advanced Drawing this semester, but until then I'm stuck to just my phone and that makes my FA interactions a bit limited.

Nasty People Can Make You Sick

So, last Saturday, I get a call from my brother in the morning asking for help packing his ex girlfriend's shit. Apparently, she's already moved out and refuses to pay for utilities because "her shit isn't turning lights on and off." That's all well and good, but her shit IS keeping the next roomate from moving in and helping my brother actually pay bills.
So I head over, because shit, I can't ignore family in need. And then I discovered why he hadn't had any friends over since she'd moved in.
The place was fucking disgusting. Like, "Hoarders: Junior Edition" disgusting. And I've known my brother all my life, I know what level of disorganized he keeps his shit in: not. fucking. this. I'll spare you the gritty details. But this bitch fucked my brother over, and when confronted on it, basically tried to pass the blame to him and minimize her responsibility.
Not to mention I watched her try to get him arrested for assault in front of me. Disgusting.
Anyways, it took us three. Whole. Days. of hardcore cleaning. To get this place in even livable condition again. And I got sick as fuck from it. I've been sick an entire week because she didn't have any basic fucking respect or dignity for the state of the place she was living in.
And don't even get me started on her fucking temper tantrums, or the way she thought she could just demand to use his washer and dryer. Mmmmmbitch? With WHAT utilities? Ur shit don't turn lights on and off remember?
STILL SALTY and still sick. Hope my bro doesn't get dealt such shitty cards next time.

Stove/Oven, Refrigerator, Couldn't get Internet, Bathtub leak, Microwave Died, Circuit blew (PC and ect + a kitchen outlet??), Laptop broke again, A/C is????? either not working or just shitty maybe
In good news most everything is fixed, and My PC is fully functioning and good to go.
In bad news I'm behind AF and shit keeps breaking every day.
Cross allll your fingers and knock on wood for me for one fucking weekend where nothing is broken and I don't have an Exam on Monday (seriously? It's february)

General | Posted 10 years agoOhhh my god. The past few weeks have been insane.
After much white-knuckling, we got the apartment, I believe that's where I disappeared.
I painted for FIVE DAYS STRAIGHT. Apparently, we bought the shittiest wall paint available to the masses. It was awful. The living room took 2 people 3 days, and I had to have more of one color mixed for my bedroom and it did not even remotely match. So my bedroom is in 3 different colors and my tired ass is just rolling with it.
Got my few pieces of furniture moved in nearly a full week before my roomie could get in from Florida, and holy hell her family put her through SHIT about the move and her ex roomates were fucking dickholes to her.
She gets here at FOUR AM with her fiance and they just start unloading the truck. Guys. Guys they have so much stuff. Most of it was in storage. Like I almost could have brought jack shit and we'd still been able to furnish this entire apartment. I'm both exhilirated bc this is doing great for first apartment, but also, holy crap we don't have room for all of this stuff??? We're working it out and doing some furniture tetris atm.
EVERY single day has been some big thing that needed done. I almost missed the first day of class and only wound up there by sort of accident. I mean it's been a whirlwind.
And we only just got internet about 2 hours ago. Apparently the last tenants weren't paying their bills, and we had to jump through about a million hoops to prove we weren't them. It was bullshit and took forever bc they needed a fuck ton of documents, and I could only send them on my phone, which had NO data left for the month...
Like... You want me to e-mail you 15 pages in entirety... I have no internet, see, that's why I'm here... Does nobody see the problem.
Anyway, I'm behind on homework and commissions and shit and nothing is slowing down of course. My plan of action is to take the rest of today as easy as possible (I still have to relocate one fish from the old house to the new apartment and prepare for a dining table to come in and a list of household chores) and then start kicking ass brght and early Tomorrow.
HOPEFULLY things just work like they're supposed to this week!

Like I almost could have brought jack shit and we'd still been able to furnish this entire apartment. I'm both exhilirated bc this is doing great for first apartment, but also, holy crap we don't have room for all of this stuff??? We're working it out and doing some furniture tetris atm.
EVERY single day has been some big thing that needed done. I almost missed the first day of class and only wound up there by sort of accident. I mean it's been a whirlwind.
And we only just got internet about 2 hours ago. Apparently the last tenants weren't paying their bills, and we had to jump through about a million hoops to prove we weren't them. It was bullshit and took forever bc they needed a fuck ton of documents, and I could only send them on my phone, which had NO data left for the month...
Like... You want me to e-mail you 15 pages in entirety... I have no internet, see, that's why I'm here... Does nobody see the problem.
Anyway, I'm behind on homework and commissions and shit and nothing is slowing down of course. My plan of action is to take the rest of today as easy as possible (I still have to relocate one fish from the old house to the new apartment and prepare for a dining table to come in and a list of household chores) and then start kicking ass brght and early Tomorrow.
HOPEFULLY things just work like they're supposed to this week!
Work Schedule: 1/6-13/16
General | Posted 10 years agoIf you missed the news, WE GOT THE APARTMENT!! I'm so freakin excited! We also received AWESOME news that we qualified for a move-in incentive they're running right now and we're getting $500 off our second month of rent. This is amazing news!
Anyway, as for this week's work schedule, here are the deets. I get the keys on Friday, and I'll be painting the apartment (by myself it seems) on Saturday and Sunday. On Monday I plan to start moving in, hopefully get all the big stuff moved in so I'm just down to boxes. If that doesn't work I'm hoping I can get the big stuff moved by Wednesday at least, and I'm expecting my roomate to arrive from Florida the following Saturday.
That means I'm kind of in Packing Hell: Overdrive Edition for today and tomorrow. The computer is gonna be unplugged and readied for moving in a couple more days. While I'll try to continue working on commissions as I can, I may be unable to make any updates at all for the next several days. The sooner I can get moved in, though, the sooner I can get back on schedule, so once I get things relocated and get internet at the new place sorted out, I'll start posting again.

Post-Christmas Anxiety
General | Posted 10 years agoOhhh boy. Well, I submitted my dad's cosigner application, and I'm hoping we'll get the place. He has given me hell for three days straight about it and treated me like a child over it. If his constant grilling wasn't enough to send my anxiety levels through the roof, submitting the application sure was.
I wish this was the end of it. I wish it was just "Ok! You provided us w/the requested paperwork, so you get the place!" But after all this work and stress and getting the room mate to Texas and application fees and being bitched at and gaslighted by my dad for days on end, there's still no guarantee. It'll probably be tomorrow or a day or two after that before we hear back. And I have never been more anxious about anything in my entire life.
I am knot-in-the-gut, nauseous, in-and-out of dissociation, on the verge of crying, can't-focus sick with anxiety. It's not so much that I feel like they have reason to deny us, but that the emotional stakes here are high. If we don't get this place, my roomie will catch hell from her mom in the same way I'll catch hell all over again from my dad: They'll take it as "evidence" that we can't provide for ourselves and we'll get the "dramatic teenager" treatment.

LIFE UPDATE
The roomie and I put in our application for the apartment, and she even managed to possibly snag a job before she had to go back to Florida (she's moving quite a distance to be here). I feel pretty good about it, although I do have to go through the pain of getting my dad to cosign with us. I'm sure we won't get an answer until a few days after Christmas, though. Of course, even though I do feel really confident that we'll get the place, I'm, suuuuper nervous since this would be my first apartment and we have no rental history. Not gonna crack open the celebratory bottle of champagne until we sign the lease. Wish us luck! I'll post a couple pics of the place as soon as we have the keys!
In other news, I FINALLY have an appointment for a legitimate ADHD evaluation right at the turn of the year. Of course I'm nervous about that too, even though the guy doing the testing seems to think I really may have it --before having even done the tests. It's gonna be this super long official thing apparently. ~universities.~ If I got a diagnosis and was able to start medication though, I would probably cry. I have been waiting. So long.
I also PASSED ALL MY EXAMS! Whoo! I should have passed all the classes, too. Long sigh of relief postponed due to immediate (literally, the moment I left my last final) picking up the roomie from the bus stop and doing break-neck speed apartment hunting.
All paid ornament orders are complete and shipped! There are still ornaments left for orders, but they will NOT ship until after the turn of the year, if you want to get your hands on em still! I'm finishing up a couple more commissions that got washed away by the absolute chaos of finals-week-apartment-hunt-everything-is-happening-all-at-once hell, and will post ornament photos and commission scans soon!

Finals Week Update
General | Posted 10 years agoGood lord, this week (2 weeks? what is time) has been kicking my ass.
The good news is, 1/3 finals are complete, and this will be the last week of the semester. I should be passing all my classes despite Statistics giving me hell.
The literal minute my Final Crit for Life Drawing is over, I'm picking up my roommate from the bus terminal and we're going to be spending a week hunting/applying to apartments. It looks like we should have a few options to choose from, so hopefully it all plays out well. And then, once we have the apartment, we gotta move. She gets the short end of the stick--she's gonna be comin in from Florida with her belongings. I'm just moving across town.
All in between these things I am finalizing commissions and getting them in the mail like a madwoman.
This leads me to my next bit though: No non-stream commissions taken beyond this point will be completed before Christmas. My goal is to do two more streams this month amidst the chaos: one for small, last minute gifts you can buy your friends for cheap (may or may not be PWYW, but this stream will depend on our move date, possibly the 20th or later), and THE BIG CHRISTMAS FREEBIE STREAM! You can still pledge as low as $1 on my Patreon to get in on it, but it's an all-day shin dig currently tentatively scheduled for the 24th.

The important thing is, make sure these wishes are things you really, truly want.
