~~~ The Mysterious Boy ~~~

Surrounding the structure is a not-very dense woodlands, a large quiet lake, and what appears to be small wooden cabins forming a village on the other side of the water. Wherever she was, it clearly wasn't home. The dragon swoops around the lake, taking her on a "tour" of the local environment. The adrenaline of the flight makes Stormy completely disregard any fear she was previously holding. The thrill of flying around on a dragon!

Though the flight was probably only a quick few minutes, it felt like hours. Eventually it lands, allowing her to dismount at cabin a little ways outside the rest of the town. The cabin was quiet, surrounded by the natural woodland. It was simple, but looked well maintained for as basic as it was. Wooden cabin with a stone chimney. A single room with four walls and a roof. The door was left open with the glow of a fire emitting from inside. Though Stormy knew better than to talk to strangers, everything that had been going on since she woke up was breaking all the rules she'd once known. She peeks inside to see if there's anyone around and try to understand why the dragon brought her here.

Within the wooden walls is a quaint living area. A bed, a table, a small nook for food storage & preparation, and a stone fireplace... with no fire burning. But where was the glow coming from? Stormy would wonder, only for her questions to be answered as her gaze continued to another corner of the room. There was a boy, roughly her age, sitting in the corner with his hand enveloped in a swirling light, all leading toward a burning orb, the size of a baseball, hovering just above his fingertips, in front of him is a violet book open to a page with an illustration of a similar fireball (see the book in the ref sheet).

Stormy reacts with as much shock as you could expect from a child witnessing real magic. Especially since Stormy is smart enough, and far enough ahead in her studies to understand that magic is never real. It's always just a slight-of-hand or a visual trick, right? Right?! Then how did he do that? She lets out an audible gasp, prompting a startled yelp from the boy. the light immediately extinguished.

"H-How did you do that? You had fire on your ha--" she starts to question only to be interrupted by the boy rushing over to shush her. He looks around nervously, as if making sure nobody had heard her.

In a hushed tone he responds "Sssh! My parents can't know!" Then after a brief pause while he looks her over. With her lack of social development in her upbringing, she has no idea how to react. She stays silent like a deer in headlights until the boy speaks again. "what's going on with your eyes? They're glowing!"

This snaps Stormy back to her senses enough. The memory of the moments before she passed out, with her eyes glowing so brilliantly in her reflection. Panic sets in as the adrenaline fades, and she realizes she's in the middle of nowhere, her parents are gone, her home is gone, everyone and everything she knows is gone, and she just went along with it from being swept up in the moment. The emotions and exhaustion hit her all at once. She collapses to her knees, sobbing, hyperventilating, and wanting to cry out for her parents, only restraining herself due to the knowledge they aren't around to hear anyways.

"N-no no! That's not what i meant! They're.. they're pretty! Yeah, pretty!" He was oblivious to what exactly she was going through, but at least he was trying. This is about as good as you could expect a young boy to do when a stranger girl starts sobbing at your feet. "M-maybe the book has some thing to fix them?" And before waiting for stormy to respond, he runs back over to his book to start flipping the pages.

Despite her overwhelming emotion, the promise of a book piques Stormy's interest enough for her to try to compose herself and try to come see it for herself.

The book (depicted above) had a strange feeling. Similar to that of her mirror. Beautiful, intricate, but designed in a way that made it clear it was out-of-place. Though the illustrations on the pages were highly detailed, she couldn't make out any of the words on the page, or even any of the letters used to make the words. She reaches out to touch the paper. Maybe with a closer look, she might be able to make sense of some of the diagrams at least, even if she was entirely unfamiliar with the written language.

As soon as her fingertip grazes the parchment, a white-hot sensation burns up her arm, instantly searing into into her entire nervous system. She reflexively pulls her hand away from the pain, but the tingling sensation lingers for several moments longer, similar to a limb that had fallen asleep. When the tingling finally fades, she realizes that she can make sense of the words on the page. Though the letters and the language are still unfamiliar to her, there is a sense of intuition. The same sorts of visualization she could produce when reading any English novel. Even while reading words she couldn't hope to understand, the meaning of the text itself rang clear in her head. Intricate descriptions of different spells and ways to cast them -- verbally, nonverbally, through enchantments, with delayed effect. This was as detailed as a textbook and still mostly over young Stormy's head. Even an avid reader like herself could barely piece together the nuances of advanced spellcasting when she didn't even think magic was real moments ago.

As she continued to read, she unconsciously mumbled aloud one of the incantations mindlessly as she tried to make her way through the text. There was a brief moment where the room seemed to get darker around her. The boy looked up at her in amazement. "Your eyes! They stopped! How did you know to do that?!"

The two would continue similar exchanges over the book. They would take turns reading from the pages and gawking at what happened. Over their time together he helped her understand where she was and what was going on...

~~ The Awakening ~~


It's unclear exactly how long time had passed between the collapse and when Stormy regained consciousness. Before she could even open her eyes, she noticed a warm and wet feeling across her face. Her memory was still fuzzy over what happened in the moments leading up to the collapse, though her first instinct was to assume that she fell and made herself bleed. She slowly braces herself, knowing that it's probably going to hurt to open her eyes or try to move after such a fall.

With a deep inhale, she finally opens her eyes. The first thing she notices is bright... sunlight? And she's not in her room? She reaches to her face to check for both blood and whether she's actually awake. And her face is weirdly.. slimey -- eeew. Recoiling she checks her hand, only to find no signs of blood stuck to the fur. Instead it's clear?

Obviously, stormy is very confused. She's in a completely unfamiliar place, the weather is different from when she collapsed, all her pain is gone, and her face is covered in a weird ooze?

She sits upright to get a better sense of her surroundings to try and figure out where she is and what's going on when she comes fact to face with a creature of pure mythology -- a real dragon. Not one of the normal anthro kinds she's used to. This was a real, true feral dragon!

The dragon before her was roughly the size of a van with wings. Though it's features were distinctively dragon, its fine features were more raptor or avian than reptilian. Its body was covered in fluffy feathers the color of marble with occasional sky-blue accents. Big glassy blue eyes staring down at her with an uncomfortable curiosity. It's tongue lolling slackly out of the side of its beak a line of drool slobbering off of it. It sat there watching her, with the disposition of a well-trained puppy dog rather than a feral beast.

It was at this moment that Stormy realized the slime on her face was almost certainly this dragon's slobber. It must have been licking her face... Chills run down her spine at the thought. Even though this creature seemed harmless, it was still unsettling that a strange animal large enough to eat her whole had its tongue all over her.

"H-hello?" she cautiously speaks to the creature, unsure what else she could say to break the silence.

It responds with an excited bark before bounding over to her with a spring in its stride, giving her more excited licks across her face, much like a dog welcoming its owner home after being away for a while. What logic Stormy can muster screams at her to scream, run, or get away from this potentially dangerous dragon, but her instinct leads her to lower her guard, assuring her this creature is not only friendly, but might even know her... somehow.

"Do you have a name?" - her childlike innocence and confusion still leads her to ask, despite it already only responding to her with barking. And predictably, the dragon only responds with a questioning tilt of its head.

The memory of the book she had been reading earlier returns to her mind. "Well then, I think I'll call you Occul, like occult!" she proclaims while reaching out to give the dragon a pet on the beak. It responds with some more affirmative barking before flinging the young cat onto its back. Before she knew what was going on, it had already begun an ascent.

Form the higher elevation, she's able to get a better view of the scene where she woke up. What she sees is a stone structure. Looks like the ruins of... something? It's too destroyed to tell what may have once been. What she can tell is that there are crumbling stairs, and a stone/crystaline pillar in the middle of a platform that stands about 10 ft tall with crumbling walls and otherwise around it. She can see a faint glow coming from the pillar.

~~ The Mirror ~~


After obsessing over stories set in the middle-ages for a few months, Stormy began to drop hints that she wanted to redecorate her bedroom for her upcoming birthday. Though she fails to recall the exact age now, she remembers clearly that this was before she'd started puberty... 7 or 8 maybe.

Though her upbringing was never impoverished, they were by no means wealthy. "Lower middle class" is probably the most appropriate classification for their financial situation. Enough to afford to get by and occasionally get treated, but something as big as redecorating an entire room was a big ask.

Dawn, wanting to do her best for her firstborn child had a mission. She was going to scour every thrift shop, antique store, furniture outlet, etc. Even if she wasn't going to be able to afford an entire overhaul, she wanted to make sure there was at least something she could give to make her baby happy. Days turned to weeks, and it was becoming increasingly clear that "none of this crap is right for Stormy". On the final weekend before her daughter's (and son's) special day she had a hail-mary attempt at one final pawn shop...

The birthday went on like any other. The same drone of the same song, the same sharing of the cake with her brother (who she still could not stand). Her brother tore into his wrapping paper, ripping out the box for an RC plane, and waiting impatiently for his father to find batteries to power it. Meanwhile stormy delicately peeled off the tape from hers -- one strip at a time, carefully unwrapping her gift without a single tear. She eventually revealed an antique standing-mirror with ornate decorative carvings all along its wooden frame. Though the carvings were beautiful, there was almost an "emptiness" in the woodwork, like something is missing, or that the design is incomplete -- despite having no particular shortcomings anywhere in the work. The mirror was beautiful. Everything about it was deliberate and intricate. It was exactly the style Stormy had imagined while begging her mom to redecorate. Despite the odd feeling that it didn't quite belong, it added to the mysterious allure that Stormy had grown to love in the books she'd been obsessing over. With help from her dad, she got it hauled into her room and placed exactly where she wanted it.

But that's where the fun begins

The fact that the mirror was special really wasn't a mystery. Even from day one, everyone could pick up the strange vibes. They weren't creepy, just out-of-place. Like a single rose in a bouquet of lilies.

Every day since the mirror was added to her room, she started experiencing intense migraines. These weren't simple headaches either. Every time, it would happen the same way: her heart would begin to race, sweat would run down her cheek and into her eyes, her vision would darken and blur until the words on the page became completely illegible, and eventually even her own book would disappear from her field of view. Everything had double-vision, and the pain would continue to intensify until either she passed out, or vomited.

Nobody attributed this to the mirror. Why would they. Sure it was out of place, but this was real life. Mirrors can't make people sick like that. It must be a flu or food poisoning. Maybe all that reading was giving her eyes strain. Her parents took her to a doctor a few times, but the general consensus was to let her rest and come back if it worsens or continues for more than a few days.

One of these migraine episodes began while she was reading in her windowsill, listening to a rainstorm that was gradually turning into a more intense downpour. To this day, she still remembers clearly what she was reading. It was a nonfiction piece explaining imagery of the occult and the meanings behind them. Like every other time previously, the pain crept in, her heart rate rose, the sweat dropped down on to the pages, and so on. At this point she'd grown accustomed to hauling herself into bed as soon as she first noticed the warning signs, but this time was different. Something in the corner of her eye caught her attention as she began to brace herself for another collapse. Despite the double-vision of everything else, the mirror alone stood, crystal clear against everything else in her room.

Against her better judgement, Stormy's curiosity got the best of her. She stumbled across her room, barely able to keep on her feet as everything around her began to spin with increasing intensity. When she finally reaches the mirror, she is stunned speechless at what she sees in her reflection. Even through her pained squints, her eyes were.. glowing?! They shone the most brilliant shade of magenta she had ever seen. Cautiously, she tried to reach out to her reflection, to see whether it really was her or just an optical illusion. Unfortunately, the migraine finally got the best of her. Her consciousness faded as she was losing her footing. She was out cold before before he could even finish falling into the mirror.

~~ Childhood ~~

Stormy is the oldest twin -- Dawn's firstborn. The resemblance is so uncanny that nobody could doubt their relation. Everything from the colored hair patch (yes, it's natural) to a booty-heart of her own. Being a nebelung cat only further seals the deal that she's Dawn's daughter. Her father was in the picture throughout her whole life, other than maybe those first few weeks while Dawn tried to get back in contact with him after figuring out her uncanny resemblance with him. (No, I don't own the father character, and the owner doesn't want me sharing the design, so he will remain a mystery). Though her parents weren't officially together, they were always as involved and loving as any pair of married parents.

Stormy was always a "good egg". She was polite, quiet, and followed the rules. It was clear from a very young age that she was set for excellence. With help from her parents, she had picked up reading at the same time her peers were barely learning the alphabet. She was a stark contrast to her fraternal twin brother, who was always a bit of a slacker -- he never listened, he was loud and obnoxious, and was constantly causing trouble (her brother's first artwork is in progress now, so hopefully one day I'll be able to share him too). At this age, the two of them would constantly clash. Just like any siblings would, especially with such drastically different personalities.

In order to satiate Stormy's insatiable curiosity and voracious appetite for learning, Dawn made the tough decision to pull her out of public school and start her on a path of homeschooling. Though Dawn meant well, wanting to give Stormy a chance to spread her wings and excel at her own pace, she unintentionally stunted Stormy's social development. The only interaction she ever received was from her family -- her loving parents, and her butthead brother. She loved them as one loves family, and doesn't hold any ill-will for her upbringing, but in adulthood she recognizes the shortcomings of the way she was raised.

Throughout her whole childhood, Stormy's best friend was books. She'd fly through her schoolwork & studies so she could get back to her own novels (particularly those way above the suggested reading level for her age). She never wanted to play outside, never wanted to go on outings with her family, and DEVINITELY never wanted to interact with her brother. All she wanted to do was curl up with whichever book she last put down.

Dawn, wanting to be the best mother she could for Stormy made sure to give her all the reading material she could possibly want, and though she would happily flip through the pages of anything she was given, some particular genres captivated her more than others -- mystery, fantasy, and romance.

~~ Prologue~~

Dawn was in her early 20s. Well, she still went by "Dusk" back then. She was the definition of trouble back then. She'd bar hop, drift from town to town. She'd get in fights, she'd lie, steal, break the law at times, and use her body to get what she wanted whenever she wanted. If she rode fast enough, the consequences of her decisions would never catch up with her... until one day they did.

Dusk spent a little too much time letting herself get a little too close to a few boys who caught her interest. By the time she was ready to skip town, the reality of her world came crashing down on her. Not only was she pregnant, but pregnant with twins.

Fast forward nine months, Dawn has taken over as the dominant personality. Dusk will always have a place in her heart, but Dawn understood that being the best mother she could possibly be was most important. Especially when she didn't even know who the father was yet. (Or, rather, fathers... long story for another day)

So, I think it should be no surprise that I enjoy writing lore stories with the artwork I order for my characters (Dawn, Stormy, etc.)

I definitely plan to continue with this

What I'm trying to figure out is what to do about some of the poke-sonas I've been designing (Vivi among others I haven't made artwork of yet -- https://www.furaffinity.net/view/59025951/ )

In the roughly 2 months since first designing Vivi, I've brainstormed a lot about her, the rest of the cast, and plenty of (softcore erotica) stories. I don't necessarily want to spoil anything just yet, but let's just say, I've already written a handful of different "side stories" in the slice-of-life genre about them. The current one I'm at is currently at 24,000 words and still has another 2 acts to finish. (as a frame of reference, that's almost as long as Romeo & Juliet).

I'm trying to figure out the best format of how to get these stories published on here. I had originally planned to post drawings and small "chapters" of 1000ish words at a time (roughly 2.5 pages of a book). However, I'm likely not going to draw nearly as fast as I can write more story.

I guess my question is two parts
1. How "complete" of a post would people want to read? I assume just posting a Shakespeare-length story isn't going to get read very often. I don't know if it makes sense to break up the stories if I'm writing multiple in parallel unless I'm careful with titles, but I want to make sure they're posted in chunks that are long enough to be satisfying for those interested, and short enough to actually get read.
2. Are people okay with them being posted as journals on this page, or would they be better suited as something on   DerpyCatDraws ? I'm thinking a once or twice a week post. Exactly how much I write has been varied from none in a given week to a couple acts (5k-8k words) in a week. I would only post on the schedule if I had something written that I was satisfied in publishing, but would still add to the amount of posts I already put out

Sorry if this is a bit of a ramble or nonsensical. I wanted to get my thoughts down now before I change my mind about publishing these works in the future

I've been using it to post "daily-ish" drawings/wips. My 2024 New Year's resolution was to try to get a bit more serious about teaching myself how to make digital artwork of my own.

One recent example of my work is the ref page for Polaris that I posted here too, since he's one of my characters I plan to get art of sometimes, I wanted his ref to be on my profile. https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57746131/

But lately, I've been making substantial progress with learning the rendering process, and I'm particularly proud of the pieces I've done most recently (namely, a redraw of an old Doodle I made of Stormy back in 2017). https://www.furaffinity.net/view/57942325/

Currently, I try to keep everything but ref sheets on separate profiles, using this one primarily for artwork I've purshased, and the DerpyCatDraws profile for artwork I create myself. Instead, I've been favoriting my finished renders from that profile.

What I'm curious to know is whether people here would prefer me to post a copy of the finished renders here too, since they are finished artwork of my characters, and let the artwork by me sit among those by other artists -- treating this more as a gallery of art about my characters, than art I've purchased

I'm totally content keeping them separate unless there's a noteworthy amount of people interested in seeing the art mixed over here

TLDR: If I make drawings of my own characters (other than ref sheets), do you want to see them in my main gallery on this profile, or should I keep them separate on my art wips profile?

I saw this on a few other profiles and I liked the idea. I want to do something similar. I have a lot of art I've ordered in the past, some finished and some unfinished/in-progress, and some where artist went AWOL. I'd like to keep a sort of list of everything that's either done that I haven't posted yet (as a reminder to myself) or pending (so others can see a rough idea of how long some take. I'll do my best to keep an updated list and maintain what stage things are at (paid, sketch approved, flats approved, done, as well as an order date and date of last upload. I'm hoping there's a way to format it as a table, but if not, we'll find out. For reference, all dates are of the form year-month-day. If I couldn't find the date of the order, I tried to include the date of the last update. "Done" will stay in the journal until I've posted all alts, then I'll try to remember to remove so the list doesn't grow forever. Note that if the last updated is "NONE" that means I haven't gotten any communications/wips after the initial order (and payment in some cases). If the order date is ??? that means I couldn't find the original order, or the listing was deleted

I... Might have a problem... so many that it won't even show all the icons...

Honestly, I'm honored that so many people out there love my kitty as much as I do, especially since I'm not the original artist, just the character owner.

And even more especially because of how bad I am about posting her finished artwork consistently.

I wish there was something I could do to thank you all for showing interest in my girl (apart from posting my backlog in a reasonable amount of time lol)

If anyone has any ideas, I'd be happy to hear them, otherwise I'll just keep doing what I do best... waiting way too long to post from my backlog of finished art :D

Oh my goodness! It genuinely warms my heart to know there’s so many people out there who enjoy my characters and their artwork as much as I do ^w^

I assume if I were an artist, this would be a reason to open a special piece. But alas, I merely purchase the artwork on my profile.

It’s not much, but if anyone has suggestions of artists or YCHs to consider for my girl’s next pinup, I’d be open to ideas~
