Moving saaaaaaaaale~
Posted 11 years agoHey, pals! I'll be moving in a couple of months and am trying to unload a few things that are gathering dust, so if you like cheap books, games and dvds, why not take your pretty little selves over to this spreadsheet and see what I'm offering?
Stuff for sale: https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet.....CQ0xLZ0E#gid=0
A lot of these items have different weights and I won't know exactly how much shipping will be until their packed up, but I can offer an ballpark figure for what to expect.
Shipping (within the US):
DVDs/games/books: $2-$4
Shipping (outside the US):
It probably won't be pretty, but I can get you a quote if you tell me the country the item(s) will be going to.
I can also bundle shipping if you're interested in buying multiple items. Payment via Paypal or Square. If there's anything you're interested in, please send an email to asterionblazing@gmail.com with the item name and we can go from there. Thanks!

Dear readers, your opinion: PoL side stories
Posted 11 years agoI figured I might as well get on while I'm not headachey and quite so tummy-upsetty.
Dear readers, I have some stuff in the works for the main comic and plan to post a longer journal once I'm back up to 100%, but I am working out some side comics revolving around a few of the non-main characters and would like to know if there are any particular characters you'd like for me to expand on?
Planned so far:
"Chapter of Valdez" - What became of "Daddy" Valdez after the Keda VS Nickles conflict.
"Chapter of Hunds" - Hunds village during the time when Hyde's father was still alive, and Hyde, etc., were children.
NOTE: Gaur's origin story is going to be a part of the main comic, so no need to request it. :3

Phew, back!
Posted 12 years agoWell, Christmas happened, and here I am once more. I hope everyone out in FA Land had a pleasant holiday, or at least one not full of drama.
Moving right along, I'll be picking back up where I left off and muscling through my commission queue/answering emails once I've gotten settled. I'm still open for commissions if anyone has been looking to nab one from me, by the by! My info can be found here: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/12262621/
That's that for now. Later, gators!

2013 + Commission stuff
Posted 12 years ago(I apologize if you've already seen this on my dA/Weasyl accounts)
Well, it's been a pretty lackluster year. It sort of started out pretty blah to begin with, transitioning from a game team to marketing at my old job. I'll admit, I wasn't really happy with my position. I didn't hate it, but it was no longer fulfilling, either. After my department got cut and I was laid off in the summer, I just sort of shuffled through my days full of putting in applications and inquiries, and the screenings that mostly lead nowhere. I've never been laid off, nor have had any significant gap in employment in 11 years, so it's really been an adjustment for me.
Things haven't been all doom and gloom, though. I've since begun contracting with another company (albeit part-time) which pays better than Playdom/Disney ever did, and I get to make actual art (versus web ads most of the time). I just finished up another semester of college-type studies, and am only three credits shy of finally being able to get my BFA. I've also been taking the time to do what I really want to do, which is learning to make 2D games. Social media is great and all, but I don't get the same kind of joy (if any) playing mobile games as I would in a few stages of a handheld or console game. And also, we're in an age where it's easy to make and distribute any game you want, so it's really 'just' a matter of me learning, well, everything. XD I'm hoping to turn things around as much as I can while I look for full-time work.
Ok, now comes the part you actually care about:
I am officially OPEN for commissions (excluding conbadges). However, I am cancelling all previous commissions for which I have agreed to and have not already accepted payment.
I know this will be a disappointment to those people, and I apologize for that, but I want to start with a clean slate. I am also going to be more selective about the type of commissions that I accept. I don't like refusing people, but some topics are just 100% unmotivating, even when money is being waved in my face (e.g.: romance of any sort. I like emotive pieces, and there's nothing wrong with romantic themes, but I just find working on them to be very ho-hum). I would rather refuse them outright than agree and leave people hanging on.
Additionally, I HAVE updated my price sheet. I have not changed any prices, but I did add two new offerings! Please check them out below!

Guess what time it is?
Posted 12 years agoFA meme time! Sorry y'all, I was Germany-ing it up (still am) and came late to the party.
1. Why did you join FurAffinity?
Soon after discovering that there were people on the interwebs that liked animal people as much as I did (but not yet realizing that there was a whole fandom devoted to it), I eventually stumbled onto FA after mostly puttering around VCL and Yerf.
2. What does your username have to do with you?
It's in reference to the Cretian minotaur, also my bull character who I rarely draw. I was going to go with "AsterionShining" (because "Asterion" = "ruler of the stars"), but I wanted something a little more aggressive.
3. What is your current avatar of?
Charita Hendley (one of my FBA draft characters) drawn by Pac.
4. How many watchers do you have, and how many do you watch?
I'm watched by 6037, and currently watch 139.
5. Do you have more than one account?
There's my moldy old rftigermode account, my collab account with d.chestnut (rosenthal), and the account I use to post things I've commissioned (applebottomboss).
6. Name 3 of your favorite artists on FA.
Well, 'Favorite' is pretty strong, but I greatly enjoy
kamui,
pac, and
artdecade's work.
7. What artist do you admire because of their personality?
stigmata comes to mind, as he approaches his craft with a certain humbleness that I can't help but appreciate. He makes a super sexy artwork, too, so there's that.
8. Do you comment, fave, or both?
Mostly fave, but when I see a piece that just moves me in some way, I've gotta drop a comment.
9. What do you typically post on FA?
Mostly single-character, full-color pieces.
10.What's your favorite submission in your gallery?
Y'mean the one I dislike the least? :'D http://www.furaffinity.net/view/11564481/
11. What are the things you wish you could draw better?
Architecture/environments, but it's really more wishing that I didn't find them boring to draw so I can get the same level of enjoyment out of them as I do the figure.
12. How many hours a day do you spend on FA?
Maybe about a half hour per day, which is really just me checking messages throughout the day.
13. Are you a fast, slow, or medium typer?
I average 78 words per minute, so fast, I guess?
14. What is the most annoying thing people ask you?
-When is PoL gonna update? (A: When it becomes fun for me to work on again.)
15. What is the most annoying/offending comment you've received?
My comment annoyances are so few and so minor that they don't really warrant listing.
16. What/who inspires you?
I draw a lot of inspiration from stories, whether from a book or a movie or cartoon/anime, or straight out of antiquity. Game art, too. In fact, I would always pour over instruction manuals to look at the art inside before even playing a new game as a kid.
17. Everyone has considered leaving FA once or twice. Have you? Why?
Nope. I'm really very comfortable here. Besides, drama is everywhere on the internet, so even if I ever felt like leaving FA, it's not like the same stuff isn't happening on other sites.

Exp. painting commission slot needs a-fillin'! [CLOSED]

PLEASE READ THE ENTIRE JOURNAL
Hey, party people! Remember my experimental painting journal from a little while ago? WELL, I find myself in need of a new brave soul to fill the third and final slot.
Recap:
I want to depict your character with an item of personal significance to you, their creator. Is there anything you own or have owned of deep personal meaning or sentimental value? What I'm mainly looking for are three that I think will look very nice when displayed together.
The first two paintings have been completed, so I'm mainly looking for something that will gel with an orc and minotaur. I am open to pretty much anything anthro or humanoid.
As far as items, I'd like to stay away from franchise items such as action figures or plush toys of specific characters (TMNT, MLP, etc.) if at all possible.
Price: US$75, payment via Paypal only. (Please consult my commission chart for my full TOS.)
What you get:
-Digitally painted bust of your character (pose, crop up to me)
Example: http://i.imgur.com/z23x51Y.jpg
How it works:
1) If interested, comment in this journal with ref(s) of your character and pics and/or a brief description of your chosen item
(NOTE: The folks who commented in the previous journal don't need to comment again. I still have all your info.).
2) Chosen person emails confirmation, after which I will begin work.
3) Payment is due in full upon approval of sketch.
As always, feel free to comment in this journal if you have any questions, or email me at asterionblazing @ gmail . com. :)
Slot filled! Thanks,

Experimental painting commission results + other comm. stuff
Posted 12 years agoHi, folks!
Thank you to everyone who expressed interest in my experimental commissions! However, a choice has been made!

Congratulations, you brave three! I'll be in contact.
Also, depending on whether I'll need a root canal next week (always fun), I may be reopening for commissions soon. That said, I'm in the process of revising my sheet and am paring down a few of my offerings/am interested in adding some lower-cost items. I am debating having a couple of 'always items' that I can do quickly, such as icons, and quite possibly conbadges.
While I'm working on stuff anyway, I was thinking of pricing the icons around $15-20. Are there any other items that you might like to see in the future?

REMINDER: Experimental painting commissions
Posted 12 years agoHey, baby boos!
Friday is the last day to have your chance to get in on a slot for some experimental painting commission madness by yours truly!
If you have no idea what I'm going on about, you can scope the details here: http://www.furaffinity.net/journal/4872278/ (Do be sure to actually read the thing!) I'll be going through the interested parties on Saturday and will likely make my decision that night. Please follow the directions in the journal I've linked and comment there, if interested. Thank you!
Experimental painting commission, who's in? [CLOSED]
Posted 12 years agoI want to try a thing.
Firstly, some details. I have a small window between semesters for some arty times, and would like to break up the recent FBA deluge in my gallery a bit, so I'll be offering a few slots for painted busts. As it's been a while since I've painted and may be a bit rusty, I'm offering these at a discounted price.
I am interested in displaying these as a triptych, and thought we might have a little fun. I want to depict your character with an item of personal significance to you, their creator. Is there anything you own or have owned of deep personal meaning or sentimental value? I'm pretty open to the types of characters I'll paint (anthro, human/oid, etc.), but what I'm mainly looking for are three that I think will look very nice when displayed together.
As far as items, I'd like to stay away from franchise items such as action figures or plush toys of specific characters (TMNT, MLP, etc.) if at all possible. If you don't feel comfortable commenting, please feel free to send an email instead (asterionblazing AT gmail DOT com).
I'll be offering three slots total.
WHATCHA GET:
-Digitally painted bust of your character (pose, crop up to me), US$75
-3 slots available, one slot per person
HOW IT WORKS:
1) If interested, comment or email with ref(s) of your character and a brief description of your chosen item.
2) I'll email the owners of the three characters I choose.
3) Payment is due in full upon approval of sketch.
EXAMPLES (kind of):
I'm thinking these may end up as a hybrid of my full and rough paintings, but I really just want to see where these will go. In the meantime, here's some stuff so you'll have a general idea of the end product.

I'm going to leave this up until Saturday (7/27), as I need to cram for my final exam this week, but please feel free to comment or email me at asterionblazing AT gmail DOT com with any questions. Thanks!

Thanks!

Need your input: Character design book
Posted 12 years agoHi, folks. I'm seriously considering writing a book on character design. This will not be a how-to-draw book, but rather will focus on way to create characters that you and others can invest in. Things like initial thought process, design choices, mood, nuance, and body language will be covered. Designing characters for others is also a topic I want to address.
That said, are there things some of you out there struggle with when creating characters, or otherwise would be interested in learning about?

Probably won't be too active for a while
Posted 12 years agoIf I'm not around for a month or three, I promise I'm not dead in a gutter someplace. I just need some time to figure out some stuff.
Today I am an adult.
Posted 12 years agoWell, I have been for the last ten years, but today I am, too.
Also, I guess I'm 28 now or something.

My dreams are special
Posted 12 years agoMy mom and I went to visit an outdoor tropical resort in Germany (somehow). We needed to cross the road passing through the resort, but we could see in the distance that a car was speeding toward us. I hung back, because I didn't want any of that, but she attempted to cross and ended up getting hit by the car, only for it to turn into a motorcycle with a man in black riding it. I scrambled to call 911, but realized I was in Germany, and asked the people around me what the German emergency number was (luckily everyone in Germany spoke English in my dream). A rather jerky guy told me not to dial the emergency number, dial 302 ("Ok, sheesh..."), and of course, the operator spoke German, as expected in Germany. I stumbled through my limited German skills and asked if he spoke English, but he understood and asked how he could help me, so I told him the situation and he said they'd do a search (wasn't clear if it was for my mom or the motorcyclist).
Next scene, I'm in the resort jungle or something, and I hear a rifle go off. I turn around, and there's the motorcyclist, except for some reason he's turned into a spiky-haired version of Solid Snake. Then I guess non-German subtitles came on screen, and with a loud gasp, shouted, "That's Solid Asp!" (No, not that one). I ran back toward the resort, and suddenly, WoW messages started appearing in front of me. ([username] received 15 Euros, etc.) People were looting my mom! So I tried to run back before they looted her passport. The end.

Slowly catching up
Posted 12 years agoExams are over (for now), almost caught up on my readings, work-work has returned to not-crazy levels (EL OH EL NOPE). Currently working to get outstanding commissions/conbadges done now that I am slightly less stressed/fatigued. I will then take a long break from all the things and you'll never hear from me again, or at least until my next student loan payment is due. Thank you for your patience.
Please don't inquire about PoL. It will return when it does.
