Posted 7 years agoFor update: So turns out it was my motherboard! I ordered a new motherboard and the shop that installed it received one DOA. So we had to return (still under warranty) and get a new one shipped that arrived yesterday. The shop says as long as the new board has no issues it'll be good to go today! I miss everyone greatly and hope everyone is doing great!
I've been really trying to draw traditional work, but not too thrilled with how my drawings have been coming out. Anyone have any inkwork tutorials or beat practices for traditional?

Posted 7 years agoSo I will not be able to stream this week, computer is in the shop. They gave me a two day estimate, so in a best case they might have it to me by lunch tomorrow, but we'll see. I might try to do some traditional art alternate, but would have to get the details of that hammered out. Just taking pictures with my phone of doodles?

I plan on trying to stream tonight for the full 7pm to 10pm EST, but may not succeed. I got back from my flight early this morning and not sure how I'll handle recovery from the 12 hour time difference. I will at the very least be streaming for one hour!
JAPAN:
Back from Japan as of this morning! It was super hot as there was a heatwave, but we still had alotta fun and didn't let it ruin the trip for us. Did a bunch of cool stuff and went to some pretty cool places. Quick notes of some stuff we did:
- Saihō-ji Temple (kokedera): Temple and moss garden (100+ types of moss)
- Uji: Central of hub of green tea's original import from China, tour of green tea farm/tea shrine
- Omimaiko: Beach day along Lake Biwa
- Mt Maya: Mountain railcar/ropeway for obsevation spot of all the coastal cities at night
- Kōzan-ji Temple: Saw view of Kiyotakigawa river and Chōjū-giga scroll
- Played a bunch of MaiMai (rhythm game me and my one friend are obsessed with) and saw the new pokemon movie
- (Mostly) biked to Saimyoji from Kyoto: Underestimated steepness of hills. Mostly riding, but walked some of the more intense hills (I couldn't keep up with my one friend)

I'll start by posting some old work, but then post new doodles.

Advice for digital painting backgrounds
Posted 8 years agoHeyo! I wanted to see if any artists out there had any advice for creative robust and interesting backgrounds. I really enjoy a painted feel for backgrounds, but haven't been able to really feel good about any I've made. I aim to study backgrounds from a few animated movies I really enjoy (5 Centimeters per Second, Your Name, Howl's Moving Castle, and The Place Promised in Our Early Days), but wanted to see if anyone had any helpful advice!
1. Are there any brushes that you find really useful? I feel that some "splatter" brushes can make trees and bushes a little more reasonable/timely, thoughts?
2. I always struggle by treating backgrounds like standard lineart but it ends up just fighting too much against the subject, best ways to deal with this?
3. Color use, any tips on this would be super helpful!
