FurDU 2019 Sunday photoshoot!
General | Posted 6 years agoHere we go. Sunday's FurDU photoshoot for 2019. The tenth one I've done for FurDU!
https://www.flickr.com/photos/atpaw.....57710262509087
As ever, if you're in the photo in question you're free to reshare 'n other non-commercial applications. Attribution is appreciated of course.
They can be downloadified in their fullest of resolutions using the Flickr interface.
This was the tenth official photoshooty thing I've done for FurDU (every year so far!). Thank you for tolerating my weird experiments and gambits, even if they didn't always work out as great as one might have hoped.
Big thank yous to volunteers and assistants. 10's a nice round number though, and increasingly RL work is making it a challenge to devote big chunks of time before and after the con to planning and post-processing - so I think I'll take a break from the big formal photoshoots and let other capable and creative Australian photographers have a go. <3 Cheers!

Hey Mister, how'd you make that Futurecat?
General | Posted 6 years agoA few critters asked if I could write up a long-form journal describing how I made my 'futurecat' mask.
It's a bit weird to be linking to a journal inside a journal, but here we are all the same.
If you do read it, I hope it's of use or at least of interest to you. Lots of pictures in there at least. :)

FurDU 2016 photoshoots
General | Posted 9 years agoHey all,
For the Friday day and Saturday day photoshoots, expect them to be uploaded in about a week's time - I'll be interstate on a week long work trip in a few hours time, and hence won't be able to process/upload them until I'm back home again. i.e. after June 5.
No rest for the wicked, cheetahs never prosper, and so on.
See you then!

Artistic Expectations
General | Posted 12 years agoPhilosophical waffling, after I heard a triumphant-sounding musical score. A question for creative critters.
And that's the
- Musicians
- 2D Artists
- Fursuit makers
- 3D artists
- Story writers
- Photographers
- Sculpters
- And so on...
In creative works, how much are "we" allowed to mess with expectation? How much "should" we mess with expectation?
For example, everyone knows how a triumphant film score sounds. And we 'expect' a triumphant score to sound along those lines.
We expect that a formal photoshoot be played fairly straight and restrained. We expect a comedy story to make us laugh and to not be a dreary drama.
But should we conform to expectation? And if not, then how much should we mess with expectation? :)

FurDU Photoshoot is up
General | Posted 12 years agoQuick post before I head to bed. Fursuit photoshoot is up:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/atpaw/.....7633378810269/
Again, thanks for your patience with the shoot. Next year I/we will probably split the shoot over two days, or come up with some other scheme to accomodate the rapidly growing number of suiters.
Quick question: Shooting outdoors in a rapidly changing light was ambitious and risky, and maybe some of the shots didn't turn out as great as they could have. (Sorry, black-coloured fursuits after the sun set - An extra speedlite as a rim light could have helped you guys out!)
So my question to you:
-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Would you prefer I continue this trend of ambitious-but-risky branching out of trying weird shoots each year?
Or would you prefer safe, conservative backdrops and lighting - which will look a little plain, but won't cock up?

Who's going to FurDU?
General | Posted 12 years agoSo hey,
Who's going to FurDU? :D
Who's going to FurDU? :D
What are your "furry" projects?
General | Posted 13 years agoI think one of the coolest things about the furry fandom is that, arguably moreso than most fandoms, WE are the content creators. Unlike, say, Anime or Sci-Fi where predominantly it's a worship of popular-culture items which are commercially produced and distributed, by and large Furry is a fandom of self-generated material, be it illustrations, animations, 3D renderings, stories, costumes or whatever.
I also think that ones' creations are an opportunity to leave a mark on the world - To make or do, rather than simply consume. To express ourselves and our thoughts. In the words of Dr. Steel, "Explode with inspiration! Vomit imagination!"
So, tell us (if it's not secret) - What're your projects? What cool furry stuff do you wanna create? :)
Failing that, what aspects of furry you're passionate about? :)

General | Posted 13 years agoI am a cat.
That is all.
Life's been pretty crazy-busy with a lot of travel involved (mostly for work, but also Confuzzled). It's been really hard to keep track of FA watches and uploads, letalone remember where I'm up to with hobbies and projects at home. x.x
Got some fursuit ideas I'd like to explore, but of course those ideas won't bear any fruit for many months 'cause fursuits take forever!

Cof-nuzzled 2012
General | Posted 13 years agoI'm flying back home to Brisbane on Friday June 1 (GMT time), so my holiday's nearly at an end.
Overall I've had a blast in the UK. Saw a few more parts of London that I hadn't seen before, visited bits of Brum and Hinckley, attended Confuzzled and went to Alton Towers themepark.
I've gotta thank the UK furs for their hospitality in both showing me a good time and giving me places to stay. In particular Yarwick, who's kindly put up with the vagueries and flexibilities of my itinerary. Muchly appreciated!
Brumcon before CF was tremendous fun, even if my head did struggle to wrap itself around the notion that friends I've met in the UK, the EU, Australia and the US were there at a busy house party in the middle of Birmingham. "What are you doing here?! You're a fur I only ever see at FC!", says my internal voice. And so on. Fun party. :) Some very cool new faces and some favourite old faces too. :)
The birthday hamper from Shay and Akuro was delicious. :3 Thanks guys!
CF itself was really fun. Caught up with old friends, made some new ones (especially with Utlah pointing all the bikerfurs), and put real faces to virtual names. :) Drank too much, socialised too much, had a blast. :) I only suited up twice, partly due to Atpaw needing some more maintenance, me not being reaaaaaaaally happy with how Atpaw looks these days, and having too much fun being social out of suit.
I had the most fun simply catching up with friends in the bars, chatting for hours about things furry and things not so furry.
The CF staff put on a pretty well-polished event. The attention to detail of the theming and conbook and so on really impressed me (Australian cons fall short in this regard). The hotel had plenty of good socialising spaces too. Though even the rooms *with* aircon didn't seem any cooler than the prevailing super-warm temperatures elsewhere both indoors and out.
What else...
Travelodge Con at Ashbourne, which included fun events such as exploring a paddock by the river, throwing handfuls of self-adhesive weeds at one anothers' clothing, and having quite-excellent pizza at a Doner-Kebab shop in Ashbourne.
What a strange way to spend my birthday. :)
And Alton Towers, which is host to quite a few really fun rollercoasters and some interesting rides we don't have in Australia. It still does my head in that the castle isn't some crappy heavy-plywood facade between the public areas and Backstage, but is between 1300 and 200 years old in its present form. :P
But yeah, it's been a tremendous two weeks. Wish I could have stayed longer, but I have to get back to work!

Was great to see old and new critters alike! :3
I just got home from the convention; photos from the photoshoot will be up on http://www.flickr.com/atpaw/sets/ in the next week assuming I'm not snowed under with work IRL.
I'll post a a handful of photos here on FA when all the photos are ready, with links to the set.

Where are you staying?
The Watermark!
Who will you be with?
Sharing a room with
Foxen
What will you be doing most of the time?
Socialising 'n a bit of photography!
Do you do trades?
I is not arteest.
What suits will you have?
The Atcat!
What is your gender?
Outie.
How old are you?
30, yeehaw. :P
Can I touch you?
o.O I'm not Buddha! I don't grant wishes, nor do I grant sexy cheetah power like that weird birthday card you can find on Amazon, alas. But sure, if I know you. ;) The fursuit cheetah is more approachable in that regard.
Can I hug or snuggle with you?
If I know you. :) The fursuit cheetah is more approachable in that regard.
Can I talk to you?
Fo' sho'.
Can I buy you lots of drinks?
If you like! I prefer scotch while Atpaw (the fursuit) prefers beer - because of the long neck on the bottle.
Will you be drawing/selling anything?
No, but I'll be doing the fursuit photoshoot again!
How tall are you?
6'4, 193cm, yeehaw.
How will I be able to spot you in the crowd?
Giant cheetah with silly '@paw' badge. Also fursuit.
Are you nice?
Cheetahs are nicest of all the animals. Unless you're a gazelle.
Are you cliquey?
Only on Wednesdays. Fortunately, the con falls on a weekend! ;)
How long are you going?
Mid-Friday til late Sunday!
Do you like parties?
Yus.
If I see you, how should I get your attention?
Walk up and say hello! I've moved interstate about 100 times now and have met a gajillion furs, so I apologise upfront if I have trouble remembering your face/name. Remind me! :D

MiDfur the 13th
General | Posted 14 years agoRawr!
Bullet-point posting because I cannot brain right now.
I'll download and process the photos I took at the dances shortly; I hope to have them up in the next few days. They'll be posted to my Flickr account and I'll cross-post a leader link to my FA right here.
Overall I think this year's MiDfur was much better than last year's. :) It was great to meet a few new folks from both Australia and overseas, and catch up with old friends too. I didn't get to do everything I hoped to, but such is the nature of furry conventions. :)
