Stuff and things
Posted 3 years agoJust thought about how I basically don't touch this thing.
I'm still active, mostly I do personal art, just little bits here and there. It tends to take me a while to finish a piece, not because I'm not on the canvas, but more I just don't want to upload everything (or it doesn't get to an uploadable state).
I'm not out to build a huge following; I just do what I like to do, in my little corner. I appreciate everyone who stops by.
On that note, anyone want to do a trade? I'd love to swap some arts.

Posted 10 years agoHey all!
After much delay, I'm opening up for commissions again! Prices are still as listed in my price sheet.
A couple of caveats, though:
I'm working full-time, which means I'll be doing commissions in my spare time during evenings/weekends/days off. This will put me working at a slower pace relative to before; it just means I will likely take on only what I can handle, and no onerously large projects.
Check out my sketch sale! http://www.furaffinity.net/view/17703087/

Posted 10 years agoJust wanted to feel you guys out (lol). I've got enough availability that I can work on commissions part-time again! If there's any interest out there, I'll open up again!
Update on my availability
Posted 10 years agoOh, so that's what that 'journal' button does.
I didn't pay a whole lot of attention to what my journal said over the last few months and just kinda left it up.
Since I've started working full time, I haven't come into a whole lot of spare time. That means taking on full commissions with all the back-and-forth entailed is basically out of my reach; even on weekends, my time is fairly compressed by having to do chores or shopping and other annoying grown-up things. So, for the time being, I'm basically closed for commissions.
HOWEVER.
I do still like to draw for fun, and with sketch sales I'm able to turn something around if I like it, but I don't want it to be one of my characters. So, sketch sales will still continue as I produce them, but no soaked mags, or full commissions of any sort. At least, not for a while.
Stay tuned! I'll have some sketches to sell soon.

Opening up again!
Posted 10 years agoWe're doing it live.
Now that things seem to have quieted down (and I'm going to have some spare time over evenings, weekends and the holidays), I'm opening up for commissions again.
I've been missing the tablet time, the art-with-friends time, and obviously I've never felt like I'm too flush. So! I'm opening up and taking commissions again.
Note that I'm still sorta... figuring out my routine. This will likely start out with single-slot sketch sales, and likely not pieces with detailed backgrounds. However, I have been able to pick up the tablet recently and bang out a sketch or two.
I'll keep pushing the pen around as much as I can. Watch for my sketch slots as they come up, people! :)

(Partially) shutting down!
Posted 11 years agoHi all!
It's been a great couple of months scribbling out commissions, you've all been awesome. And although I want to press on doing more arts for moneys, I sadly have to scale back or shut down.
There's a big change in my availability for art (new job!) which has made this necessary. For the time being, I'll be closing off commissions for the most part - either until I settle into my new schedule, or until my availability opens up again.
HOWEVER.
I may be able to continue selling pre-pose sketches. I'll wait to see what my time's like after I've settled into my new routine. Pre-poses are relatively quick compared to regular commissions, meaning I'd still (possibly) be able to turn them around in a timely way, assuming there's still some interest!
I want to say thanks to everyone who commissioned me over the past few weeks! I'm looking forward to opening up again, hopefully soon!

Have a look! And also!

Still here.
Posted 11 years agoA long-overdue explanation for my continued inactivity.
More of the same, I guess - before the summer I'd posted up saying that I'm shelving commission arts for the time being because of fulltime work and its demands on my time and energy.
And so it's continued, though I've been lucky enough to get a solid gig in my field.
It's also taken me away from home for a good bit of the season, and although I'm on a stable schedule now, there's still not much opportunity for me to sit down and art. I've been taking distance classes in my evenings in order to upgrade skills/buff resume/look good to people who might hire me within the organization once my work term is up.
All that being on my plate, come the end of the day all I want to do is load up battlephin 4 and get some shooty pewpew funtimes in before I have to crash for the night. I'm also looking at the possibility of returning to school to get a master's degree, because we live in a highly competitive world, and it may be what I need to do to get a proper, long-lasting job.
Commissions remain closed for the moment - that last piece I put up took me since about september to finish. I'll keep doodling as time and will permit. I have to shout a hearty thank-you to everyone who's been around to help me through the more stressful bits - you all know who you are. I've still got a few drawings in me yet, and I promise everyone that there's more to come from this crazy cetacean. I also have that story project I'd like to finish sometime, and to add partial illustrations to as well. One bit at a time.
P'zout.

Closing up for the now :(
Posted 12 years agoI'm more strained than I thought I would be with the acquisition of this new job of mine. The last few weeks have been manageable, but going forward I will be working 40+ hours in a week.
Between work and my other commitments, my art time has been more compressed than I've anticipated. It's taken me 3x longer to finish commissions, and picking up the tablet has been a forced and unpleasant activity the last few times. I'm still generally happy with my work, but the stress of having looming commissions is keeping me from enjoying or doing other things.
So, for the time being, the queue's closed. It'll probably open again later in the summer when things have quieted down. I will be working through the queue that I have now, and ideally some personal art after that.
Thanks everyone!

New job! New Avi update.
Posted 12 years agoWraaagh.
As of tomorrow, my days of living a zombie/vampire type work schedule are over. I am starting a new job on monday, one which is full-time, much closer to where I live, and much closer to my educational background.
The positives: it's outdoorsy, it happens in regular hours and I will likely have the chance to make connections that will lead to more career-related opportunities for me.
The negatives: I will make less per hour (though more per paycheck and much less $$ spent on gas) and I gotta make new work friends.
This will likely not have much effect on my ability to work on commission arts! My old job required that I work extreme early hours, as early as 4-5 AM, and was an extremely physical job. This tended to exhaust me to the point where I couldn't do any work at all on commissions, or very little. Ideally, now I'll be able to do better work with a clearer head every day.
That's it! Soaked mags are still on the go. Anybody want one? :D?

Furnal Equinox 2013: Registered!
Posted 12 years agoGod, they sure give you the runaround though, don't they? Had to create an account on their website first, and then wait a few hours for the confirmation e-mail to actually get sent (to my spam folder, naturally).
I would've been easier if they just had a 'take my money' button without the need to register. Having to register before I can register seems a bit... redundant?
Might do digital badges if anyone's interested. I'll be in the dealers' den with

Taking a break for the holidays!
Posted 12 years agoHey all,
Just a heads up to everyone who is in the queue. After I finalize the commission I'm currently working on, I'll be taking a little break from art-for-money arts. Not only is it hard to find time right now, but I also have a backlog of christmas gift arts that I need to knuckle down and finish in time for the holiday. The commission queue I have now will remain as it is, and people can still line up if they'd like.
There are no other pending arts to finish right now - all this means is I won't be starting any new commission work until then. Like everyone, I'd like to take some time off to spend with friends and family, relax, and eat things. Arts will resume after christmas, or after new years - whenever there's time again. Soon! Very soon.

Huzzah! New tablet is here.
Posted 13 years agoAnd it's good!
So good, in fact, that it's actually hard to get used to right now >_>
See, I can adjust the sensitivity, finally! A tablet that's built for windows 7. It's all sleek and new and the pen design is totally built to NOT have a stupid metal bracket made in cheapistan that will snap off at the first hint of wear. The pen also seems to have an auto-shutoff feature, so after the tip doesn't get any pressure for a while, it turns off - saving on battery.
Anyway! Now that I have the ability to adjust sensitivity, I have to completely rethink the way I use my brushes. Normally, I'd use a brush that was 5-10x the intented size of the stroke I wanted, just so I could get a manageable amount of colour on the tablet. The old tip was also warped like mad and I'd lost the replacement nibs; keeping these ones safe and sound.
The working area itself is smaller (12x9 on my old one, versus 12x7.25" on this one), but the report rate for the pen is much higher. The tablet itself also seems to have better working resolution too. All around, it's better - and I'm gonna probably take a little bit to get used to its better-ness.
That being said! Commissions are all still well underway. It's been a good day! Now, I'm gonna go get back to work.

Posted 13 years agoUPDATE: Crisis averted! Tablet repaired.
Posted 13 years agoFor now, at least.
Thanks to a little help and a lot of really big, cumbersome power tools (table saw, sledgehammer, power drill, dremel, soldering iron and lathe) I've managed to temporarily repair my tablet pen.
It works! As well as it did before (which is to say, not great) so it will see that I'm able to continue working up to when the new tablet arrives. Send the doctors and engineers home, 'phin can do his art thing again.
...anyone else down for a Soaked cover? :D?

R.I.P. Tablet :( :( Commissioners please read!
Posted 13 years agoARGH BRAAAAGH WAAAH FFFFFFF
Super sadface. :(
Last night, just after wrapping up a work session, my tablet pen fell out of my lap and hit the floor. Like it's done a few times, right?
Only this time, the little metal bracket on the inside of the pen - which forms the holster and the circuit to draw power from the battery - snapped clean off. Caused by metal fatigue over four years of swapping out batteries, since in an effort to save on battery life (I guess I was trying really hard to save that 12$/year on batteries >.>)
So, needless to say, this is a bit of a setback for my current commission queue. I have ordered a new tablet just now, though! Unfortunately it wasn't available at any store within a reasonable driving distance, so I had to order it online:
http://www.tigerdirect.ca/applicati.....&CatId=140
I'm doing fine for money, so be assured this isn't a "omg please send monies" journal. The really sour part of this whole thing is the wait time for delivery: anticipated to arrive on nov. 26th, which is basically two weeks from right now. Just need to ask you guys for a little extra time; currently, I'm working on Soaked covers for
calafin,
bunnyhearts and
dragonatic. Of course, I can still work in traditional media, so I will probably do a bit of that while I'm waiting for this new tablet to come in.
The old tablet has been on its way out for a while. It's over 4 years old, the pressure nib is uneven and the manufacturer never made drivers for windows 7. I was planning on buying a new tablet around christmas anyway - so I ended up buying it a month early.
I'll post up again when I've got the new one in my hands, and I'll be checking the shipping status every day in the hopes it arrives sooner.
Thanks for your patience, everyone!
