Just a reminder that I will be streaming in approximately 2 hours and 15 minutes. If you like the idea of watching someone colour and shade size-related artwork, #SizeThings is the place to be.

I have an Artstation profile now
Posted 6 years agoArtstation: AlienOvan
I created an Artstation profile and started uploading my stuff there, it's a nice site with cool art on it. While I'm not going to drop FA in the bin, I'm trying to pursue a more professional route with my projects from now on. I'm still doing size-based stuff with Giants in it. I've been into Macro more than I am furry stuff, while I do anthro characters on occasion, that's not the core premise of my content. Also since I don't really draw porn either, I think it's time to acknowledge that I'm targeting the wrong demographic here. Axelflux will remain as my backup profile for relevant works and for commenting/favouriting/watching folks on the platform.
My Artstation can still give notifications when I upload stuff, let you like and create collections of art. So if you're at all interested, Follow and Like AlienOvan and also get Blog (Journal) updates too. No rush.
tl;dr: Joined Artstation, Follow AlienOvan for up to date stuff, AxelFlux isn't dead but it's secondary from now on.

Godzilla (PS4) Livestream on Saturday
Posted 6 years agoAt a resounding (Zero) votes, (don't worry I conferred with other communities), the game being streamed is going to be Godzilla for the PS4. If you enjoy classic Kaiju flicks in the form of a videogame and a growing Godzilla, Subscribe to the AlienOvan channel to be informed of the time/date of the stream (when verification is complete) and then the stream goes live!
The Livestream will be held on this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5YyM-yPkYo

Knack, or Godzilla?
Posted 6 years agoBeen delving into game streaming, particularly old/obscure size-based titles. I have both Knack 1 and 2 and the PS4 port of Godzilla. King of the Monsters vs the incredible growing tech-demo.
Leave a comment 'voting' which one I should stream first.

Upgraded to Photoshop CS5!
Posted 6 years agoAcquisition method omitted, I've managed to go from CS4 to CS5 and it's a straight upgrade from my last installation. Fact is, my CS4 required I set my system clock back to 2008 due to licensing expiration, a brief but frequent annoyance every time I wanted to boot it up to do some artwork. However considering I found some interest in mixer brushes recently, I discovered I was literally one version behind being able to use it. Mixer brushes don't exist in CS4 but do in CS5.
So now I don't have to mess with the system clock any more, and things seems to be just as good as it was before, but now I have new options. I've been working on a picture involving a giant guard in a fantasy setting, so expect something of the sort soon. I would have gone for CS6 but I can't acquire a perfect version of it yet. For those unaware, CS6 is the last perpetual-licensed version of Photoshop before you have to subscribe to Adobe's CreativeCloud system. And safe to say I'm not interest in paying monthly for something I could have permanently and without live-service checks.
Question for Watchers
Q: What kind of giants do you like in FANTASY settings? What giant fantasy character do you think should get more artwork?

Giant Pokémon continued: Snorlax, Electabuzz, Golurk
Posted 6 years agoOne is in the works. The other two; very likely. Also Dragonite, but that couldn't fit in the title.
These ones I'll have to make from scratch since I don't have any old sketches to use.

Looks like I'm drawing Giant Pokémon
Posted 6 years agoFor a while at least, had a set of sketches I made ages ago but did nothing with. The first one you saw was of the Hitmonlee known as K.P. Expect a Hariyama, Primeape and maybe a Snorlax, Abra and another Macross; maybe.
When I've cleared out my backlog I may want to do something with them. Growth competitions are always fun, we'll see.

Making Comics with a Donation-Incentive System.
Posted 6 years agoPrologue
I won't beat around the bush, I need to make a living and it's never been a better time to independent comicbook creator than current year. But this is the internet, not everybody is able or even willing to buy comics from a relatively unknown artist, and I agree. So I've come up with a solution that works for the free and paid crowd.
I'm going to start pitching pilot and comic shorts for free. Then follow the money.
Like with Tragard Basketball, I'm going to start making comic shorts, typically the same size/page-count as most FA comics, to show off a character or scenario that could have their own series or one-shots; a preview of what is to come from a full release. I would still create and post these for free online regardless of what happens, it's not about becoming another Premium/Pay-Site artist, it's about giving folks the power to create incentives to content they like.
If folks really do like a Character, Series or One-shot and want to see more of that content; I'll accept donations to incentivise creation priority. That means I'm more likely to start and continue a series or produce the one-shot fully if folks are willing to put money down on it. When a project receives a release, the pot for that project is emptied, giving the other choices a chance to be picked next. In the event that nothing gets donations (very likely at this point in time), I'll just pick whatever I want to do, however that could be making something new (I'm not restricted to a list).
So I'm being fair and honest: I'm still going to be making stuff and posting it online for people to enjoy, but money talks. Donate towards characters, scenarios or series you like and I will likely prioritise it over whatever I was going to do next. But it's not a hard and fast rule, I get to decide what gets done, you guys get to influence the decision.
So the summary?
• Instead of charging for comics the traditional way, I'll pitch a few ideas as short comics for free and people can donate towards series or one-shot they want to see more of. There's always a chance a particular series or one-shot would be created regardless, but donating gives an incentive to do it 'first' among other things. Donations are done freely, without specific obligations (you can't legally MAKE me do X first or at all, but I'll consider it). The benefits to donating include special-thanks credits, behind the scenes/premium stuff on Ko-fi and also influencing the project schedule. Folks who don't pay anything will still get to see the final result, but without the extra benefits or ability to influence the project schedule.
• Donations may come with benefits but are, as a rule, completely voluntary and comes with no obligations. (You don't donate to a Charity then micro-manage how they use the money, same principle applies here). Potential rewards will be specific to each project and outlined appropriately. You can however with a comment state the Character/Scenario/Series/Title you'd want to see more of/made. Requests are collected into a list and sorted into group.
• The suggested price point for a donation is £3, which as of September 2019 is $3.66. This is the same price as one issue of a standard comicbook. This should mean that the amount of money raised for a particular issue or one-shot will simulate the amount of copies that it would have 'sold' under a more traditional delivery medium. Pounds sterling (£) is my primary currency so any conversions will be based upon that unit.
• Donations are accepted at 'ko-fi.com/ketch'. It's where I will post bonus behind-the-scenes and premium stuff, it will be on Ko-fi, which does offer single and monthly-recurring donation options. And posts that only previous donators or monthly-donators can see.
Comment below with any questions, concerns or ideas you may have. If something is not clear in the post above, I can clarify and make amendments when possible

Nominate characters for future streams!
Posted 8 years agoI've been doing Macro/Micro fanart lately and I've been enjoying it a lot, I wouldn't mind doing more but it wouldn't hurt to get some input on what characters other people like to see giant-sized or other size-based scenarios. So what I'm asking from you is: "What 'Big guys' would you like to see drawn by me in future streams?". I do have a preference for big/bara characters like Gantu, though like Kass, sometimes it can just be a character who would look good big or giant-sized!
If you need some direction, here's a short list of canon characters that I'm keen and willing to draw in the future, you can upvote any listed there and/or add your own in the comments below:
• Tohru (Jackie Chan Adventures)
• Ganondorf, Kass, Sidon (Legend of Zelda Series)
• Leomon, Growlmon (Digimon Series)
• Machoke, Hitmonlee, Hariyama (Pokémon Series)
• Thanos (Marvel Comics)
• Bowser (Super Mario Series)
• Guru Ant (Parappa the Rapper 2)
• Slug/Namekians-in-general, Oozaru/Great-Apes (Dragonball series)
• Traximus (TMNT)
Additionally, I have my own characters including some OCs including:
• Kurrage Koopa (Avatar guy, Giant Sledge Bro with a healthy disdain for all kinds of things)
• Yai-Guy (Giant Shyguy trained in the Ninja arts, he is silent as he is deadly)
• Kaush the Great Ape (Saiyan stuck in his full-sized Oozaru Great-Ape form)
• Ketch, and the Titans (A number of extremely large mythical beings from a fantasy setting)
and others...
So yeah, just comment below and tell me what you want to see. Also if any of you can tell me what days and times most folks are willing to watch art streams I can try to make special arrangements to stream those days instead.

Tuesday 26th Follow-up Stream - Gantu the Gargantu-an
Posted 8 years agoIf you liked the Gantu the Gargantu-an picture I posted recently, you can watch me do a follow-up update on the picture to ink in the lineart and colourise the rest. The stream will start in several hours at the usual time (10pm GMT), check the link for a countdown specifying EXACTLY when it'll be starting. I do follow-up streams whenever I like a picture so much that it would be a shame to leave it half finished. And let's face it, Gantu looks decent but Hawaii looks like the Time-Eater from Sonic Generations had it's way with it, not very welcoming at all. If you're a fan, we can have a chat about him and other things.
Folks have commented how they enjoyed me making technical comments about what I do while drawing and the tricks I use to achieve certain effects. I write my thoughts into chat as a habit but it also helps me keep checking for new posts and engage with viewers. It's a win-win really.

Sunday Stream - 24th December
Posted 8 years agoFriday Art Stream - Friday 22nd
Posted 8 years ago"Size stuff only, No OCs, Final Destination"
At 10pm, Friday 22nd December I will host a Picarto stream to just draw/sketch/paint size-based art and illustrations, whatever seems most interesting or funny to portray. Size stuff refers to anything macro/micro (size difference, growth/shrinking), No OCs means I won't be drawing people's original characters/fursonas, canons are acceptable; Final destination... that's just an old meme, don't you worry about it. My most recent submission involving a giant version of Kass from Zelda:BotW was a result of a Sunday stream I did the week before. Folks can come by to make suggestions and if anything inspires me, I get to work on it. Music plays in the background on the stream, mostly 'High-quality rips' I liked from Youtube. Enjoy!
Countdown to the Event, including link. It's a countdown timer so it's going to hit zero at the right time, regardless of your timezone. Streams usually last 90-120 minutes. I commonly chat with folks in Picarto's chat, so if I am not actively working on the piece at a particular moment, don't be afraid to speak up!

Raffle winners announced (It's Discord)
Posted 8 years agoThe winners for the raffle for September has been announced and visible on Patreon here: https://www.patreon.com/posts/raffl.....nners-14151734
It was a user from Discord named Galaxin, a free entrant earning a two hour commission. The two Patron winners were Mango and Greez Fhang, Each earning four hour commissions each. But while I work on these commissions, don't forget you can try re-entering for the next draw at a later date when I post about it. Patrons are automatically entered into their own draw with a much higher chance of being selected.
Thank you all who entered, just because you didn't get it this time doesn't mean you can't get it next time!

FREE Art commission RAFFLE (Ends September 1st)
Posted 8 years agoIt's been a while, but I'm finally getting back into the scene. To start things off I would like to announce that I am running a Free art commission raffle on a new identify known as Titans of Thrae. You can read the details on it on this Patreon post. Although this is hosted on Patreon, you do not need to pledge money or have an account to enter the raffle as there is a non-supporter category you can apply by commenting on the post itself or this journal. (Not PMs however, that is reserved only for raffle winners). There are benefits to pledging including paid commission discounts and additional chances to win in the supporter raffle draw (which statistically has better odds vs. the non-supporter population.
To repeat, if you wish to enter the raffle as a non-supporter, all you need to do is comment below saying you want to enter and the rest is simple. If you win, I'll contact you in PMs to discuss the commission in more detail. The raffle entrance period ends September 1st, in which the entrants are drawn by random.org's list randomiser (with fixed ID for verification). Both Non-supporter and Supporter draws are unique to each other, therefore each will have it's own winners.
As of this posting, there are 2 Non-supporter entrants and 1 Supporter entrant. Will you be lucky enough to get something you want drawn?

Welp...!
Posted 12 years agoIntroductionHey folks, AxelFlux here making a journal since *checks* it doesn't say! Good times.
Where have I been all this time? Just away really, I don't often create artwork unless I'm feeling really inspired, and even then it's just for myself or my friends, I have been drawing still but never felt the need to shout it out to the wider internet. I'm not a hoarder honest!
Incidentally I've also been doing a weekly Pathfinder game, think of Dungeons & Dragons 3.5 only with a more more well-rounded ruleset so it's not about having a different system for each combat manuever or having several skills do to one specific thing. It's just better okay? As for what game I'm running, that's simple, it's a GIANTS Campaign, basically where the party is made up of fantasy giants and they do what they want.

The essence of a good comment and O.A.R.(S).
Posted 13 years agoIt's pretty obvious that nowadays people don't have the time to leave meaningful comments about the artwork they see on sites like FA and similar services, a bit too much +Fav and run. Even artists who claim they don't mind getting no comments on their work want to at least know what's on their watcher's minds when they click +fav, anyone who truly doesn't care at all would be at most a Lurker, we are on the internet after all!
The Essence of a good commenter is Validating the Artist's artwork, specifically point out and discuss what you can see, what's going on in a picture, something to let the artist know you actually stopped one damn second to look at something they might have spent hours to achieve. If anything this proves that you not only liked their artwork but noticed it too.
OAR(S) is an acronym I thought up that describes the most basic structure of a validating-comment for a piece of artwork. Opinion, Aspect, Reason, (Suggestion), Suggestion in parenthesis only applys when making a critique. You don't have to write paragraphs to show you've noticed and explained your enjoyment or concerns for a piece, though an interested artist would love you took the time. So using OAR(S) can allow you a meaningful comment in as short as a sentence. For example;
OAR
"I really loved how you drew that giant looming above him the perspective and the casting shadow really made it look intimidating!"
In just one sentence you've let the artist know that you liked it, told them what you liked about it and why you liked it or it was likable. One-liners usually only constitute just O, slightly more descriptive comments offer OA but using the whole OAR just wraps the whole thing up nicely. If you're making a critique you can use Suggestion at the end of it.
OARS
"Something looks off with that arm over there it looks like it's bending the wrong way, maybe if you drew a line this way instead of that way it will look like the forearm is coming towards us instead of the other way."
More often than not you'll be writing O and A the other way around in a real critique but here you can see that you've managed to explain that something is wrong, what went wrong, how it's wrong and then offered a suggestion on how they can improve it or avoid the mistake next time. It's not too hard if you think about it for a minute.
If anything at all, make your comment meaningful! If you can't think of any critique or an analysis, just mention things you see in the page. The characters, the environment, the colours, what seems to be happening in the still-frame. I do not believe any of you are so dense you can't even point out the species of an anthro, or whether they're in a city or countryside. So why not speak up and talk about the picture for a bit? Add a bit of your personal experience and let the artist know what it made you think about.
People on art sites barely get any recognition at all aside from a few favorites, why not validate their talent with your insight and make it memorable. I know if you want people looking at your own work you need to start giving a damn about other people.
If you don't really care about anybody other than yourself and your words hollow, at least know that when you make a comment on someone else's work that makes them happy, you're giving them a free link to your gallery. But chances are if this is the only reason you'd start commenting now, you're the kind of person I very much avoid. :s
Sorry for the length, but if you read this all, good for you! If you actually want to do some of the things mentioned in the journal, even better!

Public stream on sunday 15th
Posted 13 years agoI'm thinking about doing regular public streams since it appears to be a popular thing these days. I figure it's not enough to just ask people if they can or want to attend a stream but actually try to set a date and time for when it'll be up and see who comes.
So I have decided that later on Sunday the 15th of April I'm going to do a stream to allow folks watch me complete KingDead's Secret Code picture and give folks a chance to see it before completion. I'll be able to answer questions, do silly doodles for people and all that fun stuff.
I'll being streaming at around 10pm GMT, which translates to around 2-5pm if you're from the USA. If I start any later than that it would infringe on the time to actually draw and chat.
The time-and-date calculator for this event can be found |here|. If it turns out well, I might consider making it a weekly endeavor.
Be sure to remember to get involved and participate in livestreams, the only difference between drawing alone and broadcasting live is you! Digital artists can save a lot more bandwidth and CPU cycles by having Procaster OFF. Ways you can participate in a livestream is simply chatting; discussing things or asking questions; it will show the artist that you're actually watching and paying attention and not surfing youtube and FA 90% of the time.

I'm alive, just busy.
Posted 13 years agoDon't worry folks, I haven't died somewhere never to log into my account again (at least for now). I've just been so...busy! One thing I regret it never having enough time to spend with everyone I care about.
Also, I'm aware of something for KingDead yet unfinished. Will have to load it back up and finish that off in the near future.
Also I should apologise to Rexxwolfe, for starting something I couldn't maintain nor finish. I'll make sure to be more cautious about projects I cannot live up to.
And to Jay, thanks for sending me a note, I haven't been around as much as I should.
I'm in good health (as far as I know) and in a good mood. So no need to assume this is some kind of morose, angsty journal or anything.

My first meme journal: Comment Meme
Posted 14 years agoIt had to happen eventually, but considering this meme isn't particularly dickish like a chainmail or a "You must send this to x others or get this meme x times or you will be unloved/disliked/alone.blashablahblahbluah. I decided to honour Rexxwolfe by passing this journal meme for others to enjoy. Here are the rules:
Comment in this journal, saying anything to focus my attention to, and I will reply to that comment by answering the following questions about what I think of you.
1. Tell you something I'll learn about you by looking at your FA page for 13 seconds.
2. Tell you which color you remind me of. I might also tell you what scent you remind me of if i cannot pick a colour.
3. Tell you my first memory of you.
4. Tell you what Pokemon you remind me of.
5. Ask you something I've always wondered about you, and your answer has to be as vague as possible to keep the suspense.
6. Tell you my favorite thing about you.
7. Give you a weird nickname
8. Tell you what's on my shirt right now.
9. Challenge you to post this on your journal
That's about it,
