What's next for the roo.
General | Posted 12 years agoMan 2013 was really a mixed bag a nut that would normally result in a summary too long for anyone to care to read (and I don't blame them).
First off, for Christmas, my main wish is that time would stand still for everyone. Still enough to just to enjoy the moment away from the world racing around you because to me Christmas is something to be enjoyed and not something just to survive. I live next to major cities so even just trying to go out to get something to eat gets me stuck in traffic with the procrastinating holiday shoppers....... that's surviving Christmas, not enjoying it.
At the very least, God-believer or not use it as an excuse to cut and kick your feet up. Shove the bad memories aside and dig out whats been good because in a world where good news is no news, that might be what keeps you from going over the deep end.
That said in the coming year of 2014, I just wan't get some hint of things to pursue and just go for it, success or not. I still have it heavy in my heart to use my passion for fursuits to put on some kind of show for the public voluntarily but living where I do now, I'll need to find out what non-profs there are where I can donate my time. I know I'm really going to push in the Spring for that. I still have some gigs in Olympia but its further away now.
In art I'm pushing to learn the basics in animation and rigging which Lime-Flavored Dragon has already been helping me with and so far its been making good sense. I just need to keep studying and try more if it. I think I'm getting faster modeling full bodies now enough that I'd like to make full-body badges for people. I wan't to deliver a few for FC but I need to check to see who's coming- maybe surprise them.
I'd like to promote BlowupNShowup, my suit design consulting service at FC but I'm not sure it is going to work out this soon. While there may be some demand in fursuit design, I have to be honest and come out in the open with this:
There is quiet storm happening in the inflatables industry both in toys and suits. I'm not going to get into names or sharp specifics but I'll tell you my personal conflict. Whenever I do an inflatable suit consultation I often get asked, "To whom can I go to get this suit made?". At this moment in time, I cannot safely answer that question. Why? Too many times, people have an inflatable suit of their fursona done and next thing I see 3 months later is their fursona getting raped by knockoffs across various sites and foreign manufactures. It's not so much the suit but rather that person's identity being violated like that. I don't want to be the guy that makes a blind recommendation then finding out later their being cloned by the foreign companies whom obviously don't give a shit about intellectual properties.
I feel I need to wait out this crap storm to see how it will settle before any safe harbor becomes available. I sure hope it does.... maybe for the time being I should create generic designs so it wouldn't matter too much. Any interest out there for generic inflatable suit designs? Let me know your thoughts.
Also at FC, I would like mentor some more hopeful modelers. I mean heck, Sculptris is free so why not? I don't show it but it pains me quite a bit when I hear students going 20k to 80k in debt, working and studying their ass off, and still being thrown to the side in the job market and going into depression caused by all the overhype and broken promises of higher education. I can't fix their situation but I can give what I have in knowledge even if its to just keep your creative mind busy. You're not worthless as long you're breathing and a willing heart. This is why I teach.
Last thing on my mind this upcoming year is about getting a new fursuit. I actually have 6 fursuits but 4 of them known ip characters I use for public paid and non-profit gigs leaving just the two bunnies, Heyoo and Quello which just means I'm a sucker for rabbit suits. I may just purchase one but as of late I've been having visions just before I wake up- visions of certain details I've been missing for a long time and slowly its all coming together. It may be time to clear out all the boxes, open the floorspace, and get to work.
I think I've covered enough of my happenings and thoughts. Merry Christmas or a Festivus for the Rest-O-Yas. For many of you, I'll be seeing you in San Jose soon enough.

General | Posted 12 years agoIts like presents under the tree.... only the tree spins and only 3 of you will walk away with a present. Boy, that was a terrible analogy but on the bright side, I'm sure I'm not the only gift giver on Christmas.

The Roo Goes Round - RF Wrap-Up
General | Posted 12 years agoI gotta open just by saying, "Damnit Time, slow the @#$^% down". Ill be honest, I have a special relation with the month of September. Its usually not a good relationship anyf everything either intensive or life-changing happens in September coupled up with the rush to have everything order by Rainfurrest at the end of every September. This September has been the most intensive next to 2010 when a water pipe had bursted in the upstairs bathroom which causes water to pour out the cupboards downstairs, it was like being in Titanic. So what happened this September? Well on the upside, a new decent job and on the downside, Moving. Tyrnn graduated Digipen so it didn't make sense to keep living in the middle of one of the tech capitals of the world and I did plan this out ahead when I realized half of it was useless since the availability of new places can change on a daily basis but even after we've secured the new place. Wontoons supposive employer decided screw us out of a weekend in which we had planned to get all big things out of the way- long story all its own but for the most part, it was chaos.
I had really really really really gunned it at the start even going back after working 12 hours shifts to chip away at what was left behind and what needed cleaning still. We were in decent shape to attend Ranfurrest at the time but I had no idea how much I overexerted myself the few days before. I spent most of the time just searching for folks I knew and making surprise gift badges for them each night. Seriously, some of the people I make badges for, I don't know too well but by golly I keep running into them each con I go to. For what people I just stand next to in a registration or fursuit photo line often becomes an involuntary tradition but I dig it. It's a side of randomness and chaos that I enjoy and in turn I like to surprise them.
I didn't go to quite as many fursuit related panels as I used to and rather taking up more art-related things such as the art jam. I actually take more delight in watching first or second-time fursuiters having an absolute blast in the first night out- I know the feeling. I did however get to help out in Sunday Morning's Fursuit Performance Panel in my White Bunny Heyyoo/Quello and stuck around for the fursuit meet and greet. I actually had the most fun on Sunday finally getting to meet
shindenwolf and just setting down with
flinters and
brooklynx for dinner then going back to art jam with some famliar faces until 9pm. However throughout most of the con, one of the elevator doors were broken causing most non-fursuiters to go up 3 flights of stairs to get the main convention center. With my legs and body so exerted and stressed from the move combined with constant stairs I could feel something was wrong with my left leg/hip... felt like it was coming out of joint and was getting worse. At end of Sunday going back to the old house to work on it. I saw how much still needed to be done and I knew I was in trouble when I had to crawl upstairs. I did what I could to vaccume and do any cleaning that required electricity since it was getting cut off the next day.
It was midnight getting home with some stuff from the old place and then going down the stairs.... *crick*. I just lost it. When it comes to pain, im not a complainer at all- I just suck it up and run on will power alone but by golly that also means when I actually do cry in pain, you better believe I'm not okay. Arcturax administered some Tylenol to help with some of the plain but I still had to go back and get things done at the old place since it was our last day to so. Thankfully
wontoonroo was able to help me go back up there and finish off some of the fine details. While moving some stuff around in the trunk I found a bottle of booze someone gave to me at the last Rainfurrest. Usually booz + pain meds isn't a good idea in most situation but I took enough just to enhance its effect. After 10 minutes of struggle, I managed to get my left leg popped back into place. Its still sore as hell but I was in good enough shape to get the cleaning done. Now as of this writing. Its only 3.5 hours left of this hellish month and i pray nothing else happens and I'm not talking just about "to me". This very last year while I was leaving the Hilton Parking Garage on Sunday, my phone buzzed with the news
pandaguy passed away.... so please, please, please! No one die in the next few hours..... or years for that matter.
Im not a fan of Green Day but we do have one thing in common: Wake me up when September ends.

Roo gone APAC and Rainfurrest
General | Posted 12 years agoHi boys and girls. Quiet roo has been quiet but there are some major changes around the corner and the one big local con which I make a point not to miss.
#1 We're moving. We're moving a bit further North into Everett to help get our expenses down and hopefully allow us to pay down our individual debts and get ahead financially so expect the middle of a September to be a little bit of a blackout while we get utilities transfered over.
#2 RainFurrest- I'll be there. No doubt about it. I'll be suiting, mentoring, delivering gift badges, and looking for those interested
blowupnshowup design consulting. Wanna find me? Im 5'6" and built like a linebacker and i'll have my classic Axelroo badge.
Good Times ahead.

HomeCon Squeaky Request #2 is OPEN!
General | Posted 12 years agoHey all you folks stuck at home and not at AC. HomeCon is still rolling along here at TigerDile.com and someone already floated away with a nice shiny request. Spot is now open for applicants. Slam you comment down right here with your idea and you might get lucky. People I haven't done before are encouraged to apply.
Save My Eyes! (Commissions)
General | Posted 12 years agoWell technically my eyes are saved.... for now. In short, I've developed Retinopathy. It basically means the tiny vessels in my eyes are bleeding inhibiting circulation and causing my eyes to spawn more inferior vessels which can impair my vision (fancy way to say that I'll go blind). At the time I was treated with laser, I was employed and had a very pricey insurance. I thought I was well covered... turns out 2 months later, I wasn't. I'm appealing a lot of it but there no way I'm gonna come out of this without a balance of a few thousand dollars.
I need to make extra money and start chipping away at this or it may drown me when our household moves out at the end of September. So I'm opening up to commissions for basic character models with texturing and a gradient background for $25. Fur and Rubbery Shine effects at no extra charge.
Here are some examples:

https://www.furaffinity.net/view/9492312/

In addition, I can also do Busted Badges with a bust of your character and lettering for the low introductory price of $15.

Lastly when the project is done, you can get a copy of your character model and the textures to go with it. If you're interested, please send me a note or inquire using my email sootyroo AT gmail DOT com.
I need to make extra money and start chipping away at this or it may drown me when our household moves out at the end of September. So I'm opening up to commissions for basic character models with texturing and a gradient background for $25. Fur and Rubbery Shine effects at no extra charge.
Here are some examples:

Home Con, Life, and BlowupNShowup
General | Posted 12 years agoHi Everyone. No particular occasion for this journal other than the fact that I should say something now and then. Anyone who know me knows I don't post much of anything unless I find it important or useful.
First off, tigerdile.com is hosting another Home con this weekend the 18th and 19th of May. Its like a Dealers Den done entirely online and through streaming. So whether you're inside or outside online, swing by the Home Con dealers den and bribe some artists. I have a costume gig this weekend but should be able to hop in later in the evening on these two days. Check out
flinters' fancy poster here:

As for me. I'm between jobs and all I can say is that the honeymoon with Microsoft is over. It's a great campus and all and a chillax environment but that's only in appearance. It is a proverbial blood bath of silently swinging blades going into each other's backs on a minute by minute basis and that's just mentioning the in-fighting between the direct employees. Vendors like I was are just used for swords, shields, and fodder to fend off blame. The fighting is so bad , they spend more time competing with each other than competing with their actual competition and thus not innovating much of anything. I got a good prospect working in a new IT Department in the Health Industry and I sure hope I get it as both of the interviews went very- maybe, too well.
Lastly, I need to touch up on
blowupnshowup as it may require some clarification to its function. Some the subject matter this group diverges into is swimming in controversy so now is a good time to get this out:
BnS is specifically a "Design Consulting Group" BUT BnS is NOT a manufacturer of anything what-so-ever.
BnS DOES design Fursuits, Infalatable/Latex Suits, and Characters Concepts
BnS DOES help others and clients design the fore-mentioned.
BnS DOES NOT physically create, construct, or manufacture the suit or end-product.
So in short, we design but we don't manufacture or construct at the physical creation level. Rather, we work at the concept level. The general idea for BnS to to be a resource where people can request a design consultation. We then sit down with the client, go over their idea for a fursuit or inflatable suit, go over any possible or proposed design alterations, and then create a 3D model of the concept. The end result is an MPEG video file of the 3D Suit Concept which can be turned using the time slider of your preferred media player to show the suit all the way around. This can then be presented by the client to their suit creator or manufacturer of choice to hopefully produce a better result for the end project as the suit constructor will have a full 3D reference.
I'm aiming to represent BnS at Further Confusion 2014 where I'll be looking for people with a suit idea they would like to have made or build themselves. I'll sit down with them and with this very laptop I'm typing with, go over it with them in 3D. If all goes well, they'll walk away with an MPEG video on their device or thumb drive they can use later for themselves or to give to the suit creator when they're ready. That it- pure and relatively simple.
With that said, I hope to see you soon at Home Con. If you'd like to request a design consultation. Head on over to
blowupnshowup and send a note or shout. Tschuss!!

Axel's Passive Progressive - Santa Claus V Frankenstein
General | Posted 13 years agoHey Kids. The Wheel of Watchers is still underway. I just got FC and a New Job underway to so its gonna take a lil time to sort my priorities. One of my resolutions this year is to modestly share more about about myself. Comparatively, I don't talk much- heck, I don't have a Facebook and only recently got a Google+ for better or for worse. I really only started talking when I went from fursuiter to artist (still a fursuiter BTW. Im just bingeing on art because I'm new to it. I started 3D Modelling January of 2012). Anyway, I don't know a person alive who doesn't like music in one form or another. I like to think my taste is off the mainstream (and proud of it) and frankly I like most all forms of music even some country as long as the lyrics and melody are good. As of late though, I've been craving Metal and Rock in both hard and progressive varieties. I was late to the party on this new song from the Prog World Orchestra packed with later year holiday cheer (hey that rhymes!).

And if you're looking for some semi sarcastic insight on today's mainstream and good music recommendations off the beaten pat,. find 30 minutes to sit down or do chores around the house and have a listen to Monty Colvins Rockcast at montysrockcast.com. He's been going strong for 106 episodes and I've found some pretty wonderful music because of his rockcast. Heck, its always a good to idea to get advice from someone who was in the music industry. I'd recommend starting with Episode 105

Help a roo get to FC 2013 - $15 Badges
General | Posted 13 years agoWell I no longer need to find a room for FC 2013 (and thanks to
chaosreign and
kijanilion for helping us find one). Now a new challenge is facing me before the new year. I had to pay a backlog of debt just today (half of it not mine but that's another story). I'm not broke but I am very much in the danger zone so its time to put these paws to work.
$15 badges done up in 3d, colored, fur and translucent (balloon/toy) effects at no additional cost. Delivery of course, available to FC and general mail too (should be pretty inexpensive for such a light thing).
Badges are printed 6" x 6" card stock, cut out, and laminated.
Examples:

The Holidays Aren't Quite Over So.... WHEEL OF WATCHERS!!
General | Posted 13 years agoLIVE!! From the West Coast, USA via Seattle, Washington its...
WHEEL - OF - WATCHERS!!
That's right folks. The holidays aren't quite over yet as we still have New Years to go and during these major holidays, I take a possibly risky adventure outside of my comfort zone. Most of you know I like to model of up stuff which interests me which are largely inflatables and the likes. However, not all of you 196 watchers are inflatables or fans but that's okay. On the Wheel of Watchers, these rules take a vacation and if you're watching, you already have a 1/193 chance of being modeled up in brilliant 3D. 3 spins, three "do ups" (my term for "sketches") and the fun part: You won't know exactly who won till the do-up is done- hey, that rhymes.
First spin- GOoooooo!
tick-tick-tick..... Wwwwhhhhiiiiiiiirrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrticticticticticticticticticticticticticaticaticaticaticatickatickatickaticka- tick.... tick........... tick................... tick
We have our first watcher and your clue is: "Whaddaya saying? I _AM_ half the bird you are!". Tune in later to find out who won.

Blow Up N' Show Up - Free Design Consulting
General | Posted 13 years agoI'll be honest. Some of you may ask why I do a lot of this without a dime to my name. Well honestly, I do get something out of all these renders for friends and even random watchers. I get experience but where do I intend to go with this? To be frank, my whole journey into the fandom 14 years ago started with fursuits. I became fascinated by some of the live action children's shows on the Disney Channel and PBS back in the 80's and 90's and I could never shake it. If anything was hard though, it was having so many ideas and no real outlet for them up till now. So many character ideas so many things I would want to see brought to life in the real world through a plush, a toy, or a suit. I'm sure many of you have those kinds of ideas too.
Well I want help myself and others. I want to become a design consultant for suits and toys both plush and inflatables. Are you planning to have a custom fursuit made? I would love to render out the details in a rotatable model for reference to the next person you'll be commissioning if not, yourself. Going to have a toy or an inflatable suit made but can't past just using words to describe how it looks? I wanna help.
So. I am opening my doors to those who can use some help for their project. Blow Up N' Show Up is here and in process of coming online at blowupnshowup.com but for now, note me if you need any references made or character designs to flesh out or just wanna talk about character design in general. If I like the idea, I'll be happy to render it up so you can use it to have it made when that time comes. Don't fret about money, I'm still doing this for experience so its free. I do most things along the lines of a mid toon style (see my gallery) however realism is not what I'm going for (though I have great appreciation for artists who can do that kind of style). Otherwise, if you're interested note me your pitch. I'd love to see some of the awesome suit and toy ideas floating around.

FC Room Hunt x2
General | Posted 13 years agoYep I'm going to FC errrm, _WE_ are going to FC. Yeah, now that this dragon I live with is out of school, he's coming too and while the ride to and from is sure fire, we um..... we need a room. I don't care if I sleep on the floor (im quite used to it actually) but we have the money and just need a place to sleep. Heck I'll do up a cool 3D modelled badge for you or update it if you already have one. Alternatively, if you know of some open space and help us find a room, my art offer still stands. Any information you can contribute will help.
